7:16pm 2013-11-20 Goonergeezer Has entered the room
Goonergeezer: hiya
Goonergeezer: just sorting out diner for my grandchildren, will be with you in a few mins m8
Smon: hi K
Smon: just avin dinner
7:24pm 2013-11-20 chris107 Has entered the room
chris107: Evening chaps
Smon: Hi chris
Smon: K is feeding his grandkids
chris107: Okay
chris107: Thanks for posting the character stuff Simon.
Smon: I'm feeding myself after finishing a quick game of D&D w my own critter. He wiped out the goblon hordes but the hobgob warlord escaped vowing revenge
chris107: Always good to have the arch enemy slip away. Sounds like a blast
Smon: Using BECMI with him and the Battle System to help w mass battles
Smon: I roleplayed out his "I shall return!" speech
chris107: I keep seeing BECMI sets on eBay but haven't managed to snag a good condition one yet.
chris107: I'm sure the critter loved it
Smon: My Mentzer Red Box was in good cond until I stepped on it.
chris107: Haha!
Smon: The Expert set is good too; the C and M are just the books, no boxes
chris107: I'd settle for the books.
Smon: I think the Red Box was a gift, the others from ebay
Smon: I think the OSR may have made getting these harder. A few years ago they were dirt cheap.
chris107: I kind of missed all the BECMI stuff. We went straight from hand written University rules to AD&D then never bothered with any other system.
chris107: Until this year when I purchased 3e
Smon: I went from made up rules to Fighting Fantasy age 11/12 then to AD&D 12/13, no Basic, nope.
chris107: It was an experiment that didn't last.
Smon: 3e is hugely complicated by comparison
Smon: & you can't just ignore stuff like w AD&D
chris107: Tell me about it. We played maybe 4 or 5 games then gave up.
Goonergeezer: with you now
Smon: cool
chris107: Hey Ken
Smon: I ran a lot of 3e, but it always burns me out - much worse thab 4e
Goonergeezer: heya chris
Smon: 4e is a good game it's just not good D&D
chris107: I have yet to try it.
Smon: 4e is a cinematic game, if done right it feels like being a movie action hero
chris107: I must have bought 10 books for 3 e and still hadn't got the set
chris107: Sounds cool.
Smon: I ran 3e w 3 books!
7:32pm 2013-11-20 Amalric Has entered the room
Smon: Hi G!
chris107: Hey Graham
Smon: Everyone here
Smon: ok starting in a couple mins
Amalric: Hey S, K, C!
Amalric: Si-C-K
chris107: http://www.mitchfoust.deviantart.com/art/Warspear-145782218
chris107: The new character.
Smon: GM: OK, end of last session you were looting Dick's corpse.
Smon: The black necrosis from the gaunt hound wound seems to be spreading over the hobbit's dead body.
chris107:
Smon: Jana: "We should leave this terrible place - take his body back to the village for cremation..."
Amalric: wow Chris!
chris107: That's Doris
Amalric: "Agreed, Jana. We do not want him rising as the undead."
Amalric: "Though some thought he smelled like the undead even in life..."
Goonergeezer: "Ise take Dick" Kal with an unnatural care picks up the body of his fallen comrade
Goonergeezer: hey g
Smon: GM: Kal picks up the hobbit's light body, and you head back through the rat infested caves to the east, then north and west past the pool where Dick found the Alryan blade, to the last intersection, daylight to the north.
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
Smon: Nothing attacks you as you cross the stream and emerge from the cave into afternoon sunlight. Ellen's three brothers are waiting for you, looking nervous. Then they see the dead body and gulp.
Amalric: Lance breathes deeply of the fresh air
Smon: @chris - you arrived at the village of Bratanis that morning, looking for Dick, and were given directions west. Did you want to go hunting for him or wait for his return?
Smon: Joran: "What... what happened to him? He's gone black..."
chris107: Doris doesn't wait. She hunts.
