chris107: Hi Graham
Amalric: KILL THEM ALL!!!!
Amalric: oh
Amalric: did I say that out loud?
Smon: Hi G
Amalric: good evening Chris

Amalric: Simon
Smon: dinner w boy slightly late
chris107: We're both just getting tea...
Amalric: no probs
Amalric: i've eaten, take your time
chris107: How did you enjoy TRAVELLER Graham?
Amalric: it was very interesting, Chris
Smon: eating & talking w boy
Amalric: I suspected we were in some sort of alternate reality, but just went with the flow
chris107: Good. Very odd but hopefully all prepared to blast off next week
Amalric: be interesting to see where we go next week
chris107: Right. Tucking into food now. Mac open beside me so ready to start when ever.
Smon: I am a bad dm, I prioritised my son's homework over getting ready for game...
chris107: hehe
Smon: & came down w bad cold yesterday so everything takes longer
chris107:
Smon: OK dinner done, got boy on the Medieval Total War (2002)
Smon:
Smon: I told him he had to play it or ~read a book~ (eek!) - no TV cartoons!
Smon: Posted map of the dungeon you were in - http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/ruins-of-gorgon-map-forested-hills-on.html
Smon: I had the hardcopy from Dyson's Delve, good stuff.
chris107: ah yes. Saw that.
Amalric: I remember playing all the tutorials on MTW, but never actually played the game
Smon: GM: end of last session >>Smon: Ruggio nods. "A slaver called Roth has seen her, at Yusan's Den. He is at the Inn here in Bratanis if you wish to question him." Amalric: "And she shows us where they are - they help us, we help them." Amalric: "That would be most interesting." Kjato Ragfoot: The soap passes from hand to hand, as we Skandiks say. Smon: OOC Will finish up now. chris107: Kjato Ragfoot: My lord, if you agree, I would like to speak to that merchant? chris107: Nice session guys! Thanks Simon Smon: OOC Fun game guys, well done vs shadows. Should be a big XP session! Kjato Ragfoot: All right. Was a good game, all in all. Smon: Ruggio nods to Bjornalf - "Certainly." Smon: Will post log. Amalric: "We both should, Vizier"<<
Smon: Foraging - Hakeem & the girls are looking for food and a camp, Hakeem can make a Survival check.
chris107: If there's anything you can do with Graham, feel free. I'm having seconds
Smon: d20+4 for Hakeem
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 9, (+2) = 11
chris107: oops add 2
Smon: 13 is a pass, Hakeem fells a wild goat with his greatsword  & can get a fire going.
chris107: yay!
Smon: Meanwhile back in Bratanis, Bjornalf is speaking intently with Ruggio, and also asks to speak with ex-Lady Aeschela.
Amalric: Rey will go with him
Smon: Does Rey want to speak with the slaver Rolth who saw the captured wizardess with Yusan, or do something else?
Smon: Bjornalf from the thread: >>Bjornalf will try to negotiate. Ruggio he will tell that he will soon have to fight side by side with Hakeem and Lord Vex on the battlefield, probably do not wishing a sour mood turning the allies against each other in the heat of battle. Also, he will rule on strength alone, making it easy for another conqueror with even slightly closer relation to the Vexes to gain loyality from the locals. It would be a wise move to find a way to strengthen his right to rule beyond being simply a conqueror, gaining support for his rule from a legitimate claimant. Aschae he will tell that her situation is hopeless: She has to do whatever Ruggio wants, when he wants it, how he wants it. Getting into a better relation with him would greatly improve her personal conditions (and be it only feigning a migraine). Furthermore, she failed Yusan: She was not able to keep her promises due to a lack of strength. She just needs to look at the former amazon queen to see what Yusan does to people that rejected him. She did not only reject him, she broke his word on him, as she allowed somebody else to take what she promised Yusan. Not only will she suffer, but her subjects as well. Her only hope is with the Lord's Alliance now, as that is the only thing that might prevent Yusan from alloting his wrath.<<
chris107: Hakeem thinks poor Yusan much maligned.
Smon: I'll do CHA checks for Bjornalf. 1 vs Ruggio:
chris107: He would be a fine ally to despatch Oriax (who's tower and magical mirror he coverts...)
Smon: /roll d20+7
Smon rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 11, (+7) = 18
Smon: Ruggio nods agreeably to Bjornalf, and lets him speak with Aeschela in Ruggio's private chamber.
Smon: Bjornalf roll vs Aeschela:
Amalric: can't realy argue with how things have turned out in Bratanis, Aeschela was a turncoat
Smon: /roll d20+7
Smon rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 12, (+7) = 19
Smon: After some hours, Bjornalf has persuaded Ruggio he should marry Aeschela to gain legitimacy (ie not just a concubine), and Aeschela has agreed to go along with it.
chris107: Yay!
Smon: Thus ending the insult to Lord Vex of Selatine of holding his cousin in bondage.
Smon: Ruggio won't be allowing Hakeem back in Bratanis, however!
chris107: And staying Hakeem from removing his head at some stage...
chris107: As we Barbarians say... BOVVERED?!
Amalric: heh
Smon: Lord Reynard's slaves are being stabled in the stable; Ruggio offers Bjornalf & Rey separate private quarters, and to have any of the girls sent over Rey wishes.
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 6,
Amalric: "Send them all. Much more comfortable that way."
Smon: Hakeem is lucky, despite it being the tail end of the wet season it's a clear starry night a few miles west of Bratanis along the Pilgrims' Trail, as Hakeem Malenn and Jana enjoy a meal of roast goat.
chris107:
Smon: Ruggio nods to Rey: "Your appetites are renowned, Lord Reynard - I shall send them all!"
Smon: GM: Rey do you plan to catch up with Hakeem next morning?
chris107: If he has the energy?
Amalric: yes, yes I/we do
Amalric: the girls can carry Rey's snoring form if need be
chris107: haha
Smon: GM: Rey is escorted to a lavishly appointed chamber he recognises from his previous stay in Bratanis, and an escort of concubines led by Alicia & Lucy are sent in to join him. Lucy looks around at the silk and gauze: "Much better than that stable...!"
Smon: Alicia: "They were keeping us next to some slave girls being taken north, from Oriax's tower to Ahyf I think."
Amalric: "Oh? How many? Were these Roth's caravan?"
chris107: OOC - Slavery, or at least the cover of, could be a way of us getting inside Oriax's tower..
Smon: GM: Bjornalf has gone off to the Bratanis Inn to talk with the slaver Roth. Alicia nods to Rey. "Yes, I heard a guard say that name."
Smon: GM: Rey disports himself until morning, while Hakeem spends a pleasant night with Malenn under the stars; Jana keeping to her own devices on the other side of the fire.
Smon: 7/2/4446: Rather late next morning Rey rouses himself; he Bjornalf and the girls breakfast and bid Bratanis farewell.
Smon: West of town in a wooded valley, Jana and Malenn are gathering nuts & berries as befits the womenfolk  (this is the same valley where your old PCs fought undead gaunt hounds BTW).
chris107: Gosh how time flies.
Smon: Hakeem has just finished wrapping the leftover goat meat for travel when...
Smon: Graham you there?
chris107: (OOC, would be interesting to see how Rey, Bjorn and Hakeem would translate as 1e characters...)
Smon: Thief & Barbarian easy enough, not sure how you'd do a Warlock.
chris107: true
Smon: The White Dwarf demonist class is conceptually closest but focused on summoning, which 5e lacks.
chris107: Would be interesting once Hakeem is 24 strength and constitution!
chris107: I remember the Demonologist
Smon: The White Dwarf barbarian is closer to Hakeem than the Unearthed Arcana version I reckon.
chris107: Yeah deffo
Smon: "Crypts & Things" ripped it off - paid homage to it - for the modern gamer
chris107: Love the WD Barbarian. Though I think D8 rather than D6 Hit Dice would be better.
Smon: Yeah, d6 is for OD&D
chris107: Ah.
Amalric: I also remember the Demonologist
chris107: Yeah I guess it is a long time ago.
Smon: I think it came out before the 1e PHB
Amalric: only problem with that, don't like Demons
chris107: It was sure about that time.
Amalric: and agreed on the d8 for the barbarian, or maybe d10
Smon: GM: Hakeem sees Malenn approaching the camp with a sack full of foraged tubers & nuts, when a sudden scream echoes through the trees - Jana!
Smon: Malenn turns, dropping the sack and drawing her bronze shortsword.
chris107: Quicker than the eye can see, his magical long sword is in his hand
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 18,
chris107: He sprints towrds her
Amalric: will Rey & co happen along about now?
Smon: Racing through the trees, Malenn behind him, Hakeem sees Jana struggling in the grip of two burly Altanian warriors, two more beside them.
chris107: "Release her DAWGS! Or DIE!"
Smon: GM: Following the trail west out of Bratanis, it's mid-morning when Rey's keen hearing picks up a faint scream on the air...
Smon: The largest of the Altanians, a massively scarred fellow, has just been tearing off Jana's white & gold robe. He turns at Hakeem's approach, laughing as he sees it's only two.
Smon: "She belongs to Yusan now, dog!" He hefts his great axe.
chris107: This makes H very cross
chris107: He will (as I assume he hasn't found a shield yet?) swing his new blade 2 handed.
chris107: "BONDORR!"
Smon: (There were dead hobgoblins with shields outside the Ruins of the Gorgon, let's say you took one)
chris107: yay!
chris107: 1H with shield then
Smon: Rey hears Hakeem's yell, some distance off.
Smon: One of Yusan's men keeps hold of Jana, while the other three close on Hakeem & Malenn.

Amalric: he'll try to catch her!
Smon: GM: Rey catches Jana, which gives the raider his chance to flee into the trees.
Amalric: without sticking her with his blades
chris107: A gentleman to the last....
Smon: (very gentlemanly)
Amalric: Rey will set her down gently and give chase
Smon: The last man, now facing Hakeem & Malenn, has a failure of nerve and bolts - one free attack each

Smon: Rey sets Jana down. "Thank you for rescuing me!" she breathes. "Those were Yusan's men!"
Smon: Malenn: "Tougher than the average bandit..." she grimaces, inspecting a shallow cut on her shoulder.
Smon: Malenn: "Hakeem, you're wounded - let me heal you."
Amalric: "You're welcome, my dear! All in the line of business..."
Smon: Malenn lays a hand on Hakeem's broad chest, and prays - 30 hp back

Amalric: "Let them take tales back to Yusan, I say."
Amalric: "Words of our deeds will surely give him pause for thought."
chris107: "Haha brother Rey! A heavy night of fencing was it?"
Smon: Malenn looks after the way they fled. "I have no desire to face a great host of them right now... But they may return, in greater numbers."
Smon: Jana: "Let us press on, for the Temple-Tomb of Belaras. I know this path."
chris107: "Aye lass. Let's get you and our child to safety."
chris107: Any treasure on them by the way Simon?
Oculus Orbus: the Pope is in America
Oculus Orbus: they say he loves dat barbeque
chris107: Gods vicar on Earth Pope?
Smon: GM: The two dead raiders seem to have a fair amount of gold on them...
Oculus Orbus: but it messes up his frock something fierce
Smon: /roll 8d6
Smon rolls 8d6 and gets: 1, 5, 2, 5, 5, 6, 2, 5, = 31
Smon: 31gp on the big guy
Smon: /roll 3d6
chris107: We'll grab a bit of that.
Smon rolls 3d6 and gets: 2, 5, 3, = 10
Oculus Orbus: Chris: I don't know, I'm an atheist
Smon: 10gp on the lackey.
chris107: Nice
Smon: GM: Bjornalf comes up with Rey's extensive harem, and you continue west.
Smon: The weather remains unseasonally dry, Mitra blessing you as you walk the Pilgrims' Trail.
Smon: West from Bratanis, the old Pilgrims' Trail leads 12 miles through the hills to the ancient Sky God Idol atop a hill, said to be a winged depiction of Zeus. Hundreds of feet high, the weathered, winged idol can be seen looming against the skyline.
Smon: It is currently early afternoon as you behold the vast weathered form, the wings spread wide, the face long obscured by age and decay.
chris107: "Malenn, is this where you choose to stay? or would you prefer to go to see Lady Media?"
Smon: Jana looks west, shielding her eyes against the afternoon sun. "24 miles from here to the Temple."
chris107: ah, sorry
Smon: Malenn: "We'll not make the Temple tonight - not with Rey's harem."
Amalric: "Better get a move on then. Wait, what?"
Amalric: "These ladies dont wear much, they should be pretty quick."
Amalric: "Although I can understand the reasoning, let them save their energies for the night..."
chris107: Let's rest near this great statue to Zeus? Surely no evil will dare come close here?
Smon: Malenn smiles. "Don't worry Rey, we'll not abandon them... but it's not their clothes I'm worried about..." She indicates the two Striker girls, sitting on a grassy boulder inspecting their blistered feet.
Amalric: "Oh dear! That is unfortunate! We shall look at that once we get this DM fiat/railroad out of the way..."
Amalric:
Smon: Jana shakes her head. "No Hakeem - the sanctity of this place has been defiled. Goblins now infest the subterranean halls at the foot of the idol."
Smon: OOC feel free to go somewhere else
Amalric: LOL not at all
chris107: "Your wisdom saves us again Lady Vex."
Smon: OOC This all started because I rolled Oriax on the random encounter table as you were heading for Dyson's Delve, not much railroading really.
chris107: Push on at a slower pace for the lay-dee. But as far as we may.
Smon: Malenn: "We should get as far as we can, then find a safe camp - no fire tonight lest Yusan's men follow us."
chris107: Oriax grrrr
Amalric: its all good in my book, it was just a joke
Amalric: although making joke at the DM's expense is never a good idea
Smon: GM: Leaving the Sky God Idol behind, you press on along the Pilgrim's Trail.
Smon: (If I were running an Adventure Path I'd be happy w the Railroad jokes, not so much when doing a sandbox!)
Smon: (I do run an AP & I still try to make it as open as possible, mind you)
Smon: brb
chris107: Hakeem chat's happily to malign about their child to be.
chris107: malign
Smon:
Amalric: LOL sign of things to come?
Amalric: naming the child Damien, are we?
chris107: apple spell check at its best there.
chris107: hehe
Smon: GM: The miles of rocky road wind through the Arcadian expanses of the high Ghinarian hills.
Smon: Here and there wild goats skitter from your path. Once you see a herd of great mastodon, grazing on a hill slope a long ways off
chris107: hakeem is amazed at the sight of the great beasts
Smon: Jana: "The great trunk-beasts are rarely seen these days..." Alicia giggles to herself. As evening falls and the sun is setting behind the western mountains, you find a sheltered hollow to camp.
Oculus Orbus: great breasts?
chris107: thanks orcs
Smon: Alicia: "I know one great trunk beast often seen..."
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 6,
Smon: Amazingly, a second rainless night in a row!
Amalric: "Well thank you my dear, very nice of you to put it that way..."
chris107: H will do his survival stuff to check if it's safe. Then a dinner of cold goat salad.
Oculus Orbus: halal!
Oculus Orbus: halal is goat meat
Oculus Orbus: just sayin
Smon: The familiar southern stars glitter overhead, dominated by the great constellation of Umanah.
chris107: H is half expecting Yussan's boys this evening. So he will set snares and other hindrances
Smon: Alinah the Moon Goddess shines down on you, almost full tonight.
chris107: stuff that will alert the camp to clodhopping Barbarians
Smon: And there is the constellation of Pasperus, Lord of the Southern Stars, rarely seen in the Wet Season.
chris107: Alinah? Wasn't that Moffet's favourite?
Smon: (sounds likely)
Amalric: nice romantic evening
chris107: Romantic rey?!
Smon: Rey snuggles with his harem while Hakeem sets traps and snares, scouting the locality.
Smon: /roll d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 17, (+4) = 21

Smon: Your night passes peacefully and next morning you travel onwards, the harem girls foot sore and weary from their exertions...
chris107: "malenn, would a little of your healing help the girls feet?"
Amalric: "Yes, if you could spare some, I would greatly appreciate it."
