6:30pm  2015-3-20 chris107 Has entered the room
chris107: Evening Simon
Smon: Hi Chris
chris107: Let's see if I can survive 2 sessions!
Smon: Good luck!
chris107: Probably need it. I really like the quick and brutal combat.
Smon: Guess I'll start once I have 2 players.
chris107: Is Graham lurking in the lounge?
Smon: Most PC classes would not have survived that duel - Fighter maybe.
Smon: nope
Smon: Online Users chris107, Smon, morikahn, prespos, saunatonttu, vondan
chris107: Hakeem has to remain fearless otherwise the whole character concept falls apart.
chris107: Mmmm not like graham to be tardy.
Smon: Hakeem - it's cool  but I recommend Raging early & often!
Smon: & then demand a nice long rest when Raged-out.
chris107: Yeah, I figured that after the Orc hit me.
Smon: Call it "Rage Quit"
chris107: I was expecting the usual 1d8 HD Orc
Smon: Wait till you meet the goblins...
chris107: And came within one number of loosing my first 5e character
chris107: if the Orc had rolled a 10 rather than a 9 to hit...
Smon: Just about everything is on steroids except hyenas, who got horribly & implausibly nerfed to 1d8 - I think they confused hyenas with jackals - - I think I'll use the 5e wolf stats for hyenas.
chris107: Wolves
chris107: Not sure how hakeem should play it with wolves.
chris107: As brothers or ... something else?
Smon: 5e wolves have loads of hp & massive damage while hyenas have 1d8 & little-dog bites :/
Smon: Graham was late for his own funeral in Runelords so I'm not surprised he's not here.
Smon: Brothers to start with, if they have other ideas then whack 'em
chris107:
chris107: I'm looking forward to trying the 5 e
chris107: Where my new house is in Bath there's a stack of stuff going on (and Bristol)
Smon: Looking over the npc stats, looks like by default competent npcs get 2 hit dice, eg typical orcs are 2d8, even novice priest gets 2d8 with his 1st level spellcasting.
chris107: That could mean a very short life for a hot headed barbarian
Smon: Commoners get 1d8, but nobles get 2d8.
chris107: They will all fall beneath the sword.
Smon: Well you average 12 dmg while raging. If you can get to 3rd you can go Berserk for extra attacks.
chris107: Any ideas on what I should aim for to become a sword knight? Or shall I just make it up as i go along?
Smon: You have to be accepted as a Sword Knight by your peers. We had a PC made a Sword Knight in my 4e Wilderlands game prior to his glorious death against a thousand ghouls led by a 15th level Necromancer.
chris107: Ah. Maybe some time then?
Smon: That was on the other side of the mountains from you.
Smon: Generally, great acts of heroism, killing dragons & such is good.
chris107: Nice to see Athers back playing.
Smon: yup
chris107: I remember his dwarf from our old wilder lands game.
Smon: Usually around 5th-6th level you might be making enough of a name for yourself to be considered for knighting.
6:49pm  2015-3-20 Amalric Has entered the room
Smon: Hi G
Amalric: evening!
chris107: That's cool. It should be a long term goal.
chris107: Hey Graham!
Amalric: hey chris!
Amalric: how are we all doing?
Smon: Chris's PC Hakeem have entered the catacombs of the Shrine of St Ulther.
chris107: We are on the scent of some Goblin tomb raiders. Lances' ex Jana turned up
Smon: Jana is back in her home village after her year & a day of exile and some interdimensional transportation.
Amalric: yes i read the updated thread
Smon: She's actually in charge right now while her brother's away.
Smon: cool
chris107: We are currently exploring an East bound passageway
Amalric: she never learns, does she?
chris107: Which reeks of goblins
Smon: Graham, I was thinking your PC might have 'liberated' the black pearl necklace of Lady Aeschela of Bratanis, and looking for a place to stash it safely comes across the ruined shrine on the cliffs overlooking the ocean...
Amalric: sounds like Rey!
Smon: Amidst the ruins he finds a spiral staircase leading down into darkness, and sneaks downwards...
Smon: /roll 1d20+7
Smon rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 17, (+7) = 24
Smon: Very effectively B)
Amalric: did Rey meet Lady A in person?
Smon: (I'm thinking Rey would likely have met and flirted with the Lady, getting close enough to lift the necklace)
Amalric: is he a hunted man, or has he pulled it off?
Smon: He's currently 'out for a stroll', unsure if his theft was detected, hence hiding necklace
Smon: You're about 12 miles from Bratanis through the hills, having left at first light.
Amalric: doing the noble thing of walking along the cliffs, taking in the air and the sights...
chris107: ....
Amalric: more of a hike than a stroll, but w/e
Smon: @Hakeem - approaching the T-junction, you detect daylight from the left.
Amalric: okay, down the stairs and into the company of...?
Smon: /roll 1d20+1
Smon rolls 1d20+1 and gets: 5, (+1) = 6
chris107: Hakeem moves forward on wolf like paws to sniff and investigate.
Smon: /roll 1d20+1
Smon rolls 1d20+1 and gets: 10, (+1) = 11
Smon: As Rey sneaks down the stairs, he sees they open out through a 10' landing into a chamber of worked stone - suddenly he hears guttural, high pitched muttering from the chamber and detects a faint glimmer of lamplight.
Smon: Hakeem moves left down the passage, Bjornalf behind him with the torch and Tor guarding the rear. After 10' the tunnel ends in an archway leading into a square chamber almost 30' across, the light coming from an archway in the nw corner
Amalric: he hangs back in the shadows
Smon: Hakeem reaches the arch in the n-e corner of the large chamber. The stench is stronger here.
chris107: nw or ne?
Smon: As well as the daylit exit in the nw corner there is a third exit in the w end of the s wall.
Smon: Hakeem is at n-e corner, a wall running along the north side of the chamber just to his right.
Smon: The floor is uneven, with puddles of what might be water.
chris107: Ny map is rubbish then
Amalric: is the lamplight Rey sees moving, or fixed?
Smon: Rey at the bottom of his stairwell sneaks to the nw corner of the same chamber. He can see a large barbaric figure silhouetted in lantern light standing just back from the ne exit, greatsword ready.
chris107: Started new map for this area
Smon: Waiting to ambush the barbarian when he enters the chamber, hidden by the wall just to his left, are two evil-looking yellow-skinned goblins, about 4' tall.
chris107: A geat white toothy smile on his face as he recognises another ougue
Smon: They seem unaware of Rey.
Smon: Hakeem hasn't spotted Rey, who has no light.
chris107: He hates been ambushed!
chris107: And gets very cross. Attacking both in a rage!
Smon: What's Rey doing?
Amalric: can Rey sneak attack?
Amalric: if so he will
Smon: yup
Amalric: any sneak rolls, or just d20?
Smon: You have Advantage as they don't know you're there - throw dagger, roll twice & take best result.
Amalric rolls 2d20 and gets: 14, 3, = 17
Smon: 14+5=19, hit
Amalric: sure the 14 hits
Smon: dam is 1d4+3+1d6
Smon: roll
Smon: or I can...
Smon: /roll 1d4+3+1d6
Amalric rolls 1d4+3 and gets: 1, (+3) = 4
Smon rolls 1d4+3 and gets: 4, (+3) = 7
Smon: 4 so far
Amalric: damn, your roll was way better!
Smon:
chris107: Hehe! take Simons roll
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
Smon: 8 dmg, lucky it had 7 hp... Rey's dagger takes a goblin in the chest, it jerks and drops like a stone.
chris107: Darn I shouldn't have raged
Smon: The second goblin looks around wildly. Hakeem hears the noise from just to his left, past the archway.
Smon: If you hadn't raged you'd be dead.
chris107: Has he seen the gobbo's
Smon: Does Hakeem enter the chamber?
chris107: ?
chris107: Oh yeah. He's on the hunt for more skulls
Smon: Hakeem bursts into the chamber as the surviving goblin looks around for who killed its friend. It shrieks in mingled anger and terror.
Smon: init - suggest you both roll, d20+3 Rey, d20+2 Hakeem
chris107: Hakeem hacks it down
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 8, (+2) = 10
Smon: /roll 1d20+2
Smon rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 1, (+2) = 3
Smon: ok Hakeem can strike!
