Smon: End of last session, Mordred & Zagaar spent a while in Selatine preparing for their new mission
Smon: Jana asks you to help organise the remaining villagers against hobgoblin attack while you rest & ready yourselves; a week passes & you level up. chris107: Sounds good to me 9:21pm 2017-10-05 Prince Skylio Has exited the room 9:21pm 2017-10-05 Prince Skylio Has entered the room chris107: Mordred is good at organising things Smon: Jana: "Well I was at a place called Sandpoint, on the world of Golarion... it was very nice." chris107: And impressing peasants chris107: Standpoint Smon: "A wizard there helped me return here - if you like I could show you the cave where I first... slipped through." Smon: Jana gets a faraway look, remembering past adventures (& past lovers) chris107: "If this cave is a place where the veils betwixt worlds is thin, could this Oriax have used it to make his return?" Smon: Jana nods. "There, or a similar place. Look out for unnatural coolness - a sign of Magicum." Smon: "Magicum erodes the Walls between Worlds, until one can just... fall through." chris107: Mordred listens attentively Prince Skylio: "Mordred is used to being in the presence of unnatural coolness since our travels together. Is it difficult to detect?" chris107: He's very interested in magic Smon: ooc stopping at 10.30 Smon: Jana: "A Detect Magic spell can find Magicum. I hear the Dwarves can sniff it out." chris107: Perfect Simon, we both need to look at the PHB for level 4 stuff Smon: OOC when can you play again? chris107: Both of us? Thurs 12th? Smon: Jana looks thoughtful. "Lady Meda of Thusia would know how to deal with this... But she is far away, and a great war wages in the North. I feel we must deal with this ourselves, before disaster can strike." Smon: OOC next Thursday perfect chris107: Mordred sees an opportunity to gain the fame he so craves Smon: Jana: "I had though my adventuring days past, but if you wish, I will accompany you against this evil."
chris107: Mordred looks thoughtful. It would seem that some in Selatine know of this oriax?
Smon: There you go Chris http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/chris-game-session-3.html
chris107: Thanks simon
Smon: @ChrisB since being washed up on the rocks & rescued by local fishermen a few days ago (Happy Iocunnu & the Vex Gratitude) you have been recuperating at Selatine's Scalpy Inn, run by Happy's old friend Scalpy Jack.
thescificultist: Corax has recently washed up on the shore and is looking for a way to earn a living...
Smon: The handsome Altanian has been enjoying the attentions of the bar wenches Alauna & Cleo, but his coin purse is distinctly empty.
chris107: "Zagaar, what we need is another brain dead thug like you."
Smon: Scalpy: "Friend Corax, the Lady Vex seeks stout warriors such as yourself for a mission, if ye're recovered?"
chris107: "Someone who can kill Hobgoblins by the dozen."
chris107: "Where are we likely to find such a dolt at short notice?W"
thescificultist: Well I've taken care of all my other needs, bashing someheads and earning a coin would be good!
thescificultist: where might I find this lady?
Smon: Scalpy grins: "Dungeon work, I hear - plenty of gold, but don't end up like me!"
Smon: He grins, patting the left side of his head that is a mass of scar tissue where his scalp used to be.
Prince Skylio: "The Verminator can only vanquish so many rodent souls. And it has just been upgraded... I suppose some assistance wouldn't go unnoticed"
7:11pm 2017-10-12 sandor sunneson Has entered the room
chris107: Hi Fegus
Prince Skylio: Hi Fergus
sandor sunneson: evening boys
Smon: "She's meeting with Sir Mordred and the half-orc Zagaar at Vex Villa across the square."
thescificultist: Hi
Smon: Hi Fergus
chris107: "Perhaps if i send Misha to search the lands here abouts we may find someone?"
thescificultist: half-orc?
thescificultist: what a place this is...
sandor sunneson: 10 Americans on a tour to St Andrews and an afternoon appointment at the Eden Mill gin distillery, sorry I'm a bit late
Smon: last session http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/level-3-to-4-to-29347-menace-of-oriax.html
Smon: we just started, no bother
chris107: Just in time Fergus.
Smon: Sandro is leaving the Scalpy Inn to join Mordred & Zagaar over at Vex Villa, he sees Scalpy at the bar chatting with a mighty-thewed barbarian.
Smon: Corax - http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/pc-corax-barbarian-chris-b-pc-hoard.html
sandor sunneson: He'll nod in their general direction
thescificultist: Corax lifts his axe and starts across the square after him.
Smon: Scalpy nods to Corax: "Aye, well this Zagaar is a good sort by all accounts, helped rescue a shepherd up in Bratanis. Keep him away from the sheep though!"
chris107: (Nice character, ChrisB 0
thescificultist: cheers
Smon: GM: The newcomer Corax and the Ralluan Monk Sandro enter Vex Villa, Lady Vex's man Vuthrik the Deathwalker meets them and escorts them to her hall, where Jana is breakfasting with mighty Zagaar and wise Mordred the Avalonian.
Smon: Jana is wearing a brand new bronze breastplate shaped to fit her curves, with a shortsword at her belt and a bronze-faced shield to hand.
chris107: Mordred looks the new fellow over. He whispers to the stinking Orc beside him. "Hmmm just the kind of brain dead thug we were looking for?"
sandor sunneson: Melons for breakfast Zagaar?
