Smon: It's now 19/10 and you've been resting at Bratanis several days, I believe Chris deducted accommodation costs.
Smon: Doris has gone on ahead taking her new slaves north to Ahyf.
Amalric: Where to, Ken?
Smon: Towards evening the convoy of the elven slaver Seroni is spotted returning to Bratanis, crossing the bridge over the Thrace river with her six men, half dozen pack mules and Shagpa (huge shaggy marsupials) and a coffle of eleven shapely slave-girls
Smon: They head over the meadows to Bratanis' front gate, and Ruggio lets them in.
Smon: Seroni talks with Ruggio, then heads to the Longhouse to pay her respects to Lady Aeschela.
Smon: Are you both at the Inn?
Goonergeezer: yep, kal spends most of the days resting up at the inn, keeping an eye on Ellen and playing with the dog as long as the owner lets him
Amalric: i guess Lance and Jana will have gone to meet up with Kal to discuss the day ahead
Smon: "wolf" not dog 
Goonergeezer: Kal still calls it doggie 
Goonergeezer: he will also help collect the empties and help with any over enthusastic drunks
Smon: The Inn is quiet, Ellen occasionally stopping for a word with tongue-tied Kal. After a short while Seroni enters the Inn with half her men, while the others secure the slaves in the pit outside.
Smon: Seroni scans the room, greets Mako the halfling Innkeep, then turns to Lance, Jana and Kal. "Hello there - we missed you!" She grins.
Goonergeezer: "Got tacked by big burd, relly urt me"
Smon: Seroni nods. "I heard you were held up." She sits down at your table. "You still looking for work?"
Amalric: "Yes, our new partner became interested in the slave business, which delayed us, and then Kal took up ornithology."
Goonergeezer: Kal looks to Lance.....
Amalric: "But of course, we are looking for opportunities to improve our financial situation, of course."
Smon: Seroni nods. "Seven gold each to serve as guards to Ahyf, by way of Kren's Cairn. Or if I sell all the girls at the Cairn I'll pay you off then."
Goonergeezer: (is kal wanted there?)

Amalric: "Make it ten gold each, and you have a deal."
Goonergeezer: "I lyke Krens carne, day not wont me dere"
Smon: Seroni: "Tomorrow we'll take the Old Road north to Theber. It's twenty miles, two days with the slaves. Lots of raiders on the route... After that it gets safer, Krens Cairn has been sending out patrols."

Smon: Seroni looks to Lance, then nods. 
Amalric: "Then we leave tomorrow! Anything else you would like to discuss, Seroni?"
Smon: Seroni shrugs. "We had a pretty quiet trip... We saw a red dragon! Flying south along the coast. Seemed like it skirted out to sea to avoid Oriax's tower."
Amalric: "Really? Oriax must be some wizard then, if even dragons fly away from him."
Smon: Seroni shrugs. She chats a while and introduces you to her men, mostly natives of Ahyf to the north. She leads you out to the slave pit where her men are feeding Mako's stew to the slave girls.
Smon: Seroni: "Plan is to sell as many as I can at Kren's Cairn. The men there are mostly shipwrecked sailors, you know? Still short of wives. They tend to go for the sturdier ones. Then on to Ahyf with what's left. Some merchants may buy pretty ones for the market at Tula, otherwise they could end up coin girls on the docks."
Smon: Eventually Seroni bids you goodnight and turns in early.
Goonergeezer: Kal flinches as the mention of working girls on the docks but says nothing
Amalric: Lance is a bit surprised by just how cold Seroni seems, pure business
Amalric: but he tries not to show it
Amalric: I guess we rest up again and head out in the morning?
Goonergeezer: yep

Smon: You rest overnight, your last night in Bratanis.

Smon: It's a clear day with a breeze from the east lessening the humidity as you leave Bratanis and set off north-eastwards along the route of an ancient road, said to date back to Kelnoran times.

Amalric: "No thanks, Kal. At least wait until I'm good and dead, there's a good chap. Hopefully that time is a long way off."
Smon: Most of the day passes peacefully, you proceed at a leisurely pace, but towards evening a heavy rain begins to fall, warm dollops quickly soaking through. 
Smon: Seroni: "There's an old waystation up ahead, a half-way post between Bratanis and Theber. Good place to shelter for the night, perhaps."