Smon: Malenn nods, and tends to the girls (1 hp per foot) to much grateful thanks.
chris107:
Smon: (You have all got back 2 rests worth of healing dice now, so Hakeem 8/8, Rey 6/7).
chris107: If we need to make a run for the temple we may just be glad of those 4HP.
Smon: 15 miles through the hills, a good day's march, and that afternoon you see the shining Temple-Tomb of Belaras atop its mount, the pilgrim tents scattered on the lower slopes.

Smon: It has rained here overnight, and you can see fresh Hyena tracks on the trail, but nothing attacks you as you make your way up towards the Temple.
Smon: Jana: "Here we will find rest, and sanctuary..." she seems happy.
Smon: Malenn looks a little uncertain. "Jana - Hakeem and I will be heading on from here, to Thusia."
chris107: Now H asks Malenn if this, rather than Lady Media is where she would choose to stay?
chris107: Thusia!
chris107: Hakeem is glad.
Smon: Malenn: "I have been considering it, Hakeem... I think Thusia is the best place."
Smon: brb
Oculus Orbus: time for a nap
Oculus Orbus: have the fun
8:18pm  2015-9-25 Oculus Orbus Has exited the room
Smon: OOC bit early but might be best to stop here.
Smon: Are you guys free Thursday next week?
chris107: Thursday next week should be okay with me
chris107: 1st October?
Smon: We'll see what Kjato's schedule is but pencil in Thursday.
chris107:
chris107: Glad Malenn wants to go to lady Media. She seemed to know something about the child.]
Smon: Hopefully cold will be better then.  Bill is reading me type BTW.
Smon: I'll post log.
chris107: Cheers Simon. Thanks for the game.
chris107: G'night Bill
Amalric: cheers
Amalric: good for Thurs
chris107: G'night Graham.
Smon: thx G.Should have more time Thursday.

5:59pm  2015-9-18 Smon Has entered the room
Smon: Hi Chris
chris107: Hi Simon
chris107: 101 HP!
chris107: First character ever with over a hundred HP.
Smon: & half dmg from physical attacks when raging, in effect it takes around 205-210 to put you down.
Smon: The AC 17 will help too.
chris107: Hehe
chris107: It will indeed.
6:03pm  2015-9-18 Amalric Has entered the room
chris107: Hi Graham
chris107: Kjato is over in the lounge
Smon: Hi G!
Amalric: evening Chris, Simon
chris107: Graham. you all ready to loot?
Amalric: and rape and pillage
chris107: Yeah but let's do the looting first.
Smon: Pilfer & engage in consensual relations
Amalric: got my 5e PHB today
chris107: yay!
chris107: It's a nice book apart from the weird Hobbit playing the lute picture
Amalric: had a cursory glance, looks neat
Smon: Yeah the hobbits are weird
Smon: Still better than 4e macho dreadlock hobbits I think.
chris107: mmmm never saw those.
Smon: (4e hobbits are kind of steroidal Jamaican 4' tall river bargees)
chris107: Wonder where Kjato is? I let him know the room was up...
6:09pm  2015-9-18 Kjato Ragfoot Has entered the room
chris107: (Ewwww)
Smon: Hi Kjato
chris107: here he is!
Kjato Ragfoot: Hello!
Amalric: howdy K
Smon: (I ignored the 4e depiction of hobbits, I'm glad they went more trad for 5e)
chris107: (I never played 4e  )
Smon: (I love my Epic Tier 4e game but it's very unlike regular D&D, it's really a different game with 4e branding)
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, you cannot play all of the bazillion rpgs out there.
Amalric: (once I read somewhere of Tieflings and Dragonborn I decided 4E was not for me)
Smon: (My epic 4e game - no dragonborn, there was a tiefling) -http://frloudwater.blogspot.co.uk/
Smon: http://frloudwater.blogspot.co.uk/
Kjato Ragfoot: (I greatly liked the Genasi)
Smon: Tieflings & Dragonborn are actually in the 5e PHB, but in the 'rare PC races' section with half-orcs.
Smon: (There was a cool Fire Genasi Flame Mage in my 4e game, Ashara of Akanul)
chris107: Wow! High level stuff
Amalric: where they belong
Kjato Ragfoot: (Genasi even became one of my favourite races, alongside with dwarfs)
Smon: My version of the Wilderlands technically has Dragonborn (mostly in Oricha, a bit south of where you are currently) - and I equate Tieflings with Wilderlands' Demonbrood.
Smon: Ever wonder where Oriax got his horns?
chris107: Oriax
Kjato Ragfoot: I always thought they were some kind of hat.
Smon: I expect on John Cleese they are hat-based.
chris107: Ask one of his many ex wives
chris107: Hakeem wants his head stuffed and mounted. As soon as Malenn and child are stashed safely away.
Amalric: John Cleese, or Oriax?
chris107:
Smon: GM: Your Status Rey -3 hp -3 hd Bjornalf -15 hp -7 hd Hakeem -12 hp -7 hd
chris107: Lord Vexes squeeze has got his hackles up too.
Smon: Hakeem has just gained a hd from levelling up, could spend it to recover more hp?
chris107: 89/101HP
chris107: I'll save it for now thanks Simon. For emergencies.
Amalric: who's Vex's squeeze again?
Smon: (Vex's squeeze - that whole Neo-Nerathi Genocide the Altanians thing can get one's hackles up, if you're Altani...)
chris107: (I new there was a good reason)
Smon: Chelarre Foxwood, Neo-Nerathi priestess of Erathis.
chris107: She's the one.
Smon: (They might let you work yourself to death for them in the slave pits if you're good)
Amalric: ah yes, her
chris107: Another one who's head will go over the fire place at Chez-Hakeem
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, at the moment it looks more like we have to sail to a land far, far away where no man has set foot before...
Smon: (In a previous Southlands campaign the Altanian PCs wiped out pretty much all the Neo-Nerathi moderate elements, leaving the Necromancers and the children of the ones they'd killed...)
Kjato Ragfoot: (I remember that part)
Smon: GM: So you have finished a Short Rest, Bjornalf has recovered spells.
Smon: Kjato does B have Det Magic?
Kjato Ragfoot: Smon: Yes, Eldritch Sight (Detect Magic at will),
Amalric: nice
chris107: very nice
Smon: OK the scrolls in the ivory & mahogany cases are magic. Ivory one is Abjuration, Ebony is Enchantment.
Smon: You've not opened the cases as yet.
chris107: Mmmm did I miss something?
chris107: I thought we left it before going into the room behind the secret door?
Smon: There were two intact scroll cases amidst the trashed books on the bookshelf.
Smon: You have not opened the secret door yet.
chris107: Ah! Thanks
Smon: You rested in the room with a dead Gorgon and smashed book case.
chris107: Thank heavens. I thought I'd missed something.
Smon: When searching the room Rey found a secret door on the east wall, that's where we stopped.
Amalric: search for traps?
Smon: Rey searches the door for traps...
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 17,
Smon: Pretty sure it's not trapped. The wall is slightly cooler than the rest of the chamber you're in.
Smon: Do you want to open the door?
Amalric: Rey tries opening it
chris107: H stands well to one side
Smon: The door grinds slowly open, as if unused for centuries, and the golden-dagger light falls on a chamber dominated by a great central pit, with narrow stairs cut into the stone descending along the periphery in a spiral.
chris107: "What treasures await us Rey?!"
Smon: There don't seem to be any other exits from this chamber.
Amalric: "Great. A fucking hole in the ground..."
chris107:
Kjato Ragfoot: We could return, there was still one unexplored staircase up?
chris107: "But the best treasures are always down Bjorn."
Amalric: down say I
Smon: There is some kind of red-brown-black gunk covering the bottom of the pit, 20' down. Here and there among the gunk, gold gleams, and you can make out the hilt of a sword rising from the gunk at the centre of the pit, a golden crown hanging from the crossguard.
Kjato Ragfoot: That is true, of course.
Kjato Ragfoot: (What is gunk?)
chris107: "And if that (he points at the Gorgon) was guarding it...."
chris107: slime and muck
Amalric: anyone have a rope?
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
Amalric: whats in a burglar's pack? because I have one
Amalric: (and dont say, "go check your brand new PHB"  )
Smon: I was about to give you a pg number
chris107:
Smon: It has ball bearings and a brass bell!
Smon: pg 151...
Smon: 10' of string!
Amalric: a bell?!
Smon: Rey rummages...
Amalric: what does a burglar want with a bell?!?
chris107: Hmmm H has an adventurers pack
Kjato Ragfoot: 50 foot hemp rope
chris107: guessing that has a rope in it?
Amalric: "COO-EE! HERE I COME! STEALING YOUR STUFF!!" *TINGTINGTING*
Smon: 5 candles, crowbar, hammer, 10 pitons...
Amalric: Rey ties a loop in the end of the rope and tries to loop it over the handle of the sword from up above
Smon: lantern & 2 oil flasks, rations, tinderbox
Kjato Ragfoot: I assume the ball is to be used as diversion.-
Smon: waterskin, 50' rope
Smon: Are you all three assembling on the edge of the pit, & Rey tries to loop rope over sword hilt?
chris107: H will pick up anything heavy that he can chuck at monsters trying to eat Rey down the pit.
Kjato Ragfoot: How far down is the sword?
Smon: The pit is 20' deep and wide, the sword in the middle, 10' from the edge.
Amalric: "Someone get ready to grab me..."
chris107: H preys to Bondarr to save the sword
Smon: Everyone make WIS (PER) checks, with Prof & WIS 9 I think you're all at +2
chris107: (and I suppose Rey)
Smon: d20
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 6, (+2) = 8
Amalric rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 5, (+2) = 7
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 14, (+2) = 16
Smon: Hakeem did it!
Amalric: saved by Hakeem
Smon: It was DC 16 so only just...
Kjato Ragfoot: Why do we get in? I can comfortably Mage Hand the crown and sword out with my cantrips
Amalric: now you tell us
chris107: Yay! And you call him dumb!
Smon: As Rey creates his loop and prepares to throw, and Bjornalf suggests using magic instead, Hakeem's keen Barbarian senses notice that the shadows around you are growing darker. And they're moving...
chris107: "BEWARE! MAGIC!"
Smon: Coalescing out of the darkness around & behind you are creatures of living shadow...
chris107: "Rey get the sword!"
Amalric: "Bjornalf! Can you magic the sword and crown out now? We may need it!"
Amalric: Rey will if Bjornalf doesnt
Smon: With Hakeem warning, you can all roll init now.
Kjato Ragfoot: Sure, but that will take time.
Kjato Ragfoot: About 3 rounds.

Amalric: (no alphabetical determination?! Bah!)
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 16, (+2) = 18

Smon: Hakeem Raged & made 2 atts, yup.
Smon: The mundane sword slices through the shadowm trailing ectoplasm. It doesn't seem badly affected.
chris107: "GRRRRRRRRRR!"
Smon: Rey loops the loop round the sword - you can yank it up fast and risk losing the crown, or slowly to get the crown too (will take 1 round)?
Smon: What is Bjornalf doing?
Kjato Ragfoot: I will light the Shadows up with Fairy Fire.
Smon: Might want to be quick as they'll have advtg attacking you while you're hauling
Amalric: Rey will risk getting both
chris107: can Hakeem grab Reys magical dagger without didturbing his fishing?
Amalric: can I evade while pulling?
Smon: (yes)
Smon: (to both questions)
chris107: H grabs Reys dagger and slashes at the horrid things (sorry G, will give it back  )
chris107:
Amalric: "be my guest!" says Rey
Kjato Ragfoot: (As long as you stand right next to me, you can also use my magic scimitar, but it will dissolve if you go further away than 5 feet)
Smon: Bjornalf the faerie fire covers an area, you can get 2 shadows, or get everyone inc yourself & friends
Kjato Ragfoot: Two shadows then, it would not be prudent to make it even easier for the shadows to hit us.
Smon: ok, they get DEX saves...

Amalric: a wolfshead?! my first char in Chris's game had a whole set of gear with a wolfshead emblazoned upon it
chris107: And Hakeem is hakeem Grey Wolf
chris107 Rolls 1d20+4x3 and gets:
17 (+4) = 21
4 (+4) = 8
20 (+4) = 24
Smon: Hakeem stabs, 2 hits
Amalric: retreat? I think you overestimate their chances!
Smon:
chris107: dagger damage is?
Smon: d4 base, STR 13 is +1, +3 rage?
Smon: +1 magic
Smon: You should be attacking at d20+5 inc +1 for magic
Smon: I see 2nd hit critted, so 2d4
chris107: Rage damage still +2
Smon: ok
Smon: d4+4 then, 2d4+4 crit
chris107 rolls 3d4+12 and gets: 2, 3, 2, (+12) = 19
Smon: With a whispering shriek, one of the Shadows disintegrates.
Smon: The dagger shines brighter.
chris107: Yay!
Amalric: can Rey strike with the new sword?
Smon: Yes, but it's a heavy Longsword, not a finesse weapon.
Amalric: Str is now 7
Smon: With STR 7 I wouldn't recommend it particularly.
Amalric: no, but it might be magic..?
Smon: It does seem carved with Altani battle runes...
chris107: "Rey run with the sword! take it to my boy!"
Smon: LOL
chris107: (Or give it to H to hack with  )
Kjato Ragfoot: Simply give it a try one one of the glowing shadows?
Amalric: well I could run, use some healing dice, come back, give it to H and take back the dagger...
Smon: (you can swap weapons next round)
chris107: a swap would be best I think?
Amalric: Rey will strike with it
Amalric: then swap next round
Amalric rolls 1d20 and gets: 20,
chris107:
Smon: LOL
Amalric:
chris107: Nice!
Amalric: not female shadows are they?
chris107: hehe
Smon: OK, you had it 2-handed so 2d10, +1 for magic, -1 for STR
Amalric: cometh the hour...
Amalric rolls 2d10 and gets: 3, 9, = 12
Smon: I see you are actually prof w longswords
Smon: Unfortunately you can't sneak attack w it
Amalric: next round
Smon: The shadow is wounded but still intact
Smon: Bjornalf?
Kjato Ragfoot: Can Bjornalf attack the shadow that Rey just weakened?
Smon: yes
Kjato Ragfoot: Then he will do so.
Smon: It's glowing so you have advtg too
Kjato Ragfoot Rolls 2d6+20x5 and gets:
1, 4 (+20) = 25
2, 5 (+20) = 27
1, 2 (+20) = 23
3, 4 (+20) = 27
2, 1 (+20) = 23
Smon:
Kjato Ragfoot: That was wrtong.
Smon: brb
chris107:
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 10, (+5) = 15
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 13, (+5) = 18
Amalric: +20 to attacks is never bad
Smon: hit
Smon: AC 12
Kjato Ragfoot: Yay!
chris107: Nice Kjato
Smon: Using magic sword?
Smon: Your Pact Blade?
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes, using my magic pact scimitar.
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d6+2 and gets: 5, (+2) = 7
Smon: OK, it disrupts the eldritch abomination, which also disintegrates...
Smon: Now only three remain.
chris107: Yay!
Smon: /roll 2d6
Smon rolls 2d6 and gets: 1, 5, = 6
Smon: Hating life, they press in, 1 vs each of you now.
Smon: vs Rey:
Smon: /roll d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 12, (+4) = 16
Smon: Alicia's blessing protects Rey
Smon: 1 vs Hakeem:
Smon: /roll d20+4
Amalric: these girls have their uses
chris107: phew
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 19, (+4) = 23
Amalric: amongst other...benefits
chris107: bugger
Amalric: unlucky
Smon: Hakeem is struck, shadows darken his eyes...
Smon: /roll 2d6+2
Smon rolls 2d6+2 and gets: 4, 6, (+2) = 12
Smon: /roll d4
Smon rolls 1d4 and gets: 1,
Smon: 6 dmg, -1 STR
Smon: vs Bjornalf:
chris107: 67/101 HP 12/18Str
Smon: /roll d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 18, (+4) = 22
Smon: hit
Smon: /roll 2d6+2
Smon rolls 2d6+2 and gets: 3, 3, (+2) = 8
Smon: 8 dmg
chris107: Cripes you're rolling well tonight Simon
Smon: /roll d4
Smon rolls 1d4 and gets: 2,
Smon: -2 STR
Kjato Ragfoot: (29/50 HP, 5/11 STR)
Smon: Bjornalf feels weak and cold, so cold...
