15/2 battle w Typhoon the pirate chief, Hakeem slays him.
17/2 reach Selatine.

Smon: 15/2/4447
Smon: >>Strapping back on armour and sword he will go up on deck for some fresh air and to stretch his aching muscles. Enquiring of the ships position he will look around for anyone he knows. He has much to do and little time to do it in. He wonders how Lord Bronze, Sandor, Gracyone and his friend Ursa are getting on looking for the Arch Mage Dyson. Could he really still be alive and a Dragon? He pats the hilt of his sword reassuringly, allowing himself to daydream about fighting one of those mighty beasts of legend.<<
Smon: /roll d8
Smon rolls 1d8 and gets: 8,
chris107: A fine day it is too
Smon: GM: Hakeem strides on deck. The ship is tacking north against the prevailing northwesterly headwind, rather slowly, for the breeze is light and an oddly glimmering grey-white mist hangs in the morning air.
Smon: Ajax comes up on deck too, collar up against the unseasonal chill.
chris107: He enquires of a sailor if this is usual?
Smon: You see Shipmaster Becks at the prow, scanning the sea ahead. Visibility is only a few hundred yards.
chris107: "Ajax." He greets the wizard cordially
Smon: Becks shakes his head. "Not usual, no. I don't much like this - mist should be liftin' by this time... but we're in Crimson Bay, passed the reefs. Should be clear run to Diancecht waters."
Sandor Sunneson: I could cast Fly on you Hakeem if you fancy investigating?
Smon: Suddenly you hear a holler from the crow's nest above: "Ship ahoy Cap'n! Behind to port!"
Smon: Becks frowns, looks left and behind him.
chris107: "How long does that last Master Vex? I'd sink like a stone in this armour if it failed while I was over the sea."
Sandor Sunneson: Ajax turns around
Smon: Out of the mist you see a large dark ship on an intercept course, some 200 yards off.
Smon: Where your sails are almost slack, the stranger's billow with a stern wind.
chris107: (Don't supose we still have the Fish God's water breathing upon us?)
Sandor Sunneson: ten minutes
Smon: Becks pales. "By the damned!"
chris107: Hakeem finds some cover against the rails and watches.
Sandor Sunneson: Please call me Ajax
chris107: "What is it Becks?"
chris107: "You know this vessel?"
Smon: The princess cast it on you again when you got back to the Foamrunner yesterday morning.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
Smon: You have 40 minutes left.
chris107: Oh bugger
Smon: Becks: "Sorcery! Only one ship in these waters has such - the Mange, a pirate..."
Sandor Sunneson: Ajax will cast mage armour on himself
chris107: "The pirates have a pet wizard? "
Smon: He makes a sign against evil. "She has a Sea Druid. Her captain, Typhoon, they call him the Titan's Bastard. Eight feet tall. They say he's killed a thousand men."
chris107: "I look forward to meeting him."
Sandor Sunneson: I can cast haste on you Hakeem, however be warned, it only lasts a minute
chris107: "Ajax, can you keep a sea druid busy while I have a little chat with this Typhoon fellow?"
chris107: "Try make sure she doesn't sink us."
Smon: Becks: "I don't... Mister Gabwell! Any chance we can outrun them?!"
Smon: At the wheel, the enormous First Mate looks back, shakes his head. "Naw."
chris107: "Then I'll go grab my shield."
Smon: The pirate ship is getting closer. Now you can see the black penants on her masts. Becks: "They're a Brotherhood ship..." he looks thoughtful. "Meritxell, go get the Lady and Miss Fortin."
Smon: Hakeem heads down to grab his shield and ready himself...
Smon: brb 4 mins
chris107: He will wrap himself up in his shabby old cloak.
chris107: What spells you got prepared there Fergus?
chris107: And what do they do?
Smon: potato exploded, hate it when that happens
Smon: lucky I made 2!