Smon: Joran: "We saw one of those Hounds in the trees - we readied our slings, but it didn't attack. It seemed as if something called it away..."
Amalric: (Emetix's character in my game on RPol is called Doris!)
Smon: GM: Doris heads west up into the hills, following the directions given her to the caves with their ancient Alryan rune carvings.
chris107: (A fine name - and a true Amazonian one too )
Amalric: (Doris McWhirter, no less, a cleric of Marigold, the goddess of cleanliness )
Smon: She thinks she is nearing her destination, heading through a dusty valley of scattered pine trees, when...
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
chris107: (Haha )
Smon: Something is hunting her.
Smon: Doris' keen amazon eyesight spots the great black shape loping towards her through the trees.
chris107: She stops, listening like a tiger and prepares her spear.
Smon: Realising it's been spotted, the great black hound bursts into a run, heading full tilt towards her. Eyes glow red, unnatural...
chris107: She loosens her blade in it's scabbard and sets her spear if the beast charges.
Smon: Doris readies her spear... roll to hit
Amalric: Do we witness this?
Smon: no
chris107 rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 7, (+3) = 10
chris107: Fuck!
Smon: AC 7, so base 12 to hit
Smon: The gaunt hound evades the spear and lunges at her breast
Smon: /roll 1d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 8,
Amalric: nat 20
Amalric: almost
chris107: (That's a big target!)
Smon: she twists aside
Smon: next round. init
Smon: (if other PCs had a Thief I'd give a Hear Noise roll)
chris107 rolls 1d6+1 and gets: 1, (+1) = 2
Smon: (but you don't)
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 2,
Smon: Doris strikes first as the hound moves to spring again
Smon: (assuming you still use spear)
chris107: yes
Smon: roll to hit
chris107 rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 11, (+3) = 14
chris107: d6?
Smon: the spear tip pierces its gaunt hide
Smon: d6+3 yup
chris107 rolls 1d6+3 and gets: 6, (+3) = 9
Smon: Hurray!
chris107: Haha!
Amalric: nice!
Smon: The mighty blade penetrates its black heart as it lunges, slavering jaws inches from her face
Smon: It dies, a little too slowly.
Smon: The beast falls from her now-heavy spear. Little blood flows.
Smon: Rain begins to patter down.
Smon: (well done)
chris107: She shrugs, moving on like nothing has happened. Her immaculate hair still perfectly in place. Only one bead of persperation rolls between her breasts.
Smon: (had 8 hp)
Smon: A little way on, in a brushy dell, Doris hears voices ahead, and sees several figures in conversation, before a rocky cliff slope.
Smon: Jana is inspecting Dick. "The Curse is covering his body. We should hurry..."
chris107: She struts towards them the rain giving her incredible body a slight sheen.
chris107: (Struts slowly and challangingly)
Goonergeezer: "i cutz der hed ov den?"
Smon: GM: A gorgeous amazon strides proudly into view through the rain. Doris sees three Ghinoran men in peasant smocks, a shapely wench wearing an amazon breastplate(!) but clearly too short to be an amazon, two armoured warriors, and the corpse of Dick!!
chris107: Her blooy spear over one shoulder.
Smon: Jana nods. "I think we had better remove the head..." she looks up as Doris comes into view through the trees.
chris107: "You! What are you doing with my Dick?!"
Smon:
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 6,
Goonergeezer: Kal offers the body to Lance "Hold dis"
Smon: Joran: "Who are you?!"
Amalric: LOL
Amalric: "Erm, no thankyou, Kal. Just cut Dick's head off where he lies."
chris107: "Move peasant. You brute why have you given the great stallion to the lady boy?!" She points at Cptn. Lance
Amalric: "Hell-OOO!" says Lance to the new arrival, looking Doris up and down
Smon: Jana tuts. "Are you an Amazon?"