Smon: d20+5 to hit
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 4, (+5) = 9
chris107:
Amalric rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 18, (+3) = 21
Smon: The goblin ducks Hakeem's massive blade.
Smon: Rey has time to throw a dagger, or move in with Rapier.
Amalric: dagger
Amalric: does he get the +1d6 bonus this time too?
Smon: ok, can sneak attack again as it's distracted by Hakeem
Smon: yup, per RAW
Amalric: RAW?
Amalric rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 18, (+5) = 23
Smon: Rules As Written - can SA targets adjacent to your allies
Amalric: ah, sneak attack bonus
Smon: Dagger thunks into goblin back...
Amalric: and I don't know 5E at all, so will rely on you for most everything
Amalric rolls 1d4+3 and gets: 2, (+3) = 5
Amalric rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
chris107: Nor do I Graham
Smon: needed 2+ on that d6
chris107: Just keep rolling high!
Amalric: figures
chris107: Hakeem will slice again
Amalric: it's okay, missile attack, it will attack the big guy
Smon: The wounded goblin shrieks, but still stands. It aims a morningstar blow at Hakeem's knee.
Smon: /roll 1d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 2, (+4) = 6
chris107: he leaps aside like a panther!
Smon: misses, then (using goblin Nimble Escape power!) flees to the SW exit, shrieking loudly.
chris107: And raises his great blade to smash the little devil to death!
Smon: It flees out of the chamber as Bjornalf & Tor burst in behind Hakeem.
chris107: Hakeem gives chase. 30'/round
Smon: (normally you'd get a free attack on enemy fleeing, but not vs goblins)
chris107: (Cool)
Amalric: the cads!
Amalric: (nimble escape? wow)
Smon: Rey sees more men burst in behind the loincloth-clad barbarian, who chases the goblin out of the room.
Smon: What's Rey doing?
Amalric: wondering if they're with the barbarian
Smon: Hakeem sprints after the goblin through the sw exit. It's running down a tunnel that goes 10' s then turns w.
Smon: Hakeem catches it as it reaches the turn, and can strike...
Smon: (attack)
Amalric: Rey retrieves his dagger from the fallen goblin, wondering how he's going to get his other dagger back
chris107: HE CONTINhe continues to persue
Amalric: Rey follows
Smon: Tor, a dwarf, and Bjornalf, a handsome Norseman, regard Rey as he emerges from the shadows and plucks his dagger from the dead goblin.
Smon: Hakeem can attack
Smon: Or you want to just chase it?
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 14, (+5) = 19
Smon: *splat*
chris107 rolls 2d6+3 and gets: 4, 1, (+3) = 8
Smon: Hakeem spits the runt on the end of his mighty blade.
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
chris107: Any sound/sight of any of the wretched things chums ahead?
Smon: Hakeem stands over the corpse - just as he feared, he hears the chittering of more goblins in the darkness ahead.
Smon: They must have heard the battle.
chris107: Excellent!
Smon: Tor: "They're coming!"
chris107: Now he prepares to RAGE HARD!
Smon: He hefts his axe.
chris107: (2/day yes?)
Smon: It sounds as if the enemy approach in numbers, but perhaps here in the narrow tunnel one man can make a stand...
Amalric: Rey goes to see what all the fuss is about, but hangs back
chris107: And I know just the man
chris107: I man + big sword + bad attitude
Smon: Hakeem is currently in a L shape bend, tunnel goes w and n, n back into the big chamber.
chris107:
Smon: Tor comes up behind him so that the light casts his long shadow down the tunnel, at the approaching horde of foul ab-humans...
chris107: He will find a place wide enough to use his blade and narrow enough to face one gob at a time if he can
Smon: Yup, the junction is good for that.
chris107: "Bondor!"
chris107: HACK, SLASH, MAIN
chris107: MAIM
chris107: FUME!
Smon: Hakeem counts four red-eyed, big-nosed goblins wielding scimitars and morningstars, behind them the tall gangly form of an orange-skinned hob-goblin, more beast than man...
Smon: As they approach, Hakeem's longer blade gives him first strike...
Smon: roll to hit
chris107: "Haha! Come meet your doom!"
chris107: He attacks with RAGE!
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 16, (+5) = 21
Smon: hit
chris107 rolls 2d6+5 and gets: 4, 5, (+5) = 14
Smon: Hakeem's sword cuts clean through the lead goblin - and the one behind.
chris107:
Smon: The third goblin launches a blow at his throat...
chris107: Splat!
chris107: High fantasy indeed!
Smon: /roll 1d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 7, (+4) = 11
Smon: Hakeem parries
Smon: your go
Amalric: any room for a dagger throw behind all these burly fellows?
chris107: He spirals like a dancer away from the clumsy blow
chris107 rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 13, (+3) = 16
chris107: oops +5
chris107 rolls 2d6+5 and gets: 5, 3, (+5) = 13
Smon: (Rey - not unless Hakeem falls back)
Amalric: (no probs)
Smon: Hakeem cuts down the third goblin.
Smon: The last goblin is shoved forward by the hobgoblin behind
Smon: /roll 1d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 2, (+4) = 6
Smon: miss again
chris107: "Hahahahahah!"
Smon: H to attack
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 7, (+5) = 12
Smon: miss
chris107:
Smon: goblin:
Smon: /roll 1d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 11, (+4) = 15
Smon: miss
Smon: hit
Smon: sorry
chris107: AC 15
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 4, (+5) = 9
chris107: Grrrr!
Smon: /roll 1d6+2
Smon rolls 1d6+2 and gets: 6, (+2) = 8
Smon: Hakeem takes 4 dmg, a red cut
chris107: 11/15HP
chris107: That makes him very cross!
Smon: The enemy force him back, giving the hobgoblin space to get into position, but now Rey can attack too
Smon: Hakeem & Rey both attack, then enemy
chris107: GYeah!
chris107: At the hobgob
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 11, (+5) = 16
Smon: hit!
chris107 rolls 2d6+5 and gets: 6, 3, (+5) = 14
Smon: *Crunch* he cuts the brute down
Smon: Rey throwing dagger?
chris107:
Amalric: yes
Amalric rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 9, (+5) = 14
Smon: /roll 1d20+7
Smon rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 17, (+7) = 24
Smon: The goblin hasn't seen Rey so he has advantage, can roll again.
Smon: (need 15)
Amalric rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 14, (+5) = 19
Smon: hit
Amalric rolls 1d4+3 and gets: 4, (+3) = 7
chris107: ;0
chris107:
Smon: The dagger takes the last goblin in the flank, it sighs and falls to the ground, blade clattering.
Smon: Hakeem is feeling quite tired now.
chris107: Hakeem looks around for more foes
chris107: but seeing only the charming rogue he beams a broad smile.
chris107: "Thank you stranger."
Smon: Quiet falls.
chris107: He wipes his sword clean.
Amalric: "You are welcome, sir. Goblins are awful creatures, so...undignified."
Amalric: "Who are you people? You rather BIG people?"
chris107: "Best check these fellows for Ale money?" He suggests
Smon: Tor nods. "I'll get the one back there..."
chris107: "I am Wolf." He holds out a meaty paw.
Smon: Searching the seven corpses, you find numerous silver-gold coins - electrum!
Smon: /roll 14d6
Smon rolls 14d6 and gets: 3, 6, 5, 6, 2, 5, 2, 4, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, = 43
chris107: Yeah! Party!
Smon: 43 ep in all.
Smon: Tor: "A king's ransom!"
Amalric: "Wolf? How...original."
Amalric: Rey retrieves all his daggers
chris107: "You have something funny to say stranger?"
Amalric: "Sir Reynard Mercelin, at your service. Seemed dashed bad form to let those first goblins have a free shot at you, what? Dashed bad form. So I intervened."
chris107: Hakeem looks somewhat placated.
Amalric: "Quite a bashing you gave those chappies, what?"
chris107: "We have many more of these creatures to slay but I suggest we retire topside and draw up plans?"
Amalric: "Of course! Let me lead the way, I just came down those stairs after all..."
Smon: Bjornalf nods. "Aye."
chris107: "We have a fellow, twiglet I think he's called who can heal these tiny scratches."
chris107: Hakeem is happy to let this rogue show us the way out.