Sandor Sunneson: invisibility
chris107:
Sandor Sunneson: fly
chris107: Don't want you wasting away on us Simon
Sandor Sunneson: mirror image
Smon: i'll be ok
Smon: loads of cheese & butter
chris107: yum!
Smon: Hakeem rejoins the others to find all hands are on deck, with a frightened looking Lady Lucretia in a Ralluan day gown and Brionny in her sailor-girl outfit.
Sandor Sunneson: Ajax will cast invis and fly on himself
Smon: those are 2 conc spells
Smon: You have about 2 minutes
Smon: Becks calls you all plus the mates together for council.
chris107: Hakeem whistles happily.
chris107: Looking forward to taking this Typhoon's head.
Smon: Becks: "That's a Brotherhood ship. They follow the Pirates' Code. If we don't resist they'll just take the cargo. If we fight... they must outnumber us four to one."
chris107: And plundering the Pirate vessel to go towards school fees and such.
Sandor Sunneson: Do you want fly cAST on you Hakeem?#
Sandor Sunneson: Or invisitbility?
Smon: Gabwell: "So we surrender, Cap'n?"
chris107: "They will soon flee when I throw their masters head at their feet."
chris107: "No thanks Ajax, I like my enemy to see who's killing them."
Smon: Becks nods. "Our only chance is not to fight. They'll slaughter us if we give battle."
chris107: "I could slow them down a bit if you like?"
Smon: On the approaching ship you can now make out a massive stern ballista, and dozens of heavy crossbowmen at the balustrade.
Sandor Sunneson: Ok, will cat fly on you?
chris107: "Or maybe Ajax can enspell 'em?"
Sandor Sunneson: I'll cast confusion on them
Smon: At the prow you see a massive warrior, far bigger even than Hakeem, holding a gigantic great axe that seems to flicker with demonic light.
Smon: "Typhoon!"
chris107: "No good if you loose concentration while I'm over the sea, I'll take my chances thanks."
Smon: http://www.tutorialchip.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Conan-The-Pirate-520x722.jpg
Smon: Demon axe - https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/003/474/368/large/andre-aspirany-pic-2.jpg?1474069110
chris107: "He is big isn't he?"
Sandor Sunneson: Haste?
Sandor Sunneson: lol, sorry getting used to this
Sandor Sunneson: Caste haste on Hakeem
Smon: Range now 100 yards, 1 minute to closing.
chris107: "HAIL THERE TYPHOON! TURN YOUR LITTLE SHIP AROUND AND LIVE ANOTHER DAY!"
chris107: Why?
chris107: They are no where near us
Smon: The giant laughs: "Stand down and prepare for boarding!"
chris107: "LAST CHANCE!"
Sandor Sunneson: Ok, will cast confusion on the pirates archers to when they get to under 90 feet
Smon: You see dozens of pirates reading Corvus spiked gangplanks for the boarding.
chris107: That's the ticket Fergus
Smon: Their deck is high enough they'll be able to crash them down on deck and have three streams of pirates pour out.
chris107: "Ladies, you may want to get to safety."
Sandor Sunneson: I'll cast confusion on the pirates on the gangplanks GM
chris107: "Lock yourselves in your cabins."
Smon: Becks looks incredulous at Hakeem and Ajax: "Fight?! They'll kill you - then they'll kill *us*!"
Sandor Sunneson: Will start casting as ship is just over 90 feet away so once spell is finished, they are within the zone
Smon: Lucretia: "Becks is an experienced seaman Lord Hakeem, shouldn't we listen to him? We can afford to lose cargo."
Smon: Hakeem & Ajax can make raw INT checks.
Smon: DC 12
chris107: Does it look like Typhoon is coming over first? Or sending his men?
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets: 20,
Smon: He's not right at the planks.
chris107: Hakeem positions himself at the plank nearest to Typhoon.
Smon: Hakeem has been around Sarene a good bit. What Becks is saying is only partially true - the Pirates' Code does say not to kill those who don't fight back... But any women on the ship are fair game for taking.