Smon: Rey and Hakeem may now swap blades
chris107: This is going to be really close boys.
Amalric: and we do
Kjato Ragfoot: (Just like any other fight?)
Smon: Or you could Disengage and make a fighting withdrawal
Amalric: (yes, cant defeat a gorgon only to die at the hand of shadows!)
chris107: So +3 from level and +1 magic to hit?
Smon: yes
Smon: d10 2-handed
chris107 Rolls 1d20+3x3 and gets:
3 (+3) = 6
14 (+3) = 17
17 (+3) = 20
chris107 rolls 2d10+6 and gets: 5, 4, (+6) = 15
Smon: /roll d3
Smon rolls 1d3 and gets: 2
Smon: Rey, your one is the Faerie Fired one
Amalric rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 19, (+7) = 26
chris107: Go Graham!
chris107:
Amalric rolls 1d4 and gets: 4,
Smon: Hakeem dmg w STR 12 - +1 STR +2 rage +1 magic right? So d10+4?
Amalric rolls 3d6 and gets: 3, 1, 1, = 5
Amalric: oh bugger that roll
Smon: Rey rolls 2 attacks & takes best
chris107: Ah, I thought 12 was +-0
chris107: so an extra +2 dam
Amalric: do I get to roll damage twice and take the best?
Smon: By the power of math, Hakeem's shadow takes 2 more dmg and disintegrates
Smon: (no, just to-hit)
Amalric: (no need for another hit roll)
Smon: 20 is crit
chris107: YAY! "Praise Bondarr!"
Amalric: ah ok
Amalric: who rolled 20?
Smon: Rey does d4+3d6+5
chris107: not me
Kjato Ragfoot: It seems the Fairy Fire is dazzling Rey, because he constantly forgets to press his advantage.
Smon: (Graham please roll a d20!!!!!)
Amalric rolls 1d20 and gets: 6,
Amalric: as you wish
Smon: thank you
Smon: So no crit
Amalric: 14hp damage then
Amalric: ahhhhh sorry, I see
Smon:
Amalric: would have made a better roll had I thought
Smon: Rey's shadow is stabbed, trailing ectoplasm, but still active
Smon: Bjornalf can attack it
Smon: STR -6 rem
chris107: Good luck Bjorn!
Kjato Ragfoot: Finesse weapon, DEX-based.
Smon: finesse
chris107:
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 2d20+5 and gets: 20, 10, (+5) = 35
Smon: crit!
chris107: Nice!
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d6+2 and gets: 1, (+2) = 3
Smon: Only had 2 left, it bursts
Kjato Ragfoot: (What exactly does a crit do? I never rolled one before...)
Smon: roll 2 dice
Smon: so 2d6
chris107: double dice damage
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf the opportunistic shadow dispenser!
Amalric: (good a time as any!)
Smon: 2d6+2 in this case
chris107: YAY!
Smon: The last Shadow attacks Bjornalf
Smon: /roll d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 10, (+4) = 14
Smon: miss, just!
chris107: Phew!
chris107: Now let's finish this
Kjato Ragfoot: Haha! Now, face the wrather of my good friends Hakeem Shadowslayer and Rey Shadowpiercer.
Smon: B is pretty close to death as-is.
Smon: You all close on the last Shadow, twisted vestige of a time long past...
chris107:
chris107 Rolls 1d20+4x3 and gets:
15 (+4) = 19
17 (+4) = 21
1 (+4) = 5
chris107 rolls 2d10+8 and gets: 8, 3, (+8) = 19
chris107: I think that should do it boys!
Smon: Smon: B is pretty close to death as-is. Smon: You all close on the last Shadow, twisted vestige of a time long past...
Amalric: i should coco
Amalric: chris107 Rolls 1d20+4x3 and gets: 15 (+4) = 19 17 (+4) = 21 1 (+4) = 5 7:34pm 2015-9-18 Smon Has exited the room chris107 rolls 2d10+8 and gets: 8, 3, (+8) = 19 7:34pm 2015-9-18 Smon Has entered the room
chris107: chris107 rolls 2d10+8 and gets: 8, 3, (+8) = 19
Smon: Its face distorts as it's struck, for a moment you see what looks like a young elf maiden, beautiful features contorted in pain and fear...
chris107: Hakeem is merciless
chris107: "Die BITCH!"
Smon: Then it evaporates.
Amalric: "Poor lass."
Kjato Ragfoot: Damn it. Rey could have seduced her.
chris107: I think that's as close to a TPK as we have been for a long time.
chris107: 5e Shadows are NASTY!
Kjato Ragfoot: Since the time with the ghouls and the zombies.
chris107: that -1d4 strength soon adds up.
Smon: As the last Shadow fades, Rey seems to glimpse the elf maid smile at him, free at last from her long torment - the darkness in the room grows lighter...
chris107: Yeah, that's right Kjato.
chris107: hakeem laughs out loud at the strangness and beauty of life
chris107: "We live my friends!"
Smon:
Amalric: "We have performed a great good this day."
Amalric: "And well done both of you, heroic efforts!"
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf tries a energic jig, but quickly feels tired.
chris107: He raises the wolf hilted sword and swears "Bondarr the victories of this blade belong to you!"
Kjato Ragfoot: He sits down and gets his brandy bottle out, his cure for all unfathomable ailments.
chris107: "brandy! Bjorn you are a true hero!"
Smon: You look around - etchings on the walls indicate this pit was once a sacrificial chamber, orcs are shown casting elf captives into the pit, where something vast and amorphous consumes them.
chris107: So we got a sword and a crown?
Smon: The gold crown you snagged is delicate workmanship - elfin?
Amalric: Bjornalf detect magic on the crown?
chris107: Was anything else on show? I can'yt remember after all the excitment.
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf silently offers Hakeem the bottle.
Kjato Ragfoot: Is any of the stuff magic?
chris107: H draws deeply, wipes his lips and thanks Bjornalf. He passes the bottle to Rey with a grin.
Smon: It does not radiate magic, but must be worth over a thousand gold - more perhaps to the right buyer.
chris107:
Amalric: Rey waits for his turn of the brandy
Amalric: hoping its not slow-acting poison
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, hopefully Hakeem left some for you. It was not that big a bottle.
chris107: H will always mae sure his friends are well looked after.
Kjato Ragfoot: It is a slow-acting poison. Slowly destroying your liver and your brain.
chris107:
Smon: Gold glints here and there embedded among the foul gunk at the bottom of the pit - coins, and bits of jewelry.
chris107: Mmmmm something amorphous...
Amalric: "I'm not sure we want to dig down there."
chris107: Can we lower some ration sausages down on the rope?
Amalric: "Got any fire spells Bjornalf? That might be a living blob."
chris107: Poison would be better. Not melt the gold
chris107: oops sorry that was OOC
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, with all the stabbing I hardly cast any spells. I should be able to try BLIGHTing or SHATTERing it.
Amalric: "We just drank the brandy!"
Kjato Ragfoot: Blighting would probably be better, it seems rather full of water.
Smon: As Hakeem attunes to the longsword, he can tell it has a purpose, to destroy Lycanthropes, Werewolves and other such abominations (Lycanthrope bane, +3d6 vs lycanthropes)
Amalric: nice!
Amalric: and yes Blight it Bjornalf
chris107:
Amalric: thats your new name
Kjato Ragfoot: (Now, we just need to turn Oriax into a lycanthrophe and the day is saved!)
Amalric: BLIGHT IT BJORNALF
chris107: OOC any objections to H keeping the magical long sword for now?
Amalric: maybe he is? haven't seen him at night!
Amalric: go ahead Chris
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf does not mind Hakeem keeping the sword, it is his schtick after all.
chris107: Thanks guys
Smon: Bjornalf casts Blight onto the red-black-brown gunge in the pit?
Kjato Ragfoot: The crown on the other hand would fit very well for king Bjornalf. I just need the proper realm for that crown.
Amalric: but the next +6 rapier is mine
chris107: @ DM could H use the long sword one handed and use a shield and still keep his unarmoured benefits?
Smon: yes
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes, Bjornalf will cast blight on the red-black-brown gunge.
chris107: No problem on either score guys
Smon: AC 19 not bad for a guy in a loincloth
Amalric: channeling Conan
chris107: hehe
Smon: Bjornalf casts Blight, Necrotic energy washes over the pit...
Smon: There's not much visible effect, perhaps more black and less red among the gunk.
chris107: Mmmm
chris107: H is baffled by magic
Kjato Ragfoot: That has not been very effective.
chris107: "Tie up a rope and I'll go grab the gold after a bit of a rest."
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, I can always try to mage hand some gold and jewellery out.
chris107: "Even better Bjornalf!"
Amalric: that would be better
Kjato Ragfoot: It is boring, but I can do that all day if I have to.
chris107: Hakeem does a rather exhausted but enthusiastic barbarian gold dance.
Amalric: can Rey do healing dice right now?
Smon: GM: Over the next hour Rey & Hakeem rest while Bjornalf levitates up coins and jewelry out of the foul (now very dry) sludge.
Smon: Rey was already out of hd.
Amalric: ah excellent
chris107: one dice left so he will recover his Berserk + a dice
chris107 rolls 1d12+5 and gets: 4, (+5) = 9
Smon: oh sorry, you're right G]
Smon: Rey had 4 left
chris107: 76/101 HP
Amalric: thought I was done 3 healing dice? don't I have 7?
Amalric:  no probs
Amalric: will use 3
Smon: Got confused w the other 2
Amalric rolls 3d8 and gets: 3, 3, 6, = 12
Amalric: not the best rolls tonight, apart from a couple of very nice hits!
Smon: +6 for CON, 18 hp back
Kjato Ragfoot: Curious as he is, Bjornalf will throw some of the undead gorgon meat down into the gunk to see what happens.
Smon: The undead gorgon meat hits the gunk. After a little while it turns black.
chris107: hakeem thanks his lucky stars that he didn't go down.
Smon: Rey is down 7 hp, Hakeem down 25, Bjornalf down 33.
Smon: (Hakeem might have made the CON save to not die)
chris107:
Smon: By the time the others are finished resting, Bjornalf has cleared the pit and has a pile of 3000gp worth of coin & jewelry to add to the crown (ca 1200gp).
Kjato Ragfoot: 3000 gp???
chris107: Yay!
Kjato Ragfoot: Wow. I want to earn that much per hour on my day job...
chris107: Hakeem can see it going on school fees and nappies all ready
Smon:
Smon: ooc Tell me about it!
chris107:
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 6,
Smon: heh
Smon: /roll d4
Smon rolls 1d4 and gets: 4,
Smon: heh
Smon: uh oj
chris107: Oh no?!
Smon: PER checks please
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 2, (+2) = 4
Smon: Worst possible result on the check there...
chris107:
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 18, (+5) = 23
Smon:
chris107: Has any strength returned?
chris107: Nice roll Kjato
Smon: Your strength is returning but you still feel a little shaky. Bjornalf turns from collecting the last gp to see that the chamber is darkening again, he senses that more Shadows are beginning to manifest...
chris107: Bugger!
Smon: Hakeem is oblivious and Rey is so oblivious he's not rolled.
Amalric: lets get the heck out of Dodge
Kjato Ragfoot: Let's take out loot and make a run for it.
chris107: hakeem uses his last rage if he can
Smon: Leave or fight?
Amalric rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 12, (+3) = 15
chris107: or we could run ?
Amalric: run
Kjato Ragfoot: Leave - we got all the treasure and are badly hurt.
Amalric: i've had it with shadows
chris107: How many shadows?
chris107: Okay RUN!
Smon: Do you want to wait to see? You'll have to roll init right after I roll the # appearing die.
Amalric: we have loot, put the souls/spirits of elf maidens to rest, killed some BBEGs
Amalric: oh go on then
chris107: RUN!
Smon: GM: You leave the Shadow chamber before more Shadows can fully manifest.
Amalric: Rey longers in the archway
chris107: Yup we have to risk the horrid arch way again I guess but better than Shadows
Smon: Hakeem & Bjornalf exit, Rey lingers in the archway.
Smon: Rey is waiting where the Shadows can get him?
Amalric: no!
chris107: "Rey!"
Smon: Do you close the secret door behind you?
chris107: Back up the stairs and through the mental arch to our loved ones (or concubines)
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes. Close as many doors between us and shadows as possible.
Amalric: yes
chris107: Yes
Smon: GM: OK, you head back up the spiral stairway, your strength returning (full STR).
Amalric: do they emerge if the secret door is shut?
Amalric: were they coming from there?
chris107: 2 mins guys need a pee
Smon: They don't seem to be following you.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Amalric: did we have anything left to do in the gorgon room?
Kjato Ragfoot: Not as far as I remember.
Amalric: we have the scrolls and the stuff behind the secret door
Smon: (You cleared it). Avoiding meeting any feral gnomes or other critters, you head up , and up, until you at last reach the entrance.
Kjato Ragfoot: Since time, when we pass, we should try saying "gorgon"?
Smon: The women are still waiting beyond the archway, Malene smiles with relief to see Hakeem alive. Alicia: "Rey!" Lucy: "Rey!" 6-8 others: "Rey!"
Amalric:  LOL
Smon: (I added Alli to your list BTW!)
chris107:
Kjato Ragfoot: (When do I get my payment for Alli, btw?)
Amalric: happy days - nice birthday present for tomorrow
chris107: Your birthday tomorrow Graham?
Amalric: you've had it! i must have given you that 50 gold at least twice
Amalric: yes, 48 years young tomorrow
Smon: Congrats!
chris107: Congratulations!
Amalric: cheers
Kjato Ragfoot: Congratulations!
Smon: (This is the only place I play D&D where I'm the young 'un, is nice)
Amalric: thanks all! highlight will be...
Amalric: this game tonight!
Amalric: all downhill from here
chris107: It gets better Graham. 50 onwards is OSSM!
Amalric: i'll drink to that!
Smon:
chris107: "Let us away with our treasures and get to the sanctuary of Mitre for malenn and our child!"
Amalric: a mere babe in arms, Simon!
Kjato Ragfoot: For my thirtieth birthday, I got a candle saying "you are not allowed to cry before you turn 100".,
Smon: I'll just get a Balvenie in Graham's honour, been on Coke Zero all night for the GMing
Amalric: thats a big candle
Smon: Bjornalf is saying Gorgon & passing the arch?
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes.
chris107: And may you see 100 Kjato!
Smon: He has 17 hp so if it doesn't work he could be at -3...
chris107:
Kjato Ragfoot: Didn't I have 29 just moments ago?
Kjato Ragfoot: That is, after the fight with the shadows?
8:13pm  2015-9-18 roadlesstraveled Has exited the room
Amalric: I forgot he was here
Smon: B was down 33 and has 50 at max, so 17.
chris107: Seems like a nice chap. Bookshop owner from Rhode Island
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah. I calculated it wrongly.
Amalric: really? that's nice, would love to do that...if money was no object
Smon: Bjornalf says "Gorgon" and steps through the arch - unscathed!
Smon:
Smon: (Took you long enough to get it!)
Kjato Ragfoot: Yay!
chris107: Yay!
Amalric: remember a second-hand bookshop right on the harbour in Padstow, there about 9 years ago - great place
chris107: We all follow suit then?
Amalric: full of maps and books old and new, could have spent weeks in there
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf is rather surprised he still lives.
chris107: padstow is
Smon: Hakeem & Rey do the same and pass through, also un-blasted.
chris107: Good food
Amalric: Rey and H follow suit
Smon: Malenn runs forward and embraces Hakeem with a big kiss.
chris107: H gives malenn a big hug!
Amalric: Rey lines his harem up, but decides on a group hug instead, much more fun
Smon: There is some jostling as to who will embrace Rey first... Alicia glares daggers at Lucy, who steps back not fancying a Magic Missile, Alicia steps forward.
chris107: hehe
Smon: Alicia: "Welcome, beloved Master! I knew you'd make it!" She embraces Rey then the others join in.