Smon: Seroni nods. "Good plan. Should be a quarter mile ahead, there's a trail off to the left."
Goonergeezer: "kay, cum Lanse, s'go"
Amalric: "Lead on, my good man."
Smon: GM: Following Seroni's directions you press ahead and soon find a faint trail leading left off the road through the underbrush.
Goonergeezer: Kal draws his sword in antivipation of a good fight
Smon: Then you notice something on the trail. A ripped piece of bright fabric is hanging from a thornbush. It looks smeared with dried blood.
Smon: It looks like silk, an orangey-pink colour.
Amalric: "This can't be good. Looks like trouble ahead, be careful."
Amalric: does Lance's sword detect gnolls?
Smon: The sword is quiescent.
Amalric: (not just right now, I mean in general)
Smon: You only know it can shed light and is +3 vs gnolls.
Amalric: (cool)
Amalric: let's proceed
Smon: Ahead through the trees you can make out a blocky grey stone building with a slate roof, many slates missing. The window slits are small and high up.
Goonergeezer: ant noise from within?
Goonergeezer: #any
Smon: There are battered double doors of dark oak, each five feet wide by seven feet high, which show some signs of damage.
Amalric: are the doors open?
Smon: You don't hear anything, and there is no chimney-smoke.
Smon: /roll 1d6

Smon: The doors are closed.
Amalric: "WHat do you think, Kal? Shall we investigate, or go back to Seroni and say we must move on?"
Goonergeezer: "Yoo go day way, i go dis" Kal gestures to his left and right
Smon: The left door's upper hinge looks damaged. 
Amalric: Lance nods and moves to the left
Smon: The rain is getting heavier as you move forward off the trail. It looks as if the doors have been used recently, judging by the churned mud in front of them.
Smon: You're circling the building?
Amalric: I think so
Goonergeezer: (kal is doing so yes)
Smon: You begin circling the old waystation, Lance to left, Kal to the right.

Smon: There are more of the small high window slits on the west and east walls. As Lance is circling to the left, he thinks he hears a noise from the building - a guttural muttering.
Smon: It's hard to make out anything over the sound of the rain.
Amalric: Lance completes a circle or half-circle and tells Kal what he heard
Smon: The north side is the same as east and west, no more doors. You rendezvous on the north side.

Goonergeezer: how high are the windows and are the slits big enough for someone to climb through?
Smon: They're about 10' up, only 2-3" wide, much too narrow to climb through.
Goonergeezer: "Kal pull der dor open and we rush in and kill it, den we tak its muney"
Smon: The building is about 45-50' square you'd reckon.
Amalric: "How about you open the door, I shout at what's inside, and you can stab it as it runs out after me?"
Goonergeezer: "Gud Plan, yoose gud at runnin way"
Amalric: "Healthy instinct for self-preservation, I call it."
Smon: Going back round to the door side, are you going to try pushing the doors open?
Amalric: or we could just pound on them, with my sword hilt
Goonergeezer: ok, Kal plants his weapon in the mud and gets ready to heave the door open, but will stay out of sight of the interior (i thought it was pull?)
Goonergeezer: if its push then its different
Smon: Inspecting the doors, yup they open towards you, hence the visible hinges. Roll d6+3 STR check.
Goonergeezer rolls 1d6+3 and gets: 4, (+3) = 7 
Smon: You'd have to be in front of the doors to take the handles and pull them?
Goonergeezer: yep easy 
Goonergeezer: pulling onew door, but stepping back with the door as it opens
Smon: ok
Smon: You take the left one of the two double doors. It's heavy and sagging, but drags slowly open.
Smon: Beyond is a dark, lightless corridor, littered with foul debris - bloody rags, and bones - they look both human and animal.
Smon: The corridor is 10' wide and 20' long, ending in a second set of double doors. A smaller door is set in the middle of the left wall.

Smon: You don't hear anything except the rain drumming on the roof above, dripping through gaps in the slates.
Amalric: "Shall we check this door first?"
Goonergeezer: "yer"

Smon: The left door also opens out, towards you.
Smon: Are you using a light source?
Goonergeezer: same procedure as before.....
Smon: Kal pulls open the door, this one moving more easily.
Amalric: yep Kal opens the door, Lance gets ready to run
Smon: Beyond he can make out the dim outlines of a small, foul-smelling chamber, faint light filtering down from the window slits. There are the broken-down remains of old beds, and an alcove or doorway off to the right, at the far end of the north wall.
Smon: You hear guttural snarling, and two dim figures rise to their feet from the beds, swords gleaming in their hands.
Smon: What are you doing?
Amalric: Lance draws his sword and prepares to smite them, using the light from the blade to see them better
Amalric: he'll wait for them to come out of the room though
Amalric: so Kal can join in
Goonergeezer: kal will step back and allow the beasts to come at him and also to allow for swing space
Smon: The figures look roughly man-sized, but slightly slouched. As Lance draws his sword it illuminates the room, soiled beds and piles of bones, and the two hideous pig-faced Orcs, blinking in surprise at the sudden radiance.