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 6,
Smon: Also, Becks must know this.
Smon: (Ajax failed)
Sandor Sunneson: still a pass
Smon: raw INT check so fail
Sandor Sunneson: Int 18?
Smon: 6+4=10 vs DC 12
chris107: "I'll not see the ladies taken back into salvery Becks."
Sandor Sunneson: ah ol
Sandor Sunneson: k
chris107: Hakeem's plan
chris107: As the planks come down and the pirates surge accross.
Smon: Lucretia shudders: "Come Brionny, let's take shelter." She leads her assistant into their cabin.
chris107: He will be at the one closest to Typhoon.
chris107: When the planks are full of pirates and Typhoon is in line H will lightning bolt through a line of them and strike Typhoon with it.
Smon: Meritxell the half-elf looks incredulous at Becks: "You were going to let them take us as slaves!"
chris107: Perhaps Ajax could mirror this on his crowded gang plank?
Sandor Sunneson: ok, will do
Smon: Becks shrugs. "Better that than death. C'mon Gabwell - let's get under cover. Maybe they'll spare us!"
Sandor Sunneson: not confusion then?
Smon: 30 secs
chris107: Whilts the pirates are confounded by this and Confusion, Hakeem will drive his way on board the Mange and slay Typhoon.
chris107: Whilts the pirates are confounded by this and Confusion, Hakeem will drive his way on board the Mange and slay Typhoon.
chris107: Whilts the pirates are confounded by this and Confusion, Hakeem will drive his way on board the Mange and slay Typhoon.
chris107: Whilts the pirates are confounded by this and Confusion, Hakeem will drive his way on board the Mange and slay Typhoon.
chris107: That would be my plan. I'll stick to my end of it.
Smon: 150' away, the pirate x-bowmen watch and laugh as the Garland's crew run below decks like frightened rabbits.
Sandor Sunneson: Ajax will finish his confusion spell
chris107: Hakeen takes cover behind good solid wood
Smon: Hakeem notes the massive Ballista is trained on him personally,
chris107: He is wraped in his old cloak?
Sandor Sunneson: Is that like a big bow and arrow?
Smon: Meritxell looks to Hakeem and Ajax, then ducks behind solid cover of the main mast.
chris107: Aye
Smon: Ajax casts Confusion at 24 secs to boarding.
chris107: "Can you do anything about that wizard?"
Sandor Sunneson: Nice,
Smon: Sorry range 90' so 12 secs to boarding
chris107: H crouches low, waiting to spring up and execute his plan only when there are a hefty number of pirates between him and the ballista.
Smon: Who are you centring it on Ajax? You can make a WIS check to spot more targets.
Smon: A female pirate commands the ballista crew -
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 19,
Smon: sorry URL too long
chris107: Good roll Fergus
Sandor Sunneson: A group of them who are about to board so they start fighting amongst themselves
Smon: Ajax also spots a pirate leader readying the boarders - https://www.3dtotal.com/admin/new_cropper/gallery_originals/2011-07-14(90819)_pirate1.jpg
chris107: At the third gang plank maybe?
Sandor Sunneson: that was a long sentence to type
chris107: So we have one gang plank each to blast.
Sandor Sunneson: Ok, on him and whoeever is around him
chris107: Now that' s a pirate!
Sandor Sunneson: Does he have a Cornish accent?
chris107: You good to take a gang plank of pirates with a spell Ajax?
Sandor Sunneson: Got confusion heading their way Hakeem
Sandor Sunneson: Will follow it up with a fireball hopefully
chris107: Arewe sticking to Hakeem's plan?
Sandor Sunneson: Yes, gangplank each
Sandor Sunneson: ?
chris107: One gang plank each and the third hit with confusion?