Prince Skylio: Zagaar ignores Mordred as food is present
Smon: The curvaceous young lady of Selatine smiles at the newcomers. "Welcome. You are Corax? Happy Iocunnu told me he fished a warrior from the sea some days back?"
thescificultist: Well, I hear you boys have a job you cant handle?
chris107: Mordred rises and bows floridly to the newcomer. his satin cape whirls theatricaly.
thescificultist: Corax, flushes at the sight...stamming over his words..its..been a tough month
Smon: Jana minus the breastplate - https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7JXIWz-vvOMelJgzTdBM9ytzzng-gDehn7-24G4CQAhrG3NY3l1y0ursccWiZZhuWb3yGxFrpBKf49qsC45CgYsCfGuvjjnbj4DwF4AghKGGFZMSEVh9LwqNdNkVcv6w4NLmOPG8-kUI/s400/Jana+Vex.jpg
Smon: Vuthrik: "These two will join the expedition, Lady Vex. Yes?"
Smon: The dark warrior glares at Corax and Sandro.
Smon: Jana nods: "We certainly have need of you, my friends. All our trained warriors are heading north to join Hakeem in the Great War against the Black Sun."
Smon: Lady Vex has the refined accent of the nobility, but still seems somewhat unaccustomed to rule.
Smon: She produces a note, and unfurls it on the table...
chris107: "I'm sure they will do just fine my lady."
Smon: "To the Soldiers of the Hobgoblin Occupation Army. You are instructed to enact My Revenge upon the Curst Ville of Selatine. When all is Ready, Strike Down Upon them with Furious Vengeance! Slay the Men and take the Women to the Portal, that I may Enjoy them. - Oriax, the Horned Goat."
sandor sunneson: How many soldiers was this aimed at ??
Smon: Jana: "Mordred and Zagaar found this on the body of a hobgoblin, near the old prison dungeon called Stonehell, eight miles west of here."
Prince Skylio: "I can only think of one war of which my loyalty could be pledged. And that would be the war of Berta's heart. May her cabbages be forever blossomed"
chris107: "After all, even a base beast like zagaar has proved he can be useful...at times."
sandor sunneson: OOC- Chris, is Oriax on Hakeem's wanted list?
thescificultist: What have you done to rile this Oriax M'lady?
chris107: Fergus. OOC - Very much so.
Smon: Jana: "Oriax the Goat, the Horned Wizard, is a foul beast. He fled across the planes to escape Hakeem's wrath. But somehow he has found a way back, in Stonehell we think, where the walls between worlds are thin."
Smon: "I was his prisoner, briefly..." Jana shudders at the memory.
Prince Skylio: "Where did he keep you prisoner"
chris107: (@ DM during our wait can Mordred enchant a Weapon Bond with his newly silvered sword?0
Smon: I dunno what do rules say?
chris107: (Rules say yes. takes an hour )
Smon: Jana looks at Sandro: "He ...he fastened me to his carriage."
Smon: (ok then)
thescificultist: And how did you escape?
chris107: (Thanks, don't like to take for granted)
Smon: "But that does not matter now. We must locate this portal the note speaks of. I will employ the power of Apoll-Mitra and attempt to Seal it."
sandor sunneson: We're so relieved you got out alive, Mitra was watching over you hen
Smon: "I was rescued, by Lord Hakeem."
chris107: "Why this hakeem sounds like a splendid fellow, my lady?"
thescificultist: Lord Hakeem is a great warrior then.
sandor sunneson: Nothing compared to Ursa the Dwarf
sandor sunneson: This is what I've heard
Smon: "Ursa? Hakeem's servant?"
Smon: Jana looks puzzled.
chris107: Mordred too looks perplexed.
Smon: "We should get going. I have never been to Stonehell, Mordred I will follow your lead in this."
sandor sunneson: He is the bravest midget and will take on anything
Smon: She looks hopefully at the bluish skinned Avalonian knight.
thescificultist: Forgive me m'lady, I wish to accompany you on this journey, but I washed ashore days ago and have nothing but this axe and my wits...
thescificultist: would there be compensation involved?
Prince Skylio: "Enough of this Hakeem fellow. The Verminator is in immaculate condition and cares only for the blood of lesser scum. When I find Oriax we will be dining upon goat steak"
chris107: "Lady Vex, as always your wisdom is beyond reproach. If you do not mind travelling in such rough company? Perhaps we should begin?"
Smon: Jana smiles. "Of course." She turns to Corax. "I will reward your service with whatever is within my power."
chris107: "Some trousers for our new barbarous friend at least?"
sandor sunneson: There are fantastic spas here to clean yourseff should you wish, sure the maidens will assist you if required too.
thescificultist: sorry the sea shrank my loin cloth..
Smon: Jana ignores Mordred's strange hangups.
thescificultist: i'll try to tuck it in.
chris107:
Prince Skylio: "The maidens haven't assisted me...."
Smon: Lady Vex leads you out the villa and through the west gate to the fields and meadowlands beyond.
Smon: A hot sunny day.
chris107: "that's because you stink, Zagaar."
Smon: To the north the gorge of the fast flowing Thrace river.
Prince Skylio: "of passion"
Smon: West a couple miles from town the sheep-grazed meadows turn to rolling heathlands.
chris107: Mordred shakes his head but releases misha the magnificent to scout ahead and enjoy the sunshine.