Amalric: "She appears to be speaking a foreign language, I can't understand a word."
chris107: "You wear the war gear of my tribe but you are no Amazon."
Goonergeezer: "Kay" Kal carefully places Dick body on the floor and rummages through his rucksack looking for a small saw, upon finding it he pulls it out and starts sawing through the neck of Dick whistleing a jaunty litty tune as he goes
Amalric: "These warrior women are always crazy. Should take up an honourable profession - like the priesthood."
Smon: The rain is falling harder now. There's a brightness in the sky - lightning, distant, then a moment later the long roll of thunder.
chris107: "Stop!"
chris107: "What has become of the great stallion who will ride the world?!"
Smon: Jana reddens: "This breastplate was given me by Lady Aeschela..;"
chris107: "What have you done with my passion slave?!"
Goonergeezer: "wha!?? yoos wonna do it den?" Kal offers the saw to the newcomer
Amalric: "Apparently he was polymorphed into a dirty hobbit."
chris107: "Shut it Lady Boy! I'm talking to the brute!"
Amalric: "Ignore her, Kal. She doesn't recognise an artisan at work."
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
Amalric: "Oh go put some clothes on, ya mouthy cow."
Smon: Kal notices Dick's fingers twitch.
chris107: "Brute, why are you removing the head from he who loves like a sabre cat?"
Goonergeezer: "yoos speekin too farst, whas gooin on? der hed sgots to cum off "
chris107: Doris ignores the effeminate one.
Amalric: "Because he won't be doing any more loving, unless undead like some jiggery-pokery."
Amalric: "Keep cutting Kal, before he rises as an abomination."
Amalric: "Jana, we may have to set him on fire here."
chris107: Doris inspects the now obvious corpse.
Smon: Dick's eyes blink open, revealing blank white orbs. A low moan comes from his throat as he reaches for Doris.
chris107: Then removes its head with a blow from her sword.
Amalric: (we did have a torch in the caves, didn't we?)
Smon: (yes)
Goonergeezer: "Dick got bited buy der dogz wiv der red ise n wen blak den ees goon cum bak az der zomb, wees gots ter cuts der hed off"
chris107: "Deal with it. The spirit has fled." She turns to leave.
Amalric: "He never changes, even in death. BURN HIM!!"
Goonergeezer: "seez, tods yer so"
Smon: Doris raises her sword - Dick is starting to move - roll to hit at +4 Doris
Amalric: (LOL nice sentence Ken!)
chris107 rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 4, (+7) = 11
Smon: AC 8 so 11 to hit
chris107: Haha!
chris107 rolls 1d8+3 and gets: 8, (+3) = 11
Smon: As Dick rises up, Doris' blade descends...
Smon: /roll 2d8
Smon rolls 2d8 and gets: 4, 8, = 12
Smon: however you do 22 dmg as it's a CDG (house rule on web page) - the head goes flying off, the corpse falls back and lies still.
chris107: Grrrr!
Amalric: Lance also swings, using Dick's new/old magical blade
Amalric: CDG? cuddly dead guy?
chris107:
chris107: 2 Hits, 2 dead things - Maybe Doris will survive
Smon: (coup de gras) Rain is pouring down Jana's face and body as she kneels by the corpse. "It's dead now... We should still burn him in the holy fire. He was a great warrior."
Smon: (yeah, doris is off to a good start!)
chris107: Doris looks at the other woman like she may actually exist for the first time.
chris107: "You talk with grace Sister."
Smon: Joran and his brothers are staring at the magnificent amazon warrior, whispering among themselves.
Goonergeezer: "iz yoos sayn Dick woz yores?"
chris107: "Yes brute, He who fucks like bunnies was mine."
Smon: Jana nods to Doris, and stands. "I saw him fight with great bravery... I am Jana Vex of Selatine." She curtsies.
Goonergeezer: "coz den yoos kary im den"
chris107: "Is the lady boy yours Sister?" She asks Jana.
chris107: "Thank you brute, but he is of no use now. Do with his shell what you will."