Smon: The orcs leer grossly at Lance, but fall back towards the northern alcove.

Smon: I said how the orc did a fighting withdrawal instead of attacking you, he's back with the kobolds. You are in the alcove, pretty well filling it, while kobolds throw at you from both sides.
Smon: So no, missed shots will not hit kobolds.
Amalric: can we shut the door?
Smon: It opens away from you so you'd have to go into the big chamber to get it.
Amalric: guess we're going down swinging then 
Smon: If you went to shut the door then lost init they could attack you in the big chamber.
Goonergeezer: we might be lucky and get saved by the rest of the caravan at the last minute

Smon: Dusk has fallen as you burst out of the monster-infested waystation, the triumphant yips of the dogmen ringing in your eyes.
Smon: You hear a deep roar from further within the building - something big is approaching.
Amalric: "Forget it, just run!"
Goonergeezer: #Kal keeps on running back toward sthe direction of the caravan

Amalric: i was about to make a joke about 00 coming up, bit close that!
Smon: The enemy are slow to pursue, and you run back down the muddy track, soon seeing the slave caravan approaching slowly on the old road ahead.
Smon: Seroni raises an eyebrow as you run up bloodied, muddied and battered.
Smon: "Not a good place to spend the night, then?"
Amalric: "Only if you want to stay for supper"
Goonergeezer: "deres pigs n gogs and a rore from summat up dere"
Goonergeezer: dogs
Smon: Jana steps forward. "I can heal Kal..."
Amalric: "I suggest we depart, with all due haste."
Goonergeezer: "fank yoo Jana"
Smon: Seroni beckons her convoy. "Forward! Quickly!"
Smon: She scans the trees in the direction you came from, there is no sign of your attackers - yet.
Smon: Jana prays to Mitra:

Smon: You press on through the night, muffled moans from the tired slave girls.

Smon: A few hours later, you hear triumphant yips from behind you, and turn to see the mass of pursuing kobolds. with them a single orc, and towards the rear the massive shaggy bulk of a hideous hairy ogre, gripping a knobbled club.

Smon: They're about 90 yards away, 270'.
Smon: Seroni yells for her four guardsmen to ready crossbows and make a stand, while the two drovers keep pushing the beasts and slave coffle onwards.
Goonergeezer: Kal draws his sword, straps on his shield tight and lets out a loud roar
Smon: Seroni looks thoughtful, then goes to stand with her guardsmen, drawing a dagger.
Goonergeezer: "Tayke the dogd owt furst"
Goonergeezer: dogs
Smon: The enemy come on; at 240' the mercs aim their x-bows and fire...

Smon: Seroni helps her wounded man up, nodding to the others. "We need to go catch the convoy, tell them to hold up."
Smon: She turns to Lance. "You fought well, soldier."
Smon: (better wrap up now)
Amalric: Lance smiles and nods. "As did your men."
Smon: Seroni grins. "Like warrior poets, all of you!"
Amalric: Lance turns and checks Jana is okay. "You saved me there, timely intervention, my dear!"
Smon: Jana prizes a kobold dart from her breastplate, grimacing.
Smon: She smiles. "Thank you. I was worried for you..."
Amalric: Lance asks Seroni if she wants to head back to the shelter once we catch the caravan
Goonergeezer: "day mite ave muney dere"
Smon: Seroni: "Hm... We're four hours past it... We'd not reach it till nearly dawn. I'd rather press on and make Theber, give everyone a chance to rest and get warm."
Amalric: "Makes sense."
Amalric: (didn't realise we'd gone that far!)
Amalric: Lance gathers his arrows from the fallen kobolds before they head off
Smon: Searching the ogre, you and the mercs find a pouch of 60gp; the dead orc had 20 electrum, the kobolds only coppers.
Smon: Seroni: "Hm... Once we make Theber we'll spend a day or so there - enough time for you to go back and search the waystation if you wish?"
Goonergeezer: "fink we shud"
Amalric: "Nah, leave it. Who knows what might befall us if we go back. We need to rest and recover ourselves."
Smon: A mercenary suggests that Kal should take the orc's money as that was his kill, while the four mercs split the ogre's gold.
Smon: "And Captain Harcourt the kobold treasures."
Amalric: "Even split, gentlemen. Do you think you'd have been able to knock out that ogre with kobolds sticking javelins in you? And vice versa? All is fair in love and war, my friends."
Goonergeezer: "her,her,her,her eee's funy Lanse"
Amalric: "We would be dead without you, you'd be dead without us. All about teamwork, lads."
Smon: Dan the Merc looks thoughtful. "Six of us is ten gold each and 3 electrum, then? Kal get the extra two ep?"