Smon: You head west across the open plain. To the north the dark expanse of the Thracian woods, to the west rise the arcadian expanses of the wild Ghinarian Hills.
Prince Skylio: Z whistles for Fangtang wolf to folow
Prince Skylio: follow*
sandor sunneson: Sandro will scout ahead
Smon: Fantang trots along behind Zagaar, his wound now healed, looking much like a dog.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
thescificultist: Corax gazes in wonder at the unfamiliar lands and companny
chris107: Mordred looks sourly at the Orc.
Smon: You see little sign of life; after a couple hours at a good pace you near the woods that rise a mile or so east of the hills' edge, and find the spot where Mordred & Zagaar slew the hobgoblins.
chris107: Mordred points out the site of the battle to lady Vex.
Smon: The bodies are gone but there is some dried blood & gore, signs of predators - a mountain lion, wolves and a large bear have been here.
Prince Skylio: "Be on the lookout. We don't want to get amushed again"
Smon: The undergrowth has regrown where the hobs waited in ambush, near the track that leads west to Stonehell gorge.
chris107: Mordred nods his agreement.
Smon: You can make any checks you like, passive perception is automatic
chris107: "Sandro will no doubt scream if he finds anything."
Smon: Sandro enters the trees; less than a mile of woodland from here to the gorge. All seems quiet.
Smon: Let me know what you're doing.
chris107: Mordred will also call back Misha and slip her up his wizard's sleeve. No point risking her if Sandro is willing to scout ahead.
chris107: Mordred lurks obsequiously beside lady Vex.
sandor sunneson: Sandro happy to scout ahead
Smon: To the gorge?
chris107: Pointing out salient facts about the topography etc.
sandor sunneson: Direction Stonehell?
thescificultist: Corax keeps an eye out for useful flora.
chris107: "Where we found the beetle."
Smon: Nature check WIS+prof
chris107: He hisses at the Monk.
thescificultist rolls 1d20+1 and gets: 15, (+1) = 16
Smon: Corax feels at home in the sun-dappled forest. He soon collects enough herbs for a healing potion.
sandor sunneson rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 10, (+2) = 12
sandor sunneson: WIS 14
Smon: Sandor leads the group along the trail until the trees open out to a craggy gorge, bisected by a crumbling curtain wall - Stonehell.
thescificultist: Will I still have to try and make the potion?
Smon: It looks to Sandor the track has not been used recently.
Smon: Yeah, that'd be Medicine or Alchemy
sandor sunneson: He'll pass that onto the group
chris107: (Map link please, Simon?)

thescificultist: thanks
chris107: thanks
Smon: Sandro notices faded grafitti on the central gatehouse.
Smon: Two great iron bound doors now lie fallen before the central passageway in a state of advanced decay.
chris107: Sandro has entered via north a again?
Smon: (grafitti B, passage C)
sandor sunneson: Does he recognise the writing?
Smon: No you are east of the gatehouse
chris107: thanks
Smon: Six arrowslits run along the upper level, with crumbling battlements above.
chris107: So central passage C, gatehouse?
Smon: Common - Ghinarian
sandor sunneson: can he make out what the script says?
Smon: Some writing looks Dwarvish, some old stuff even Elvish, and Goblin scrawls too.
Smon: You'll need to creep closer to read it.
Smon: Can make Stealth roll DEX+Prof
chris107: Mordred, remembering he thought he saw movement within the gatehouse warns those of his friends close to hand.
Smon: #A on map is the areas of tumbled wall N & S of the gatehouse

Smon: Sandro makes out the nearest scrawls.
Smon: The little scaly bastards can't be trusted - they turned on us, killed Sydel, and stole all our gold! Kill on sight!
Smon: Look for the cave with the well - it will grant your greatest wish if you throw in enough gold
Smon: Be careful in the lowest depths of Stonehell. The rooms change and what was once, no longer stands
thescificultist: Are we to advance?
Smon: Those are the ones Sandro can decipher from cursory examination.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
sandor sunneson: Sandro will rejoin the rest and pass on script messages to his pal
sandor sunneson: s
Smon: Jana listens, nodding. "The main entrance should be at the west end of the Canyon."
sandor sunneson: wonder who they mean by the scaly bastard
sandor sunneson: s
Smon: "Is the gatehouse passage safe, or should we climb over the fallen wall?"
sandor sunneson: no doubt we'll meet em
chris107: Mordred points ahead to the chambers along the north wall. Explaining how horrid beetles were found within. "Proceed warily my friends. I shall protect lady Vex."
thescificultist: and whos gona protect you?
Smon: Jana: "Let's go that way."
chris107: "Why the Gods." says Mordred mysteriously..
Smon: She rises from cover and beckons you to follow her over the northern gap (#A)
Smon: Crossing the rocks, you pass the tunnel entrance to #2, where Mordred defeated a mountain lion with thunderclap.
chris107: M keeps close to the daring aristocrat.
thescificultist: Corax, lets out a laugh and slaps M on the back
Smon: The remains of tumbled walls of several large buildings are cloaked in vines.
chris107: Mordred looks horrified that this barbarian has touched him.
chris107: But says nothing.
thescificultist: Summiting the rumble C immediately looks for undergorth to conceal himself in
Smon: #6, 7 & 8 seem unremarkable but for the many weeds that grow from within.
sandor sunneson: Sandro will see if there are any signs of footprints in the groud
thescificultist: Corax is obvious to his faux pas
sandor sunneson: on the ground even7
sandor sunneson: recent ones
Smon: In #9 you see a weathered and lichen covered statue, noble of mien, armoured
Smon: Jana: "St Ras - Patron of Duty and Fidelity!"
thescificultist: this is one of your gods?
chris107: "Shall we investigate this saintly staue more closely perhaps?"