Amalric: "Look Bunny Boiler, less of the lip!"
Smon: Jana nods, frowning. "But he is not a 'lady boy', he is captain Lance Harcourt, a great sailor and shipmaster from the north..."
Goonergeezer: "ees not laydee, Ellen is laydee, ees nobby bloke nd sheez Jana and not a hore"
Amalric: "I am Captain Lance Harcourt, and I'll take no such insults from such a hussy as yourself."
Amalric: "And....yes, what Jana said."
chris107: "Perhaps you want him gelding Sister? He yelps like a virgin child."
Amalric: "Whatever. We are heading back to the village with this body and those peasants. You can do as you please."
Smon: Jana: "Please, amazon sister, do not speak like this, or he must defend his honour and one of you will die..."
chris107: Doris shrugs but sees no reason to upset this pleasant sister.
Amalric: "Better pick up Dick yourself, Gobby, if he was such a pal of yours."
chris107: "I will walk with you brute, perhaps you can tell me of The Great Tripods battles?"
Goonergeezer: "Ooooo, dis cud be gud, big wummun, if yoos stiffs im is hav his sord, Lance if yoos stiffs er den is have der rmor
Amalric: "Obviously she's not much for washing, either," mutters Lance under his breath
chris107: Doris studiously ignores the yapping effeminate one.
Goonergeezer: "Jana, wots she sais? sheez yoosin der big wurdz"
Smon: GM: You all returning to Bratanis? Together?
chris107: (Make for a long game if we don't )
Amalric: well WE are going. what SHE does is up to HER
Goonergeezer: "wots a try pod, avs yoos got ne can is try a pod?"
Amalric:
Smon: Jana grimaces, and tries to pick up Dick's body - she can barely lift it.
chris107: "Leave the husk Sister, he has gone."
Goonergeezer: "is wees goon now? is take Dick, ees my fren"
Amalric: Lance shakes his head and moves to collect Dick, dragging him by the ankles if necessary
Smon: Jana: "He deserves a hero's cremation in the holy fire, not left here for animals..."
Amalric: "I shall help you, Kal."
Goonergeezer: Kal picks up the body of Dick but realising that his hands are now full procedes to kick the head along
Amalric: LMAO!
chris107: (See Dick was likable compared to this Harpy!
Smon: Jana: "I'll take the head..." she picks it up where Kal kicked it.
Smon: GM: You head out of the dell and through the hills.
Goonergeezer: "Fank oose Jana, fort is gona av to kik der hed awl der wai bak den"
chris107: Doris struts imperiously beside the little group.
Smon: A mile or so brings you out onto a trail that leads west through the hills towards the distant sight of a huge winged idol, silhouetted against the skyline.
Smon: Joran: "That's the Sky God Idol. In olden days the Academy of Zeus Skyfather was there, but now it's just ruins, full of goblins and worse..." He points east, downhill. "That way to Bratanis."
Smon: (the idol looks a lot like the Angel of the North, only more artistic)
Amalric: "Looks like our next hunting spot."
chris107: (Haha )
Amalric: (glad to hear it!)
Goonergeezer: "if dayz rite der storee bout us it be der storee of Kal, Big Bird, Nobby bloke nd der wooman hoos not a hore, fink dats got nise sownd to it, der fayball fur rownd der fire"
Smon: Jana nods. "The priest in Bratanis told me he was an acolyte there, before it was abandoned years ago."
Smon: Jana reddens. "Perhaps you could call me something else, Kal? I am a Priestess of Apollo-Mitra."
Amalric: "Yes, good point Jana. I am sorry for not rectifying that before."
chris107: "Ah Sister, a priestess? A noble calling. I sensed you had breeding."
Goonergeezer: "aplomitra, aplomtra, plomtra?
Smon: You make good time down the trail, and after three miles see the smoke of Bratanis ahead in the evening light.
