chris107: Evening chaps
chris107: Rough day Simon?
7:17pm  2016-9-28 Eliana Has entered the room
Smon: lots of work stress yup
Smon: Hi Eli
*Eliana sneaks in and pickpockets small change and tokens... *
Eliana: (Hi!)
chris107: Eli!
chris107: Long time no see.
*Kjato Ragfoot tries to apprehends Eliana but falls asleep.*
Eliana: Hi Chris...
Kjato Ragfoot: Hallo Eliana
Smon: My new computer arrived which is good, although I had to stay in late for it.
Eliana: (lol)
Eliana: Hi KJ
Smon: It's big and scary - 17" screen, hard to move around.
Eliana: I'm around but fairly busy ... plus very little action in DF Chat... Only one most Evil remains... which is "I"
Smon: My chromebook just stopped working.
chris107: Simon, Kjato and I were chatting and have had an idea. Not sure how it fits with you but here it is....
Smon: ok
Kjato Ragfoot: Hmm. Eliana, I have not seen you online for ages. We must have switched to completely incompatible schedules.
chris107: Hakeem is approaching 17th (Epuic level), Thuruar knocking at the door of 15th.
Smon: >>Kjato Ragfoot: Hello boy. We are Hakeem, Shieldbiter and Thuruar. Nice to meet you. Kjato Ragfoot: We are looking for the Tigerclaws, are you by chance one? Smon: He nods, wide-eyed. "Aye. I am Tal, of the Tigerclaw, My father was Koltan the Sword Knight, who was slain by Varek the accursed. I welcome you."<<
Eliana: Late evening rarely during day... and for short time.. since nothing happends
chris107: Hakeem needs to visit the elves to study under Aenor, this will enable him to hopefully reforge the Sword of Bondorr.
Eliana: (Please do Play!)
Smon: We shall play a bit
Kjato Ragfoot: (Ah, your late evenings are my extremely early mornings - no wonder we do not meet online)
chris107: at a suitable point would it be possible to break Hakeem away to do this, taking several games off? This will also give Thur time to catch up XP wise and give us both an equal start at Epic level. I'm happy to play a lower level retainer during that time to allow Thur to flourish.
chris107: (Also wasn't Koltan present at Hakeem's Sword Knight ceremony?)
Smon: Yes
Smon: He was there when Hakeem was knighted.
chris107: Anyway it was just an idea we thought we would float with you
chris107: I thought I recognised the name
chris107: "Tal, I knew your father if only briefly. He was a mighty Sword Knight. He will be avenged."
Smon: You wouldn't necessarily have to take real time off, but yes I'm fine with you playing a different PC. Only issue is that Hakeem has tended to drive the campaign so it would depend I think on Thuruar having stuff he wanted to do. He could do a quest for the temple of Athena maybe or with the amazons.
Smon: There's some stuff in "Thieves of Fortress Badabaskor" would work for that but it's a big adventure.
chris107: Kjato?
Kjato Ragfoot: I agree with Simon - Hakeem is the motive behind the campaigns main arc right now. If we wanted to give Thuruar a chance to be in the spotlight (what I would enjoy for a time), we would need a subplot.
chris107: Don't want to throw the campaign out of kilter but we both thought it would be cool to start epic level play together.
Kjato Ragfoot: I greatly like the idea of a Thuruar subplot, but would need to think about something he wants to achieve that could be made into one.
Smon: Alternatively if you are concerned about being different levels I'd be ok with another time jump and just boosting up the other PCs' level to Hakeem's level. I think Thuruar certainly contributes effectively as is but I can see the point re being same level.
chris107: I'm happy with either solution. Would be pretty cool for Thur to take the spot light for a while though.
chris107: I'm happy with either solution. Would be pretty cool for Thur to take the spot light for a while though.
chris107: I'm happy with either solution. Would be pretty cool for Thur to take the spot light for a while though.
chris107: I'm happy with either solution. Would be pretty cool for Thur to take the spot light for a while though.
Kjato Ragfoot: Maybe some quest that weakens the Black Sun's ideological support and placing greater trust in Athena by restoring some relic.

7:32pm  2016-9-28 Smon Has entered the room
chris107: loud and clear this end Simon
Kjato Ragfoot: While I would not mind Thuruar being in the spotlight for a while, I actually like the support role in this campaign.
Smon: I think Thuruar makes a good Merlin to Hakeem's Arthur.
chris107: Hehe
chris107: Well I'm certainly very happy with the game. It was just something Kjato and I were discussing.
Smon: BTW those orcs you fought last week had the same stats as the one that nearly killed Hakeem in his first session
chris107: I'm sure we will both be very happy to take your lead Simon.
Kjato Ragfoot: Let's hope I do not end as the Samuel to his David. ^^
Smon: What happened to Samuel?
Smon: I can't see Hakeem nicking a lieutenant's wife.
chris107: eek
chris107: We have come a long way.
chris107: Shall we try lay Varek to rest, rescue the Tiger Claw and send Hakeem to the Elves with the sword and armour of Bondorr then? Or at least die trying
Smon: >>Maybe some quest that weakens the Black Sun's ideological support and placing greater trust in Athena by restoring some relic.<< I like the idea - any ideas re relic?
chris107: Then decide which direction to take things?
Kjato Ragfoot: Hmm. True. That would have been more of a risk with our thief.
Smon: The Athena-Ares rivalry might be exploitable to aid you vs the Warbringer.
chris107: That would be cool
chris107: The Warbringer gives me the willies.
Smon: He is a demigod.
chris107: double eek!
chris107: Get your thinking cap on Kjato!
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. Yes. That is another good idea, and it would actually tie in extremely good with our questline.
chris107: We need all the help we can get
Smon: They're called Empyreans in 5e, basically Biblical Nephilim + 1e Titans.
chris107: And I'm worried about the Death Knight!
Kjato Ragfoot: Hmm. We need to learn his weakness and we need to neutralize his shield.
Smon: Well Varek < Borritt < Kainos
chris107: quick pee. brb
Kjato Ragfoot: Who is Kainos? I do not recall that name.
Smon: The Warbringer, son of Ares-Bane
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah. I did not know he has a real name.
Kjato Ragfoot: We need a demi-god ourselves... Where is Rej and why doesn't he seduce Hera already?
Smon:
chris107: Hakeem would like to take Kainos' place as a Demi-God, but as Bondorr's Champion.
chris107: suits him better than a worldly king.
Kjato Ragfoot: Eh ... Aren't you born a demi-god?
Kjato Ragfoot: When a god and a mortal like each other very much and so on?
chris107: Hakeem isn't very bright.
chris107: He believes in equal opportunities
Smon: Bondorr was mortal born (legend says) and ascended to divinity.
chris107: And a BIG SWORD
chris107: But that's for the future
Kjato Ragfoot: And I thought you believed in Bondorr.
chris107: There you go
Smon: They say he liberated the Altanians & Ghinorans & Dragonborn from the Orichalan Dragon Lords.
Kjato Ragfoot: And, in the end, we learn that Hakeem was Bondorrs avatar the whole time and Hassan is a demi-god.
chris107: So where do we go from here?
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah. Yes. We found that Orichalan cave near the icefireworm.
chris107: Hakeem is happy to liberate the world but thinks he needs to reforge the sword and armour of his beloved Bondorr to bring this about.
Smon: >>"Tal, I knew your father if only briefly. He was a mighty Sword Knight. He will be avenged."<<
chris107: Hakeem shakes the boys hand warmly
Smon: The youth Tal smiles proudly, straightening his shoulders. He shakes Hakeem's hand.
Smon: "My-my father spoke of meeting you, Chief Hakeem. At the last Clan Moot. He spoke highly of you too."
Smon: Tal looks dubiously at the great wyvern, now slurping up water from the stream. Shieldbiter yawns, scratching his armpit scales.
chris107: "And you Tal, do you revear Lord Bondorr?"
Smon: Tal nods fiercely. "Of course! Hail Bondorr!"
Kjato Ragfoot: (You can pet the wyvern, if you like to. It only bites enemies)
Smon: "I will take you to our chief. It is not far... But there are not many of us left."
chris107: "I hope that I will one day stand for you as a sword knight at the clan moot Tal."
Smon: He regards the wyvern. It looks back, rather hungriy. "Er... no thanks."
chris107: "Now let us lay this Deathwight to rest and save your people!"
Smon: Tal's eyes widen at the thought of Hakeem standing for him as Sword Knight.
Smon: "Th-this way..."
Smon: Tal gestures for you to follow him on foot.
chris107: (If the lad does well I think Hakeem has found a home for the wolf bladde)
Smon: You head through the hills on foot, the wyvern padding along on its two clawed feet.
Smon: /roll d6
chris107: hakeem touches his silver trinket. "Bondorr help me to lay Varek's soul to rest."
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
Smon: After a couple miles you top a rise and enter a small sheltered valley, low cliffs with several caves, from two of which come the smoke of cooking fires.
Smon: Altanian scouts watch you from the clifftop as Tal leads you to the nearest cave, a hide pushed back to let in the warm breeze and afternoon light.