Smon: "They say that he who prays all night before the statue shall be Blessed, if his heart is pure."
chris107: "Forget it zagaar. Too late."
Smon: The larger than life figure is on one knee, head bowed, stone helm on the ground beside him.
Smon: Grass pokes up through gaps in the flagstone floor.
thescificultist: meh, an hours sharping your blade is worth 2 nights of praying
Smon: The noonday sun beats down through the open roof.
chris107: M investigates the helmet
Smon: To the west you hear the sound of tumbling water from a waterfall.
chris107: poking within with his long slender blade.
Smon: That cascades down to a steaming pool (#2)
Smon: It seems solid stone, part of the plinth
chris107: Illuminating the tip with his Light cantrip.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
Smon: OOC weird I usually have 2 6s by now
chris107:
thescificultist: C carefully investigates the edge of the flagstone
chris107: No parts of the statue seem to move or twist ?
Smon: Jana: "Or maybe one is supposed to sleep before the statue... the tales are old."
Smon: It seems very solid.
Prince Skylio: "I volunteer myself"
sandor sunneson: I'll give it a go, praying all night
Smon: On the cliffs to the north is a dark cave entry - #16
chris107: 60' up?
Smon: yup
Smon: The way is steep but an athletic fellow could climb it
chris107: Is the wall steep or climbable?
thescificultist: I have 50ft of rope
chris107: "Plenty of time for sleping later you laggards1"
thescificultist: I could give it a go...c feels like he nees to prove himself to they party
Smon: Can do it if no STR penalty so I think only Jana couldn't do it
Prince Skylio: Z sighs "Fine. I have not savoured mutton flesh in days but fine Mordred, I will have a look."
sandor sunneson: Sandro will give it a go
Smon: Corax Zagaar & Sandro climb up to the cave?
chris107: Mordred nods, pleased with himself that these fellows will flush out any eveil while he protects lady vex.
Prince Skylio: Z is in
thescificultist: yeah, just a strenght check then?
sandor sunneson: ok

sandor sunneson: sorry STR is 19
sandor sunneson: 10 even\
chris107: (he also keeps a weather eye out for danger approaching from the gatehouse where he is sure he saw movement last time)
Smon: Mighty Corax is first onto the ledge before the cave mouth.
Smon: He smells the lion; sees the remains of hobgoblin carcass in the darkness of the cave...
Smon: "GRRRR" says the angry mountain lion in the cave.
Smon: It lunges forward - Corax roll init

thescificultist: Corax Screams GRRR back, while reading his Greay axe
Smon: Below Corax climbing up the steep cliff Sandro & Zagaar see Corax clamber onto the ledge, then hear the growl.
thescificultist: readying his greataxe
Smon: Corax yells and raises the weird-runed axe as the lion leaps at him
Smon: ok you can roll to hit
thescificultist rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 14, (+5) = 19
Smon: Down below, Jana is picking blue flowers to place before the statue.

thescificultist: hes distracted because his threw's being gobbled
sandor sunneson: +3=5
Smon: In the neck - with a despairing sigh it collapses to the ground.
Smon: It's a tawny beast about 4' long, 3' at the shoulder. Quite old by the look of it.
Smon: In the cave #16 are deer bones, wind blown debris, a mostly eaten hobgoblin.
Smon: There is a dark side tunnel west (#17) - only Zagaar can see down it
chris107: Mordred lifts his shield to protect Lady vex from any gore falling from above.
Smon: Zagaar can see what looks like a broken down old cot, a bare stone block that might have served as an altar, some bones on the floor.
Prince Skylio: "looks a tad disturbing in here, even by my standards"
Prince Skylio: "i'm intrigued"
thescificultist: shall i drop the rope for the two ladies?
Smon: Amid the bones in #17 is what looks like rusted chain armour, a rusty sword, bronze-faced shield, and a small sack with something in it, attached to leather belt.
chris107:
Smon: The two recesses at the back of #17 have shelves carved into their limestone walls.
chris107: "Shall we ascend my lady? see what the barbarians have discovered?"
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
thescificultist: I lift the shield feeling it for weight and examining the craftmanship
Smon: Jana nods, glancing around - the fight seems not to have attracted attention, it's about 1pm now, sun still high overhead.
Smon: The shield looks like good Ghinoran or Nerathi craftwork, perhaps from the Hara bronzeworks.
Smon: Still useable.
chris107: "Would one of you burly fellows please lower a rope. Lady Jana would like to come up1"
thescificultist: Corax, quickly remembers himself and drops the rope....
thescificultist: he asks Z and S if they want the shield?
Prince Skylio: Z drops a rope "There you are, my lady." He whispers to C: "Don't waste your time. She's a total lesbo."
chris107: Mordred will help Lady Vex up. Illuminating the caves with his light spell.
Smon: Fangtang appears beside Zagaar, having found his way up the cliff, tail wagging happily.