Smon: GM: You head up the spiral staircase, out into the clean daylight. The noonday sun beats down on the crumbling ruins of the Saint's ancient shrine. To the south a couple miles off is the glimmering blue ocean, and the tall spire of Oriax's lighthouse tower.
Amalric: "Twiglet? I knew a girl with that name, once. Pretty thing, stick-thin though..."
chris107: "Ah, give me a fine warrior woman with CURVES every time!"
Smon: You are atop the cliffs that drop away to south east and west, the Ghinarian Hills rise to the north. 4 miles off to the NW is a ridgeline that gave Rey quite a workout this morning.
chris107: Does our unwilling priestliness wait for us?
chris107: Bloody MAC! keeps changing what I type!
Smon: Looking over the clifftop you see the youth Pollyakkus waiting at the base of the cliff. A narrow trail winds down the cliffside.
Smon: He spots you, waves, and starts up the trail towards you.
chris107: "Hey Pollyakkus! "
Smon: Rey, you see the gangly acned youth in white initiates' robes, a young Mitra priest it looks like.
chris107: "Thats twiglet." Says Hakeem to the new comer.
Smon: Pollyakkus reaches the top, looks relieved to see you alive.
chris107: "Can you heal these scratches?"
Smon: He nods nervously to Rey, then turns to Hakeem. "I can heal it, yes."
Smon: He gingerly moves forward, hand open.
chris107: He shows twiglet the huge goblin inflicted wound
Amalric: "Well met, young sir," offers Rey
chris107: "You have my thanks Pollyakkus. Know you have the friendship of Hakeem Wolf Brother."
Smon: Pollyakkus touches the wound, closing his eyes in prayer.
Smon: /roll d8+2
Smon rolls 1d8+2 and gets: 6, (+2) = 8
Smon: The wound closes, Hakeem full hp.
chris107: 15/15HP
chris107: (Hey I may survive two whole sessions at this rate!)
Smon: Pollyakkus turns to Rey. "Well met sir, I am Pollyakkus, priest of Selatine. I serve the Vexes."
Amalric: Pollyakus? Hakeem? Who are these double-named people, ponders Rey
chris107: 2 mins guys brb
Smon: Hakeem is feeling a strange strength, such as he has never known...
Amalric: "And I am Sir Reynard Mercellin. I serve...philanthropy."
Smon: HAKEEM LEVEL UP
Smon: (Hakeem 350 XP, Rey 200 XP)
Amalric: what do we level up at?
chris107: back
Smon: Pollyakkus nods. "I know your name, sir - the diplomatic envoy of Lord Vilius of Theber? I heard you were on a mission to persuade Lady Aeschela to join in Alliance..." He seems to know a lot.
chris107: Level up?!
Smon: (level at 300, 900, 2700)
Smon: Pollyakkus turns to Hakeem, clealy preparing to expound.
chris107: Hakeem hasn't got the foggiest. He just want to kill stuff.
Amalric: "Ah yes, you appear very well informed, I must say."
Smon: Polly: "Lord Vilius of Theber seeks to create a united front against Warlord Yusan. My liege Lord Hytirus Vex concurs, but Lady Aeschela of Bratanis fears to openly oppose the tyrant. My liege suggested that Vilius send his most silver-tongued servant, the renowned Lord Reynard of Antil as I recall..."
chris107: Hakeem goes for a snooze
Amalric: "Lord Vex is a wise man indeed, to have such a sharp feelow as yourself in his retinue."
Smon: (Rey vaguely recalls something about getting Aeschela to conjoin in alliance... well it sort of went that way...)
Amalric: "I have....some work to do with the Lady, as yet. Though it may have to wait..."
Amalric: (conjoin, yes. alliance? whatever...)
chris107:
Smon: Pollyakkus blushes and grins happily at the praise from 'Lord' Reynard Mercellin.
Amalric: (I'll try and remember all that, may have to record it somewhere!)
8:05pm  2015-3-20 vondan Has entered the room
Smon: hi V
chris107: Hi Dan
vondan: hey kids getting ready to lay
Smon: Hakeem stretches out on a warm slab of fallen red sandstone.
vondan: play
Amalric: LOL, watch what you do with your kids, Dan
Smon: Hakeem level-up: +10 hp, can now make Reckless Attacks.
chris107: Yeah!
Amalric: great, Rey will make sure to stand well back
chris107: What do reckless attacks do?
Smon: I'll update his sheet.
vondan: it was the talk of the hat all week will he wont he Smon have two games on friday
Amalric: attack, recklessly?
Smon: You get Advantage, but then enemy have Advantage against you.
vondan: the hat and the chat
Smon: Good for a finishing blow.
chris107: Okay
chris107: 25HP!
vondan: are you in game now with only two players
chris107: Rey and Hakeem are greater than their constant parts Dan
chris107: Constituant \
vondan: my wear rat unrban ranger was named Hazeem
chris107: bloody MAC!
vondan: so he used his arab hotel bathrobe looking deser cloack to hide his form
Smon: Having levelled up, Hakeem now has 25 hp and 1 healing die for levelling (2 at max)
chris107: (So can heal 2/day?)
Smon: (You can spend as many as necessary after a short rest, assuming you tend wounds etc)
chris107: (Cool  )
Smon: 2 x 1d12+3. You only get back 1 per daty though.
Smon: Currently on 1 out of 2. If you spent the 2nd one (0/2) would go to 1/2 tomorrow.
chris107: Rage = 50HP!
Smon: yup
chris107: Okay, I'm sure I will pick it up.
Amalric: lets hope so, because i have no idea
chris107: "So rogue.... Shall we go slay more Goblins?"
Smon: I see you also get Danger Sense: Level 2 Danger Sense - advantage on DEX saves vs all visible effects.
chris107: Yeah!
chris107: I'll go buy the 5e PHB sometime next week when I'm in town.
Smon: (I'm still learning myself, the healing is a bit odd but I'm getting used to it)
Amalric: "Shall we? Lets, I say!"
vondan: OMG (Gygax) your playing 5e in this chat
chris107: Hakeem is pleased at his new chums enthusiasm.
Amalric: desperate times, Dan
chris107: "Would you like to scout?"
chris107: 2d6+3 damage Dan
chris107: And the Caverns of Thracia awaiting us!
chris107: The combat is fast, brutal and fun.
Smon: OOC I PM'd Steve to get permission, he said it was fine but warned me there might be hysterics.
Amalric: "I...ah..." *cough* "...of course."
chris107: Let 'em have their histrionics. I been playing since '76. If I want to try something new. I think I'm entitled to?
Smon: Pollyakkus: "I'm going down to the foot of the cliff - don't want to be stuck out here if monsters come outside..." He starts back down the path.
chris107: "Keep safe."
Smon: Polly: "You too, sir."
chris107: "Come little rogue. Lets go do war upon these Goblins."
Smon: GM: Hakeem and Rey head back down the spiral stairs, Bjornalf & Tor following with the lantern.
Smon: Are you following the tunnel the goblin horde came from?
Amalric: "Dirty job, but someone has to do it, one supposes..."
chris107: Hakeem grins an unpleasant grin and polishes his great blade.
Amalric: yes?
Amalric: will searching for traps slow us?
chris107: Sounds good to me Simon.
Smon: I'll note you are looking out for traps.
Smon: You reach the point of slaughter, with the heaped corpses of the slain.
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Smon: /roll 1d4
Smon rolls 1d4 and gets: 2,
Smon: /roll 1d4
Smon rolls 1d4 and gets: 2,
Smon: 2 more goblins are inspecting the bodies. They look up at your approach, and gulp.
Smon: init
Smon: /roll 1d20+2
Smon rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 7, (+2) = 9
chris107:
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 3, (+2) = 5
Smon: rey roll d20+3
Amalric: is it individual or...nm
Amalric rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 10, (+3) = 13
Smon: Rey is faster than them.
Amalric: do i get one dagger throw or two?
Amalric: if just one i'll use the rapier
Smon: (in big groups I'll do group init, with 2 PCs might as well do single)
Amalric: so...
Smon: Checking pg 195 it says you can throw a dagger from *both* hands (if you start the round holding them)
Smon: So assuming Rey is carrying his daggers, can throw both.