Smon: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBuIzmaAUwFQtWb0nF45j395Zjb07b_M_ZN2dxp6SyFqhP_oXD5ojpy6f_nLG5mvyZSmm-wTdaCyxRAKAYIHVA7_b0ilJs0rLSoH_x1w1zeK1fZKfbWvVuc23dOCCYO7RYAeH35hheHFk/s1600/Dina.jpg
Sandor Sunneson: Ok
chris107: (OOC what range and aoe is fireball in 5e Fergus? Don't fry both ships!)
chris107: (If both set on fire it's a long swim.)
Sandor Sunneson: 120 feet
Sandor Sunneson: Was going to aim it at the ballista
chris107: (and how far away is the pirate ship?)
Sandor Sunneson: Ok, will LB gangplank after confusion
Smon: GM: Hakeem & Meritxell are behind cover. Ajax stands out as the pirates approach.
Smon: Typhoon yells: "Ho there! Prepare for boarding!"
Smon: 60' now. You could cast confusion (20' diameter) at: the leader at the prow, 1 of the 3 gangplanks, or the ballista & a few Xbowmen in rearcastle.
Smon: Ship is about 120' long.
8:10pm  2017-5-25 Smon Has exited the room
chris107: Then I'd do it while you can without setting us all on fire
Sandor Sunneson: As he's cast confusion, he'll fireball pirate ship
chris107: (Sorry Hakeem does not know this stuff, I'll shut up)
Sandor Sunneson: Sorrry Chris, I've not played MU before
Sandor Sunneson: G1 makes it look too easy
chris107: This is a bad time and place to learn!
Sandor Sunneson: He has now cast confusion as far as I'm aware, so will fireball their ship
chris107: Two ships at sea
chris107: And what effect does confusion have?
chris107: Is it an area?
chris107: Duration?
8:10pm  2017-5-25 Smon Has entered the room
Sandor Sunneson: it means the men start fighting each other
chris107: Can we enter the area without becoming confused?
Smon: concentration, up to 1 minute. Can enter affected area.
Sandor Sunneson: It doesn't impact you, am casting it on the pirates
chris107: Oh well, I'm in your hands Fergus
Smon: You should get around 15 pirates in it.
Sandor Sunneson: doesn't impact us, aiming it at the opposotion
Sandor Sunneson: exactly
Sandor Sunneson: 15 pirates
chris107: But what if I enter the area of effect?
Smon: You centre it on the pirate lt in the middle.
Sandor Sunneson: and 1 leader hopefuuly in that 15
Smon: OK
chris107: Does it have a duration?
Smon: GM: concentration, up to 1 minute. Can enter affected area.
chris107: Thanks
Smon: GM: Ajax casts - ripples of confusion waft over the pirates...
Smon: Save DC?
Smon: (you never sent me a PC sheet Fergus)
Smon: INT 18 & Level 8 = save DC 15 I count
Sandor Sunneson: Wisdom saving throw
Sandor Sunneson: asting Time: 1 action Range: 90 feet Components: V, S, M (three nut shells) Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute This spell assaults and twists creatures' minds, spawning delusions and provoking uncontrolled action. Each creature in a 10-foot-radius sphere centered on a point you choose within range must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw when you cast this spell or be affected by it. An affected target can’t take reactions and must roll a d10 at the start of each of its turns to determine its behavior for that turn.  1 The creature uses all its movement to move in a random direction. To determine the direction, roll a d8 and assign a direction to each die face. The creature doesn’t take an action this turn. 2-6 The creature doesn’t move or take actions this turn. 7-8 The creature uses its action to make a melee attack against a randomly determined creature within its reach. If there is no creature within its reach, the creature does nothing this turn. 9-10 The creature can act and move normally. At the end of each of its turns, an affected target can make a Wisdom saving throw. If it succeeds, this effect ends for that target. At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the radius of the sphere increases by 5 feet for each slot level above 4th.

Smon: Typhoon: "That one! Kill that one!"
Sandor Sunneson: As I cast mage armour on myself, that makes no difference?

Sandor Sunneson: Ursa would be good with that axe
chris107: "Who's next?"