Smon: per his requirements.
Amalric: have to watch that one
Smon: Jana Vex watches all this. "The rain has stopped - we should make for Bratanis and my cousin. She can aid us on our journey."
chris107: yup, clingy
Amalric: of course, Rey will marry a noble woman and move up in the world, and this lot will remain his harem - but they don't know that
Amalric: no-one wants a clingy witch
chris107: "Agreed lady Vex>"
Kjato Ragfoot: Take care she does not turn all Medea on you!
Smon: GM: You emerge from the cliffside, blinking in the afternoon sunlight, and head downhill through rain-dripping forest, the water sparkling in the sunlight.
chris107: (H still thinks Lady Meda would be a safer bet but he trusts Malenn's instincts and faith in her God)
Smon: Half an hour or so later you emerge onto the meadowlands along the southern bank of the Thrace river, and can follow it upstream to where the village of Bratanis commands a stone bridge over the river.
Kjato Ragfoot: If I remember correctly you wanted to give some kind of gift to ensure Malenn's wellbeing - the crown might be a good gift for that.
Kjato Ragfoot: If you are willing to forego the rest of the treasure, which would then be split between Rey and Bjornalf.
chris107: Hakeem is astounded by his friends generosity
Amalric: aye whatever
chris107: H requires only a pouch full of beer coins and his new sword to be happy. Perhaps enough for a shield too
Kjato Ragfoot: It is much easier to spent coins and jewels than it is spending crowns.
Smon: GM: Dusk is falling as you cross the old stone bridge and approach the village through fields. A few shepherds and peasants watch as you near the gate.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 2,
Amalric: we're ah...heading for Bratanis...?
Smon: There is a tense air about the place. Two armoured Ghinarian warriors stand at the gate, watching your approach they lean on long spears.
chris107: It's what Malenn and Lady Vex want.
chris107: H would prefer Lady Meda's place with the Amazons
Smon: Bratanis is on the way to Thusia (Lady Meda) and the Mitra Temple-Tomb of Belaras.
Amalric: Rey will find himself with some explaining to do
Amalric: although I think he has been back here since he stole Aeschela's necklace
Amalric:
Smon: See maps here - http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/the-ghinarian-hills-campaign-labyrinth.html
Smon: >>Bratanis is situated on a low rise overlooking the valley of the Thrace River. An ancient stone bridge crosses the river here. West from Bratanis the old Pilgrims' Trail runs towards the Sky God Idol, and thence on to the Temple-Tomb of Belaras.<<
chris107: Got it, thanks. I was getting Bratanis and Beleras mixed up
Smon: Jana Vex steps forward to speak to you three: "I should speak to these guards, they serve my cousin Lady Aschela - I can smooth over any issue with Lord Reynard..."
chris107: H will talk with M about his thought s on Lady meda during the wee small hours.
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf won't object to Janas idea.
Smon: The guards' face are hidden in their close Ghinoran helms as they watch your approach.
Amalric: "What issue? She doesn't KNOW I took it, can only suspect..."
Smon: Jana: "Hail, men of Bratanis! I am Jana Vex of Selatine, I am come to visit my cousin, your Lady..."
Smon: The guards shift slightly. Then one speaks: "Know, Jana Vex, that your cousin no longer rules here. Bratanis has a new Lord."
Amalric: "Oh balls, that dick is in charge..."
Kjato Ragfoot: Who?
Smon: GM Was that sotto voce?
Amalric: the guard captain
Amalric: if that means under his breath, then yes
Kjato Ragfoot: The guard captain from the cult?
Smon: The guard speaks again: "Aeschela has been found guilty of conspiring with Yusan - Ruggio is now Lord. He will wish to confer with you, Lord Reynard."
Amalric: no, from Bratanis
Amalric: yes, him
Smon: Jana Vex blanches. "Ruggio? What has befallen my cousin?!"
Amalric: "Of course! I look forward to congratulating him on his new position."
Smon: The guards shift uneasily. "She lives, Lady Vex..."
chris107: Mmm the name rings a bell
Smon: Jana reddens - Ruggio's lust for Aeschela was well known.
Amalric: he was spoiling to take over when Lance was around here
Amalric: and likely when Rey was here, before he started play
Smon: The guards step back to allow your party entrance.
Smon: (yes)
Smon: Rey would know the situation.
chris107: Mmmmm Hakeem has a bad feeling about this.
Smon: Guard: "I shall have your slaves stabled, Lord Reynard. You and your companions, come with me..."
Amalric: If we off Ruggio we could put Aeschela back in charge
Amalric: he says quietly for H and B when he gets the chance
chris107: We could but we are in poor fettle.
Amalric: once we are rested
Amalric: just play along for now
Smon: GM: Rey's harem are sent to the adjacent stable block, while Rey, Hakeem, Bjornalf, Jana and Malenn are invited to attend upon the Lord of Bratanis.
chris107: H nods quietly.
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf sees no real reason to do so, he knows neither of the two.
Smon: Malenn whispers: "I don't know these people, but I don't like it either..."
chris107: "Let us beware my love. Keep your eyes wide. Do you have healing?"
Smon: GM: Two more guards stand outside the Lord's Hall. The four men usher you inside the long hall, flanked by trestle tables at which a couple dozen courtiers enjoy their evening meal. At the far end, the lean form of Lord Ruggio lounges on the throne of Bratanis. Chained at his feet lies the naked form of a concubine - Aeschela, the former Lady.
Smon: GM Malenn nods.
Kjato Ragfoot: (Hmm. Aeschela and Ruggio seem into bondage)
Smon: OOC we can say Jana Vex cast some clws on you on the way if you like?
Amalric: not sure she has a choice
chris107: @ GM. how many guards do we see?
Kjato Ragfoot: I would not mind that.
chris107: And how is the damage to our strength doing?
Smon: You are back to full str
Amalric: back to full wasn't it
Smon: 1 clw on Rey:
Smon: /roll d8+2
Smon rolls 1d8+2 and gets: 5, (+2) = 7
Smon: full hp
chris107: H is minded to slay the usurper Ruggio
Smon: 3 clw on Hakeem:
Smon: /roll 3d8+6
Smon rolls 3d8+6 and gets: 8, 7, 6, (+6) = 27
chris107: but whispers this only to Malenn for her thoughts. She is far wiser than he.
Smon: Hakeem also full hp, nice roll.
Amalric: lets see what Ruggio has to say for himself
chris107: 101/101 HP
Smon: 2 2nd level cures on Bjornalf:
Smon: /roll 4d8+4
Smon rolls 4d8+4 and gets: 4, 1, 2, 6, (+4) = 17
Smon: Bjornalf still down 16 hp.
chris107: H grips the wolf headed hilt of his new sword and preys to Bondorr for guidence.
Kjato Ragfoot: 34/50
Smon: Lord Ruggio - http://cdn03.cdn.justjared.com/wp-content/uploads/headlines/2010/05/shirtless-henry-cavill.jpg
chris107: H's temper is building seeing Ruggio with the rightful lady at his feet.
Kjato Ragfoot: (Bondorr answers: Take your sword to sacrifice your enemies on my behalf)
Smon: Aeschela w clothes - https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDqSwnDROI8uG6QsjbVWhjfS53Ifk4WvqUkL0-isPlqEpN5HMt5tR7PfHASJvYzPJczlqbYG4hqGzFnDImxlJI-k5nouevIuDHFJtfy9rlFzOuQHwmxCW0nWepB0JgnxpBABk76VWgymk/s320/Aeschela,+Lady+of+Bratanis.jpg
chris107: Ah yes I recognise the picture from the blog.
Smon: Ruggio smiles, beckoning you all in. "Welcome, Lord Reynard! Just the man! You heard the news?"
Amalric: stuck in my mind for some reason...
Amalric: "Lord Ruggio! My congratulations! Is this news your own, or another?"
chris107: H discreetly loosens his sword
Smon: Reynard stands and moves forward to greet Rey by the central firepit, shaking his hand in honoured greeting.
chris107: *whispers "Malenn beware, I sense something is wrong..."
Smon: "Of Aeschela's treachery! Conspiring with that scum Yusan.... I could endure it no longer! Now that I, by the grace of the gods and the will of the people, am Lord of Bratanis, be assured we shall join the Lords' Alliance against Yusan forthwith!"
Amalric: "An excellent notion! We can only be stonger together!"
Smon: Jana looks to Aeschela, Jana's face reddening in anger.
Amalric: if Rey can see Aeschela without Ruggio or the guards seeing him, he gives her a reassuring wink
chris107: (OOC Yusan is a sword knight of Bondarr, right?)
Smon: Ruggio grins at Rey. "Aye! It is time we took the fight to Yusan!"
Smon: (yes)
Smon: (said to wield the Sword of Bondorr itself)
chris107: (Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww  )
Smon: /roll d20+7
Smon rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 14, (+7) = 21
Smon: Rey catches Aeschela's eye (she doesn't look happy) and gives her a wink.
Smon: Jana Vex: "Ruggio - Lord Ruggio! It is not right you treat my cousin so!"
chris107: Hakeem grunts his approval
Smon: Ruggio looks over at Jana, waves his hand dismissively. "Your brother exile you again?"
Smon: Jana grits her teeth, glaring daggers at Ruggio. "No."
Smon: Malenn whispers to Hakeem: "This Ruggio wants to join the Lords' Alliance? They are the good ones, yes?"
Smon: Ruggio laughs. "Well, Jana Vex, in Bratanis the old virtues are now restored - one of which is that women remain silent in the presence of Men."
Amalric: yes
chris107: H whispers back - "I know nothing of politics my love but I know the way he treats this woman and lady Vex is wrong. He does not strike me as a good man."
Smon: Malenn nods to Hakeem.
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf simply looks around, trying to take the surroundings in.
chris107: "RUGGIO! Why do you treat this woman so?"
chris107: "What has she done to deserve such treatment?"
Smon: Ruggio turns to Hakeem, puzzled. "By right of conquest. Rather than execute her, I am merciful. She is a traitor - she conspired with Yusan, sent him tribute."
chris107: "Half of this country sends tribute to Yusan or oriax in one way or another. can you not treat her with dignity? Like a man?"
Smon: Bjornalf sees the courtiers - mostly old men and women - are tense and nervous, watching the debate. The guards around the edges of the Hall also seem tense.
Smon: Ruggio glares at Hakeem. "Like an Altanian, you mean? Witch-ridden? We are Men here - Men of Ghinor!"
Smon: (OOC Ghinarians are like ancient Greeks - not big on equality)
chris107: "Haha!"
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf will try to overhear what the old people are whispering to each other, or otherwise try to draw out their general feelings over some small talk.
Smon: An old man coughs, speaks up. "Lord Ruggio, please have a care. That is Hakeem, the Slayer..."
chris107: "Look elsewhere little man. meet my eye and DIE!"
9:01pm  2015-9-18 Oculus Orbus Has entered the room
Oculus Orbus: adventure!
Smon: Hi Oc
chris107: Hi Ovccles
Oculus Orbus: howdy howdy
Amalric: O_O
Oculus Orbus: Graham
Amalric: gosh I was just reading about the Lords Alliance, and now H is about to kill Ruggio!
chris107: "Release the lady from her bondage or face my wrath like a man."
Smon: Intimidate check for Hakeem, roll me a d20
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets: 1,
chris107: oops
Amalric: (added my 0- level skills to my character, Occles)
Smon: Ruggion laughs
Oculus Orbus: ah, great. are you happy with him?
chris107: One rage left for the day, guess I'm going to need it now
Kjato Ragfoot: STOP THIS NONESENSE!
Smon: Ruggio: "We'll need you alive for the battle with Yusan, Hakeem the Slayer. Begone from my Hall, and do not return. Take your women with you."
Amalric: (happy enough! will put the car driving cutlass-wielding electrician/marine to some use
Oculus Orbus: (lol)
Amalric: go on Chris, lets down the fecker
chris107: hakeem spits.
Smon: Bjornalf make Intimidate roll d20
Kjato Ragfoot: Yusan is strong enough without the Lord's Alliance infighting.
Smon: Or Diplomacy, same thing
Amalric: Aeschela was for the Alliance, FWIW
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, I am more for diplomacy.
chris107: "This hall is not yours Usurper. I challange you to prove otherwise."
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20 and gets: 12,
Smon: (OOC Aeschela was non-committal to the Alliance, possibly due to Yusan holding her sister)
Kjato Ragfoot: That is a 16 (+4 from CHA)
chris107: H grips the wolf headed sword and asks Malenn for her shield.
Amalric: (oh right, well whatever  )
Smon: +3 Prof - 19, success
Kjato Ragfoot: I will also use my fey presence to make sure I have everyones attention (if that is possible)
Smon: Ruggio nods to Bjornalf. "You speak words of wisdom, friend, but the Altanian wishes to see blood spilt."
Amalric: (oh no, just read the bit where she had been paying Yusan! oops my bad)
Smon: The guards move forward to circle you, spears lowered - you count eight of them, all armoured.
Amalric: (still dont like him)
chris107: OOC Advice boys?
Kjato Ragfoot: I know. It is Hakeem the Slayer after all, it is his fate to spill blood.
chris107: "Away Jackles!"
Kjato Ragfoot: Still, he is a human being and can choose whose blood to spill.
chris107: "Lower not your spears to the slayer."
Smon: Ruggio turns to Rey: "Can you talk sense to this mad dog, or must we fight here, while Yusan laughs?"
Kjato Ragfoot: Even if you and him cannot be friends, be at least proper guest and host as befits your stations.
Amalric: i'm not sure we can take on 8 guards and Ruggio
Amalric: if we'd jumped him first, then maybe
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf will turn to Hakeem: A fight here won't do any good.
Kjato Ragfoot: It will only strengthen Yusan and endanger the woman you want to save.
chris107: "For your sake Bjornalf, for the sake of our friendship. I let this dog live. My wife and I will not stay here. We move on now."
Kjato Ragfoot: I am sure, Lord Ruggio is willing to negotiate a better treatment for Aeschea given the right compensation.
Amalric: "We have had a tiring few days, and Hakeem slew a great gorgon we found in a cave. Our spirits are worn."
Amalric: "Perhaps some rest and supper might help sooth the situation? Even if Hakeem wishes to stay in the stable."
chris107: H makes to leave with Malenn. "lady Janna?"
Smon: Jana spits on the floor beside where Hakeem gobbed, and nods to Hakeem. "Aye."
Smon: Malenn: "Let's go."
chris107: (H, with his low wisdom can not think badly of Yusan, a Sword Knight of Bondorr. Not when the likes of Foxwood, Oriax and other scum seem to be pulling the strings around here.)
Smon: Ruggio: "Rey, you and your Vizier (Bjornalf) are welcome to stay, as honoured guests."
Kjato Ragfoot: (Cool, I got promoted!)
Smon: (Yusan did rape and murder the sacred Defender of his tribe, mind you!)
chris107: H, M & J will push on towards the temple tomb.
chris107: (hehe, well played Kjato by the way  )
Kjato Ragfoot: (Thanks!)
chris107: (See you guys there?)
chris107: (If we make it  )
Smon: Hakeem, Malenn and Jana Vex step outside, into the gathering dark. Two soldiers follow them at a wary distance - Hakeem's reputation has spread since he bested the pirate chief Sarene in that duel.
Smon: Jana: "Let us begone - this place smells foul."
chris107: H agrees
chris107: he makes sure M is okay with this.
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf will leave the decision to Rey, as he does not with to be seen commanding his "lord".
Smon: Inside the Hall, the mood relaxes a little as soon as Hakeem is out the door. Ruggio sighs and turns to Rey, chuckling. "That is a wild one! I thought he'd go for me, for sure! How do you keep such a beast under control?"
Smon: Outside, H & co near the gate. Malenn sighs. "We're nearly out of rations - those girls of Rey's sure eat a lot... perhaps we can hunt something, or fish from the river?"
Amalric: (sorry just popped upstairs a sec)
Smon: OOC will finish shortly.
chris107: "Of course, you are eating for two after all." How long to get to the Temple/Tomb?