Smon: no surprise so no CA
Smon: So can throw 2, 1st hit only gets the +1d6 sneak att
Amalric rolls 2d20 and gets: 17, 8, = 25
Smon: 1 hit
Amalric: ah well, if you're gonna get the bonus might as well hit with the 1st!
Amalric rolls 1d4+3 and gets: 4, (+3) = 7
Amalric rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
chris107:
Smon: The goblin drops.
Smon: The second goblin slashes low at Hakeem as he comes in...
chris107: Hakeem races towards the survivor
Smon: /roll 1d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 7, (+4) = 11
Smon: misses
chris107: AC15
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 2, (+5) = 7
chris107: Grrr!
Smon: It turns and runs, Hakeem chasing after it, sword swinging wildly.
Smon: Is Rey pursuing too?
chris107: Hakeem chases the bugger down
Smon: The corridor runs w then turns n, the lantern swinging wildly behind Hakeem as he bursts into a large, foul smelling chamber bedecked with goblin nests and a heap of stones formed into a rough 'table'.
Amalric: Rey does
Smon: As Hakeem bursts in the wilely goblin strikes from the side at Hakeem.
Smon: /roll 1d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 2, (+4) = 6
Smon: misses. You can both attack.
chris107: (Does Hakeem regain his ability to rage after levelling ?)
Smon: no
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 1, (+5) = 6
chris107:
Smon: need an overnight rest
Amalric rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 20, (+5) = 25
vondan: oh so Hakeem is a desert barbarian
Smon: Amalric gets it in the eye - critical hit
chris107: Okay
Amalric: damage for that?
Smon: Guessing Rey drew rapier, so 2d6+3+1d6?
Amalric: he did
Smon: actually 4d6 +3 I think
Amalric rolls 3d6+3 and gets: 2, 2, 1, (+3) = 8
chris107: (Dan - Hakeem is an Atlantan Barbarian from the jg Wilderlands setting)
Amalric rolls 1d6 and gets: 6,
chris107: Nice one Graham!
Smon: It's dead, but Rey actually gets a 2nd attack too
Amalric: through the eye into the brain, instant kill
Amalric: against what?
Smon: (I *think* crits double the sneak attack dmg)
Smon: (a dead goblin)
chris107:
Amalric: (cool!)
chris107: What a team!
Amalric: its like Lance and Dick have returned
Smon: There is a brass-bound door on the far (west) wall of this chamber.
chris107: 2 mins guys just got to go take a picture of the dining room.
Amalric: Rey listens at it
Amalric: (picture of the dining room??)
Smon: /roll 1d20+1
Smon rolls 1d20+1 and gets: 4, (+1) = 5
Smon: Rey can't hear anything.
Amalric: traps?
vondan: oh ok I had a Half Rangaloon swamp ranger from the Monwakler morrs
Smon: Half Roglaroon swamp ranger from the Moonraker Moors I'm guessing
Smon: Rey searches the door.
Amalric: could be!
vondan: yes and his mother left him 5 rangaloon Macaroons
chris107: back
Smon: /roll 1d20+3
Smon rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 2, (+3) = 5
Smon: No sign of traps.
Smon: (the thief skill rules are taking a bit of getting used to. It seems to basically be 'add Proficiency bonus to whatever attribute bonus you think is appropriate")
Smon: Just did an INT check there.
Amalric: tries the handle
chris107: Low is bad right?
Smon: The door has a lock, it's locked.
Smon: yup
Smon: INT check fail - you didn't realise door was locked until you tried it. If it had been trapped you would have been zapped.
chris107: ZAPP!
Smon: You can try to pick lock, or break door down?
chris107: You first Graham?
chris107: I can try kick it in if all else fails.
Amalric: pick
Amalric rolls 1d20 and gets: 5,
Amalric: oh man
Smon: +5 is 10, exactly succeed.
chris107: Kick?
chris107:
Smon: The simple lock gives way at your caress.
Amalric: heh, just
Smon: Easing the door open, you see a dark passage beyond, and hear guttural snoring.
chris107: Chastity belt practice Graham?
Amalric: they usually do these...oh wait, confusing locks with women
Amalric: Rey has had much practice
Amalric: he's not Lance 2.0, because he pretends to have SOME class
chris107: deeper pitch than the orc/hobgob?
Smon: A passage runs north 15' and opens into a bedchamber, there is a central table with a strongbox beneath it, and to the left a bed, an enormously fat hobgoblin lies on it, fast asleep and snoring.
chris107: Hakeem is tempted to just rush in and gob whatever is inside.
chris107: Hakeem charges and skates at the sleeping form
chris107: slashes
Smon: There seem to be no other exits from the bedroom.
chris107: bloody MAC WON'T LET ME TYPE WHAT I WANT!
Amalric: Rey will slit its throat if possible
Smon: Hakeem charges in, sword raised.
Smon: /roll 1d20x2
Smon Rolls 1d20x2 and gets:
8 = 8
18 = 18

Smon: Its eyes blink open as Hakeem raises his great blade and thrusts down... attack with Advantage.
chris107: advantage =?
Smon: Rey following Hakeem can also attack.
Smon: roll twice, take best result
Amalric rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 10, (+5) = 15
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 4, (+5) = 9
Smon: Hakeem first
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 14, (+5) = 19
Amalric: oops
chris107: 19 been best?
Smon: AC 16 - it wears heavy chain armour - 19 hits
chris107: Phew!
chris107 rolls 2d6+3 and gets: 6, 6, (+3) = 15
chris107:
Smon: Rey can get 3 more rolls by my count BTW (2 atts, each w advtg)
Smon: However this proves unnecessary, as Hakeem cleaves the brute's head from its shoulders in one mighty blow.
chris107: Yeah!
chris107: Go Hakeem
Amalric: nice chris!
Smon: (the 5e fighting is very Conan the Barbarian esp with a Barbarian PC)
chris107: Strong box awaits my friend.
chris107: I love it
Smon: can you get the money in the remaining 6 minutes of this session?
chris107: Go for it graham!
Amalric: locked box?
Smon: Under the table.
Amalric: detect traps
Amalric rolls 1d20+1 and gets: 17, (+1) = 18
chris107: Nice!
Smon: No traps - but you do spot the key cunningly nailed to the underside of the table.
Amalric: haha! nice
chris107: Hakeem searches the fat Hobgob while his chum does th box. Looks for weapons and takes his fancy iron shirt too.
Smon: Extracting the key?
Amalric: yes
Smon: The fat hobgoblin had a well made shield to the side of the bed, and was cradling a broadsword.
chris107: Take all to inspect/share later
Smon: (Chain mail would give Hakeem AC 16 but disadvantage on Stealth checks)
Smon: ok
Smon: Trying the lock?
Amalric: can take the mail and sell it
chris107: Hakeem does not wear armour! he's a proper loin-cloth barbarian
Smon:
Amalric: with they key, yes
Smon: The lock clicks open. The chest lid opens with a creak, revealing piles and piles of gleaming electrum pieces - there must be a thousand coins in there!
chris107: Yeah!
Amalric:
Amalric: lets take the box. anything underneath it?
Smon: Now you can buy a small plot of land and retire...
Smon: Just stone flagstones.
chris107: Yes let's take the box
Amalric: sounds like a plan! Rey might return that necklace...
chris107: Hakeem will booze and whore that away in a week!
Smon: The loaded box is pretty heavy, around 25 lb weight, Hakeem can pick it up ok.
vondan: he can buy hats and soup like conan
chris107: He can Dan
Smon: I'm using the ale & whores rule - spend 250gp, get 250xp.:)
chris107: And he will Simon
chris107: Great start! Hakeem is no caspian Deverin but he's getting there!
Amalric: sounds like a better plan than retirement...
Smon: But I expect a colourful account of how you waste your money.
chris107: It sure does!
chris107: Hakeem fancies a bash at the Paladin bird.
chris107: Hence making him CG.
Smon: GM: OK, let's end there as the victorious heroes depart the halls of the hobgoblin 'king' with their newfound wealth...
Amalric: nice
Smon: Pretty sure Rey is 2nd level too now.
chris107: Great place to end
Smon: have to work it out.
Amalric: well he was on 200 already...before the second incursion
Amalric: so all that loot
Amalric: plus kills
chris107: Next session a week from now? AM + PM?