Smon: Inside a dozen or so men, women & children of ragged and half-starved countenance.
Smon: A grizzled and battered war chief, who Hakeem recognises as Kalgol, sits atop a bone throne, hands resting on orc skulls, while an ancient Wise Woman, the famous Mama Kala, reads portents in the fire.
Smon: The wyvern stays outside.
Smon: Kalgol rises as you enter. "Chief Hakeem! Wise Thuruar! Welcome! Women, bring food and drink for our guests!"
Smon: Mama Kala spits purple dust into the fire, it blazes up eerily, casting multicoloured shadows on the cave wall.
chris107: "Thank you Tal. Remember my words. Stay loyal to Bondorr and we shall meet again in glory."
chris107: Hakeem adresses them. "This boy has served you well. I am Hakeem, the Slayer. I am here to destroy Varek."
chris107:
Smon: The flickering light seems to create images of characters battling, killing and dying - here a skull-warrior, there an enormous 20' tall figure wielding spear & shield...
Kjato Ragfoot: Thuruar waves them, still looking a bit haled by the fight with the icefireworms.
Smon: ooc need to break soon to get Bill to bed.
chris107: no probs, Is he well?
Smon: Kalgol nods: "Well done, Tal."
Smon: Bill's well, just asked him to get online & say hello
8:05pm  2016-9-28 DESTROYERBILL Has entered the room
chris107: Hey DESTROYERBILL! How are you?
DESTROYERBILL: hello cris and kjato
DESTROYERBILL: im good

chris107: Have fun
chris107: In an epic level quest to defeat a demigod I think we will need them.
Kjato Ragfoot: Definitely.
chris107: Badaboskar sounds like fun too
chris107: While H learns how to smithy Bondorr's stuff.
Kjato Ragfoot: But I am getting extremely tired. Good night everyone!
chris107: G'night Kjato

6:52pm  2016-9-21 Smon Has entered the room
6:54pm  2016-9-21 Kjato Ragfoot Has entered the room
6:54pm  2016-9-21 chris107 Has entered the room
chris107: Evening chaps
Kjato Ragfoot: Good evening!
Smon: Hi
chris107: So tonight we hunt Varek and save the Tiger Claw Clan?
Smon: Just had to put rubbish out
chris107: or explore the cave?.....
Smon: Or both!
chris107: The cave with Dragonstuff on it now I've sent away the sword of Bondorr!
Smon:
Kjato Ragfoot: We should kill Tigerclaw before he kills the last of the Tigerclaws.
chris107: Hakeem the Halfwit!
Smon: GM: >>Smon: As you descend the air becomes warmer. After about 80' the passage is split by a fissure about 10' wide, easy to jump with the boots. chris107: I think it best to wait here for Thuruar. Smon: Beyond about 40' it appears to open up into a cavern, and a faint blue glow emanates from the cave. Smon: GM: Yeah you are going west or west-south-west. Kjato Ragfoot: Waiting in the warmth is probably a wise move. Smon: The blue glow is clearly not natural, it reeks of sorcery. chris107: H winds his way back and will wait within the tunnel for his friend Smon: Resting until daylight? chris107: unless the ice demon brings his chum. chris107: (I get the feeling this is a significant find) Smon: Hakeem backtracks away from the eldritch light, then settles down to wait... OK will stop there for now.<<
chris107: oops pencil needed 1 min
chris107: back
chris107: So we wrap up in our warmest cloaks as far from the wind as we can until morning?
chris107: Until we can find a way for Thur to get up safely or Hakeem to climb down?
Kjato Ragfoot: Exactly.
chris107: Kjato Ragfoot: We should kill Tigerclaw before he kills the last of the Tigerclaws.
chris107: agreed with above by the way.
Kjato Ragfoot: Dungeons usually do not run away. Tigerclaws on the other hand, might.
chris107: Maybe fate has brought us to this cave. maybe within is a way to help the Tigerclaw?
Smon: GM: OK Thuruar burrows into the snow drift with Shieldbiter & the wyvern. The great beast provides enough warmth it's not too horrible.
chris107: Okay. Then in the morning H will climb down and we press on
chris107: (If he survives the night)
Smon: Hakeem rests in the tunnel. back away from the eldritch blue glow. His sleep is disturbed with strange dreams - ancient battles, warriors in jet & gold wielding lances that spit fire... a sky full of dragons...
chris107: KEWL
chris107: (What colour dragons?)
Smon: He awakes with the sense of having relived many past lives - fighting and dying, victorious or defeated, but always the sword...
Smon: Mostly black dragons
chris107: YES!
Kjato Ragfoot: The Eternal Hakeem?
Smon:
Smon: I did just reshelve my Moorcock collection.
chris107: (OOC - If I give up 17th level perk, assuming I make it. And serve under the Elvish Smith-Wizard could I take forging weapon as a perk?)
chris107: hehe
Smon: You could learn forging in downtime, wouldn't necessarily have to give up a class ability.
chris107: okay, sorry to bring it up in game
chris107: Hakeem stretches and scratches to greet the new day
Smon: Thuruar's sleep is danker but more peaceful.
Smon: /roll d6
chris107: then appraises the climb down to his friends
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 6,
Smon: LOL
Smon: Always the way...
chris107: oops
Smon: Hakeem exits the tunnel, stretches. The storm has died down overnight, the sky above almost clear.
Smon: You appear to be in a deep valley or rift, the floor still cast in shadow.
Smon: /roll d20+1
Smon rolls 1d20+1 and gets: 13, (+1) = 14
Smon: Suddenly Hakeem sees the snow about 100' off to Thuruar & co's right ripple - something BIG is moving towards them under the snow!
chris107: "THURUAR! LOOK!"
chris107: He points wildly
Smon: They're about 300' from Hakeem, who is up about 150' cliff.
Smon: The cliff ascends hundreds of feet above into the heavens.
Smon: A second similar cliff rises on the other side of the valley, maybe 1000' off.
chris107: What is a) falling damage or b) climbing speed
Smon: Thuruar hears the yell, looks over and sees the rippling snow, now 60' off.
Smon: Hakeem could aim for deep snow piled against the base of the cliff - fresh from the storm (hopefully) should greatly reduce fall damage...
Kjato Ragfoot: I will warn Shieldbiter and his wyvern, so that they prepare for ascent.
Smon: Descending at 40'/round will take 4 DC 20 Athletics checks to get down, 4 rounds.
Kjato Ragfoot: And prepare for battle by casting Stoneskin.
chris107: It would be a glorious entrance or a very sad exit.
chris107: (As an Altanian Barbarian I have advantage on Athletics checks?)
Smon: no
Smon: Would be DC 13 Acrobatics to dive into a snow drift.
chris107: Okay Hakeem will pray to Bondorr and lead for deep snow to aid his friends!
chris107: leap
chris107: "BBBBOOOONNNNDDDDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRR!" SPLAT
Smon: GM: Thuruar casts Stoneskin. Shieldbiter is still snoring, the wyvern sluggiishly raises its head. Hakeem dives off the cliff...
Smon: Are you Raging to reduce damage etc?
chris107: Yeah why not!
chris107: All or nothing for Hakeem.
chris107 rolls 1d20+10 and gets: 2, (+10) = 12
Smon: roll DEX+Prof (I'm assuming your shield is slung, otherwise disad)
chris107: FUCK
Smon: Hakeem hits thin snow over rock...
chris107: should only have been +6 then
Smon: /roll 15d6
Smon rolls 15d6 and gets: 6, 6, 4, 5, 4, 3, 2, 3, 1, 3, 3, 3, 2, 5, 6, = 56
Smon: 56 dmg, angry so only 28
Kjato Ragfoot: The rock breaks from Hakeem's thick head.
Smon: Also prone.
chris107: 169/197HP
chris107: Thanks Kjato! I risked all to help!
Smon: The ripple is now only 20' from Thuruar. The wyvern nudges Shieldbiter awake.
chris107: "OOUUCCHH!"
chris107: "BUGGER THAT REALLY HURT!"
Smon: Hakeem can stand up and start moving towards them (60') but still 140' or so away.
chris107: Now he's really cross
chris107: His persistent rage burning he will head for what ever threatens his chums
Smon: Thuruar has time to cast another spell (etc)
Smon: Thuruar any action? Or go to init.
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. Can I put a blade bareer in front of me, within the snow?
Kjato Ragfoot: So that whatever dives through the snow will most likely run into it?
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. No. Wait. I can only have one concentration spell active at once.
Smon: Yeah, looks legit.
Smon: ok
Kjato Ragfoot: All right. Thuruar will just prepare for whatever rushes through the snow.
Smon: An enormous worm-thing bursts forth from the ice in front of Thuruar, body pulsing with internal fire, winglike fins flaring from its head...
Smon: http://orig06.deviantart.net/fa84/f/2014/275/9/4/dnd___remorhaz_by_m0ai-d81btej.jpg
Kjato Ragfoot: Eek.
Smon: At the same time two smaller Remorhaz burst out of the snow near shieldbiter & the wyvern, lunging for them.