Amalric: "Oh, just let him kill a few things and give him some beer and he's happy."
Amalric: "You waited too long with the beer, I'm afraid. Easy mistake to make."
chris107: hehe
Amalric: "He'll be much better behaved next time we come this way, I promise."
Smon: Ruggio rubs his forehead. "If I never see him again, it'll be soon enough for me."
Amalric: "He is a powerful warrior, a good man. But he's a barbarian, easily confused."
Smon: Outside the guards open the gate and Hakeem & co walk out. Jana: "The Pilgrims' Trail leads from here to the Temple - half a day to the Sky God Idol, then another full day to the Temple-Tomb of Belaras."
Smon: Malenn: "We can go a little hungry that long, I guess..."
Smon: Ruggio nods: "Come friends, eat with me." He gestures to seats by his right hand for Rey & Bjornalf.
chris107: "Then I'd best catch us a rabbit or two eh?" Hakeem grins widely. Happy to be out of the fettid hall.
Amalric: "Excellent! Many thanks, my lord. Tuck in, Vizier..."
Smon: Ruggio: "I know Altanians all too well - I've fought those who follow Yusan, who would destroy us...I hear the Nerathi want them all gone."
Kjato Ragfoot: Gladly, mylord.
Kjato Ragfoot: To Rey: "The Nerathie want everyone gone or enslaved."
Kjato Ragfoot: "J
Amalric: "Indeed."
Smon: Vex nods to Bjornalf. "Aye, and the Nerathi seem as witch-ridden as the Altanians, by all accounts. I hear Lord Vex of Selatine has a Nerathi witch riding him?"
Amalric: Rey has more interest in a full stomach and a warm bed than most anything else
Smon: The roast mutton of Ruggio's hall is quite excellent.
Amalric: "He does. He is not as simple as his sister, few are, but he seems to be under a spell..."
Smon: As is the red wine.
Kjato Ragfoot: "I heard those rumours, but never have witnessed their truthfulness"
Smon: Ruggio nods to Rey, munching his lamb, grease running down his lean chin. "Aye."
Kjato Ragfoot: And even though he counsels this Nerathi regularly, it seems he does not fully trust her.
Kjato Ragfoot: I am not quite sure what to make of her.
Amalric: "Keeping his enemies close, perhaps?"
Smon: Ruggio takes a drink. "It seems to me the Nerathi may be a useful tool - but like fire, they could burn us. But we need them - Yusan will soon march north. And he has Wizards, now..."
Amalric: "I could never counsel such activity..."
Amalric: *COUGH*
Smon: Ruggio laughs. "Of course not, Lord Reynard. Your chaste and honourable demeanour is legendary!"
Amalric: "He does? That will be a problem."
chris107:
Kjato Ragfoot: The question is: Will we be able to contain the Nerathi after we defeated Yusan - or will they be able to contain us?
Smon: Ruggio: "Wizards, aye. He captured one of the Unseen Conclave, not long ago. She betrayed their location to him. Now they serve him, if not willingly. He will have Magic when he comes north this time..."
Smon: Ruggio nods to Bjornalf. "I hear the Nerathi are Necromancers - no better than Yusan, perhaps. At least he kills honestly!"
Kjato Ragfoot: Necromancers and worse, according to what I heard. They deal not only in death but also in powers the gods shy away from.
Amalric: "But first, Yusan...then the Necromancers."
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes. We need to get those Conclave on our side, we will need their help.
Amalric: "Absolutely."
Smon: Ruggio nods: "No good comes over the mountains from Neo-Nerath. But certainly for Bratanis, Yusan is the immediate threat, as Lord Reynard wisely says. The villages south of here are all under his sway. Most likely he will take this road, and the battle for Ghinarian freedom will be fought here..."
Amalric: "I will have to meet with Lord Vilius and discuss this."
Smon: Ruggio shrugs. "They are the Unseen Conclave. Yusan hunted them many years, before he got lucky."
Smon: "I doubt if we can locate them, unless we too capture one who knows where they hide."
Smon: Ruggio: "Aye, tell Lord Vilius. And tell him Bratanis will stand with the Alliance."
Kjato Ragfoot: Or ... we free the one captured.
chris107: (Cunning Kjato, cunning  )
Smon: Ruggio nods. "A slaver called Roth has seen her, at Yusan's Den. He is at the Inn here in Bratanis if you wish to question him."
Amalric: "And she shows us where they are - they help us, we help them."
Amalric: "That would be most interesting."
Kjato Ragfoot: The soap passes from hand to hand, as we Skandiks say.
Smon: OOC Will finish up now.
chris107:
Kjato Ragfoot: My lord, if you agree, I would like to speak to that merchant?
chris107: Nice session guys! Thanks Simon
Smon: OOC Fun game guys, well done vs shadows. Should be a big XP session!
Kjato Ragfoot: All right. Was a good game, all in all.
Smon: Ruggio nods to Bjornalf - "Certainly."
Smon: Will post log.
Amalric: "We both should, Vizier"
chris107: Hakeem is only been Hakeem
Smon:
Amalric: and thanks Simon, good stuff as always
Kjato Ragfoot: OK. Speaking with the merchant will be done either next session or in the forum, then.
chris107: Yup, lot of fun.
Smon: OOC I thought Hakeem was going to attack Ruggio.
chris107: He was
Smon: Ruggio wasn't too keen on facing The Slayer single-handed.
chris107: seconds away
Kjato Ragfoot: I was sure he would, otherwise I would have taken that drastic measure to stop him.
Kjato Ragfoot: would have not taken
chris107: #He intended to cut the chain with his new sword and free the wench.
Amalric: I was for it, but the guards stepping in made it a risky proposition
chris107: Good role playing Kjato, super
Smon: OOC I like how in 5e 8 guards is a serious threat to level 7-8 PCs!
Smon: Everything feels a lot more 'real' than in most other eds, esp 3e-4e.
Kjato Ragfoot: I liked your reaction as well. Great contrast about my opportunistic warlock and your honour-bound barbarian.
chris107: H was unafraid (genuinly)
chris107: Just didn't want to queer the pitch for everyone els.
Amalric: agree, much more realistic
chris107: Yeah the characters really work well together.
Smon: A bloodbath in Bratanis' hall would have been interesting, but also good this way.
Smon: I love your PCs, yup!
chris107: H really only has one goal at the moment
chris107: and that's to get Malenn and his child to safty
Smon: OOC I'll say that Eardvulf & the three ex-chariot girls will stay at Bratanis tavern unless Z turns up.
chris107: without them the Halls would have swum with blood
Amalric: Rey doesn't mind at all. although war would be bad for his leisure activities
chris107: H really doesn't trust the Foxwood bitch
chris107: or her kind.
Kjato Ragfoot: Does anyone trust Foxwood?
Amalric: indeed, neither does Rey
Amalric: and LOL
chris107: He sees Yusan as a better hope to destroy the necromancers and Oriax
Kjato Ragfoot: I even trust that Tartarous-priest in Vex cellar more than her.
Kjato Ragfoot: Given, that is mainly because he is chained up, but still...
Smon:
chris107: Great politics in the game. Just the wrong character to play it with
Smon: I love H's approach to politics!

5:58pm  2015-9-11 Smon Has entered the room
Smon: Hi chris
chris107: Hi Simon
chris107: Still in the Highlands?
Smon: Have you seen log? http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/session-33-5-624446-trogs-under-rugs.html
5:59pm  2015-9-11 Kjato Ragfoot Has entered the room
chris107: Yup read them through.#
Smon: Hi K
Kjato Ragfoot: Hello!
Smon: At the end of last session Bjornalf & Rey had detected a likely secret door at the back of the alcove in the cliff behind the ruins where you are camping, but not any way to open it.
Smon: It's coming up to 3am and the heavy rain is preventing restful sleep, Eardvulf & Rey's harems are complaining.
Smon: The trap door in the ruins led down into fetid troglodyte-infested chambers.
chris107: Hakeem tries to pretend he's not interested in delving into the unknown, killing things and taking their stuff.
chris107: But he's pretty rubbish at fibbing
Smon: Hakeem had been resting in Malenn's arms, but woke to find her gone helping the others look for the secret door. He joins them.
Smon: Hakeem can make a WIS (Perception) check.
Smon: Or INT (Investigation)
chris107 rolls 1d20-1 and gets: 13, (-1) = 12
chris107: Both fail I think
Smon: Yup
Smon: Any secret door must be very well hidden.
chris107: 10 and 9
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, we could alway try to simply smash the wall with a hammer.
Smon: You get +3 Proficiency, INT +0, WIS -1.
chris107: Yes I saw Graham's comment on using Hakeem's head
chris107: "Malenn, shouldn't we get you to Lady Medea's?"
Kjato Ragfoot: "There is magic behind that alcove. Perhaps it is a flying carpet?"
chris107: @DM - so we know there is a door there, we just don't know how to open it?
Kjato Ragfoot: We know that there is something behind the wall, but we do not know how to get there, if I understood it correctly.
Smon: It seems hollow, and Bjornalf detected magic behind it.
chris107: Hakeem looks around for something heavy to bash it with.
Smon: Malenn nods to Hakeem. Jana Vex comes over. "The Temple-Tomb of Belaras might be a better place for Lady Malenn..."
chris107: "How will that be safer my lady Vex?"
Smon: /roll d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 3, (+4) = 7
Smon: Jana: "The Priests of Mitra-Apollo will care for her... Especially if she brings a donation. I hear Lady Meda has strange notions, not good for a Paladin of Mitra to hear..."
Smon: By now there is quite a crowd in the alcove, which is 10' deep and at least provides cover from the rain. Rey's girls Alicia & Lucy come over to inspect the back wall...
chris107: Hakeem ponders on this. Lady Meda seemed to know something about the future of their child afterall.
Smon: /roll d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 1, (+4) = 5
Smon: Alicia is distracted by a cracked fingernail
chris107: hehe
Smon: /roll d20+5
Smon rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 17, (+5) = 22
chris107: Yay!
Smon: Lucy: "Here's the catch..."
Smon: She grins and nonchalantly pulls a hidden catch; the back of the recess swings inwards...
Kjato Ragfoot: Good that Eardvulf kept you in a good mood!
Smon: ...into darkness. Bjornalf alone can see the two towering iron statues armed with heavy swords that stand guard in the chamber beyond.
Smon: Lucy: "Hey, Rey is my man!"
Smon: "Now where did he go...?" Rey seems to have wandered off, perhaps answering a call of nature.
Kjato Ragfoot: Oops. Sorry. With all those women around, I tend to get confused. You are all looking identically pretty.
chris107: H strikes up a torch.
Smon: Bjornalf sees that the barren chamber appears to be about 20x20, with an archway exit in the right/south wall, the statues flanking it.
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf would try to Detect Magic again, to figure out what exactly is magical.
Smon: H fishes out a rather damp torch and tries to light it...
Smon: /roll d20+2
Smon rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 2, (+2) = 4
Smon: No luck, the rain has got into everything.
chris107:
Smon: Bjornalf detects strong magic off the statues, which resemble ancient Ghinoran warriors in full hoplite armour.
chris107: nice
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. That is not a problem - I will simply Fairy Fire the room, then everyone can see it.
Smon: Alicia: "Let me, Hakeem..." she raises her hand and it glows suddebly with a strong blue-white radiance.
Smon: With a grinding sound the heads of the statues turn in your direction...
chris107: Thanks Bjorn!
chris107: Oops
chris107: Hakeem hefts his big sword and growls.
Smon: The statues raise their swords, again a grinding sound, and step forward, iron feet clanking on the stone floor...
Smon: Alicia: "*eek!"
chris107: Can they fit through the secret door?
Smon: The statues move towards you - most of the back wall of the recess swung inwards, plenty of room for the statues to fit through.
Smon: What are you doing?
chris107: Hakeem focuses his rage
chris107: And attacks
Kjato Ragfoot: I will try to SHATTER the statues.
Smon: As the statues approach Hakeem rages, Alicia jumps back, and Bjornalf casts shatter... roll init.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 9,
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 9, (+2) = 11
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 20, (+2) = 22
Smon: Hakeem enters rage and attacks as they come towards him with swords raised... Hakeem roll to hit, 2 attacks.
chris107: +7?
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
6 (+7) = 13
11 (+7) = 18
Smon: First blow bounces off its iron hide, second penetrates... the iron seems to close around the sword! Roll a str check d20+7
chris107 rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 9, (+7) = 16
chris107: Str 18
Smon: Hakeem tugs the sword free, leaving a ragged wound (14 or 2d6+6)
chris107 rolls 2d6+6 and gets: 5, 5, (+6) = 16
Smon: The statue staggers, Hakeem sees it's hollow inside.
Smon: As they close on Hakeem Bjornalf casts Shatter.
Kjato Ragfoot: (They need to save vs. CON, with disadvantage if they consist of inorganic matter)
Smon: B you can hit all 3 of them inc Hakeem, or just 1 of them avoiding Hakeem
Kjato Ragfoot: All three.
Smon: heh
chris107: Arrrgghhhh!
Kjato Ragfoot: Hakeem is a big barbarian, he probably won'T even notice the sound.
Smon: Hakeem make CON save d20+7
chris107: con 18
chris107 rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 11, (+7) = 18
Smon: pass, dc 15
Smon: roll 3d8 Kjato
chris107: Phew
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 5d8 and gets: 4, 6, 7, 7, 5, = 29
Smon: half dmg
Smon: 14 dmg to Hakeem
Kjato Ragfoot: (Warlocks always casts spells at maximum available spell level, thus the higher damage)
Smon: thx
Smon: statues save...
Smon: /roll d20+1x2
Kjato Ragfoot: (Isn't that further halved by his raging?)
Smon Rolls 1d20+1x2 and gets:
1 (+1) = 2
12 (+1) = 13
chris107: 68/82HP
Smon: The damaged one shatters to pieces.
Smon: /roll d20+1x2
Smon Rolls 1d20+1x2 and gets:
4 (+1) = 5
9 (+1) = 10
chris107: Nice!
Smon: (rage only halves physical dmg)
Kjato Ragfoot: (ah!)
Smon: The unwounded one is badly damaged but still operational as it swings at Hakeem...
Smon: /roll d20+6
Kjato Ragfoot: (Barbarians are more complicated then I thought)
Smon rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 10, (+6) = 16
Smon: sword hits (just)
chris107: AC16
Smon: /roll 2d6+6
Smon rolls 2d6+6 and gets: 6, 1, (+6) = 13
Smon: 13/2=6 dmg
chris107: 55/82HP
chris107: oops
Smon: Hakeem can attack
chris107: 62/82HP
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
4 (+7) = 11
1 (+7) = 8
Smon: No dice!
chris107: "Drat!"
Smon: Bjornalf are you out of spells?
Smon: I think you've actually cast 3 since last short rest.
Smon: Sleep, Gaseous Form, Shatter
Smon: 1 more than you should have?
Smon: If that's right, Bjornalf has over-exerted himself, make a DC 15 CON save or pass out...
Smon: Meanwhile the statue pushes Hakeem into the corner, sword swinging...
6:40pm  2015-9-11 Smon Has exited the room
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes, I only have two spells.
Kjato Ragfoot: I will attack with my magic scimitar.
Kjato Ragfoot: (Where did Smon go?)
chris107: Don't know
6:40pm  2015-9-11 Smon Has entered the room
chris107: Here he is
Kjato Ragfoot: Yay!
Smon: If that's right, Bjornalf has over-exerted himself, make a DC 15 CON save or pass out...
Smon: Meanwhile the statue pushes Hakeem into the corner, sword swinging...
Smon: statue attack:
Smon: /roll d20+6
Kjato Ragfoot: Huh? Why do I have over-exerted myself? I have two spells and cast two spells?
Smon rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 17, (+6) = 23
Smon: hit easily
Smon: /roll 2d6+6
Smon rolls 2d6+6 and gets: 2, 2, (+6) = 10
Smon: Sleep, Gaseous Form & Shatter?
chris107: 57/82HP
Smon: 5 dmg
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah!
chris107: Hakeem will try again
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
15 (+7) = 22
4 (+7) = 11
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 5, (+2) = 7
chris107 rolls 2d6+6 and gets: 1, 5, (+6) = 12
Smon: finally hit, Hakeem's blade plunges into the chest of the statue and it sinks to the floor.