Amalric: sure there was a +5 rapier under all those coins too
Smon: Yes, will do that. PM prob need to start later, 7pm.
Smon: 9am is fine for 1st game.
Amalric: how did the earl session go? i see the report is up
Amalric: *early
chris107: I'm up in town next Thursday and may stay the weekend but will take my lp top.

_________________________

Smon: @ath - you can get 10 spikes from the smith for 1gp and a small hammer for 1gp, yup.
chris107: Pah! Roasted boar! Washed down with good brown beer!
atherton: ok I'll go for a hammer big enough to be slung
Smon: A throwable hammer is 2gp, 1d4 dmg, rng 20'/60'.
atherton: I'll take that
chris107: Who 'you playing Athers?
Kjato Ragfoot: Perhaps it was a very old boar, that would taste like iron rations.
atherton: Tor
atherton: a dwarf from Thunderhold
chris107: Hi Kjato
Smon: I'll start you off in the Redeye Inn. Bjornalf Brighteyes is still nursing his bruises, having been washed ashore a few days ago and picked up from below the cliffs by a fishing coracle.
chris107: Thanks Dave.
Smon: Hakeem has just come down from the Ghinarian Hills, having presented a slaughtered wild goat to the gate-guard, a traditional gift for safe passage.
chris107:
Smon: And Tor arrived on the Buxom Wench this afternoon and has spent the rest of the day shopping in town for supplies.
Smon: The sun is setting in the west, a red light filtering through the inn's open windows as she begins to fill up mostly with farmers and fishermen finished with the day's labours.
chris107: (I kind of hope that Hakeem never has to shop. I'd like him to get by on killed stuff and stuff he takes from killed stuff)
atherton: well having espied a couple of honest (simple and easily duped) fellow adventurers, I'll engage them in conversation
chris107: "A bearded child!"
Kjato Ragfoot: I am not bruised! That are inward tatoos!
chris107: "Civiliszation is indeed full of many wonders!"
atherton: "Greetings wildman, where do you come from, maybe you would like an ale?"
Smon: A shapely dark haired girl in a blue dress is serving ouzo at the bar, where sits Hakeem & Bjornalf, Tor approaches the Skandik and the Altanian.
chris107: "A fine idea. You may call me wolf bearded child. Does your mother know you are out at the tavern?"
atherton: I'll order an ouzo for the wildman
atherton: and maybe one for the Skandik as well
Smon: "2 coppers, sir."
atherton: I tip the girl
chris107: Hakeem looks at the tiny thimble full. Wondering when the drink's arriving.
atherton: "dost thou know of the fabled city of Thracia Wolf?, I am Tor, dwarven warror of Stronghold in the remote north"
atherton: "beer girl!, if you have any" I call out to the serving girl
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes! And something to drink as well!
chris107: Hakeem looks stunned. He has heard tell of the wee folk of the hills but never imagined them to be true.
atherton: "and you worthy Skandik, what brings you to these parts?"
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah. Love. Sailing. Drowning. And empty pockets.
Smon: At a large side table, a beautiful blonde serving-slave clad only in a silk loincloth is serving tankards of what looks like ale to a half dozen men in grey robes - pilgrims by the look of them. They have a distinctly battered look about them, the leader is a large jowly fellow with a fresh bruise on his bald pate.
chris107: Hakeem nods sadly at the mention of empty pockets.
chris107: "Hey fatty! Who bruised your ugly head?"
chris107: Asks Hakeem tactlessly
atherton: "empty pockets, well ... "
Smon: The dark haired girl nods to Hakeem, pouring him a large mug of dark ale. "Four coppers sir."
chris107: Hakeem points at the Dwarf
atherton: "I may be able to remedy that. I seek the legendary city of Thracia"
atherton: I pay the coppers
Kjato Ragfoot: What is so legendary about that city?
atherton: "I'm seeking partners to recover its lost treasures"
chris107: (Has Hakeem heard about legendary Thracia?)
Kjato Ragfoot: I only know about sunken Thule, but that is said to be far to the north, sunk beneath the ice.
atherton: "only ruins there now, but they say once it was a bustling city"
Smon: The fat man looks over at Hakeem, wincing. "Goblins! They have infested the Shrine of St Ulther! We were driven from there with cudgels! Ow!"
atherton: "the beastmen fight the death warriors now and all factions now look away from the city"
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf laughs heartily. "Why didn't you simply slay the goblins? Did you gods abandon you for being to weak being worth their attention?"
Smon: Fat man: "And the priestess says the Lord of Selatine is away on business! There is none here to avenge us! A sorry day!"
chris107: "Perhaps we can slay these Goblins on our way to sack Tor's city?"
chris107: "If the price is right of course." (and they call Barbarians dumb)
Kjato Ragfoot: Hmm. Yeah. And there might be treasure in the church we might steal.
chris107:
Smon: The pilgrim glares at Bjornalf. "We are peaceful pilgrims, not warriors! It is not our business to fight such brutes!"
chris107: A big and wicked grin creases Hakeems face at the thought of slaughter AND treasure.
chris107: It is not a pretty sight
Smon: Fat Man: "I had to throw gold to the Goblins to aid our escape - kill them and you may have it..."
Kjato Ragfoot: Killing goblins for gold does not sound that bad.
Smon: Fat Man: "And perhaps Priestess Vex would have additional reward for you, since she would not send men to aid us, it is really the least she could do..."
chris107: 1 min chaps, the eclipse is starting. Have a great view right down the Avon valley
atherton: "the city is only a days march from here"
atherton: "perhaps we could assay the city first and then stop by the shrine on the way back?"
chris107: (Ouch all I got is sore eyes :()
Smon: Further along the bar sits an old farmer nursing an ouzo. The left side of his scalp is missing, replaced with a mass of scar tissue. He listens with interest to the goings-on.
chris107: "Nay a few goblins will oil my blade well on the way."
chris107: (And the gold will be very welcome too)
chris107: "Your ruins have stood for many a year Tor. They will be there in the morning."
Smon: The farmer whistles softly. "Ye all are venturers? Heading Thracia way? I can tell ye a thing or two 'bout that place..."
Kjato Ragfoot: What did you call me???!!??
Smon: "And about the Crypt of Ulther, too. Why, all the ruins round these parts, Scalpy Jack is the man to ask!" He grins.
atherton: "well tell us about them over another ouzo" I order him a drink
chris107: "Scalpy Jack?! A fine name for one so horridly scarred! Who took your locks old fellow?"
Smon: Hakeem pays his coppers. The blonde slave girl heads into the kitchen to tend the stew-pot.
chris107: Hakeem does?
Smon: Scalpy grins. "Beastmen! I was a pack-bearer for a bunch of venturers much like yerself. They left me fer dead."
chris107: Hakeem looks impressed.
Kjato Ragfoot: Clever.
Smon: (sorry, I see Tor was paying upthread)
chris107: (Phew)
Smon: Tor pays his 2cp and the girl pours Jack a drink. "Thanks Serani, thank ee Mister dwarf" says Jack.
chris107: "Tell us more Scalpy. All you know of ancient Thrcia and this shrine to a piddling saint."
Smon rolls 1d20+5 and gets: [13] 13, (+5) = 18
Smon: Jack: "Mr dwarf has the right of it. The city is vast, but the caverns beneath vaster still, full of wonders like the Pool of Watery Wonders that's said to grant safety - we were seeking it when the Beastmen overtook us..."
chris107: "Pool of Watery Wonders?!" Hakeem gasps in true astonishment.
Kjato Ragfoot: Watery sounds always good.
Smon: "Hope for your sakes their war with the Deathwalkers has depleted their numbers. At any rate we've not had a raid since last year...Ye know they broke in to the shrine, stole the gold statue of Apollo? Things haven't been the same since..."
atherton: "we must go there" I gasp, shaking Hakeem's arm
Kjato Ragfoot: How big is this Apollo?
chris107: Hakeem eyes glow with acquisitive lust at the mention of a whole statue made of gold.
Smon: Jack: "Ah, about a foot."
atherton: "forget this country shrine and its yokel worshippers, gold awaits us in the city!"
chris107: "Is this Apollo a big fat fellow like yonder priest?"