Smon: roll init
Smon: /roll d20+1
Smon rolls 1d20+1 and gets: 7, (+1) = 8
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 10, (+2) = 12
chris107: oh bugger
Smon: Hakeem races forward (60' off after a round of running at speed 40')
Smon: With his boots, I'll say next round he can move + jump and get into melee.
Smon: Thuruar can strike first as the giant Remorhaz lunges at him.
Smon: (Shieldbiter Wyvern & young remorhazes will be 'off camera')
chris107: He will fresh Rage and then berserk as he leaps to the attack!
Smon: OOC Hakeem hasn't had time to limber shield BTW, so AC reduced unless you want to take a round to put it on.
chris107: no he will get stuck in. This will be tough enough
Smon: Thuruar your go
Kjato Ragfoot: All right, I will start the fight with a Guiding Bolt.
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+9 and gets: 11, (+9) = 20
Smon: hit
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 4d6 and gets: 2, 1, 5, 6, = 14
Kjato Ragfoot: (Next attack on the Remorazh will have advantage)
Smon: It ignores the radiant bolt and lunges...
Smon: /roll d20+11
Smon rolls 1d20+11 and gets: 7, (+11) = 18
Smon: miss - its great jaws find no purchase on Thuruar's fine armour.
chris107: phew
Kjato Ragfoot: Phew.
Smon: It twists round, trying to bite/grab him, as Hakeem comes bounding up... roll init Hakeem
chris107 Rolls 1d20+2x2 and gets:
2 (+2) = 4
7 (+2) = 9
chris107: Not my night for rolls so far.
Smon: still beat my 8
Smon: OK Thuruar then Hakeem then critter.
chris107: (Does Hakeem know anything about Rhemoraz?)
Smon: INT check (no prof)
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets: 13,
Smon: Great worm things that haunt the high ice of the mountain glaciers... don't get eaten.
chris107: If he knows that their backs melt magical weapons he will strike it elsewhere
Smon: ok
Smon: PCs go
Kjato Ragfoot: All right. Inflict Wounds (level 7) on enemy.
Smon: do your attacks ok
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 2d20+5 and gets: 12, 13, (+5) = 30
chris107 Rolls 1d20+12x3 and gets:
9 (+12) = 21
13 (+12) = 25
5 (+12) = 17
Smon: hit
Smon: AC 17, 3 hits
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 9d10 and gets: 6, 5, 6, 8, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, = 39
Smon: Every time you hit it you take 10 fire damage
chris107 rolls 3d8+33 and gets: 2, 8, 7, (+33) = 50
Smon: Thuruar takes 10 fire, Hakeem takes 30 fire as its red hot body twists.
chris107: 159/197
Smon: Remorhaz takes 89 dmg.
chris107: 139/197 sorry
chris107: eek
Smon: /roll d2
Smon rolls 1d2 and gets: 1
Smon: It lunges at Hakeem.
Smon: /roll d20+11
Smon rolls 1d20+11 and gets: 3, (+11) = 14
chris107: phew!
Smon: It misses again (lucky!)
Smon: your go
chris107 Rolls 1d20+12x3 and gets:
17 (+12) = 29
20 (+12) = 32
3 (+12) = 15
chris107 rolls 4d8+22 and gets: 8, 5, 1, 2, (+22) = 38
Smon: You do more than 4d8 - Brutal Critical
chris107: just an extra 2d8 for brutal crit
Smon: oh sorry I see you missed
chris107: 1d8 +2d8 + 11 and 1d8+11
chris107: I did
Smon: So you only take 20 fire damage
chris107: 119/197HP
Smon: Thuruar?
Kjato Ragfoot: Thuruar will cast another Guiding Bolt. There is really little I can do against this monster, ill prepared spellwise...
Kjato Ragfoot: And radiant damage will at least blind it, hopefully.
Smon: In melee so have disad on ranged attack
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. Right. Grr.
Kjato Ragfoot: In that case, Inflict Wounds instead.
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+9 and gets: 19, (+9) = 28
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 3d10 and gets: 1, 5, 7, = 13
Smon: hit, you take 10 fire dmg
Smon: It's looking pretty ropey now, but mostly angry...
Smon: /roll d2
Smon rolls 1d2 and gets: 2
Smon: It lunges at Thuruar.
Smon: /roll d20+11
Smon rolls 1d20+11 and gets: 14, (+11) = 25
Smon: *chomp*
Smon: If that's a hit Thuruar takes 40 piercing & 10 fire damage and is in its maw.
chris107: ouch!
Smon: grappled & restrained (it'll swallow next round)
chris107: Hakeem swings mightily to save his friend from a horrid death
chris107 Rolls 1d20+12x3 and gets:
13 (+12) = 25
3 (+12) = 15
18 (+12) = 30
chris107 rolls 2d8+22 and gets: 7, 7, (+22) = 36
Kjato Ragfoot: A 25? Yes, that is a hit.
Smon: 2 hits, Hakeem takes 20 fire damage. Great bloody fiery vents appear on its neck, but the wounded monster still lives...
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+9 and gets: 13, (+9) = 22
Kjato Ragfoot: A pity.
Smon: Thuruar you have disad on your attack rolls as restrained.
chris107: 99/197
chris107: yeah not a good time for hakeem to miss a hit
Smon: (Yeah you might have killed it that round)
Kjato Ragfoot: Regardless, I will try to attack the beast from within its maw.
Smon: 22 is a hit but roll again
Smon: disad
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+18 and gets: 15, (+18) = 33
Smon: hit!!!
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20 and gets: 1,
Smon: I typo'd hot!!!
chris107: bugger
Smon: I was counting the 13, 13 & 15 so hit
Kjato Ragfoot: No. The first roll (the 22) was for keeping my spell running)
Smon: oh
Kjato Ragfoot: So, the 1 and the 15 are the attacks.
Smon: Should have said.
Smon: Remorhaz: *GULP*
Smon: /roll d20+11x2
Smon Rolls 1d20+11x2 and gets:
3 (+11) = 14
14 (+11) = 25
Kjato Ragfoot: And, if I remember correctly, a 1 always misses.
chris107: Good luck Kjato!
Smon: 25 - Remorhaz swallows Thuruar.
chris107: Hakeem will make a mighty swing to seperate it's head from it's body and hope that Thur falls out of the neck.
Smon: Thuruar takes another 40 piercing & 10 fire and is swallowed into the crushing acidic gullet of the beast.
Smon: Is Thuruar still up?
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes. 1 hit point left.
Smon: Has taken ca 120 dmg
Kjato Ragfoot: Stone Skin reduced some of the damage.
Smon: OK, Thuruar is still kicking as Hakeem slashes the wounded neck...
Smon: ok
chris107 Rolls 1d20+12x3 and gets:
1 (+12) = 13
20 (+12) = 32
19 (+12) = 31
chris107: arrgghh!
Smon: DC 25 concentration check for 50 dmg so you lost it on 1st bite right?
chris107 rolls 4d8+22 and gets: 1, 3, 6, 3, (+22) = 35
Smon: Your crit severs the neck.
chris107: "Thuruar!"
Smon: The dying beast falls.
Kjato Ragfoot: I lost it after the first bite, right. But it still halfed the damage of the first hit.
chris107: Hakeem tries to help his friend from the steaming gullet
chris107: (Does H take another 10HP by the way?)
Smon: Thuruar is unconscious by the time Hakeem hefts him out of the pools of hot acid spewing out of the dyng beast.
Smon: Yes 10 hp fire
chris107: 89/197
Smon: Then Thuruar takes 42 acid damage, Hakeem takes 21 acid damage rescuing him.
chris107: He rolls the priest of Athena in snow
Smon: Meanwhile Shieldbiter & Wyvern have dispatched the baby remorhazes, both now quite scorched.
Smon: Medicine man Hakeem rolls Thuruar, diluting and wearing off the acid.
chris107: searching his pouches for a healing potion68/197
Smon: Looks like he'll live (just) & you got 3600 XP each there.
chris107: That was a tough creature
Kjato Ragfoot: Indeed. Very tough.
Smon: Hakeem tends to Thuruar over the next hour - short rest, you can spend Healing dice.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 5d10 and gets: 2, 8, 9, 4, 3, = 26
Smon: No more remorhaz attack, and the snowfall has stopped completely, Blue sky appears over the rift, sunlight on the southern cliff face touces the ledge high above you.
Smon: Thuruar should be rolling d8+CON bonus per die
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. Right.
chris107 rolls 9d12+45 and gets: 10, 5, 7, 9, 1, 6, 4, 7, 7, (+45) = 101
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 5d8+10 and gets: 3, 8, 4, 6, 4, (+10) = 35
chris107: 167/197HP
Kjato Ragfoot: Also, two cure wounds for good measure.
Smon: Can spend more if you'd like to wake up (since hp go negative imc)
Smon: You were at -41 by my count T.
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. All right.
Smon:
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 10d8+20 and gets: 8, 5, 4, 4, 8, 2, 6, 4, 4, 5, (+20) = 70
Smon: You only have 14 hd so ignore the last roll -7
Smon: You get 35+63 hp back after spending all dice.
chris107: 169/197HP
Smon: -41 +98 puts you at 57 hp by my count T.