Smon: Hakeem roll d20+7 STR check as the enchanted iron tries to meld with his blade...
chris107: He swiftly draws his blade from the thing
Smon: Bjornalf also sinks to the floor...
chris107 rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 5, (+7) = 12
Smon: DC 11, Hakeem pulls his sword free from the now inert form.
chris107: phew, bit close there.
Smon: And sees Alicia & Jana hurry over to Bjornalf, slumped on the chamber floor.
Smon: Alicia: "What happened to him?" Jana: "I am out of healing power, Hakeem - Malenn also."
chris107: Hakeem makes sure there are no further threats close by.
Smon: Alicia: "At least this room seems clean and dry, and big enough to rest in - shall I call the girls in?"
chris107: Then goes and helps his friend if he can.
Smon: Hakeem looks around - the chamber is indeed dry, flagged with sandstone. There are runes over the arch of the exit in the south/right wall, they look Orcish.
chris107: Carved or painted?
Smon: Alicia calls the other females in while Jana tends to Bjornalf. Rey & Eardvulf are off patrolling I guess.
Smon: They are carved in, quite skillfully.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 2,
Smon: You have NO idea what they say.
Smon: Do you want to try to rest here?
chris107: Look through the arch first
Smon: In the area beyond the arch is a small landing and a spiral stairway, leading down.
chris107: H listens for any signs of life from below
Smon: All seems still. The area seems undisturbed for generations, like a tomb.
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets: 11,
chris107: Then this looks like a good place to rest and dry out.
chris107: Lets get Bjorn back on his feet.
Smon: GM: You settle down to rest, the rain pounding down outside.
chris107: H will expend two healing dice
Smon: Bjornald wakes after an hour (short rest, but down 1 spell slot)
chris107 rolls 2d12+8 and gets: 7, 10, (+8) = 25
chris107: 82/82HP
Smon: Hakeem is already down 4 hd by the way (from Oriax), so now he's down 6, 1 left!
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
chris107: Sailing close to the wind.
Smon: The rain is easing up. You can try to sleep & get a proper long rest to 11am; if so are you closing the secret door?
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes, let's sleep properly.
chris107: If we can start a small fire for warmth and light I'd vote yes.
Smon: OK, you collect wet branches & kindling & swing the door back shut; Alicia produces a jet of flame which lights your small fire.
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf will take a look at the carvings (do they count as writing according to Eyes of the Eyes of the Rune Keeper (can read all writing).)
Smon: It gets a bit smoky but at least it's warm...
Smon: Bjornalf's Eye of the Rune Keeper reveals all...
Smon: "PRAISE TO MIDOR, THE GREAT GORGON DWELLS BEYOND! SPEAK HIS NAME...
Smon: ...AS YOU PASS BELOW THE ARCH OR BE BLASTED BY MIDOR'S WRATH!"
Smon: Very loquacious for orcs.
chris107: "What's a Gorgon?"
Kjato Ragfoot: A women with snake hair that turns you to stone if you look into her eyes.
Kjato Ragfoot: So, make sure to look on the part below her face. The other pair of eyes, if you will.
chris107: "Mmmmmmm"
chris107: Hakeem sharpens his sword.
Smon: Lucy: "Yes, the most famous Gorgon was Medusa, slain by Perseus I believe..."
Smon: /roll d20+3
Smon rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 9, (+3) = 12
chris107: "Maleen, I want you to keep away from this snake haired woman."
Smon: Lucy: "But the Gorgons were female and it says speak *his* name?"
Smon: Malenn nods to Hakeem. "This little shortsword's not much use anyway - I need a new rapier, *sigh*"
Smon: (brb dinner)
chris107: Okay, I'll grab a sandwich too.
7:03pm  2015-9-11 Amalric Has entered the room
chris107: Hi Graham!
Smon: Hi G!
Amalric: Hello!
Amalric: sorry, complete brain fart this evening
Kjato Ragfoot: Hello Amalric
Smon: Rey returns from scouting around to find the others gone
Amalric: maybe I shouldn't have started drinking early this evening
Amalric: I usually dont, but got a beer down and onto a Drambuie already, its been a while
chris107: You old lush!
Smon: Eventually he works out they got through the secret door at the back of the alcove in the cliff and knocks, Lucy Prentice opens it and Rey comes in out of the rain.
chris107: "There's a snake haired women down those steps Rey." Hakeem points
Smon: There are two smashed iron statues of armoured warriors, all the harem girls etc are lying around resting.
Smon: Hakeem points out the steps beyond a rune-carved arch in the south/right-hand wall of the chamber.
Amalric: "A snake-headed woman? Is she a looker?"
Amalric: "I mean, is she a medusa?"
Smon: (I find drink before game can be bad, I can get all lethargic)
Smon: Lucy: "Bjornalf says it's a Gorgon, yes."
Amalric: "Well surely one of you beautiful ladies is carrying a mirror in your...ah...in ah...carrying a mirror??"
chris107: "I haven't killed one of those before."
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. Is there any magic left on the statues?
Smon: There is only faint lingering magic on the statues now.
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah. A pity, I hoped we could pilfer some treasure.
chris107: "Oh and Rey. You have to say Midor before you go through the arch or you'll get blasted."
Kjato Ragfoot: The statues as a whole will be to heavy to carry along? Magic metal might be a good gift.
Smon: Alicia yawns, settling down to sleep. Lucy shakes her head. "We left in a bit of a rush - forgot my make-up kit..."
Amalric: "Midor? I'll try and remember that."
Amalric: "I did say you didn't need it, my dear, for you are quite pretty enough."
chris107: "Shall we go kill this Gorgon then? Malenn needs some treasure."
Smon: GM: Rey's pack holds 1000 ball bearings & a bell... but no mirror.
Kjato Ragfoot: Rey could try to seduce her first, he has a hand with those ladies...
Smon: Lucy grins at Rey's compliment.
chris107: "This is true. Go to it friend Rey."
Amalric: "I'm not sure this lady is open to such approaches."
chris107: "Surely no woman can resist your charms?"
Kjato Ragfoot: I thought you are up to challenges?
Smon: GM: Bjornalf can pick up pieces of the shattered iron statue.
Amalric: "Most women don't have snakes for hair."
Amalric: "Snakes are poisonous."
chris107: "A novelty for you!"
Smon: Did you want to try to finish your long rest first?
Amalric: "And they...ah...turn people to stone. Hence the mirror."
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, then make sure your snakes outperform hers.
chris107: "Try not to kiss the snakes..."
Amalric: are any of the statues made of shiny metal?
Amalric: (and LOL Kjato!)
chris107: Long rest first yes.
Smon: Hakeem is at 1 surge, Bjornalf at 0 surges and down 10 hp, your healers are out of healing...
Kjato Ragfoot: Long rest.
Kjato Ragfoot: The metal seems to be normal iron, with lingering magic.
Smon: GM: You settle down to sleep, alternating watches, the fire dies down...
Smon: Late morning you rise, Malenn opens the secret door to reveal daylight coming in.
Amalric: no-one keeping the fire going? ah well...
Smon: You get back 3 healing surges & your spells etc.
Smon: (it's not that cold)
Smon: (climate is warm/Mediterranean, edging towards savannah)
Kjato Ragfoot: (Bjornalf should still be damaged, if I recall correctly? - but I do not recall how hurt)
Smon: 10hp K
chris107: Hakeem has a bad feeling about this.
Kjato Ragfoot: (40/50 then)
Smon: Rey: -6 hp -1 hd Bjornalf: -10 hp -7 hd Hakeem: -0 hp -6 hd
chris107: But shakes his head and thinks about getting treasure for his wife and child.
Smon: I'll say you can get avg hp back from a hd so Rey is back to full hp & -1 hd, Bjornalf full hp -6 hd, Hakeem full hp -3hd
Kjato Ragfoot: Is there any other magic left in this room, except for the destroyed statues?
Smon: The archway radiates faint invocation magic.
chris107: "Midor!" H steps through
Kjato Ragfoot: (44/50)
Smon: (why 44/50 K?)
Smon: Hakeem steps through the archway and is blasted by a psychic attack - WIS save d20+2 vs DC 15
Kjato Ragfoot: (Oh. I misunderstood you - I thought you said I have full HD minus 6 HP)
Smon: No, you are down 6 healing dice after healing to full
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 15, (+2) = 17
chris107:
Amalric: nice
Smon: !! Bondorr is with Hakeem this morning; he reels for a moment and takes 10 dmg, but is still conscious on the other side of the arch.
chris107: 72/82HP
Kjato Ragfoot: It's a trap!
Amalric: "Hakeem! You okay??"
chris107: "I'm good thanks. Bit of a head ache."
chris107: "malenn, do not bring our child through this arch."
Smon: Hakeem is by the spiral stairway, it descends into darkness.
Smon: Malenn looks worried, and nods.
chris107: "No matter what happens. Promise me."
Smon: "I promise, Hakeem."
Amalric: "Take a look at the arch, Bjornalf?"
Kjato Ragfoot: It is magic, slight invocation magic.
Kjato Ragfoot: There is writing on it that said everyone will be smitten unless he speaks the name of Midor.
chris107: "Come on men! We have a Gorgon to slay and much treasure to gain!" Hakeem is happy again now he knows his wife and child are safe.
Kjato Ragfoot: Who is the archenemy of Midor? We should try invoking his name instead.
Smon: Religion - I guess Jana & Malenn might know...
Smon: Malenn
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 3,
Smon: Jana
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 9,
Smon: They scratch their pretty heads.
Smon: (needed a 10)
Kjato Ragfoot: If I recall correctly, the Queen of the Ocean had a proper name as well - Bjornalf will invoke that name when stepping through the archway.
Smon: Bjornalf speaks the Queen's name, but is still blasted
Smon: WIS save DC 15
Amalric: "Okay, any idea what the King's name was?"
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20-1 and gets: 4, (-1) = 3
Smon: (funny how you all seem to have WIS 9 BTW!)
Smon: (you do get +3 for Prof but still fail)
chris107:
Smon: Bjornalf takes 20 psychic damage and is KO'd again.
Smon: He drops to the floor.
chris107: Hakeem props him up safely
Smon: Alli the handmaid: "*eek!*"
Smon: Hakeem drags Bjornalf to the other side.
Amalric: "Don't worry, Alli. I'm okay."
Smon: Alli: "Er... That's good, Rey!" she smiles weakly.
Amalric: "And chaps...the King? Is there a King? Did he have a name?"
chris107: "C'mon Rey! There's a woman down these steps."
chris107: "What king Rey?"
Smon: >>"PRAISE TO MIDOR, THE GREAT GORGON DWELLS BEYOND! SPEAK HIS NAME... Smon: ...AS YOU PASS BELOW THE ARCH OR BE BLASTED BY MIDOR'S WRATH!"<<
Smon: /roll d20+5
Smon rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 8, (+5) = 13
Amalric: "Yes, HIS name. Didn't you say Midor was Queen?"
chris107: Hakeem's head hurts with all the thinking.
Smon: Lucy recounts what Bjornalf told her the Runes said. Lucy: 'Speak his name' - Midor's name, or the Great Gorgon's name? But Gorgons are female, right?
Smon: Jana: "Midor is God of the Orcs - he's male."
Smon: /roll d4+1
Amalric: "Midor may have worked before, but not now."
Smon rolls 1d4+1 and gets: 4, (+1) = 5
Amalric: "Maybe it's a day/night thing..?"
Smon: After 5 minutes Bjornalf stirs.
chris107: H sets to sharpening his sword some more.
Kjato Ragfoot: I doubt it. It is more likely a riddle, you have to know the correct name.
chris107: "Didn't one of you say that the great gorgon was some bird called meduca?"
Smon: Lucy: "I once read a book where there was a rune-door with the words Speak Friend and Enter, and the adventurers got past just by saying 'friend'..."
Amalric: "Really? Well Midor isn't working..."
chris107: "So try HIs NAME Rey?"
Kjato Ragfoot: Rey, try to pass by saying "His Name".
Amalric: "What is 'friend' in this language?"
Smon: Malenn: "I don't think Orcs even have a word for Friend..."
Kjato Ragfoot: No. Not "friend". That was another door. Say the words "his name".
Amalric: "Okaayyyy...."
chris107: "What's Orcish for HIS NAME?"
Smon: Bjornalf can pronounce 'his name' in Orc.
Smon: "Khufghash Takk"
Smon: (orc sounds a lot like klingon)
Smon: Rey does that & steps through?
Amalric: Rey walks up to the door and shouts, "Khufghash Takk" and passes through the arch
Smon: *bzzt* Rey gets blasted...
Smon: WIS save DC 15
chris107:
Amalric rolls 1d20 and gets: 11,
Smon: 11+2=13, fail, 20 dmg & KO'd.
Smon: Rey falls at 38/58 hp.
chris107: Mmmmm maybe we should lower the unconscious Rey down to the Gorgon?
Amalric: +1 for Ring of Protection?
Smon: Allie: "*eek!*"
Smon: 11+2+1=14, still fail due to WIS 9.
chris107: Hakeem pulls the slumped fellow through
Smon: All three of you have WIS 9...
Amalric: half damage from area effects?
Smon: It's not an area effect.
chris107: 9 Wisdom is good
Amalric:  gotta try
chris107: It couldn't find Hakeem's tiny brain
Smon: Lucy: "Well I don't fancy going through there..."
chris107: "If we three can't do this...."
Smon: Malenn: "Unless there's another exit, they'll have to come back through the arch."
Smon: /roll d4+1
Amalric: "Stay there, ladies. It really isn't worth it."
Smon rolls 1d4+1 and gets: 1, (+1) = 2
chris107: "If we don't come back. Get Malenn and our child to safety."
Smon: Jana & co nod. After 2 minutes Rey stirs.
Smon: Malenn: "I'll get *them* to safety, husband!" she grins.
chris107: "Malenn tell the boy about his father. Teach him to be a fine warrior."
chris107: Hakeem grins back
Smon: Malenn: "You'll come back Hakeem, I know it."
Kjato Ragfoot: We'll just take the side entrance as exit.
chris107: "Come Rey, Bjorn. We have a Gorgon to slay!"
Amalric: Rey gulps
Smon: So, you three are now on the landing at top of the spiral stairs, Bjornalf & Rey have a sore head.
Amalric: time to use some healing dice?
chris107: Yup
Smon: You can rest to 12pm to spend hd if you like (ie your headaches clear)
chris107: Short rest and H uses one healing dice
Smon: The ladies cook lunch, Eardvulf disporting himself with the rescued pony girls.
chris107 rolls 1d12+4 and gets: 1, (+4) = 5
Smon: Your rations from Selatne are running low, but Malenn & Lucy toss you some cooked meat.
chris107: 77/82HP
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d8+2 and gets: 3, (+2) = 5
Amalric rolls 2d8+4 and gets: 5, 8, (+4) = 17
Smon: You can roll your healing dice or take average
Kjato Ragfoot: 35/50
Amalric: i'll roll
Amalric: 55/58
Smon: Rey down 3 dice, Bjornalf down 7 (all), Hakeem down 4.
Smon: Your healers are charged up but can't get past the arch to heal you!
chris107: The now cheerful Hakeem is eager to be off.
Smon: Going down stairs, single file - who first?
chris107: "Rey do you want to scout and spot any traps?"
Amalric: "Ehm....no?"
Amalric: "Surely there won't be any more?"
Amalric: "From your stony silence I assume you disagree."
Amalric: *sigh*
Amalric: "Okay, I shall lead the way."
chris107:
Amalric: Rey goes first, searching for traps as he goes
chris107: Hakeem will follow 10' behind
Smon: You head downstairs - what's your light source?
Smon: Torch?
chris107: Using his Barbarian danger sense
chris107: good point
chris107: have our torches dried out?
Smon: Rey would need to carry the torch to check for traps.