Prince Skylio: "Good to see you parkour wolf"
Smon: "Woof!"
thescificultist:
chris107: Once jana is safe, Mordred will investigate every cranny pointing his slim, glowing sword in first.
Smon: Jana leaves her shield below and with Mordred's help scales the cliff with some trouble, arriving flushed and breathless on the ledge.
Smon: Mordred examines the crannies...
Smon: There are rotted rushes on the floor - someone once lived here.
Prince Skylio: Z begins to clap as Mordred investigates a cranny with his sword for the first time.
Smon: Threadbare plain robes hang from an iron hook in one alcove, such as a hermit might don.
chris107: Mordred explains this to his dimwitted companions as he would to children. (not lady vex of course as she is civilised)
Smon: Jana prays to Apollo and a glowing light appears, illuminating the cave.
chris107: He scowls at the beastly orc.
Smon: She kneels and opens the sack on the floor.
chris107: "Oh, well done my lady. Just what we required."
Smon: "A soiled scarf... a deck of playing cards... this wine flask is full... and coins! Three gold."
Prince Skylio: "what's in the bag"
chris107: He courteously allows his own light to dim.
thescificultist: C asks Z if the fancy one ever gets his hands dirty?
Smon: Jana rises, sniffs the wine, profers it to Corax. "Here, for the pain of your wound. And I can succour you..."
chris107: Mordred looks horrified.
chris107: "Oh, succour?"
chris107: "of course."
Prince Skylio: "In the nicest possible way, Mordred is a total pussy. He has a pet owl and he speaks to it. No joke" Z whispers to Corax
chris107: @ DM, what colour is the scarf?
Smon: Jana: "Yes, I can lay on hands and channel Mitra's healing grace." She looks at Corax's bloody thigh.
Smon: It might have been blue, once, but is very dirty, needs cleaning.
thescificultist: Corax flushes and mumbles thanks..m'lady...
Smon: Jana smiles a little shyly, and touches Corax's thigh...
thescificultist: he almost does a wee curtsy, but remebers himself in time
Smon: /roll d8+3
Smon rolls 1d8+3 and gets: 4, (+3) = 7
chris107: Mordred looks away and fumbles with the playing cards. His blue cheeks flushing.
Smon: 7 back, so down 1
Prince Skylio: "You are most kind Jana. While on the topic, I also sustained a mountain lion bite to the testicle."
Smon: Jana reddens. "Oh!"
Smon: She sees Zagaar appears unharmed. "You... you jest."
Smon: OOC anyone taking the 3gp?
thescificultist: 44
chris107: "This would make a fine base for us to explore these caverns further. If we cleaned it up a bit."
sandor sunneson: I'd rather not see that wound, moving on
chris107: Mordred also pales
Smon: The hermit's lair seems otherwise empty, nothing in the old robes.
Smon: After finishing your search you can descend to the canyon floor.
Smon: There are more dark openings on the canyon southern wall, but no sign of life - you know most hunting beasts & humanoids venture out at night.
Smon: https://wiki.rpg.net/images/5/5e/Stonehell_Canyon.png
Smon: Jana leads you west towards a large arched entryway at the far west of the canyon, west C on map.
Smon: You pass a copse of green oak & such trees, west #1 on map.
Smon: Glancing at it, Mordred has an odd feeling - something about it seems off, un-natural.
Smon: From the pool to the north #2 steam rises, as if the water were heated.
Smon: #3 is a small ruined building, remains of stone walls and very rotted timbers from the time of Nerath, 250 years gone.
8:42pm 2017-10-12 Smon Has exited the room
sandor sunneson: Simon left the room in disgust too
chris107:
Prince Skylio:
thescificultist: there he goes again..
sandor sunneson: Southern softy
chris107: Dodgy southern connection.
chris107: How goes the building work, Mr. Brown?
thescificultist: It loks great but glad when its over...only 6 weeks to go. you?
chris107: Well....
chris107: We shall see. 4 more weeks would be nice but we will be happy to be back in for Christmas I think?
thescificultist: I've been very clear with our builder that if we arent in form Xmas, Im coming round his..
chris107: hehe
thescificultist: The new sash windows went in today, amzing how much more light there is
chris107: Did you have them made?
thescificultist: Yeah, used the company up the road in Brig
chris107: nice.
chris107: They do look great. Sash windows are the buis.
Smon: A clear trail (XXXs on map) rises along the south canyon wall from point B.
8:42pm 2017-10-12 Smon Has entered the room
thescificultist: Unfortunately though no more D&D til the granite top goes on the island...19th Nov!
chris107: You just came back in simon.
Smon: Smon: The hermit's lair seems otherwise empty, nothing in the old robes. Smon: After finishing your search you can descend to the canyon floor. Smon: There are more dark openings on the canyon southern wall, but no sign of life - you know most hunting beasts & humanoids venture out at night. Smon: #3 is a small ruined building, remains of stone walls and very rotted timbers from the time of Nerath, 250 years gone.
Smon: bloody Internet
thescificultist: If no-one else is I'll take the shiled and the leather belt
sandor sunneson: I blame Zagaar's ball
Smon: Smon: A clear trail (XXXs on map) rises along the south canyon wall from point B.
Smon: The belt is quite decayed, but the shield grip is still good.
chris107: "I'd like to investigate that path but something about those trees gives me the willies."