Kjato Ragfoot: That looks correct.
chris107: H has 7 healing dice left and has used 2 rages and 1 (recovered) berserk.
Kjato Ragfoot: Now, the two Cure Wounds.
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 2d8+10 and gets: 8, 3, (+10) = 21
Smon: Shieldbiter patches himself up and applies snow poultices to the wyvern's scorches.
chris107: Can we track these foul snow worms back to their nest?
Smon: The big remorhaz left a melted tunnel in the snow, you can descend into it & follow if you wish.
Kjato Ragfoot: YES! Death to the Snowworms!
chris107: yes please. perhaps use rope attached tothewyvern?
chris107: Maybe daddy snowworm is down there?
Smon: The wyvern & shieldbiter are staying topside to "guard your rear"
Smon: The hole is about 8' across, running about 10' below the snow surface through harder packed snow, nearly ice.
chris107: can we improvise crampons?
Smon: Weird bluish light filters down.
Smon: The melted & congealed surface is quite slippery but pocked with remorhaz footprints. You can move at half speed.
chris107: That works for me. Shield out this time.
Smon: /roll d6
chris107: Thur?
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Kjato Ragfoot: I am fine with that.
Smon: GM: You are in luck, as the tunnel leads straight for a few hundred yards across the valley floor, undulating and passing several collapsed tunnels, before opening out into a sort of permanent ice nest-cave about 30' across, 10' high.
chris107: look around for anything living
Smon: There are the remains of two recently hatche blue eggs, and metal debris - looks like a horned helm fit for a frost giant, several flame-blackened weapons, metal studs, nails etc.
chris107: and if not search the nest.
Smon: No sign of life, though there is gooey blue goop in the eggs.
chris107: "Thur should we destroy these horrid eggs or could we use these creatures agin the Nerathi?"
Kjato Ragfoot: I do not mind if all snowworms are already dead.
Smon: Amont the debris Hakeem finds an obsidian dragon comb set with gems for eyes worth 750gp.
Smon: And a finely made brass telescope with crystal lenses.
Smon: Bits of coinage & precious metal come to 650gp.
Kjato Ragfoot: The eggs already hatched, most likely, Shieldbiter is cooking one of the fledglings right now.
chris107: ah
chris107: "Nice haul though Thur."
Smon: OOC can play to 10pm.
Kjato Ragfoot: Yep.
chris107: That's cool with me Simon
Kjato Ragfoot: I can do that.
chris107: Pack up the stuff and go feast on Shieldbiters breakfast?
Kjato Ragfoot: Good idea.
Smon: When you emerge, Shieldbiter is roasting a succulent baby remorhaz, while the wyvern is nosing rather suspiciously at the other one.
Smon: Shieldbiter waves. "Wyvern better - ready fly now. We go?"
chris107: yum
chris107: Hakeem eats his fill of the delicacy
Kjato Ragfoot: Sure, right after breakfast.
Smon: Shieldbiter: "Tail is best bit - legs too bony..."
chris107:
Smon: You have a delicious meal of remorhaz (tastes like worm).
Smon: What now?
Smon: The sun has been creeping down the southern cliff face, now in late morning it touches the snow bank Hakeem failed to hit.
Kjato Ragfoot: Go and find the lost Tigerclaws!
chris107: Fly on to save the Tigerclaws from Varek!
Smon: GM: You mount up and fly out of the gorge?
chris107: (Hope your Dispel Magic idea works Kjato
chris107: Actually does breakfast count as another short break?
Smon: If you want.
chris107: Hakeem would like to use a further 3 healing dice if so.
Smon: ok
chris107 rolls 3d12+15 and gets: 8, 6, 5, (+15) = 34
chris107: 197/197HP
chris107: (I doubt Varek will be an easy fight)
Kjato Ragfoot: He definitely won't be an easy fight.
Smon: GM: Flapping its wings hard, driving up clouds of newfallen snow, the wyvern races down the valley and takes to flight, twisting to soar between the cliff faces as it rises.
Smon: Passing the ledge with its mysterious tunnel and unknown secrets, it rises higher...
Smon: Finally it bursts out of the gorge, on the flanks of a great snow-cloud mountain.
chris107: Hakeem looks longingly. Making a mental note of other landmarks to find it again.
Smon: Orienting by the sun high overhead, Shieldbiter sets a course south-west through the star-thrusting peaks.
Smon: An hour or so later, passing over a high saddle between bleak promonotories, the mountains fall away below down into rugged cliffs and the glittering headwaters of a river system.
Kjato Ragfoot: (What are promonotories? My dictionary does not know that word)
Smon: The wyvern begins its descent from the high icy peaks to the red hills below... your ears pop.
Smon: promontories sorry
Smon: big old mountains
chris107: Bits of high rock sticking out of a mountain
Smon: Jutting point of high land yup
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah. OK. That makes more sense now.
Smon: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLiQ65tQRavW6GWrA-LKHdOxzz_OaKf6ks8f1d9usalh6AO-fgpTrk6hbjx2YdRp_8RZQ4KgmMXDlCpR_yNM6QUzsz9S77UUWVtQXfIlv_JX4ncfaXBUObLb2msdMx41O2VSeaE0bO82k/s1600/WESTERN+ALTANIS.jpg
Smon: Should be in hex 2331
chris107: Thanks Simon
Smon: Though warmer than the mountaintops, the land here is bleak and little sign of life in the rugged hills, though a lush plain stretches out on the western horizon.
Smon: You begin searching for Altanians...
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Smon: wow
Smon: Seriiously it was 1 to find Altanian, 6 for enemy attack
chris107: We are hot at finding Altanians
Kjato Ragfoot: We were quite sure to find something, even though I assumed we would run into something more annoying than Altanians.
chris107: The Tigerclaws are Altanians
Smon: You've only been looking for a couple hours when that afternoon you spot movement below along a stream - a single Altanian youth, fleeing from the dark loping forms of several vicious Orcs!
Kjato Ragfoot: I know, but I assumed they would have been eaten by worms that turned them into undead or something like that.
Smon: The orcs look up as the wyvern swoops closer, its shadow passing over them...
chris107: hehe
chris107: "We must save the boy!"
Smon: The boy is scrambling up boulders about 80' from the orcs - five in total.
Kjato Ragfoot: Those orcs will probably die from a heart attack once they see you.
Kjato Ragfoot: Otherwise, you are right.
chris107: Lets get them
Smon: Shieldbiter nods and brings the wyvern down in the stream, the only place wide enough. Spreading its wings it blocks the orcs' view of their quarry.
Smon: /roll 2d6
chris107: "The boy may know where the Tigerclaws are."
Smon rolls 2d6 and gets: 5, 2, = 7
chris107: (can we tell his tribe from this distance?)
Kjato Ragfoot: Eh. We can simply ask him once we killed those orcs.
Smon: The orcs hesitate, hefting axes and javelins. Their gear bears the distinctive zigzag flash markings of the Arang-Tok, and on their hauberks are crudely painted the Black Sun.
chris107: "Grrrrrrr!"
Smon: Are you dismounting to attack?
chris107: It may be easier
chris107: Sorry, supper just arrived, typing 1 handed
Smon: The orcs fling a flurry of javelins at you.
Kjato Ragfoot: Definitely. I don't want to break my neck because I fell from a wyvern while fighting orcs.
Smon: /roll d3x5
Smon Rolls 1d3x5 and gets:
3 = 3
2 = 2
3 = 3

20 (+5) = 25
Smon: 2 hits? 7 dmg each.
chris107: AC20
chris107: so H takes 14?
Kjato Ragfoot: AC 21.
Smon: No, only 1 thrown at H, "23". 7 dmg
Kjato Ragfoot: So, two hits.
Smon: 4 vs T, 2 hits, 14 dmg yup
Smon: Shieldbiter spurs the wyvern at the orcs... roll init

13 (+5) = 18

Smon: 1 hit, 10 dmg.
Smon: >5
chris107: ac20
chris107: 180/197
chris107: 185/197
Smon: The orcs look befuddled as their puny blows have little effect...
Smon: The boy flings a slingstone...
Smon: /roll d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 7, (+4) = 11
Smon: miss
chris107: Hakeem laughs at their consternation
Smon: Wyvern lunges
Smon: /roll d20+7x2
Smon Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
11 (+7) = 18
1 (+7) = 8
Smon: bites one, wounding him, stinger misses.
Smon: Thuruar?
Smon: Hakeem can attack again.
Kjato Ragfoot: Thuruar attacks one of the orcs as well.
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+9 and gets: 9, (+9) = 18
chris107: strike back at one that hit him first?
chris107 rolls 1d20+12 and gets: 8, (+12) = 20
chris107: then 2 attacks
chris107 Rolls 1d20+12x2 and gets:
9 (+12) = 21
1 (+12) = 13
chris107: 2 hits?
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d6+4 and gets: 6, (+4) = 10
Smon: Thuruar can dismount and attack, striking a wounded orc, as Hakeem also hits one.