Amalric: Rey has his glowing dagger
Smon: Yes they're dry now,
Smon: ok glowing dagger FTW!
chris107:
Smon: You head downstairs, Rey's shining gold light giving away your position to any wandering monsters...
chris107: "Good luck Rey."
Smon: At least it lights up the uneven steps.
chris107: sword in 2 hands
Amalric: somehow I knew you'd say that
Smon: They seem worn smooth as of ancient use, but are now dusty, untrod for generations perhaps.
Kjato Ragfoot: I will keep some distance to be out of sight for the monsters.
Amalric: "Your lack of presence is not comforting."
Smon: The steps wind down a good distance, nearly 30' maybe, before Rey comes to an opening to his right that leads off the steps to a great vaulted chamber. The spiral stair continues on down past the archway into darkness.
Smon: Are you looking through the archway into the chamber?
Amalric: through my fingers!
Smon: (sounds like 10' between each of you, just out of sight round the spiral)
chris107: hehe
Amalric: unless i can see reflections in my blade, and look that way?
Smon: Its glow dazzles Rey.
Kjato Ragfoot: (You could call through the archway: "Hey, sweetie, I am home."
Amalric: (I'm picturing the vast halls of Moria mixed with the original Clash of the Titans medusa scene)
chris107: (Nice Graham  )
Smon: Looking through the archway Rey sees a high vaulted chamber about 30'x40', roof supported by 4 stone pillars carved with images of mighty orc warlords in Ghinarian type armour.
Amalric: "I'm guessing we say 'Midor' this time..."
chris107: "Worth a try Rey."
Smon: The far wall 40' opposite is hung with a massive dark tapestry on which an orc in black armour - Midor? - stands over a mass of wretched slave-creatures, some sort of small demi-human.
Amalric: maybe we'll watch for a minute...
Smon: Their scrawny little beards are dwarf-like, but they seem more fragile - gnomes, perhap?
Smon: There are two other exits from this chamber about 25' in to left and right, a door to the left (east) and an open wide arch to the right (west) opposite each other.
Kjato Ragfoot: Let's try the door. We made bad experiences with archways recently.
Smon: So the exits are on either side of the tapestry on the south wall.
Amalric: "Any thoughts on which way to go? I'd guess the medusa is through the arch to the right."
Amalric: "Midor" says Rey, stepping through the arch
chris107: "My turn to go ahead then brother Rey."
Smon: (rem you could also keep going down the stairs)
Amalric: the stairs went on??
Smon: Rey steps through the arch - unscathed!
chris107: H mimics him and follows
Amalric: oh, so they did! nm
Smon: Smon: The steps wind down a good distance, nearly 30' maybe, before Rey comes to an opening to his right that leads off the steps to a great vaulted chamber. The spiral stair continues on down past the archway into darkness.<<
Amalric: yep, missed it first time
Smon: Hakeem also passes through the western arch unscathed.
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, now are through that archway. Bjornalf will mimic Rey and Hakeem.
Smon: The light of the dagger shines on a long 10' wide passage running west, away from you.
Amalric: "Coming, B?"
Smon: There are several doors off to left (1) and right (2) before the passage runs beyond the limit of your light.
chris107: Mmmm now I'm confused
chris107: But Hakeem will happily take the lead now.
Amalric: me too
Smon: You passed through arch at the east end of an east-west tunnel w 3 doors off it
chris107: Ah thanks
Amalric: I thought there was two exits in the room, an arch and a door?
Smon: yes
Smon: You went through the arch, on the west side
Kjato Ragfoot: We went to the arch, and are now in another room. That room has 3 doors and a tunnel.
chris107: What do the doors look like?
Amalric: got you
Smon: These doors are quite small and plain looking, old dry wood, cracked.
Smon: No, you are in a tunnel K.
chris107: And the tunnel continues?
Amalric: door to the left then?
chris107: "Why not?"
Smon: You are in a tunnel with 2 doors on right, 1 on left, tunnel continues into darkness ahead.
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes.
chris107: H will kick open the door on the left
Smon: Rey checks the door and H opens it onto a small, bare chamber resembling a monk's cell, there is a narrow stone bed set into the far wall.
Smon: No other exit.
chris107: he repeats the process on the two right hand doors
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf will check under the matress.
Smon: No mattress, but Bjornalf notices a faint reek.
Kjato Ragfoot: Hmm.
Kjato Ragfoot: That stinks. Slightly.
Smon: H kicks open the first right-side door... "Hraarr!" yell the pack of small, red-capped creatures that leap to their feet, eyes shining madly.
Amalric: "I take it they're not friendly."
Kjato Ragfoot: Where does the smell originate?
chris107: H is a bit shocked. He was expecting more cells
Smon: The chamber is about 15x15 and seems full of the little red-capped bearded man-things... they are drawing tiny weapons...
Smon: /roll 2d6
Smon rolls 2d6 and gets: 6, 4, = 10
chris107: Red caps like...Gnomes?
Smon: Yes! Hakeem recognises the creatures as Gnomes!
Kjato Ragfoot: (sounds like evil garden gnomes)=
chris107: "Hello."
Amalric: "We come in peace!"
Smon: These ones wear filthy rags and their eyes shine with feral madness.
Smon: /roll 2d8+2
Smon rolls 2d8+2 and gets: 7, 6, (+2) = 15
Smon: THere are 15 here.
Smon: Suddenly the door further down the tunnel bursts open and more gnomes pour out...
Smon: /roll d8+1
Smon rolls 1d8+1 and gets: 1, (+1) = 2
Smon: Only 2
chris107: more trickle out then?
chris107: If they look dangerous H will chop them up.
Smon: They advance on you, jabbering and waving weapons, but don't immediately attack.
chris107: If not he will try to calm them down.
Smon: They look small but dangerous, in a wretched sort of way. They look a lot like the slave things in the tapestry you just saw.
chris107: "Bjorn, do you speak their language?"
Amalric: "Lets hold our hands up, to show we mean no harm."
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 4,
chris107: H holds one hand up. The other on his sword.
Smon: Bjornalf thinks they are speaking some kind of orcish dialect.
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, I can understand them if I use a spell. But I cannot speak their language.
Smon: The feral gnomes wave their weapons at you angrily. It looks as if they want you to leave.
chris107: Then I suggest we leave.
chris107: Back off quietly and shut the door?
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh well.
chris107: And along the dark tunnel?
Kjato Ragfoot: If Hakeem suggests a retreat, who am I to object?
Smon: The gnomes press forward, including the two in the tunnel. It looks as if they want you to retreat back east to the tapestry chamber.
Amalric: "I think they serve the medusa."
chris107: Any ideas?
Amalric: "Maybe if we kill her the curse on the gnomes will be lifted?"
Kjato Ragfoot: I doubt they are cursed. They probably just went native.
chris107: "Maybe.."
chris107: "Down the steps or through the other door?"
Amalric: "Other door?"
Kjato Ragfoot: Doors.
Amalric: "Or have we had enough surprises?"
chris107: Just one other door in the tapestery room
Kjato Ragfoot: We can always resort to butchering gnomes if we feel frustrated.
chris107: Down the spiral stairs then.
Smon: The gnomes wave short spears and daggers at you, howling.
Kjato Ragfoot: So, let's check those doors.
Smon: You fall back towards the tapestry chamber, the gnomes jeering triumphantly.
Smon: They stop well before the arch into the tapestry chamber though.
chris107: "We do not need to fight children."
Smon: You three re-enter the tapestry chamber through the arch in the west wall. Opposite you is the door, to your left/north is the spiral stairway going up & down.
chris107: "Come let's look below."
Amalric: Rey leads the way again
chris107: Down the steps?
Kjato Ragfoot: Ok. Bjornalf will open the door.
chris107: Okay, the door
Smon: Bjornalf heads over to the door opposite and flings it open. He sees a short tunnel leading away east about 15' to the foot of an ascending staircase. The stairs go up east out of sight.
Kjato Ragfoot: That seems to be our side exit.
chris107: So now down the steps?
Smon: Are you heading up the eastern stairs?
chris107: down the spiral
Smon: Hakeem still wants to go down the spiral.
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes. The treasure is probably downstairs.
Amalric: down down down
Smon: OK you head across the tapestry chamber, in the tunnel opposite you see gnome eyes glinting redly in the darkness, and reach the spiral stairs.
Smon: You start downstairs...
Amalric: suddenly the stairs up sound good
Smon: The spiral stairway descends another 20' vertically before ending at an arched opening on the centre of the north side of a small chamber, 10' deep n-s and 20' wide e-w.
Smon: There is a brass-bound door directly opposite, flanked by two more of the iron statues you defeated earlier.
Smon: As the golden light of the dagger falls on them they start to turn...
Smon: Rey roll init.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 14,
chris107: Hakeem will attack with rage and the other thingie
Kjato Ragfoot: We could try to lure them upstairs and let them fight the gnomes?
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 5, (+2) = 7
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh well, there goes that proposition...
chris107: (Oops sorry Kjato)
chris107: (That was a jolly good idea)
chris107: (Alas hakeem thinks with his sword  )
Smon: init Rey?
Amalric: sorry
Amalric: d20?
Smon: Hakeem is 10' back, Bjornalf is 20' back
Smon: d20
Amalric rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 16, (+4) = 20
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 5, (+2) = 7
chris107: another d20?
Smon: Rey has time to retreat up the stairs before the statues reach him, or attack them, or even dash for the door they flank.
Smon: (they beat H & B)
Amalric: okay, dash for the stairs!
Amalric: oh, i thought we'd all get up the stairs?
Smon: Rey races back up the stairs, the statues following in single file.
Amalric: uh-oh
chris107: Saved by the bell
8:41pm  2015-9-11 Smon Has entered the room
Smon: Hakeem is behind Rey on the stairs, Rey dashes past him as an iron statue comes up behind him and hacks at Hakeem...
Smon: /roll d20+6
Smon rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 17, (+6) = 23
chris107: hakeem will hack back
Smon: The statue hits H before he can Rage
chris107: Rolling well tonight Simon
Smon: /roll 2d6+6
Smon rolls 2d6+6 and gets: 6, 3, (+6) = 15
Smon: 15 dmg!
Smon: H can Rage & strike back.
chris107: 65/82HP
chris107: 67/82
Smon: You were down 5 on my sheet?
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
14 (+7) = 21
5 (+7) = 12
Smon: So 62/82?
Amalric: Rey will turn and fight if Hakeem stands fighting
chris107: 62/82 you are right
Smon: The narrow spiral stairs only let one person fight.
chris107 rolls 2d6+6 and gets: 2, 3, (+6) = 11
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets: 4,
Amalric: oh sorry Chris!
Smon: Hakeem hits the statue, DC 11 to pull sword free, get +7 so just made it.
chris107: phew
chris107: Thought I'd blown it there
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf will Poison Spray the statues from behind Hakeem if he gets close enough to do that.
Smon: If Bjornalf pushes past Rey he can Poison Spray the head of the statue fighting Hakeem, yup.
Kjato Ragfoot: Then I will do so.
Smon: The statue is unaffected by the puff of poison gas.
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah. Damn it.
Smon: Next round - Rey you hear the sound of battle behind you, but the central pillar of the spiral stairs blocks your view.
Smon: The statue grimly attacks Hakeem...
Smon: /roll d20+6
Smon rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 2, (+6) = 8
Amalric: Rey sneaks up and takes a peek
chris107: Hakeem carries on hacking at the statue
Smon: Hakeem parries...
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
3 (+7) = 10
2 (+7) = 9
Smon: (rem you can Berserk now if you like for 3 attacks)
Smon: (you might want to save it, your choice)
chris107: ah yes. Perhaps wise
chris107: mmmm okay I'll save it.
chris107: 2 misses
Smon: H's blows bounce off. Is Bjornalf doing anything?
Smon: Next round, I'll just do H vs statue unless R & B want to do anything.
Smon: Statue attacks:
Smon: /roll d20+6
Smon rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 14, (+6) = 20
Smon: ouch
Smon: hacks Hakeem for...
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf retreats, so that Rey gets a chance to do something.
Smon: /roll 2d6+6
Smon rolls 2d6+6 and gets: 3, 2, (+6) = 11
Smon: 11/2=5 dmg.
chris107: 5?
chris107: 58/82
Amalric: Rey was looking up the stairs
Smon: Rey can move past Bjornalf, if he has a missile weapon he could target the statue's head. It has cover from H & the central pillar.
Smon: H can attack.
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
8 (+7) = 15
1 (+7) = 8
chris107: Cripes I'm rolling poorly tonight
Smon: Bondor must be snoozing this morning...
Smon: Statue swings, sword tearing chunks from the stonework..
Smon: /roll d20+6
Amalric: i've got two normal daggers to throw?
Smon rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 5, (+6) = 11
Smon: Hakeem parries, Rey can throw his daggers, AC 20.
Amalric rolls 2d20 and gets: 19, 5, = 24
Kjato Ragfoot: (I could borrow you my crossbow)
Smon: 1 hits the iron statue in the face, merging into it.
Amalric: what?!
chris107: Hakeem keeps on trying
chris107: Another round yet?
Amalric: "THAT COST ME TWO GOLD PIECES, YA BUM!!"
Smon: Rey can roll dmg including Sneak Attack dice,
Smon: H can attack.
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
15 (+7) = 22
16 (+7) = 23
Amalric: is it 1d4+4 plus Sneak?
Smon: (the other dagger hit the support pillar)
chris107: Better!
Amalric: there ya go!
Smon: (yes)
Amalric rolls 1d4+4 and gets: 4, (+4) = 8
Amalric rolls 3d6 and gets: 4, 5, 6, = 15
chris107 rolls 4d6+12 and gets: 2, 4, 5, 6, (+12) = 29
Kjato Ragfoot: Rey, take my crossbow. You are a much better shot than I am.
Amalric: only 52hp damage
Smon: It had 23 hp left, so Rey's dagger to the eye brings it crashing down.
chris107: Yay!
Smon: Hakeem leaps forward to strike the second statue coming up behind as the first one tumbles into its legs.
Amalric: (brb 2 mins)
Smon: Hakeem you have to make the saving throw for each hit or your sword gets melded.
Smon: You need 4+ on d20.
Smon: roll twice.
chris107 rolls 2d20 and gets: 4, 20, = 24
Smon: lucky
chris107: yay
chris107: Just again
chris107:
Smon: H hacks great rents in the second statue (29 dmg), it staggers but strikes back:
Smon: /roll d20+6
Smon rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 10, (+6) = 16
Smon: hit
chris107: AC16
Smon: /roll 2d6+6
Smon rolls 2d6+6 and gets: 1, 5, (+6) = 12
Smon: 6 dmg
Smon: H is now down 31 hp by my count.
chris107: 52/82
Smon: 51/82 I think
chris107: okay 51/82
Smon:
Smon: H can attack
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
18 (+7) = 25
4 (+7) = 11
Smon: hit!
chris107 rolls 2d6+6 and gets: 6, 6, (+6) = 18
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets: 6,
Smon: The Altanian sword plunges into the statue's iron chest, it collapses.
chris107: and he pulls his blade free
Smon: Hakeem yanks it free!
Smon: Well done not losing your sword.
chris107: Bondarr smiles on his servant
Smon: The statue tumbles back down the stairs, with a mighty crash it comes to rest in the chamber below.
chris107: "Now what's all that noise from above?"
Kjato Ragfoot: An overabundance of statues, but a lack of treasure.
Smon: I'm ok to play to 10.30 if I get a cup of tea now - brb
chris107: I'll grab a beer then
Smon: (back)
chris107: back
Smon: Hakeem catches his breath.
Smon: The statues were flanking a brass bound door in the south wall of their guard chamber, the only exit.
Smon: Do you want to open it & go through? There are no runes over the archway.
Kjato Ragfoot: That worries me. Rey, would you check for traps?
chris107: Hakeem does.
chris107: okay maybe after Rey has checked for traps
Amalric: sorry back
Amalric: do I get my other dagger back?