Smon: They push forward the male lieutenant you saw earlier.
chris107: He will kick the axe into the sea if he can. Demon cursed thing.
Smon: He coughs nervously, eyeing the demon before him. "err..."

Smon: He jerks a thumb over near the main mast.
Smon: Hakeem sees two pirates propping up a semi-conscious Ajax.
chris107: "Then do you want to stay in charge Birek, or follow your dead master to hell?"
Smon: Ajax you can groan & talk but no spells.
Smon: Birek: "We're one for one right now. Reckon we're good. We'll just be leaving... And your friend there lives. Or he can die now. Your choice."
chris107: "You can sail away, master of a full crew and a fine ship."
chris107: "Just leave us in peace."
Smon: Birek nods, grins. "Aye."
Smon: Dina calls from the ballista: "Aye Aye Capn Birek!"
chris107: "Typhoon picked the wrong ship." He grins at the new captain. "Make better choices my friend. "
Smon: The pirates raise a ragged cheer. "Birek! Birek!" Birek smiles, straightening his shoulders. "He did pick a bad un at that. Ere, you ain't really Bondor?"
chris107: "Who knows?" He winks and walks slowly back aboard his own ship.
Smon: The pirates start to back up the gangplank. Birek: "You two, prop that man up by the gunwhale."
chris107: "I should throw you over the side." he smiles at Ajax.
chris107: Make sure they have no prisoners with them.
Smon: Birek looks after Hakeem, eyes wide. He scratches his chin. "Stranger things happen at sea..."
chris107: "Fare well my pirate friend."
Sandor Sunneson: As long as I have my gloves of swimming on I'll be fine
Smon: Ajax opens his eyes, sees Hakeem leaning over him as 60 pirates leave the Garland empty handed.
chris107: Hakeem looks on whistfully. secretly wishing it was he sailing away with a jolly crew to wild adventure.
chris107: "You'll live Master Vex."
Smon: The decks are clear now but for the dead. As they raise the crows, your gaze settles on the bodies of Typhoon and Meritxell, impaled by the massive shaft.
chris107: He does think about throwing Becks overboard though
Smon: The pirate ship disengages.
Smon: As it sails away, Lucretia & Brionny are the first on deck.
Smon: Brionny rushes over to tend to Ajax. "You're hurt!"
chris107: "Cut that brave lass down."
chris107: "And put his head on a spike."
chris107: Search Typhoon of course
Smon: Lucretia looks at the bodies, shudders. "Lord Hakeem - you saved us again. I am forever in your debt."
Smon: Your crew emerge sheepishly, led by Becks.
Smon: Gabwell pulls the spear from Meritxell's body.
chris107: "It's my job." He grins again.
Sandor Sunneson: Not the best start to a sea battle, thank you Hakeem, I apologise for my foolishness, should have just fire balled them
Smon: Lucretia: "She died a hero - she's to be buried with full honours."
chris107: "Next time Master Vex, next time."
Smon: Hakeem rummages through the chief's pockets.
chris107: "She did, Lucretia, and your master there would have packed you off to a life of slavery to save his own skin. Watch him."
Smon: 6 blue sapphire worth 1000 gp each ivory eye patch decorated with diamond & ruby jewels worth 2500gp
Smon: Lucretia gives Becks a bitter look. "It seems I need better men..."
Smon: When Hakeem is done Gabwell and three crew pick up Typhoon's corpse and toss him into the briny deep.
Smon: OOC the eyepatch could likely be enchanted by Meda.
chris107: "Ajax you want some of these Saphires?"
chris107: "I'd like to keep the patch as a memento."
Sandor Sunneson: I don't deserve them but thank you, could maybe turn them into something
chris107: "Of the fellow who killed a thousand men!"
chris107: He pockets the patch and lets the others do what they will with the priceless jewells.
Sandor Sunneson: Ajax takes saphires
chris107: "I need a sit down. Anyone got a tankard of ale?"