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d8 and gets: 8,
Smon: AC 13, 3 hits
Kjato Ragfoot: 18 damage on one unlucky orc.
chris107 rolls 2d8+22 and gets: 3, 5, (+22) = 30
Smon: Thuruar slays an orc, Hakeem wounds then slays a 2nd.
Smon: /roll 2d6
Smon rolls 2d6 and gets: 6, 6, = 12
Smon: The remaining 2 orcs turn & flee in terror!
Smon: Full flee so you all get 1 free attack
Smon: wyvern:
Smon: /roll d20+8
Smon rolls 1d20+8 and gets: 18, (+8) = 26

Smon: /roll d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 4, (+4) = 8
Smon: miss.
Smon: It disappears into a narrow defile between boulders.
Smon: Too tight for the wyvern.
Smon: actions?
Smon: It's now out of sight.
chris107: Can Hakeem safely leap?
Smon: Hakeem can chase after it,
chris107: and hurl a stone after the fleeing orc?
Smon: opposed Athletics check to catch it in the rocks
chris107: okay
Kjato Ragfoot: You can easily outrun it, till it collapses from fatigue, if you want to.
chris107 rolls 1d20+10 and gets: 14, (+10) = 24
Smon: It is out of sight & may Evade you.
Smon: /roll d20+5
Smon rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 14, (+5) = 19
Smon: Hakeem corners the last orc in the defile.

Kjato Ragfoot: Hello boy.
I welcome you."
Smon: OOC stopping there.
Smon: Will get a minor quest award for finding the Tigerclaw.
Smon: I thought it'd take days & days...

7:07pm  2016-9-17 chris107 Has entered the room
Smon: Evening Chris
chris107: Evening Simon
7:09pm  2016-9-17 Kjato Ragfoot Has entered the room
Kjato Ragfoot: Hello!
chris107: Hi Kjato
Smon: GM: So last session Hakeem killed the undead worm & saved Laurana his amazon half sister from its gullet...
Smon: >>Smon: There is much congratulations, Laurana thanks the gnomes. Smon: Naran: "Though it does puzzle me that the Worm should skirt the outer tunnels and make straight for the guest chambers..." Smon: Thuruar: "What are you saying?" chris107: "Aye, indeed. Perhaps priest Thurur could augury this odd behavior?" Smon: Naran scratches his beard. "Could it be that the Nerathi detected your presence? Are able to track you, somehow?" Smon: Thuruar: "I shall commune with Athena..."<<
Kjato Ragfoot: Hmm.
chris107: hmmmm
Kjato Ragfoot: I am not entirely sure what kind of Yes/No question would solve this puzzle.
chris107: 2 mins
Smon: last session - http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/session-79-11-12104446-hakeem-vs-worm.html
chris107: Ah ya
chris107: Saved only by Barbarian ability to save at 0 HP!
Smon: Feel free to ask Athena 3 questions
Kjato Ragfoot: Was it a coincidence that the worm directly approached the sleeping chambers?
Smon: "No"
chris107: good question
Kjato Ragfoot: Was the worm targeting a specific person?
Smon: "Yes"
chris107: hmmm
Kjato Ragfoot: (Chris: Any suggestions? I am not sure what else to ask. I am quite certain the worm was sent to kill "the killer of Yusan", but I am not sure whether knowing that will do us any good)
chris107: (Struggling. Can we get a target by finding out who sent it? Someone to send attacks back at?)
Kjato Ragfoot: (I consider asking a completely unrelated question, unless you have anything specifical you would like to ask for)
Kjato Ragfoot: (We know that Boris Crowfinger send the worm. The guy who conjured the 1000 ghouls and turned Tigerclaw into a wraith).
chris107: (Ah, I have had a busy few weeks)
Kjato Ragfoot: (I just looked it up, Simon stated that in the log three games ago)
Smon: Boritt Crowfinger is the Nerathi Arch-Necromancer, yup.
Smon: & a Prince of Restored Nerath.
chris107: can we use that to our advantage?
Smon: Tal Lorvas who you killed in the sea battle was his apprentice.
chris107: Send our own summons back?
chris107: Give them reason to think twicE ABOUT DOING IT AGAIN.
chris107: sorry caps lock
Kjato Ragfoot: I am quite sure they thought a whole lot how lot what to conjure against Hakeem.
Smon: ooc just let me know what you want to do now.
Kjato Ragfoot: OK. Last question: Does the Bane Spawn have a weakness we can exploit?
Smon: "Yes"
chris107: drat!
Kjato Ragfoot: Good. Now we just need to find that weakness!
chris107: So we are with the Gnomes?
Smon: yes you're still in Ractuan.
Smon: You have a nice brunch with the gnome rulers & they ask you how things are going.
chris107: "We are thinking of sending the Nerathi some of their own medicine."
Smon: As Hakeem speaks, you hear a low roll of thunder from outside. King Drudil claps his hands happily: "A good omen!"
chris107: "Bondorr!"
chris107: "We must raid Bisgen"
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, we need to retrieve Bondorrs armour from the Nerathi.
Kjato Ragfoot: Coincidently, the guy who conjured the worm is said to live near Bisgen.
chris107:
Smon: Naran the gnomish druid: "The worm is decaying rapidly - I found this implanted in what might pass for its brain..." - he produces an odd, rudely carved statuette, vaguely manlike, a lightning bolt carved in white on the black stone. "A fetish, perhaps."
Kjato Ragfoot: Hmm.
Kjato Ragfoot: Look Hakeem, it looks similar to you.
Smon: Drudil nods: "They say Boritt Crowfinger raised Varek Tigerclaw, wearer of Bondorr's armour, as a foul Death Knight - very powerful."
chris107: Hakeem touches the lightning bolt symbol at his neck
Smon: Drudil: "Varek has been hunting down the Tigerclaw, his old clan, in their final redoubts - recently he slew the Sword Knight Koltan. I fear soon the Tigerclaw will be gone from this world."
chris107: "I hear he can not be slain?"
Smon: Naran: "Not while the black gem sits in the armour's chest plate - smash the gem, and he should become mortal."
chris107: "We would be doing a great service to this world and to Bondorr if we could lay his troubled soul to rest."
Kjato Ragfoot: Indeed.
Smon: The Warforged Bulwark appears to grimace sadly. "VAREK WAS MY FRIEND... TOGETHER WE FOUGHT MANY BATTLES."
Kjato Ragfoot: Also, we have a special tactic to get rid of people that cannot die.
chris107: "Thuruar, can your mighty magic find a way to smash this gem? Or take the armour from it and keep it complete?"
Smon: He sips his oil. "TOGETHER WE DESTROYED AZM ZEALOT, SMASHED THE ARANG TOK... AH, THOSE WERE GREAT DAYS."
chris107: Hakeem looks at the mighty warforged
chris107: "Lord Bulwark. I know what it is to loose great hearts in war."
chris107: "I have only great respect for Varek and his mighty deeds."
Kjato Ragfoot: I could try to dispel the magic on the gem, then you should have a chance to shatter it with a good hit.
Smon: Bulwark's voice lowers. "Aye. And I have lost many."
chris107: "But now he is gone and only his shell is left to serve wicked ends."
Smon: Thuruar you can make a Religion check.
chris107: "Is there some way to keep the armour intact and yet let us release the soul of Varek?"
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+9 and gets: 8, (+9) = 17
Smon: pass.
Smon: Thuruar knows that unlike with most undead, the Death Knight's soul remains trapped in its body, in torment.
Smon: The Armour of Bondorr traditionally carries a crystal or diamond in the breastplate that can transport the slain wearer to the nearest temple of Bondorr and Raise him there, destroying the gem.
chris107: cool
Smon: Borritt may have corrupted the armour so that now it holds a gem-phylactery, similar to that of a Lich?
chris107: But would the twisted soul of Varek still be treated the same?
chris107: ah
chris107: Hakeem knows nothing of twisted necromancy
Smon: Over the past decade Varek is known to have been apparently destroyed several times, but always return.
chris107: but knows that Varek was a fellow Sword Knight.
Smon: Thuruar's best bet would be to use Positive Energy (turn undead) vs the black gem.
chris107: "So Thuruar, shall we go free my poor brother?"
Kjato Ragfoot: "Indeed, we should Hakeem."
chris107: "Strike a blow agin the Nerathi, liberate the armour of my master and set free the tortured soul of my brother."
Smon: Naran: "If you are flying west from here, best do so under cover of darkness - the Nerathi have many orc scouts of the Arang-Tok. They are based at the ancient Stargazer tower at the western end of the pass."
chris107: "Shbould we also bring the town and temple back into our hands?"
Smon: The gnomes bring forth a map of the western lands - https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLiQ65tQRavW6GWrA-LKHdOxzz_OaKf6ks8f1d9usalh6AO-fgpTrk6hbjx2YdRp_8RZQ4KgmMXDlCpR_yNM6QUzsz9S77UUWVtQXfIlv_JX4ncfaXBUObLb2msdMx41O2VSeaE0bO82k/s1600/WESTERN+ALTANIS.jpg
Kjato Ragfoot: No. The temple is far to close to enemy lands, we can only raid it, not conquer it.
chris107: Hakeen studies the map.
chris107: His new found wisdom
chris107: lets him seee the truth in Thur's words
Smon: Drudil: "The last of the Tigerclaw are hiding in the caves at the headwaters of the Barath river, east of the Aran-Tok orc territories. Most likely you will find Varek there."
chris107: Though he would greatly like to see the temple of Bondorr liberated.
chris107: "Then that is where we shall start."
chris107: "Thuruar?"