Amalric: "Priestess, Kal? You manage to say that?"
Smon: Jana nods. "Do you revere Athena, sister?"
Goonergeezer: "prestess" Kal beams a big smile at a word he can say without difficulty
Amalric: "Nicely done, Kal!"
Smon: Jana smiles back. "That's right!" At the gates of Bratanis, peasants are ushering in sheep and a few cows for the night under Ruggio's watchful gaze. He nods as you approach. "Ho there!" He looks at the corpse. "Not go so well, eh?"
chris107: "I revere her as a fellow warrior priestess. For her wisdom and skill in battle but my goddess is Coripitis. She who slays."
Smon: Jana's brow creases at Doris' words, but she nods.
Amalric: "Some of us came back, it happens."
Amalric: "Worse luck, we found someone else on the way." He nods at Doris
Goonergeezer: "not fur Dick, ees ded nd wees havs t cutz der hed off"
chris107: Doris ignores the words of the Boy who looks like girl.
Amalric: girls don't have moustaches. well, maybe amazonians do
Smon: Ruggio nods. "Oh well, better him than me, eh?" He grins. "Lady Aeschela is waiting to hear your report Jana, Captain Lance. Kal, the stable is ready..." He looks uncertainly at Doris.
Smon: (Doris can make WIS check)
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets: 10,
chris107: fail
chris107: "Is there an inn?"
Smon: You don't know what he's thinking. Probably quailing before your awesomeness.
Smon: Ruggio nods. "Aye, Mako's place. Kal, can you take her there?"
Smon: Jana: "We need to cremate the body. Joran, help me take the body to the shrine." The villager nods.
Amalric: Lance goes with them
Smon: Lance goes w Jana? Or Kal/Doris?
chris107: Doris looks at Jana "Fare well Sister. I may see to this Skyfather place in the morning if you wish to join me?" She nods curtly to Kal for his obvious friendship with Dick and heads for the inn.
Smon: Jana nods to Doris. "See you later."
Amalric: with Jana - if he's needed
Goonergeezer: " wees gots der nise stayball, s'very worm nd still sels of dick ill bet
Goonergeezer: kal takes doris to the inn
chris107: "Thank you." She smiles warmly at his courtesy.
Smon: Doris pushes open the Inn doors - a group of peasants sit huddled against the rain, seved by a buxom wench in skimpy garb (Ellen). A slender Elf woman in trader's garb sits at the bar, talking with the Halfling barkeep under the watchful eye of a huge wolf. Two drover types and several trader guards in leather sit drinking to one side.
Goonergeezer: "Ellen wurks ere, shees a ladyde nd very prity"
chris107: "Is that Ellen?" She gestures at the buxom wench.
Amalric: (brb)
Smon: Ellen looks up and smiles at Kal. "You're back!" she waves, looking relieved. Mako chuckles.
Goonergeezer: Kal makes his way to a table where he can keep an eye on the whole inn, just in case anyone tries anything with Ellen
Goonergeezer: "ello Ellen, Dick ded nd ise av to kut hees hed off yoos looks reely prity
Smon: Ellen smiles back: "Th-thank you Kal... what? Dick's dead?! That's terrible!"
Goonergeezer: "dis is der wooman hoos oones Dick, he woz lyke a bunnie nd a stallon"
Goonergeezer: "diny nose Dick woz slayve
Smon: The Halfling barkeep looks up from his conversation with the Elf woman. "Dick's dead? A pity. Too few of us Halflings as it is!" he chuckles ruefully.
chris107: Doris gives a gold coin to the barkeep. "To drink the health of the Mighty Bull!"
Goonergeezer: "I nose, Dick woz my Fren nd now ees gon, is miss Dick
Smon: Mako's eyes widen as he whisks the coin away. "Free drinks for all! On the Amazon! Beer only!"
Smon: The peasants and traders hustle quickly to the bar.