Smon: The shield is embossed with an eagle, a Nerathi symbol, claws spread wide gripping wheat & arrows
Smon: Mordred makes out elm & maple among the green oaks.
chris107: Mordred also looks at the steaming pool at 2. "Perhaps you could bathe in there sometime Zagaar? it has been a while."
thescificultist: Do I know anything of the Nerathi?
Prince Skylio: "Perhaps I could drown you in it"
Smon: The Nerathi once ruled a great empire, but it fell to the gnolls 250 years ago
Smon: The town of Hara known for its bronze is still Nerathi
chris107: @DM is it usual to have elm and maple grow among Oak? Would M know?)
Smon: The Black Sun cult west over the mountains are evil Nerathi, they want to conquer, restore Nerath & kill the Altanians
Smon: But once Nerathi & Altanian were allies together
Smon: Mordred can make INT+Prof roll
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 2, (+5) = 7
Smon: You have no idea
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
chris107: "Trees and stuff." he mumbles
thescificultist: sorry guys the baby is awake I might have to nip in and out for a bit...
sandor sunneson: If we follow the path up the cliff we might get a teer view of the woods??
Smon: The vegetation around the pool to the north is very lush, even for a south facing slope.
sandor sunneson: better view....
chris107: We'll try not to get you killed
thescificultist: hehe
Smon: Jana points towards the heavy 15' high arch in the west canyon wall. "That is the entry to Stonehell."
chris107: "Indeed Sandro."
Smon: At the apex of the arch looks to be a plaque of some kind.
Smon: Jana listens doubtfully. "You wish to climb that trail?"
chris107: Any sign of movement from the caves up the path?
Smon: GM You pass the ruined building #3 and approach the foot of the path,
thescificultist: is there another way in?
chris107: Mordred is intrigued by the plaque and will go look while the monk does his stuff. if he has time he will cast a ritual that will allow him to read it.
Smon: No sign of movement but you can make WIS+Prof checks
chris107: (Should it be unclear)
sandor sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 15,
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 3, (+2) = 5
thescificultist rolls 1d20+1 and gets: 19, (+1) = 20
Smon: The plaque is very unclear and in shade but Mordred lights it up, revealing the faded text
sandor sunneson: +2
Smon: Sandro makes out tracks on the path, hob-nailed hobgoblin boots. Some go over to the copse & back again.
Smon: Might also be wolf tracks? Hard to tell.
sandor sunneson: shall we check out the building instead?
Smon: Morded reads Beware All Who Enter These Benighted Halls of Stone. Within Lies No Solace Nor Any Comforts of Home. Toiling For Our Crimes We Must Dig Where We Dwell, With No Freedom or Mercy In Our Vast Stony Hell.
chris107: M makes the others aware of this.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
sandor sunneson: sounds very dark
thescificultist: No point stalling Sandro, lets get this done
Smon: quiet day today
chris107: "If Hobgoblins lurk within yon copse, perhaps it best we flush them out?"
Smon: It's after 2pm now
chris107: "The verminator will no doubt make short work of any lurkers."
chris107: M produces Misha with a flourish.
thescificultist: fancy pants might be right, we could lay an ambush
Smon: Jana nods. "They could be hiding in there. Zagaar, Corax, you flush them out, we'll stand ready."
chris107: "fly my beauty, fly ablove those trees and look don into them."
chris107: down
Smon: Misha flies over the trees and returns, reporting no sign of life,
Smon: She seems puzzled "No life not even birds"
chris107: He throws a withering glance at the pantless barbarian.
chris107: "There is death within that copse. Death that will not rest."
thescificultist: Well big Z looks like we need to do some work while this lot catchup on their knitting
chris107: He slips the owl away safely stroking her soft feathers in thanks.
sandor sunneson: I'm going at 1015
chris107:
Smon: Z & C enter the copse?
chris107: (Kyle just making sandwiches but I'm sure Zagaar will go in with C0
thescificultist: C stalks towards it 2 handed axe at teh ready
Smon: As Z & C enter the stand of trees they immediately vanish from the sight of the others!
chris107: "Lady Jana, I think our expertise with the unquiet dead may be needed too?"
chris107: Mordred sprints after them, illuminating his sword point as he goes.
Smon: Inside the copse Z & C find no hobgoblins, but there are obvious signs the beasts have been here, including a couple sentry points near the n and e edges.
Smon: Inside the copse Z & C find squirrels & birds, plentiful wildlife invisible to those outside
thescificultist: C glances back towards the others
thescificultist:
Smon: As M enters the copse he too vanishes from Sandro's sight, but now can see Z & C clearly.
Smon: Jana: "Illusion! Are you still there?!"
chris107: "Watch out chaps, this place is enchanted."
Prince Skylio: Z salivates... "...Squirrels..."
chris107: Do we hear?
Smon: Jana also enters the trees, along with Fangtang, both look relieved to see their comrades.
chris107: soz, just spilled wine, going for a towl, brb
Prince Skylio: "Enchanted with what Mordred? Flavour?" He stares at the tasty birds in awe
sandor sunneson: Sandro will follow Jana
Smon: Yes, sound carries normally, but sight is hidden
Smon: Jana: "Wizard magic!"
thescificultist: Corax looks for tracks
Smon: There are a lot of humanoid tracks in the grove, small groups of hobgoblins mostly.
thescificultist: Corax spits...wizards
Smon: It looks like this is a perfect ambush sight
Smon: A bit of testing reveals that when anyone enters, another tree appears in the grove.
thescificultist: C looks around nervously worried they are surrounded by invisible gobos
sandor sunneson: If we wait here long enough, the hobgoblins may return>
sandor sunneson: ??