Amalric: check for traps roll (1d20+7? Investigation)
Smon: Rey checks for traps, finding none on the door, then Hakeem pushes it open, it opens into an alcove on the north side of a rectangular chamber that is 20' deep n-s, maybe 40' e-w. This chamber is lined with tattered tapestries, on the west wall is a large ruined book-case with wrecked books and scroll cases scattered around.
Smon: (yes you can recover the dagger that missed)
Smon: The light from Rey's dagger falls on something massive, dark, bulky and quadrupedal, standing near the eastern wall of this wrecked chamber - it looks like a massive bull, covered in metal plates.
chris107: GULP!
Amalric: an inanimate metal bull *crosses fingers*
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. What a coincidence. A behemoth...
chris107: Hakeem attacks with rage, berserk and the thing that gives advantage
Smon: As the light falls on it, it makes a low snorting sound, noxious green vapour rising from its nostrils.
Amalric: "Oh, one of those gorgons..."
chris107: All or nothing now boys.
Smon: Its rusty hide squeals as the Gorgon stamps its foot, lowering its head...
Smon: roll init
chris107: "Look after my wife and unborn child if I should fall!"
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 12, (+2) = 14
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 17, (+2) = 19
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 16,
Amalric rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 6, (+4) = 10
Kjato Ragfoot: "I doubt we will not be in any shape to look after anything if you fall."
Smon: Rey is startled, Bjornalf is too slow, but Hakeem Rages and charges, attacking Recklessly...
chris107: first attack
Smon: H can attack, 2 attacks w advtg
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
16 (+7) = 23
3 (+7) = 10
chris107: second
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
4 (+7) = 11
13 (+7) = 20
Smon: ac 19, 2 hits
chris107:
chris107 rolls 4d6+12 and gets: 2, 4, 3, 2, (+12) = 23
Smon: H got into it before it could Charge - lucky!
Smon: So instead it snorts a 30' long cone of poison gas, enveloping all of you.
Amalric rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 7, (+4) = 11
Smon: You feel your skin hardening... DC 13 CON save or Petrify...
Amalric: im thinking Rey misses his save
chris107: What ='s are on that?
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 7, (+2) = 9
chris107: +'s
Smon: Rey begins to turn to sone and is Restrained (can't move, attacks have disad)
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets: 19,
chris107:
Smon: Bjornald has +5 to CON save, also fail by 1 and starts to petrify.
Amalric: guess I get no bonus for Evasion here either
Smon: Rey has +5 to CON save, likewise failed by 1.
Smon: Rey and Bjornalf can still act despite being half-stoned at this point.
Smon: (BTW this Gorgon is way under-CR'd, if you survive I'm giving CR 7 not CR 5)
Amalric: (great! I have no idea what that means, but great  )
chris107: Hakeem is now berserking recklessly.
chris107: "Spread out!"
Smon: Rey you could throw stuff at Gorgon, but with disad. Bjornalf could cast a spell.
Kjato Ragfoot: (IF I understood it correctly, we cannot move?)
Smon: But Rey & Bjornalf's legs are turned to stone, they can't move at all.
chris107: oops
Amalric: H could draw it toward us!
chris107: half stoned. Got you.
Smon: Are R & B doing anything?
Smon: It's their goes, then H's 2nd go.
chris107: Can H lure it between them?
Kjato Ragfoot: I will Fairy Fire the bull.
Smon: Yes he could fall back but (a) it gets a free attack unless H takes Withdraw action and (b) it could then charge...
chris107: Shatter it?
chris107: No then
chris107: Berserk H will attack it recklessly
Kjato Ragfoot: Can I shatter it without hurting Hakeem?
chris107: H is down to 52HP
Smon: (yes, if you centre Shatter behind it)
Amalric: Rey will throw his retrieved dagger
Smon: Shatter its arse.
Kjato Ragfoot: OK, will do that.
chris107: yay! Shatter it's arse!
Amalric rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 17, (+7) = 24
Smon: Rey has Disadvantage on throw, roll again.
Amalric rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 1, (+7) = 8
chris107:
Amalric:
chris107: Hard lines Graham.
Smon: Rey misses as his arm feels like a lump of stone.
Smon: Bjornalf casts Shatter.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 3,
Smon: Gorgon fails its save vs Shatter.
chris107: Yay!
Amalric: a break at last
Smon: 5d8 I believe?
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 5d8 and gets: 7, 2, 1, 4, 6, = 20
Smon: 20 dmg, 43 so far.
Smon: Hakeem attacks?
Amalric: and the break turns again
chris107: That's a great start
chris107: 1st
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
14 (+7) = 21
7 (+7) = 14
Smon: hit
chris107: 2nd
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
3 (+7) = 10
19 (+7) = 26
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
11 (+7) = 18
5 (+7) = 12
chris107: 2 hits?
Smon: Hakeem's sword hacks through iron plating into foul undead flesh beneath (it's an undead Gorgon!)
Amalric: chop chop choppity chop!
Smon: yup AC 19, 2 hits
chris107 rolls 4d6+12 and gets: 1, 4, 5, 3, (+12) = 25
Smon: 68 dmg so far.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
Smon: The Gorgon gores Hakeem.
Smon: /roll d20+8
chris107: ac16
Smon rolls 1d20+8 and gets: 15, (+8) = 23
Smon: hit
Smon: its sharp horn jabs him
Smon: /roll 2d12+5
Smon rolls 2d12+5 and gets: 10, 11, (+5) = 26
Smon: 26/2=13 dmg
Smon: 44 hp down
chris107: 46/82HP
Smon: Rey & Bjornalf need to save again, & get 13 on d20+5 or turn fully to stone.
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 15, (+5) = 20
chris107: The berserk Barbarian continues his frenzied assault
chris107: Good luck chaps!
Amalric rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 11, (+5) = 16
chris107: Yay!
Amalric: saved!
Smon: Hakeem has taken 44 dmg, 82-44=38 left
chris107: sorry not with it
chris107: 38
Smon: The stone grip on Rey & Bjornalf fades.
chris107: Yay!
Smon: Seeing this, the Gorgon snorts, preparing to breathe again (so you might want to not be in a cone shape when he does)
Kjato Ragfoot: Can we move before it breathes?
Smon: R & B can act, yes
chris107: Hakeem hacks first?
Smon: R & B first, then H
Amalric: "Move away from me and H, Bjornalf!"
Amalric: can we move and attack?
Smon: Rey could move to flank it and melee attack, yup.
Amalric: will do so
Amalric rolls 2d20 and gets: 10, 13, = 23
Smon: Bjornalf could eg spellcast then move out of the chamber?
Amalric: +7 both?
Amalric: rapier, dagger as always
Smon: +1 dagger is +8 attack
Smon: http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/5egh-amalric-pc-rey.html
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. That sounds good. Another shatter behind the gorgon, then out of the chamber.
Smon: dagger hits, can sneak attack
Amalric: ah yes, i'm looking right at it!
Amalric rolls 1d4+1 and gets: 4, (+1) = 5
Amalric rolls 3d6 and gets: 6, 3, 4, = 13
chris107: Nice!
Smon: With Rey & Hakeem flanking Gorgon a Shatter would get one of them too
Amalric: (max damage on two dagger hits, plus 13 and 15/18 for sneaks thus far tonight!)
Smon: 18 dmg, it's taken 86, looking pretty ropey now.
Amalric: cast away Kjato, I'm only down 3hp
Smon: Tough old bugger though.
Kjato Ragfoot: Meh. In that case I will shoot my crossbow.
chris107: I'm down to 38 and have 3 attacks to make
Amalric: though if you roll max damage i'll be pissed
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 18, (+5) = 23
Smon: heh
chris107: Yay Kjato!
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d8+2 and gets: 8, (+2) = 10
Amalric: that'll work!
Smon: I can't believe you hit it with an xbow for max damage!!
Smon: 96 it's taken...
chris107:
Smon: Hakeem attacks...
chris107: Hakeem 3 attacks?
Kjato Ragfoot: (Huh. I must have somehow managed to shoot through one of the plates Hakeem bent)
Smon: (must rem to give it advtg if it survives)
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
19 (+7) = 26
8 (+7) = 15
chris107 Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:

Smon: Wanna roll dmg?
chris107 rolls 8d6+18 and gets: 1, 5, 4, 4, 4, 3, 1, 5, (+18) = 45
Amalric: even half-stoned we're KICKASS!!
chris107:
Smon: The great brute falls to its knees before the blade-storm of the invincible barbarian. Not even the Great Beast of Midor can stand against Bondor's champion!
chris107:
Smon: When the red mist clears, Hakeem stands over a very deceased Gorgon, parts scattered across the chamber.
chris107: Team work!
Kjato Ragfoot: There are celebrations and congratulations!
chris107: Phew
Amalric: that was nicely done! a terrific xbow shot, a terrific dagger throw, and we even brought Conan to the party :D:D:D
chris107: We did it chaps
Kjato Ragfoot: Wow. I thought we were toast for sure.
chris107: me too.
Amalric: same here, especially when you and I both failed our first saves Kjato!
Smon: Yeah, I was thinking TPK for a bit there.
Smon: Slightly amazed how it turned out.
chris107: That's when we do our best work
Smon: Did Rey make his save vs Shatter?
chris107: No we rob the place blind!
Amalric: Bjornalf didn't cast it
Smon: oh, right
chris107: He fired his x bow instead
Smon: you shot it!
Smon:
Smon: /roll d20x3
Smon Rolls 1d20x3 and gets:
8 = 8
4 = 4
11 = 11
Amalric: my mind was turning back to the last campaign, and the TPK there "OH NOT AGAIN!!"
Kjato Ragfoot: Now, I want to know what those books are about.
chris107: Yeah we really pushed our luck tonight
Smon: You search the chamber - Rey finds the east wall is hollow, possibly a secret door.
Smon: Bjornalf finds most of the books are ruined and moldy, but two scroll cases radiate faint magic. One is black ebony, the other white ivory.
Smon: Do you want to open them?
Amalric: later?
Kjato Ragfoot: No. I will simply put them into my backpack.
chris107: lets have a short rest first
chris107: just incase anything else is to fight
Smon: ok. You settle down for a short rest, during which Rey can locate the catch to the secret door on the east wall.
chris107 rolls 3d12+12 and gets: 10, 3, 7, (+12) = 32
Smon: Hakeem uses the last of his hd to heal 32, so down 12.
chris107: 70/82
Smon: Bjornalf is out of healing dice, but does get his spells back.
Amalric: apart from almost being stoned to death Rey is pretty healthy
Smon: ok I'll stop there; well done!

chris107: Cheers guys!
Kjato Ragfoot: Good night everyone!
Amalric: can we see behind the secret door?
chris107: G'night Kjato
9:47pm  2015-9-11 Kjato Ragfoot Has exited the room
Smon: Next week!
Amalric: LOL fair enough
chris107: Hoping that should have got H to 8th
Smon: I'd think so, that was a lot of fights!
Amalric: how far is Rey from 8th? country mile?
Smon: I'll give a few XP for traps & gnomes too.
Smon: Yeah Rey is behind Bjornalf, he missed out on some sweet XP dumps from end of Liberation of the Demon Slayer I think.
chris107: Then all we have to worry about is a pissed off Arch-Mage
Amalric: bugger
chris107: So same time next week?
Amalric: ?
chris107: The game. Same time next week?
chris107: Or is Simon totting up our XP?
Amalric: must be using a calculator!
chris107: A BIG one
Amalric: and yes I know you meant the game, I was asking the same question, just in a lazier fashion
chris107: Ah!
Smon: 7pm next Friday, yup
Amalric: a BIG calculator, that runs to 12 digits?
chris107: And we're playing on Monday?
Smon: Yes I'm doing XP now
Amalric: i'll try and be on time next week
chris107:
Amalric: we are playing Monday Chris, 7:30 as usual
chris107: yup
chris107: We're getting pretty powerful now.
chris107: Just a shame about Iron's encounter with the Wraith.
Amalric: yes, he'll make it back in time
Smon: Award is 2683, yes Hakeem levels up.
Amalric: doubt you'll find a 16th level cleric anywhere though
chris107: YAY!
Amalric: he'd be the most powerful figure in the land
chris107: 16th is a big ask
Amalric: like Hakeem
chris107: +2 Constitution I think Simon
Smon: ok
Amalric: not sure i've ever fought a Gorgon before, without it being fireballed or w/e in about 10 seconds
chris107: 20 Constitution should take him over a hundred HP
Amalric: was a suitable epic fight!
chris107: with an epic ending
Smon: I might come to your Monday game G if I'm free. Maybe I could play the competent NPC this time.
Amalric: LOL you're very welcome
Smon:
Amalric: no-one played Zang this Monday past
chris107: It will be nice to have some competence on the team
Amalric: did have a couple of watchers but no takers
Amalric: next Monday will be session 30
Amalric: 30!
chris107: Nice one! Time just flies by.
Amalric: some way short of Redstar, but quite a feat. had no idea how it would go
chris107: It's really coming together
Amalric: funny how its the places that aren;t mapped out that the players want to stay, and the ones that are mapped out are, "lets stay the night and move on first thing!"
chris107: And only a couple of deaths so far.
Smon: xp Hakeem, Barbarian LEVEL 7 XP 2683+32,167=3485034000 Bjornalf Brighteyes Warlock LEVEL 7 XP 2683+26195=28878/34000 Rey Rogue LEVEL 7 XP 2683+25290=27973/34000 Eardvulf LEVEL 6 XP 14100/23000
Amalric: I am behind
chris107: Sods law Graham.
Amalric: yes only a couple of deaths in my campaign, but you guys are all so hard to hit
Smon: Hakeem, Barbarian LEVEL 7>8 XP 2683+32,167=34850/34000> 34850/48000
chris107: And that's without the HUGE treasure behind the secret door
Amalric: thought the wraith might claim someone but had to settle for 1 level
Amalric: ah yes, the 90,000 gold pieces and the 12 magic items!
chris107: Yay for magical stuff.
Smon:
chris107: Hakeem misses Demonslayer (a bit)
Smon: Yeah, now you have to fight the monstrous forces of nightmare with mortal steel!
Smon: At least in 5e it's doable!
chris107: No problem.
chris107: Good honest steel
Smon: I like how 5e makes a Conanesque campaign viable.
Amalric: indeed
chris107: yeah it has a good raw feel to it.
Smon: I love the feel of this game, I think the PCs are a perfect fit.
Smon: A Bard/Wizard/Cleric group wouldn't be the same.
Amalric: I agree on the PCs it does work very well
chris107: Rey seems to be trying to fit in to every woman we come across!
Amalric: much better than Runelords in fact, 3 fighters was not a good mix
Smon: (On rpgnet they've been discussing 5e Wizard/Bard spells, a lot of them are pretty overpowered IMO and make a very very high magic feel)
Amalric: although i did love that campaign
chris107: Runelords was excellent.
Amalric: Rey still wants to see Alli listed in hsi retinue on the blog
Smon: Yeah Bjornalf works well w Rey & Hakeem, you have a good skill mix and usually the NPC girls can heal you.
chris107: I've not actually looked at the spells in the PHB yet.
Smon: I guess it's time I added Alli to Rey's page.
Amalric: I did kinda create a Lance-lite when I made Rey, but there are some subtle differences (outside of different class), and I really enjoy playing him
Amalric: it works much better
chris107: I feel I may actually have a character survive in this game
Amalric: and I planned on buying a 5E PHB in Florida, mapped out a couple of game stores, but never found the time to get there. and didn't see a single bookshop otherwise
chris107: I got mine from thiEfBay
chris107: some bargains to be had.
Amalric: there is a local gaming shop in Dundee, went in it a few months ago - they were asking £34 for the 5E PHB!
Smon: WotC have a nice HTML version of their Basic 5e rules which include Rogues but not the Assassin build.
chris107: That seems about right
Amalric: sorry, DMG, but i figured if they got a PHB it'd be about the same
chris107: I think I paid £30
chris107: postage free
Amalric: seen them on ebay for £25 usually, saw one cheaper but missed the deadline
Smon: 5e Basic rules inc Rogues - http://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop/players-basic-rules
Smon: Cheapest PHB on amazon £17.65

chris107: wow
Amalric: nice
chris107: good deal