Smon: "We heard of Koltan's death a week ago - but Chief Kalgol and Mama Kala escaped the battle through Kala's magic. Varek may still be hunting them."
Kjato Ragfoot: (What is a headwater?)
Smon: Where the river starts - from springs.
chris107: the start of a river
Kjato Ragfoot: (Ah. Thanks)
Kjato Ragfoot: Hakeem, we should go, defeat Tigerclaw and invite his clan into the Ghinarian confederacy.
Kjato Ragfoot: Where they can finally fight the Nerathi on even terms again, without having to worry about a death knight eating their soul.
chris107: "Your wisom, as always is sound."
chris107: "It is time for Varek's soul to rest."
chris107: "And to strike a blow agin the Black Sun."
Smon: /roll 2d8
Smon rolls 2d8 and gets: 5, 6, = 11
chris107: @ Simon. Have we rested and recovered from the mighty battle of last time?
Smon: Laurana: "I am willing to fly there on Goldmane, over the mountains. From the map, is half a day from here to the Tigerclaw lands."
Smon: You have had 1 long rest so full hp & half your hd back.
chris107: "Thuruar, do you think your magic will prevail over that of the Crowfinger?"
chris107: thanks.
Kjato Ragfoot: I am not sure, Crowfinger is immensly powerful. But I think it is worth a try.
chris107: Hakeem bear hugs the wise old battle priest.
chris107: "We have not failed yet my friend!"
Smon: GM: Shieldbiter is also willing to carry you on the Royal Wyvern, which could carry both of you if you wanted to send Laurana back.
chris107: @ Simon, can H use the Sword of Bondorr yet or does he need to reforge it?
chris107: hehe
Smon: You can use it but it's a greatsword so no shield.
chris107: sending Laurana anywhere she didn't want to go would be a task beyond us I fear
Smon:
Smon: Like brother like sister.
chris107: Hakeem prays to his God
chris107:
chris107: "Master!? Is it time yet to use your sword?"
chris107: (He feels it is a holy weapon)
chris107: (If not perhaps laurana could fly it back to Lady Meda/Malen?
Kjato Ragfoot: Thuruar will tell Dudil that the Bane Spawn is supposed to have a weakness, and whether he can think about what that might be? Perhaps do some research as well?
Smon: Hakeem doesn't get an answer from Bondorr.
chris107: (If yes, Bondorr says that it is time to use the weapon v. Vareck then fly Bloodletter back)
Smon: You suspect it would be ok to put the Sword in a shrine for now.
chris107:
Smon: Drudil: "They say Kainos the Warbringer is angry and proud, like his father - rash, perhaps."
chris107: "Sister. I have need of your swift wings. I go into danger and need this blade of Bondorr taking to my child. For I feel it is his destiny to be the one to weild it. Will you do this for ma?"
Smon: Naran the druid shrugs. "I know little of such things."
Smon: Laurana nods, throwing her shoulders back proudly. "Aye! I will be honoured to take this weapon to your child."
chris107: He hugs his sister warmly.
chris107: "Our family has a greater destiny than ours."
Smon: Laurana hugs back, not wincing as the bear hug smooshes her slight frame.
chris107: "Come Thur!let us go release the soul of Sword Knight Varek!"
Smon: "My ...nephew... shall receive the blade. And I shall consult with Lady Meda about the Bane Son."
chris107: Hakeem, his next task clear bids all a hearty farewell.
Kjato Ragfoot: Indeed. With everything else put into good hands, let's release Tigerclaw and his clan from their curse.
chris107: (Or hastily avoids doing war upon the son of Ares perhaps? For now!  )
Smon: GM: That evening after nightfall, Lauran mounts Goldmane and flies east back down the pass towards Thusia, while Hakeem & Thuruar mount behind Shieldbiter on the wyvern.
chris107: (Kjato, any special tactics or spells for this ?)
Smon: The gnomes point you south west, over high mountains that jut ever-snowcapped towards the stars.
Kjato Ragfoot: (I would assume Dispel Magic might help, but the main part is to restrain Tigerclaw till we get the gem)
Smon: Bidding your farewells, the wyvern takes to flight, rising rapidly until the air becomes thin and bitter cold.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
chris107: Hakeem leaps upon the back of the mighty beast. Trying out the powers of his new boots.
Smon: A strong wind whips around you, bringing blinding snow.
chris107: Hakeem pulls his old wolfskin cloak tight around his mighty frame
Smon: As the hours pass it becomes clear the wyvern is becoming both chilled - sluggish - and disoriented by cold worse than any it has ever known in the warm winds of Oricha.
chris107: "Shieldbiter?"
Smon: Shieldbiter too seems sluggish, scales rimed with frost.
chris107: "Your mighty steed seems troubled. Shall we fly lower?"
Smon: Shieldbiter nods. The wyverns descends - and suddenly a great black cliff looms before you, right ahead!
Smon: The wyvern tries to turn...
chris107: eek
chris107: "Up!"
Smon: DC 13 DEX check for wyvern:
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 1,
Smon: *smash*
chris107: oops
chris107:
Smon: The wyvern smashes head-first into a jutting promontory, and then plummets unconscious towards the ground!
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 6,
chris107: bugger
chris107: not a good time for the Simon 6!
Smon: You see a ledge below as the wyvern tumbles earthwards with you on board, but the wyvern will just miss it - do you want to leap for the ledge, cast a spell, or ride the unconscous wyvern down?
chris107: Hakeem leaps towards the mountainside. Using the magic of his boots
Kjato Ragfoot: Would a healing spell or a lesser restoration revive the wyvern?
chris107: He will then scale down after the plummeting beadt and his friends.
Smon: Hakeem leaps from the tumbling wyvern, down onto the icy ledge - make DC 12 Acrobatics (DEX) check Hakeem.
chris107 rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 16, (+7) = 23
Kjato Ragfoot: Thuruar will cast Lesser Restoration on the wyvern.
Smon: Lesser Restoration should end its Stunned condition yup
chris107: yay! nice one Kjato!
Smon: Hakeem lands lightly on all fours on the ledge.
Smon: Thuruar tries to cast as the wyvern tumbles groundwards... DC 10 Concentration (CON) check Thuruar to get spell off.
chris107: good luck!
Smon: CON bonus + prof
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 14, (+7) = 21
Smon: The wyvern's eyes blink open - Shieldbiter yanks on the reins as an icy, boulder strewn valley floor looms perilously close below...
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 11,
Smon: The wyvern spreads its wings and flaps, swooping down and skimming across the terrain to land in a snow bank.
Smon: /roll d6
chris107: "THUR! SHIELDBITER!"
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
Smon: For once there are no Remorhaz in the snow bank.
chris107: Phew!
Kjato Ragfoot: Hakeem, your lack of faith disturbs me. (chr, chr)
Smon: Hakeem calls down to his friends far below. Looking around, he sees that a narrow opening leads from the ledge, deeper into the mountainside. The stone around the opening is carved with ancient runes - skull? dragons?
chris107: "Someone would have had to collect your smashed bones and taken them to Athena Thuruar." Says Hakeem without a hint of humour
chris107: KEWL!
chris107: "Thuruar! Come and see this!"
Smon: Thuruar is about 200' below you and 300' off.
Smon: /roll d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 2, (+4) = 6
Smon: The wind is dying down a bit, Thuruar hears Hakeem's distant yells.
chris107: (Just for refrerence, which hex are we in Simon?)
Kjato Ragfoot: Shieldbiter, how long till your wyvern can fly again?
chris107: (Is the entrance large enough for the Wyvern?)
Smon: Shieldbiter reassures the upset wyvern, stroking her(?) behind the ear. "She's had big bump! Needs rest!"
Smon: The entrance is only about 3' wide, too narrow for the wyvern.
Smon: Beyond the fissure there appears to be a passage leading into the mountainside, descending slightly.
chris107: "Shieldbiter, can you fly the beast to safety while Thur and I check this out?"
chris107: (If you'd like to Kjato?)
Smon: Shieldbiter: "Not safe to fly in this weather! Wait for morning!"
Kjato Ragfoot: Is there any place nearby where she could rest safely?
Kjato Ragfoot: We could try to build her a snow wall to keep the wind off.
Smon: She could burrow into the snow bank, it seems soft enough.
chris107: good
Kjato Ragfoot: And then check out what Hakeem has found while your wyvern gathers her strenght.
Smon: Shieldbiter and the wyvern get digging into the snow with stiff claws.
Smon: Has Thuruar any way to get up to the ledge?
chris107: Hakeem frowns. His patheticaly short rope will be of no use.