Smon: Jack: "If yer going there, seek out the ruined temple of Zeus by the reflecting pool, but watch out for the sentries! The Beastmen keep archers in the trees."
Smon: Jack: "Apollo? Fat? Naw. Slim, like most gods."
chris107: (OOC I'd rather get used to the system agin a few goblins first than jump right into Thracia. Happy to go there anytime, would just like to start gently)
chris107: Hakeem looks sad that the golden statue won't be fat.
atherton: (OOC I say we hit the city on a preiminary raid first, no need to dig in too deep)
Smon: The bar girl Serani is joined by a stout fellow with red mutton-chops - they kiss. Jack: "Evening, Mr Aldo." Aldo Redeye nods. "Evening Jack, gentlemen."
chris107: (OOC - having tried that with the last few characters and dying horridly I'm not sure. There are a lot of bad ass stuff there.)
Kjato Ragfoot: Yeah. Let's take that shrine first, to get used to fight alongside each other.
Smon: Serani goes into the kitchen; the blonde slave emerges carrying platters of stew for the pilgrims' table.
chris107: Hakeem looks on bemused. He had no idea that daughters kissed their fathers in such a way.
Smon: Jack nods. "Very wise. Goblins are weaker than Beastmen."
atherton: (OOC Kjato, I don't want to get side tracked by another quest, lets hit the city)
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornal will walk over to the pilgrims and hit the leader strongly on the back.
Smon: (Keep it IC please)
Kjato Ragfoot: Hey old chap. Tell me more about those goblins and the temple of yours.
Smon: The fat man coughs a gobbet of mutton as Bjornal whacks him on the back. He blinks.
Kjato Ragfoot: Maybe, just maybe we pass it on our way and slaughter some goblins for sports.
chris107: Hakeem joins Bjornalf to hear more.
atherton: I'm going to question Jack regarding approaches to the city and the general lay of the land
Smon: "*cough* Why yes, warrior... It lies on the bluffs on the far side of the Selatine Plain, north of Oriax's tower. St Ulther of course was the first to master the ancient magics of the Lighthouse, saving many a ship from the rocks..."
chris107: "Come Tor. We'll rape your ancient city of gold 'for long. Lets slay these Goblins first. I hear tell your folk have no love for 'em?"
atherton: "perhaps we could recruit them?"
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. A lighthouse god? Did not know you southies had them. Perhaps you are not that bad after all!
chris107: (Will this chap sketch us a map to the place on the back of a beer mat?)
atherton: "we could offer them a few gold coins to carry our equipment to the city"
atherton: "probably more than they'd get from holding up a rural shrine for a month"
chris107: "I'd rather start my mountain of skulls with a few goblin heads."
atherton: "deep down goblins are decent folk"
chris107: h
Smon: (OOC new PC keeps deleting my lines, sorry for delays)
atherton: "knew a few from the city of the Invincicle Overlord. They do the street cleaning there you know"
chris107: Hakeem looks at the strange dwarf with astonishment.
Kjato Ragfoot: We can slay some goblins and offer the remaining to let them live if they carry our loot?
chris107: "I heard tell that the wee folk of the mountains were fierce warriors and enemies of goblin kind.?"
atherton: "the carrot and the stick approach, sound reasoning Skandik"
Smon: The fat man smiles to Bjornalf, offering a hand. "Why yes, St Ulther was a great Saint of Mitra in ancient days! I am Borgus, deacon of Mitra."
atherton: "we are, but fighting goblins over some rural shrine won't fill our pockets with gold"
chris107: "So we leave at dawn to clear the shrine?"
atherton: "they'll see sense, of cause they'll run when they get to the city"
Kjato Ragfoot: I am Bjornalf the Sailor. Nice to meet you. People who guide sailors home are always welcome!
chris107: If so Hakeem will spill 6 gold coins onto the bar to pay for beer all round. If you're going to fight you want the gods smiling upon your venture.
Smon: Deacon Borgus: "Follow the southern track 8 miles across the plain. Before you reach Oriax's Tower, a path to the right leads towards the cliffs. The old shrine lies atop the cliffs, but we entered the mausoleum at the lower entrance, the caves at the base of the cliffs..."
atherton: "lets get an early night fellow adventurers, for tomorrow the shrine and hopefully the city await us"
Smon: The Innkeeper's eyes light up at the sight of the six gold coins. He scoops them up. "Drinks all round on the Altanian gentleman!"
chris107: Hakeem will booze and carouse well into the wee small hours
atherton: I'll go to bed early
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf will stay for carousing.
atherton: and dream fevered dreams of gold
chris107: Immersing himself in a convenient horse trough in the morning to bring himself around.
Smon: Aldo: "We have private rooms... Malenn, come over here and attend to this noble gentleman!"
chris107: Lots of dancing on tables, quaffing of ale and fondling the local girls complete his evening
Smon: The curvaceous blonde comes over, looking appraisingly at Hakeem, brushes hair from her eyes and sits on his lap.
Smon rolls 1d20+3 and gets: [20] 20, (+3) = 23
chris107: Then he's ready to do some slaying
Smon: And apparently by dawn she is madly in love with him.
chris107: She's only human
chris107: Hakeem is eager to be off slaying. A firm slap on her rump and he's away.
Smon: Hakeem wakes nestled in arms of the naked blonde wench, while Bjornalf has a quieter time chatting with the pilgrims about sailing matters.
Smon: Next morning you assemble downstairs, Hakeem's gold having paid for your rooms.
Smon: Aldo Redeye serves you morning gruel. Aldo: "If you see any of Oriax's Orcs down there, best be polite. They're ordered not to attack, unless in defence... but they take that pretty liberal."
Smon: Aldo: "Ye know about Oriax, right? The mad wizard?"
chris107: More skulls!
Kjato Ragfoot: Oriax?
atherton: "we're not here to fight orcs, we're here for the gold wildman"
atherton: "yes who is Oriax?"
chris107: Hakeem looks at the dwarf steadily.
Smon: Aldo: "The Horned Wizard of the Lighthouse - they say he has a magic mirror through which he seizes treasure and girls from other worlds... The Orcs work fer him. Often they come here to Selatine to sell the slave girls for supplies..."
chris107: "That mirror sounds useful. Maybe we should burn this fellows tower down and steal it?"
atherton: "it would be unwise to annoy such a one as powerful as that Hakeem"
Smon: Aldo: "They say he's the reason Warlord Yusan can't just march north against us...that he protects us, in a way."
atherton: (OOC its dinner here, Chris can roll for me. Back in 30 minutes)
Kjato Ragfoot: Maybe we can rent his mirror for some time, if we share the plunder from other worlds with him?
chris107: NP
Smon: Aldo looks at Hakeem. (ok ath)
chris107: A fine idea Bjornalf
chris107: "Don't look so worried barkeep! I'll not slay your wizardling - yet..." He goes off laughing heartily.
Smon: GM: You finish your breakfast. Malenn the buxom blonde slavegirl comes downstairs, smiling dreamily at Hakeem. Aldo grins. "First time I've seen that one smile since I bought her! You'll make her forget her lost love!"
chris107: Swinging his mighty blade to stretch his muscles.
chris107: "A fine wench."
chris107: "Shall we away and kill us some Goblins?"
Smon: You assemble outside the Inn, Hakeem practicing with his mighty sword. A small crowd gathers, among them the gangly youth Pollyakkus, and a shapely young woman in the gold & white robes of a priestess of Mitra-Apollo.
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes. Nothing better to start a day.
chris107: I knew I'd like this Norseman!
Smon: She steps forwards. "I am Jana Vex, Priestess of Apollo. Deacon Borgus tells me you will cleanse the Shrine of St Ulther. My thanks."
chris107: "And your gold lady?"
Smon: Jana nods to Pollyakkus, who steps forward with a platter on which sit three gourds. "I have prepared three healing potions to aid your quest."
chris107: "A fine gift indeed. My thanks."
Smon: Pollyakkus steps forward, offering the trio the potions.
chris107: One each?
Kjato Ragfoot: Good to see people who can estimate the worth of a lighthouse.
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornals friendly clasps Pollyakkus thankfuly on the shoulder.