Smon: Jana nods. "My thinking too."
Smon: Jana: "It seems they are coming and going by that southern path up the cliff?"
sandor sunneson: We can ambush the ambushers
thescificultist: what about these trees then?
Smon: She glances towards Stonehell entrance. "Mordred did you see any sign the enemy are using the main entry?"
thescificultist: C suggests trying to strip the bark off one of them
Smon: Jana tries an INT check...
Smon: /roll d20
chris107: When one of us leaves does a tree disappear?
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 1,
sandor sunneson: lol
Smon: She's not too bright at the best of times, and right now she seems distracted by Corax.
thescificultist: haha
chris107: "I did not, but keener eyes than mine may."
Smon: GM: Checking the area just east of the Stonehell entry, it does seem quite well used, but no obvious hob-boot tracks.
Smon: Odd if there is an invasion army massing there.
chris107: "Then it is safe to assume that the Hobgoblins lurk in those high cliffs to the south?"
Smon: OTOH there are definitely hob tracks between the copse and the south track up the cliff, past the caves to the top of the canyon
Smon: could be
Smon: Jana: "These hobgoblins are more elusive than I expected..."
chris107: "I have heard of magic that can mask creatures in the shape of trees..." Whispers mordred looking around nervously
chris107: He prods a tree at random with his slender blade.
sandor sunneson: The trees could be the army? Do they change into something?
Prince Skylio: "...........Are you okay Mordred?"
Smon: M & S can make INT rolls
thescificultist: Corax lifts out a hand axe and goies to shave the bark of the closest tree
chris107: "Well if when we enter another tree appears..."
Smon: The bark comes away
chris107: raw int?
sandor sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 8,
Smon: M can add prof
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 11, (+5) = 16
Smon: It does remind Mordred of the Massmorph spell, used of old by wizards to conceal Men as Vegetation
Smon: Like Berta's cabbages only moreso.
chris107:
Smon: Perhaps the spell was cast here but has faded over the years?
Smon: 3pm
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Smon: drat
Smon: Please go in a cave
chris107: "Zagaar, you know the smell of vegetation well. Sniff these trees and tell me what you think."
chris107: "Then we should explore those caves!" Says Mordred wise enough to suck up to the DM
Smon: Jana: "We have been in this canyon two hours now... we should press on, lest we be discovered."
Smon:
Prince Skylio: Zagaar smells the tree then turns to hide a partial erection, "Nope. Nothing."
sandor sunneson: well said, lets go
Smon: Up the trail?
chris107:
chris107: "I shall lead the way."
Smon: You head up the south trail. 20' above the canyon floor you reach the first cave mouth.
chris107: "perhaps one of you more vulgar fellows could protect lady vex?"
sandor sunneson: what time you planning on playing till Simon?
Prince Skylio: "I am at your service Jana"
chris107: Mordred illuminates the cave with a cantrip.
Smon: Looking in you see (#6) drifts of dead leaf litter, exits to w and s, a broken open chest in the centre of the cave.
thescificultist: Corax is finishes carving a phalus in the tree and wanders over to Jna
chris107: Mordred groans inwardly another piece of his cultured soul dies.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 16,
Smon: I can play to nearly 11pm I reckon
chris107: Kicking at the leaves he enters.
Smon: no particular stop time
Smon: Mordred kicks leaves, revealing the glint of copper coins beneath,
sandor sunneson: I've got an early start tomorrow so signing off, could do Saturday evening from 8
Smon: Then the giant spider drops from the ceiling on him...
chris107: "EEK!"
Smon: I can do Sat from 8
chris107: Saturday is a no go for us

sandor sunneson: Friday can't do.
chris107: Would have to check the diary first.
chris107: I'll post on the thread by the morning.
Smon: The spider tries and fails to bite through Mordred's stout armour as it lands, half knocking him to the floor.
sandor sunneson: I'll check the thread on DF, thanks for GMing tonight, please use Sandro if you want, GM can control
Smon: He rolls out from under it as it rises to strike again.
Smon: Sandro is poking around the copse
Smon: cheers Fergus bye now
chris107: Mordred defends himself, ready to strike with steel or magic as seems best.
thescificultist: Does C here M's scream?
Smon: Jana is eyeing Corax's carvings down below.
chris107: See you Fergus

chris107: +5 for each hit
chris107: +3 strength. +2 duel
Smon: ah duelist I see
chris107:
Smon: It had 20 hp - Z & C burst in to see M triumphant over the gigantic spider
Smon: Jana follows behind.
Smon: Her eyes widen.
Smon: "Thou hast slain a mighty foe!"
chris107: "Worry not my barbarous chums. I have dealt with this minor irritation."
Prince Skylio: Z rips off a spider leg. "anyone hungry?"
Smon: It's truly enormous, the size of a pony.
Smon: Jana goes green as foul ichor dribbles from the leg end.
Prince Skylio: So is Z's mouth.
thescificultist: indeed M, was it the spider that screamed like a serving ewench?
chris107: A shudder runs down Mordred's back when he looks at the horrid thing and the reality of the situation dawns on him.