Smon: Brionny: "I'll fetch ale milord!"
chris107: short rest?
Smon: Brionny hurries off, returning soon with a foaming tankard, while Hakeem sits pensive on a coiled rope.
Smon: Looking very Frazetta.
chris107: 8 healing dice if so

Smon: Becks and Gabwell look sourly at Hakeem as they get the ship underway, knowing their would-be treachery won't be forgotteb
chris107: I wonder how the Brotherhood will take the news?
Smon: The wind is picking up now, the mysterious sorceries of the pirate vessel have lost their hold.

chris107: "You looking forward to seeing Cousin Jana, Ajax?"
Smon: She gazes out over the sea wistfully. "Sometimes I dream I'm a mermaid, swimming the endless ocean..."

Smon: Harmless seagulls wheel overhead.
chris107: Hakeem looks forward to getting back to dry land. Pirating would be fun but he thinks he's better off on solid ground
Sandor Sunneson: Giant seagulls?
Smon: Brionny looks over at Ajax, smiles and puts a hand on his. "I'm not frightened..."
Smon: The gulls follow your boat, cawing.
chris107: "We need to get Doctor P to Oriax's Tower."
Smon: The cabin boy is mopping up the last of Meritxell's blood from the wooden deck.
Sandor Sunneson: Land pirate Hakeem?
chris107: Hakeem is too much of a goodie really for pirating. Just a pipe dream.
Smon: Brionny: "Apparently the Lady wants a priest to bury Meritxell properly..."
chris107: "Good, she deserves it. Braver thn the master that's for sure."
Smon: Brionny: "Oh yes, your friend. I haven't seen much of her since she came aboard. I don't think she likes the ocean much."
chris107: "Best see she's okay?"
chris107: "The future of the world may depend on that woman."
Sandor Sunneson: We better make sure she hasn't escaped somewhere ??
Smon: Brionny: "I can check on her." She departs.
Smon: A short time later Brionny returns from Rosa's cabin, a distinctly bilious Dr Piercemuller in tow.
chris107: "You okay Rosa? You missed all the fun."
Smon: Rosa waves weakly, a kerchief to her mouth.
Smon: "Uhh... "
Smon: "I heard about it. My head was in a bucket at the time."
chris107: "Safest place."
chris107: "Chin up,there's a whole library to explore soon."
Sandor Sunneson: You'll like Oriax Tower,
Smon: The porcine Gabwell waddles over, grunts: "Cap'n says we'll reach Selatine dawn tomorrow, this weather keeps up."
chris107: "We have to change that name!"
Sandor Sunneson: Nice library, stands out for miles, we'll see the large erection soon enough
Smon: Rosa nods to Gabwell: "Great news!"
chris107: Hakeem agrees.
Sandor Sunneson: Meda's Tower?
Smon: Rosa brightens: "Actually, Oriax Tower is really the Lighthouse of St Ulther, a Nerathi saint and visionary."
Sandor Sunneson: Or it's original name?
Sandor Sunneson: yes, lighthouse of St Ulther
chris107: "A fine idea."
Sandor Sunneson: LISTUL abbrev
Smon: Rosa: "He lit the flame that still burns there today, warning ships from the rocks. His tomb is in cliffs to the north, above the famous Delve of Dyson Logos..."

chris107: (sure)
Smon: Rosa smiles warmly at the appreciation. "Why, I have no idea!"
Smon: The day passes peacefully, you wake next day just before dawn (long rest, 4 hd back) to see the light of Oriax's Tower shining off to the west like a blinking eye.
Sandor Sunneson: St Ulther??
chris107: "Excellent!"
chris107: "Nearly back to Selatine. Where all this began."
chris107: "Wonder what we'll find there?"
Smon: Rosa nods: "Yes!" Just at dawn you round a headland and see ahead of you the lights of Selatine Port, the fishing boats already casting off for a day's trawling.