Smon: (You can take one each)
chris107: Hakeem wraps his carefully in his wolfskin
Smon: Pollyakkus smiles at Bjornalf, as does the lovely Jana. Jana: "Borgus says you are a friend of St Ulther. May I know your name?"
Kjato Ragfoot: (Bjornals puts his into his spell component pouch.)
Kjato Ragfoot: I am Bjornalf Brighteyes, Sailor of Solthorp.
10:06am  2015-3-20 prespos Has entered the room
chris107: Hi John
prespos: hi Smon, Ath, Chris, Kjato
Smon: hi Prespos - just starting my new 5e campaign.
chris107: Others is off eating his lunch. We're about to slay some Goblins.
Smon: Jana nods to Bjornalf and smiles. "I will pray for your success."
prespos: just waking up
prespos:
Kjato Ragfoot: Haha. I am sure Apollo is always keeping an eye on you!
chris107: Did we get directions to the lower caverns too or just to the shrine?
Kjato Ragfoot: Thus, your prayer will be helpful.
Smon: Jana: "Do you wish Pollyakkus to escort you to the catacombs of St Ulther?"
chris107: "That would be helpful indeed."
Smon: (Jana blushes slightly at Bjornalf's comment about Apollo)
Smon: Pollyakkus gulps nervously, but nods. "F-follow me..."
chris107: Off we go then!
Kjato Ragfoot: Hei Ho! Hei Ho! Goblin slaying we go!
Smon: The youth leads you to the western gate, where a guard in bronze cuirass & helm opens the gate.
Smon: Outside you see fields being tilled, further off shepherds with their sheep.
chris107: (SSimon - how does 'Rage' work? Do I have to be cross? Or do I just kind of get cross?)
Kjato Ragfoot: Say Pollyakkus, do you often go slaying goblins?
Smon: Pollyakkus leads you down the south-western path, through the fields and out onto grassy heathland roamed by sheep.
Smon: (Rage - yes, it ends on any turn where you don't attack & are not attacked. You can enter it at will 2/day)
chris107: (Thanks)
prespos:
Smon: Pollyakkus: "Er, no... I'll be staying outside. You'll need a rear watch, right?"
Smon: He smiles weakly.
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf puts an arm around Pollyakkus shoulders.
Smon: Pollyakkus: "Don't waste those potions... Mitra has given me some healing powers, Praise Be."
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah. Your first goblin hunt. We'll make a man out of you yet!
chris107: Hakeem slaps him on the back playfully "Worry not twiglet! We'll keep you safe."
Smon: Pollyakkus staggers.
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: [6] 6,
Kjato Ragfoot: Just imagine how Jana will beam at you proudly when you tell her about all the goblins you've slain.
Smon: heh
Smon: You have walked for about an hour, some three miles, when you see ahead of you people approaching.
chris107: Humans?
Smon: A coffle of twelve buxom naked female slaves, escorted by four thick-set, brutish humanoids with whips and serrated swords - Orcs!
chris107: Hakeem scowls at the orcs
Smon: The slave coffle is roped together, two orcs on each side. They approach you at an easy pace, the grey-skinned Orcs watching you suspiciously.
Kjato Ragfoot: (What is a coffle?)
chris107: Aline of slaves
Smon: Pollyakkus: "Don't make any sudden movements..."
Smon: (line of slaves roped together)
chris107: And smiles at the naked ladies
Smon: Pollyakkus: "We better get off the trail, let them past..." He nods respectfully at the largest Orc.
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah, that are the infamous Oxian orcs?
Smon: The girls look fearful, but a couple smile back at Hakeem
chris107: Hakeem doesn't move. They can walk around.
Kjato Ragfoot: I can see why that Oxian wants to keep his mirror...
Smon: Pollyakkus nods. "Aye... " The biggest Orc approaches Hakeem.
Smon: Orc: "Out way, Human!"
Smon: Its red eyes glare at Hakeem.
chris107: Hakeem spits at his feet. "Go around Orc."
Smon: It's about 6'4", broad-shouldered.
Smon: The Orc snarls at the challenge and draws its blade...
chris107: Quick as a flash Hakeem will cut it's head off with his huge blade
chris107:
Smon: Hakeem roll d20+2 dex check
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: [12] 12,
Kjato Ragfoot: Two golds on Hakeem winning within three rounds!
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: [12] 12, (+2) = 14
chris107: (14 Dex)
Smon: Hakeem is faster than the Orc. Do you want to Rage?
chris107: (Is high always good in 5e?)
Smon: yes
chris107: No I won't rage.
chris107: So to attack I roll a d20 and add my +5?
Smon: ok, roll d20+5 to hit
chris107: Needing to get his A/C or higher?
Smon: need 13
Smon: yes
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: [18] 18, (+5) = 23
Smon: hit!
Smon: 2d6+3 I think
chris107 rolls 2d6+3 and gets: [2] 2, [5] 5, (+3) = 10
Smon: Hakeem strikes the Orc a mighty blow. It staggers, snarls, and strikes back...
chris107: A/C15
Smon rolls 1d20+5 and gets: [14] 14, (+5) = 19
Smon: It cuts Hakeem
Smon rolls 1d8+3 and gets: [5] 5, (+3) = 8
Smon: 8 dmg, Hakeem at 7 hp.
chris107: 7/15HP
chris107: No he gets cross
chris107: Now
Smon: The other 3 orcs watch Bjornalf, Pollyakkus & Tor.
Smon: Hakeem gets Angry.
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf tries to convince the 3 orcs to bet with him on the outcome.
Smon rolls 1d20+5 and gets: [4] 4, (+5) = 9
Smon: The orcs just glare at Bjornalf.
Smon: Hakeem can attack.
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: [2] 2, (+5) = 7
chris107:
Smon: The orc leader parries and ripostes...
Smon rolls 1d20+5 and gets: [9] 9, (+5) = 14
Smon: miss
chris107: Phew!
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: [2] 2, (+5) = 7
chris107: Bloody hell!
Smon: Hakeem's pantherish reflexes keep him alive for a moment, but the orc parries again, strikes again...
Smon rolls 1d20+5 and gets: [19] 19, (+5) = 24
Smon: *stab*
Smon rolls 1d8+3 and gets: [7] 7, (+3) = 10
prespos:
chris107: Hakeem shows no sign of pain
Smon: 10/2=5 dmg
chris107: 2/15HP
Smon: Hakeem at 2 hp
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: [10] 10, (+5) = 15
Smon: The 3 orcs are yelling: "Grrarrr! Finish him!"
Smon: But Hakeem strikes first, a deadly blow...
chris107 rolls 2d6+3 and gets: [4] 4, [3] 3, (+3) = 10
Smon: hit
Smon: The greatsword takes the orc commander in the throat, severing most of the neck.
Smon: The body staggers back, arms flailing, then crumples.
chris107: Hakeem smiles at the lovely ladies
Smon: The other three take a step back, away from Hakeem!
chris107: And spits on the Orc corpse.
chris107: "Now walk around."
Smon: A red-haired slave woman, older than the rest, cries out to Hakeem: "Save us! Ow!" - an orc lashes her back.
Smon: The orcs look at Hakeem. "We walk round..."
chris107: Hakeem allows them to walk around. He's not here to rescue slaves after all. (Nothing to do with having 2 HP left)
Smon: The orcs whip the slave coffle off the track, directing it around Hakeem, while giving him a wide birth.
chris107: (Nice fast bloody combat - love it )
Smon: (Hakeem got 100 XP btw, 1/3 to 2nd level!)
chris107:
chris107: Any loot on the big orc once his pals are out of sight?
Kjato Ragfoot: Well done Hakeem, those orcs won't harass us again.
chris107: And didn't Pollyakkus mention some thing about healing spells?
atherton: "we might have to pay the sorceror out for killing his commander" I grumble
chris107: Or do we sit and have a good rest, clean the wounds etc?
Smon rolls 1d100 and gets: [13] [13] 13,
chris107: (Is that how the healing mechanism works?)
Smon: The orc had a pouch of copper coins.
Smon rolls 5d6 and gets: [2] 2, [1] 1, [2] 2, [5] 5, [2] 2, = 12
Smon: 12 in all - drinking money.
chris107: Yeah!