Kjato Ragfoot: Not really. I cannot fly or anything like that.
chris107: Hakeem searches for a way up for the cleric using his survival skills
Smon: In the dark, with the wind and snow, climbing the cliff will be nearly impossible - lots of DC 25 Athletics checks.
chris107: eek
chris107: Shall we try wait until morning Kjato?
Smon: 1 per 30'. so 6 checks ]for Thuruar.
chris107: risk Simon's dreadfulk 6's?
Kjato Ragfoot: Theoretically, I could conjure a flying ice demon, but I think that would be slightly excessive.
Kjato Ragfoot: Even with advantage, rolling six times above 25 in a row is extremely unlikely.
chris107: This Ice Dragon cave seems Gods given...
chris107: I think we should
chris107: Ice demon or not
chris107: Hakeem has a good feeling
chris107: The Dragon is another symbol of Bondorr?
Kjato Ragfoot: But! I can cast Clairvoyance and take a look at whatever Hakeem found. I will not be able to assist him, but I will be able to study it.
Kjato Ragfoot: The spell has a range of 1 mile, that should be sufficient.
chris107: excellent!
Smon: GM: OK, Thuruar casts Clairvoyance. He sees the narrow tunnel entrance, the surrrounding runes. They look familiar... Investigation (INT+Prof) Check.
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 2, (+5) = 7
Smon:
chris107: grrr
Smon: You think they might be Orichalan script but that is all you can tell.
chris107: Shieldbiter?
chris107: could you describe them to him?
Kjato Ragfoot: Could I try to copy the script and ask a sage who knows more about such things later?
Smon: Shieldbiter is busy getting cosy in the snowdrift, eyelids droop sleepily.
Kjato Ragfoot: Because I suspect that might be one of the stations of that dragonic empire we saw the broadcoast from in one of the earlier dungeon.
Smon: Yes you can make a copy, could ask eg Lady Meda later.
chris107: @ Simon, does Bloodletter glow?
chris107: Hakeem is eager to investigate
chris107: (If somewhat disturbed he sent the Dragonslayer back  )
Smon:
Smon: No, sword does not glow. If you get out of the wind you could light a torch.
chris107: He will do so, slipping inside, hoping Thur's magic will see.
Smon: OOC Might stop soon, play on Wednesday when Bill's here?
Smon: GM: Hakeem enters the tunnel, lights a torch.
chris107: I should be good foe Wednesday.
Smon: With Bloodletter in the other hand, the flickering light illuminates the grey rock. The passage descends gently, widening slightly.
Smon: Are you following it down?
chris107: heading in which direction? (for map)
Smon: Hmm. Make an INT check.
chris107: Barbarian senses alert to traps. Yes.
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 1, (+5) = 6
chris107:
chris107: Stupid Hakeem! (so what's new?)
Smon: You have no idea which compass direction.
chris107: okay
chris107: we were flying west though when we hit the cliff head on?
chris107: (Cool boots by the way  )
Smon: As you descend the air becomes warmer.
Smon: The blue glow is clearly not natural, it reeks of sorcery.
chris107: H winds his way back and will wait within the tunnel for his friend
Smon: Resting until daylight?
chris107: unless the ice demon brings his chum.
chris107: (I get the feeling this is a significant find)
Smon: Hakeem backtracks away from the eldritch light, then settles down to wait... OK will stop there for now.
chris107: Nice one. Thanks guys!
Smon: OOC I like it when you go off track a bit & run into stuff.
chris107: hehe
chris107: we need some adventuring
chris107: the campaign stuff is really cool but a bit of adventure...

8:00pm  2016-9-07 chris107 Has entered the room
chris107: Hey Simon.
chris107: Will just top up the vino
Smon: Heya chris
Smon: Thought we could play for an hour or so tonight, maybe get you to level 16?
chris107: That would be cool. Got the Gnomes to save afterall
chris107: 1 min, just get wine
Smon: ok ready
Smon: >>Smon: 300gp of diamond are consumed in golden light as Goldmane's mortal wounds mend, and his amber eyes blink open. He looks up at Thuruar. "Meep?" chris107: "HURAH!" Smon: Laurana's face fills with joy, and she hugs the great beast. Smon: "I... I will not forget this, Priest Thuruar. Thank you."<<
chris107: ready
chris107: "Laurana, Thuruar, Shielbiter! We must make haste!2
Smon: GM: Laurana & Hakeem remount the wounded griffon, Shieldbiter & Thuruar on the wyvern. Full dusk has fallen by the time you reach the mountain-cleft fortress town of Ractuan and are greeted by a group of gnome dignatories at the main gate.
Smon: You recognise Naran the Druid https://holiviantales.files.wordpress.com/2015/03/gnome10.png?w=470 one of the emissaries who recently came to Thusia.
chris107: "Has your emmisery warned you?"
chris107: Cool
Smon: Naran: "Greetings my friends! Let me introduce King Drudil and Queen Freia".
Smon: The gnome monarchs nod cordially.
chris107: "Your majesties."
Smon: Laurana: "Your majesties..." she drops to her knee, bowing before the dimunitive royals.
chris107: "An honour."
Smon: Thuruar kneels too, pulling Shieldbiter down beside him.
Smon: Does Hakeem kneel, bow, nod... ?
chris107: "Naran has warned you of your danger?"
chris107: He will nod respectfuly
Smon: Drudil: "Chief Hakeem! So good to see you!" pipes the king. "Yes, Naran brought word yesterday morn."
Smon: "Our scouts are searching the lower tunnels now, for signs of introgression."
chris107: "Priest Thuruar should be able to detect the foul creatures approach. We have little time to loose."
Smon: "Please, join us for dinner ...mind your head."
Smon: The gnomes escort you into the heavily fortified burrows, Hakeem & Shieldbiter bent alsmost double.
chris107: Hakeem shrugs and whispers to Thur to do his stuff. Keeping Bloodletter close to hand.
chris107: (And his new dirk)
Smon: After washing you are escorted to a good sized oblong hall, seated at the high table with a dozen gnome dignatories and a very battered looking steel man you recognise as the Warforged Bulwark of Madcat Mountain. One of his eyes appears missing and there is a huge rent in his armoured skull.
Smon: Bulwark: "HAIL, CHIEF HAKEEM! GOOD TO SEE YOU."
chris107: "Warforged Bulwark?! Are you well?Q"
Smon: His steel face somehow breaks into a smile,
chris107:
chris107: Hakeem has great respect for Lord Bulwark
Smon: Bulwark shrugs. "The battle with the Nerathi Army was hard - a zombie ogre's halberd smote my pate..."
chris107: "We shall reap terrible vengence when our time comes."
Smon: "But the alert we received from the Seawolf Druid allowed us to set an ambush and defeat them."
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
chris107: "We are stronger through our friendships."
Smon: Bulwark nods. "Well said. Let's toast - to friendship!"
Smon: He raises a steaming goblet of hot oil. The gnomes raise their mugs of ale.
chris107: Hakeem looks eaderly for ale.
chris107 rolls 1d6 and gets: 6,
chris107: (Sorry just showing Ky;le how dice roller works)
Smon: King Drudil hands Hakeem a brimming flagon, toasts, then sips his own ale. "Indeed, the alliance of Free Peoples has already born good fruit... I hear the Vale is free of Evil now, for the first time in a human generation."
Smon: Gnomish serving maids bring great haunches of mutton for the feast.
chris107: "Not yet free of evil your majesty. But we are well on our way. Your folks efforts bring us such aid."
Smon: Shieldbiter grabs a whole roast ewe, tucking in eagerly.
chris107: yum and slurp
Smon: OOC the Vale is the area south of the Ghinarian Hills.
chris107: yup
Smon: Drudil: "So, when the rainy season ends, do you plan to march on Nerath? End this evil at the source?"
chris107: (I have the map as my screen saver on both phone and lap top
Smon:
chris107: "We must first settle matters in our own new found lands. I have plans to harry the Black Sun in their own lands before we do war upon them in earnest."
Smon: Drudil nods. "I fear only that the Black Sun plan new evil... Tigerclaw scouts report that the Bane Son has been seen in the South, among the Orc tribes of the Arang-Tok..."
chris107: "They send Hell's spawn, like this worm to spoil our plans. This will be as nothing to the injuries we shall rain upon them."
Smon: Freia: "But the Bane Son is an Empyrean - a God's Son - how can we face such power?"
chris107: "I have plans to secure the armour of Bondorr and have his sword reforged. This will alow me to battle the Bane Son myself."
chris107: "The son of Ares is mine to battle."
chris107: "When the time is right. "
Smon: Freia: "I hope you are right... none have faced Kainos and lived..." she shudders.
chris107: Hakeem grins his winning grin.
Smon: Laurana: "Have faith my Queen - I have seen Chief Hakeem and Thuruar in battle - they are invincible!"
chris107: "We shall not fail you."
Smon: Drudil nods. "And when the Black Sun are defeated and the Bane Son is cast down... the land will need a King... a true King." He looks quizzically at Hakeem.
Smon: "Have anyone in mind?"
chris107: "I have no need of a crown. "
chris107: "I seek only a land free of evil and slavery. A land where my son can grow free."