Smon: Jana: "Are you wounded Sir Mordred? I can succour you..."
chris107: "These creatures can often immitate gthe sound of men." i mprovises Mordred
chris107: "Why thank you lady Vex, that would be quite agreeable."
thescificultist: Corax grins and nods knowingly at Mordred

chris107: 34/36HP.
chris107: "The powers of Mitra are truly amazing."
Smon: Jana looks satisfied. "Mitra has strengthened me for this task."
Smon: OOC she finally hit 5th level - officially a Priest now
Smon: only took 4 real-years
thescificultist: Corax thinks Jana is doing a fine job
chris107: yay!
chris107: She has had a lot to contend with.
Smon: (probably near 5 years - she was a 1e NPC in early 2013)
chris107: "Mayhap this creature has other less fortunate victims within it's lair?"
chris107: (I remember her! )
Smon: Jana nods, eyeing the exit tunnels. "We should check."
chris107: (The original Dick the Buthcher and captain lance?)
Smon: She got seduced by Lance Harcourt in her first ep & it was all downhill from there...
chris107: Mordred once more illuminates the leafy caverns.
Smon: (3 years in-game)
chris107: Examining the horrid bloated spider form too.
Prince Skylio: Z is immediately distracted by the thought of Berta's leafy cavern
chris107:
chris107: And the last part of Mordred's dignity dies...
Smon: The south tunnel opens out into a good sized cave #9 - there is a lot of debris; moldering animal hides, corroded weapons, black fire ashes. Water drips from the ceiling.
Smon: An exit leads west (to #8)
Prince Skylio: "Congratulations on the spider kill Mordred, truly, I am for once impressed"
chris107: "Thanks, Zagaar."
chris107: "Watch out that there aren't more lurking about. I think we should stick together."
Smon: The west exit opens into a small cave #7 that glitters amazingly in the light of M's magic - walls striated with gypsum, the light refracts & glitters.
Smon: Again a side tunnel leads south to #8
chris107: M carefully checks out the ceilings in each before entering.
chris107: "South first?"
Prince Skylio: "Sure"
Smon: Jana: "The spider was fearsome, but still vermin - like the panther, just a lurking animal. We must seek out the true enemies."
Smon: Carefully checking the ceiling for spiders, M moves south into #9.
Smon: Among the debris, M feels something move against his leg...
chris107: "Prhaps we may find weapons or provisions that will help us in our battle within these caves though?"
chris107: He kicks at it.
chris107: Ready to pierce it with his long sword.
Smon: Looking down, M sees a giant centipede easily 2' long is crawling over his foot... instinctively he kicks it... roll to hit

Smon: Jana rushes in, light spell on.
chris107:
Smon: "Succour?"
chris107: "Beware! They lurk among the leaves!"
Prince Skylio: "The Verminator is nourished for now"
Smon: "Eeek!"
chris107: "Mitra's blessing would indeed be welcomed."
Smon: She watches the debris fearfully, but no more emerge to attack.
Prince Skylio: "Jana, with all due respect, are you a healer or a pervert"
Smon: Jana strokes Mordred's much abused leg, scowling at Zagaar.
Smon: /roll d8+3
Smon rolls 1d8+3 and gets: 3, (+3) = 6
chris107: Mordred first pokes around among to flush out any further beasties.
chris107: 32/36
Smon: M thinks he hears rustling, but no more centipedes attack.
Smon: There seems nothing of value here,.
chris107: "My thanks lady vex." he too turns his disapproaving scowl upon the stinking Orc.
Prince Skylio: "Ooops, I mean, OUCH... The centipede... It bit the same testicle as before..."
chris107: "Make yourself useful and check in there." M points west
Smon: Jana: "Perhaps the tavern wenches will succour your wound. Or I hear the Sheep are most... accommodating."
Smon: (to Z obv)
chris107: (Obvs )
thescificultist: Corax, sulking slightly ton missing the fun agina, ''come lets press on''
chris107: M makes way for them.
Prince Skylio: "Cabbage leaves cure any ailment" mutters Zagaar as he wanders off towards the West
Smon: The west exit leads into a large cave (#8), the walls painted with goblin figures. There are wind blown leaves & sticks on the floor - it seems the wind can blow a long way - but no monsters.
chris107: "I can only appologise my Lady. Good help is so hard to find these days, what with the war and such."
Smon: Jana nods to M. "I understand - and his hammer is puissant." She inspects the paintings.
chris107: (OOC - is the light cantrip set at a certain level of intensity or can it be dimmed at will?)
Smon: Jana: "These definitely look like Goblins. These larger figures with whips - hobgoblins? And this one, like a Man - leading the Goblins to overthrow them?"
thescificultist: Corax moves into the entrance to the chamber
Smon: OOC I reckon you can dim it
chris107: Does it have horns?
chris107: OOC - thanks
Smon: No horns visible, more like a halo. It looks like a large armoured human warrior, cleaving through hobs as gobs caper & rejoice
Smon: Jana: "I don't recognise this myth... but this is definitely goblin work."
chris107: "It would seem that the Hobgoblins have enemies other than ourselves?"
Smon: Jana nods. "Yes. The goblins were enslaved - then a human hero overthrew the hobgoblin overlords."
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 18,