Smon: GM: Yes you can break for lunch (1 hr) and tend wounds to use your Healing Die, recover 1d12+3 hp
chris107: cool
chris107 rolls 1d12+3 and gets: [11] 11, (+3) = 14
chris107: 15/15HP
atherton: what waepons does the orc have?
chris107: Hakeem stretches gracefully. Shrugging of the scratches dealt by the Orc.
Smon: You take a break, Hakeem cleans and dresses his wounds and is soon feeling fine, just shallow cuts (tomorrow you get your healing die back)
Smon: The orc had a soft leather whip, the kind that won't scar flesh, and a heavy sword (1d8 dmg)
atherton: I take them both and hide them somewhere
Smon: Its serrated blade is crude but vicious.
atherton: "we can sell them later at the market" I explain to the others
Smon: Its heavy leather armour is mostly intact, but smells foul.
chris107: Hakeem shrugs. Eager to spill more blood.
Smon: Pollyakkus: "I doubt many will buy that blade, sir - they fear Oriax."
atherton: I strip his armour off as well
Smon: He glances nervously south, towards the distant lighthouse. "Wonder if he saw us..."
atherton: "scrap metal for the blacksmith then"
Smon: "They say Oriax sees all."
atherton: "we should hasten away from here then"
atherton: "let us lay low for a while till Oriax forgets us"
chris107: A lusty gail of laughter is Hakeems' only reply to twiglets worries.
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, hopefully he saw us - this feat will increase our hope of him employing us.
Smon: GM: After resting you continue on. Another 5 miles across the coastal plain, and the Tower of Oriax is clearly visible to the south, when you reach a faint trail to your right, going north.
chris107: "I we have more Goblins to slay!" He says cheerfully
atherton: "perhaps Skandik, but we would be unwise to press the point"
Smon: Pollyakkus leads you onto the side path, a mile across the heath and you see cliffs rising ahead. A narrow trail leads up the cliff face to a ruined Ghinoran (Grecian) temple above, while at the base of the cliff is a dark cave entrance.
chris107: The very thing
Smon: You spot a patch of two-day-old dark blood on a rock by the cave entrance, and the signs of rapid flight from the cave.
Smon: (20 mins left)
atherton: I advance boldy to the cave mouth
atherton: "is any one home?" I call
chris107: I go with him, sword at the ready.
Kjato Ragfoot: I will stay at their side.
Smon: Beyond the cave mouth a 10' tunnel runs some 30' feet then widens out into a large natural cave, limestone, the floor rough and uneven.
chris107: Direction please Simon?
Smon: It's too dark to see much.
atherton: I march up the passage, idly swinging my axe
Smon: Pollyakkus: "I shall wait outside..."
chris107: (Are there torches in our adventurers packs?)
Smon: Tor can see into the cave with his dwarf vision.
Kjato Ragfoot: Pollyakkus: Good idea, then you can explain Oxias what happened with his orcs.
Smon: The tunnel runs north into the SW corner of the cave. On the far side of the cave is a pile of bones, topped with a goblin skull.
atherton: "ho, is there any one here?" I bellow
atherton: "is looks ill, a goblin skull"
Smon: Hakeem calls out again. Something moves off to your right, beyond your field of vision.
atherton: "let us light a torch and examine before we proceed"
Smon: sorry, Tor calls out (if you put your name in your posts for now that would be good)
atherton: do I see the movement?
Smon: No, you just heard it.
chris107: Hakeem leaps aside his barbarian senses alert to danger.
Smon: Hakeem rummages in his pack, finds a torch.
Smon rolls 1d20+3 and gets: [12] 12, (+3) = 15
Smon: Tor reckons the sound was an animal of some kind, four footed, not too big.
Smon: GM: Hakeem lights a torch?
Smon: (10 mins)
chris107: He lights the torch, holding it in his off hand. His mighty blade in the other.
Smon: The torchlight illuminates the cave. Three tunnels run off the eastern side of the cave, north east and south east. The cave is 20' n-s, 40' e-w. Something glints silver inside the goblin skull.
Smon: No sign of life.
atherton: I pick up the skull and examine it
Smon: Tor picks up the skull - straw and mouse droppings and silver coins fall out, scattering on the ground.
Kjato Ragfoot: I'll keep watch, so that Tor is not eaten by some cat while examing the skull.
Smon: 12 sp in all.
chris107:
chris107: As does hakeem
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: [4] 4,
atherton: "an offering it looks like"
atherton: "I sall take these silver pieces for our expenses"
atherton: I'll examine each of the three tunnels, does any look more travelled than the others?
chris107: Do any of the passageways lead upwards?
Smon: You hear faint movement again, from the south-east tunnel.
Smon: The central - east - tunnel seems well-travelled, the stone worn.
atherton: "let find the source of that furtive noise"
chris107: Hakeem sticks the torch into a crack in the walls or floor if he can? And sword ready investigates.
atherton: I lead the way to the south east tunnel
Smon: The north tunnel goes 15' into a small cave, rats skitter away as the torchlight falls on them.
Smon: The south tunnel runs about 12' into another small cave - as Tor enters the tunnel he sees the sinuous forms of three giant ferrets, about 4' long, glaring at him. Each has a dead rat or two between its paws and they look ready to defend their booty.
atherton: "only ferrets, live and let live"
Smon: (The east tunnel runs about 15' then splits)
chris107: Ferrets! Good job Eliana isn't with us
atherton: I return to the well worn eastern tunnel
chris107: Yeah leave the ferrets be.
chris107: Hakeem gathers up his torch.
chris107: And joins the dwarf.
Kjato Ragfoot: Indeed. Ferret pelts are just not worth the fight.
Smon: The east tunnel splits after 15', the main body runs south-east and ends at a spiral stairway running down into the depths. Two narrow tunnels only 3' wide run north-east, these both look well travelled despite their width.
atherton: "shall we ascend both?"
chris107: Hakeem does the sums to figure out if he could use his sword in these cramped conditions?
atherton: "or one or the other?"
Kjato Ragfoot: One first, the other second.
chris107: The first.
atherton: "or we could try the stairs?"
Smon: You would be able to stab with your greatsword in 3' tunnel, might have Disadvantage if an attacker got in close.
atherton: ok we enter the first of the north eastern tunnels
chris107: (Okay, thanks)
chris107: Hakeem leads the way up the first narrow tunnel
chris107: Torch in hand and sword ready to stab.
Smon: You enter the left one of the narrow tunnels. It runs 20' to a side tunnel to the right that joins the parrallel narrow tunnel, then beyond that 20' temporarily opens into an 8' wide cavelet before narrowing again and rejoining the other narrow tunnel.
chris107: Any thing in the caveat?
Smon: It bends north, now about 5' wide, and after 20' you see ahead that it opens up at a T-junction with a broad e-w tunnel of worked stone. There is a foul smell here, a smell Tor recognises - goblins!
Smon: (cavelet empty)
atherton: "goblins" I whisper "nearby"
chris107:
Smon: I better stop there. Can resume tonight?
chris107: Excellent!
chris107: Yup, 6PM?
Smon: 6.30pm, I'll be home about 6.05 & need to get son some dinner.
Kjato Ragfoot: No, sorry.
chris107: Thanks Simon/guys. Good start
atherton: ok thanks for the game Simon
chris107: 6:30 it is.
Smon: Well done not dying yet Chris.
Kjato Ragfoot: I won't be able to play this evening.
chris107: Makes a change
Kjato Ragfoot: But the game was fun for a start.
atherton: Hakeem is a bit too enthusiastic!

Description: Caradoc is taciturn, grim faced dwarf. Although its a little hard tell, given that his facial features are almost obscured by a virtual forest of mutant eyebrows and a great fiery red beard of epic proportions. Left as an observer from a caravan from the dwarven citadel at Thunderhold, for the past 12+ years he has often sweated it out in the hot southlands f
or his clansmen back in the hold, originally (4433) spying on the turmoil in Hymdale. Recent events have drawn his attention to the Ghinarian hills: with the recent turn in the war between the Beastmen and the Deathwalkers, sensing an opportunity he has taken leave of Thunderhold once more and ventured south, taking ship from the CSIO with fabled sea-captain Orson the Northron, along the eastern coast of Pazidan. Destination: the fabled ruins of the ancient city of Thracia.