Smon: Freia grins: "Typical Altani answer! You do not need a Crown - but the Land needs you!"
chris107: "I shall fight for this land. To make a land fit for heroes."
chris107: "But I have no desire to rule."
Smon: Drudil: "Without a King, when danger passes the Alliance will end, the land will slip back into Chaos. But with a King - a good King - there might be Peace, for the first time in more than two centuries. If not you, then who?"
chris107: "This will take time. I suggest that we teach my son to be king. Raise him to rule."
chris107: With the aid of wise council such as yours and lady Meda we have a chance to raise a truely wise King.
Smon: Drudil quaffs thoughtfully. "Hm... even with short human lives, that might be too long... But perhaps it is best."
chris107: (Worth a try  )
Smon: Naran: "The best King is one who has no desire to rule - no desire to dominate. A man at one with the Land, and with his own Heart."
chris107: (Hakeem will be king, he just hasn't admited it to himself yet)
chris107: (He shall be Conan!)
chris107: (And also intends to lead a united South agin the CSIO and the Red Reavers, but don't tell Kjato!)
Smon: GM: After dinner you check that the mounts are well cared for, then are escorted to human-size individual sleeping chambers. Laurana pauses beside Hakeem at his round door, she seems to want to speak of something.
Smon: "Hakeem... "She looks down "...Brother, they say."
chris107: Hakeem of course lisstens to his half sister.
chris107: "Sister." he answers firmly.
Smon: She looks up. "I have a debt to you -I stole from you, our father's life. You had defeated him... the kill was your right."
chris107: "Sister!" he laughs kindly
chris107: "We are both warriors. The cur deserved to die. You got lucky." he smiles broadly in true warrior kindred spirit
Smon: She grits her teeth. "If you had done that to me, I would have killed you - or tried too..." she smiles faintly, for Hakeem's invincibility is legendary.
Smon: Laurana seems comforted by Hakeem's smile and kind words. "You bear me no ill will?" she asks.
chris107: "Sister. Our bladdes will share many kills in the months and years to come. let us do so in the spirit of true warriors?"
chris107: "The world will tremble before us."
Smon: Laurana raises her head, smiles proudly. "Aye, as true blood kin!" She produces a dagger, moves the point to her palm.
chris107: Hakeem stands ready to join his sister. Proudly and in blood
Smon: Slowly, Laurana cuts a shallow gash across her palm, so that blood wells, then offers Hakeem the blade.
chris107: he joins her in this most ancient of binding ceremonies
Smon: Hakeem cuts his own palm, then they grasp hands, blood intermingling with blood.
Smon: "Blood kin - to our last day. Let us trample the jeweled thrones of Nerath beneath our feet!"
chris107: "Aye sister! And beyond!"
Smon: Laurana clasps Hakeem's broad arm, looks up into his eyes. "One day, with your aid, I will rule the Amazons of Highaven, like my mother before me. When that day comes I will put our full force at your command."
chris107: "Altani and Amazon together sister."
Smon: OOC deduct 1 hp Hakeem
Smon: "Together!"
chris107: 184/185HP
chris107: OOC - would be pretty cool to raise an army to conquor the CSIO eventually.
Smon:
Smon: Hakeem eventually retires to a stone-slabbed burrow bed, sleeping somewhat fitfullly.
Smon: But not for long...
chris107: I expected not
Smon: A crash brings him wide awake, and cries: "The worm! Aah!"
chris107: (The shortsword/dirk was taken to cut his way out of the worm if needed.)
Smon: Outside in the corridor - not far... but then the wall to his left bulges inwards, into the narrow bedroom...
Smon: Suddenly the masonry gives way with a crash, and into the room comes an enormous hooked stinger, 8' long and dripping with foul black venom!
chris107: H leaps from his bed grabbing sword, shield and tucking the dirk about his person.
Smon: It writhes around, attached to a great bulk beyond, seeming seeking Hakeem...
Smon: roll init
chris107: H rages and attacks. he will berserk when he can
chris107 Rolls 1d20+2x2 and gets:
16 (+2) = 18
16 (+2) = 18
Smon: /roll d20-2
Smon rolls 1d20-2 and gets: 12, (-2) = 10
Smon: GM: You can grab sword as object interaction, each additonal item uses up an Attack.
Smon: Want to grab both dirk & shield & not attack, or 1 item & 1 attack ...?
chris107: Can he rage?
chris107: As he has init?
Smon: Yeah.
chris107: If so he will grab sword and shield
chris107: Berserk next round
Smon: ok grab all 3 items & not attack?
Smon: The stinger aims at Hakeem:
chris107: yes please
Smon: /roll d20+9
Smon rolls 1d20+9 and gets: 17, (+9) = 26
chris107: AC20
chris107: ouch
Smon: It strikes you. Make a dc 19 con save vs the poison.
chris107 rolls 1d20+10 and gets: 12, (+10) = 22
chris107:
Smon: 19 piercing dmg/2 = 9, plus 42 poison/2 for save = 21, so 30 dmg total.
Smon: round 2 - your go.
chris107: 154/185
chris107: Berserk
chris107 Rolls 1d20+12x3 and gets:
6 (+12) = 18
10 (+12) = 22
16 (+12) = 28
Smon: The way to the door is part blocked by the flailing stinger, you can hear sounds of battle and screams nearby.
Smon: ac 18, 3 hits
chris107 rolls 3d8+33 and gets: 2, 4, 5, (+33) = 44
Smon: Hakeem hacks, foul black ichor gushing. Stinger strikes...

Smon: Reflexively the foul creature begins to withdraw.
chris107: Hakeem pils in to find his sis
chris107: Hacking at the things innards
Smon: Hakeem dives into the foul thing, hacking through what on the interior seems an oddly hollow husk... but it still drips foul acid that burns his flesh.

chris107: Phew!
chris107: 1/185HP!
Smon: Hakeem bursts from the back of the dying Worm, the unconscious Amazon in his arms, as it writhes in its death throes, spewing great pools of acid.
Smon: If it is undead it seems to still have most characteristics of the living.
chris107: He croakily shouts for Thuruar to heal the girl!
chris107: Draging her and himself from the foul pools of acid
Smon: Hakeem gets back up the tunnel into his own room, Thuruar bursts in a moment later and hurriedly applies healing magic to Laurana.
Smon: Her eyes flicker open and she smiles contentedly. "I gave it a good sticking... "
chris107: "Good lass."
chris107: He tries not not to fall over in a heap
Smon: Gnomish guards follow Thuruar into the chamber - glaives lowered, they cautiously enter the worm tunnel, and soon cry: "It's dead!"
chris107: His broad smile tested severly
Smon: Thuruar uses a group healing spell, Hakeem feels a little better (say 20 hp back).
chris107: 21/185
chris107: Phew!
Smon: Shieldbiter also enters, grinning and covered in worm ichor.
chris107: Gosh! That was close!
chris107: The worm probably has great treasure in it's gullet
Smon: GM: A little later, after having had time to clean up & short rest, you are summoned back to the royal chamber.
chris107: Haakeem goes along happily
chris107: making light of his dreadful wounds
Smon: The gnomes have dug out coins from the creature's gullet, now spilled on the hall floor - 900 Copper 11,000 Silver 2,600 Gold 90 Platinum
chris107: yay
Smon: The Gnome King beams happily: "My thanks! You have slain the beast!"
chris107: (School fees to pay after all :D)
chris107: "We are allies my king. Your enemies are my enemies."
chris107: "And let them quake with fear!"
Smon: Naran the Druid: "We have gifts, as thanks..." He produces two pairs of fine gnomic leather boots, sized human but one small and feminine, the other large, Hakeem sized.
chris107: KEWL!
Smon: Thuruar: "Boots of Striding and Springing..." Naran offers one pair to Hakeem, the other to Laurana.
chris107: NICE!
Smon: While you wear these boots, your walking speed becomes 30 feet, unless your walking speed is higher, and your speed isn’t reduced if you are encumbered or wearing heavy armor. In addition, you can jump three times the normal distance, though you can’t jump farther than your remaining movement would allow.
chris107: (Though not sure what they do in 5e?)
chris107: cool
chris107: 40' move but the jump may help
Smon: Can jump 10'+ into air and nearly 60' horizontal.
chris107: pretty darn good
Smon: There is much congratulations, Laurana thanks the gnomes.
Smon: Naran: "Though it does puzzle me that the Worm should skirt the outer tunnels and make straight for the guest chambers..."
Smon: Thuruar: "What are you saying?"
chris107: "Aye, indeed. Perhaps priest Thurur could augury this odd behavior?"
Smon: Naran scratches his beard. "Could it be that the Nerathi detected your presence? Are able to track you, somehow?"
Smon: Thuruar: "I shall commune with Athena..."
Smon: GM: OK will stop there. Hakeem gets 7500 XP!
Smon: (6500 worm, 1000 roleplay)
chris107: YAY!
chris107: Thanks Simon!
Smon: Should be good to start by 7.30 next week - no Bill again though.
chris107: I need to think where the +2 will go.