Smon: Ellen pushes through the press to bring Kal a beer.
Goonergeezer: Kal looks carefully at Doris "dere iz no drinkz on der mazon"
chris107: "So...Kal? Did Dick fight bravely in the end?"
Smon: The Elven woman is looking at Doris curiously. Smon: Or here is a shorter link: http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/ghinarian-hills-7.html
chris107: (Can't get a link there Simon )
chris107: Doris nods at a Sister of the Elder Race.
Goonergeezer: "der ratz bit im,s'funy coz we bit der ratz fer brekfest, ees woz gon run way but stops coz der spiderz den ee dies"
Smon: Mako pours Doris a glass of wine. "The good stuff... for a lady." he grins.
chris107: And quaffs a pint to Dick who must now be shagging in Valhalla!
chris107: Doris nods as she picks the bones out of Kal's sentences
Smon: The Elf woman introduces herself: "Good evening, Amazon sister. You are an adventuring party?"
chris107: "I have just met this fellow, he seems fine but keeps effeminate company, some preened and curled fool."
chris107: "Have you need for me sword Sister?"
Smon: "I am Seroni of Onhir, a Trader. If you are looking for work, I will be looking to hire guards in a few days for the journey north..."
chris107: "Kal, can he with hair like a maiden fight at all?"
Smon: Seroni nods. "I will be picking up some human slave females from Oriax the Goat. To guard such merchandise, Amazons are always preferred..." she smiles.
Smon: (should switch to Lance shortly)
Goonergeezer: "ees gud at hidin in der bush nd kay wiv a sord too, der preestess can wiggle der fingerz"
chris107: "What is the pay?" She asks bluntly. There may be treasure to loot in the house of the Skyfather.
chris107: "As I thought Kal."
chris107: Basically Doris is happy so long as she's slaying and making a buck or two
Smon: Seroni steeples her fingers. "It's a two week job... Say fourteen gold each, payable on arrival at Ahyf?"
chris107: If you want to go back to Graham maybe we'll pick up a few more clues to an adventure in the Zeus temple or if we should do guard duty?
Smon: ok
Amalric: (back)
Amalric: (nice elf lass btw)
Smon: GM: Joran under Jana's direction lays the corpse of Dick in a small covered crematorium outside the Shrine of Zeus Skyfather (looks a bit like the one in The Phantom Menace where they barbecued Qui Gon Jinn)
Smon:
chris107:
Smon: Jana sounds a doorknocker, and out comes the elderly local priest. Jana: "Good evening Father Eberus - I fear fortune did not favour us this time..." she indicates the corpse.
Smon: Jana: "He began to Rise, as one of the Undead - we had to kill him. His lover, an Amazon, did the deed." Eberus nods, stroking his grey beard.
Smon: Eberus: "Yes, for the best I suppose. I shall prepare the rites, that he may be cremated tonight."
Smon: (did you want to ask Eberus anything, Graham?)
chris107: back in 2 min
Amalric: "Father, what can you tell us of the shrine of the Skyfather in the hills, now taken by goblins?"
Amalric: (did the poultice we get from him last time cure us of our own blackness?)
Smon: Eberus brightens. "Why, I could talk for hours of the days of yore, young man! I was but a child when I first beheld the Monastery-Academy..."
Amalric: (if not, Lance will ask him how we might be rid of the effects)
Amalric: "Please go on!"
Amalric: inwardly Lance groans, but gives no indication
Smon: Eberus: "With time the Curse should fade. But if you die while it still holds you..." he points at Dick.
Amalric: he is actually quite interested
Amalric: "Quite. Best not die then..."
Smon: Eberus: "Great days they were, great days! Pilgrims came from many leagues around to pray at the Great Skyfather, then go on to the Vaults of Belaras, where Jana here - and many others - trained as Clerics of Apollo..."
Amalric: "What befell the Monastery in it's later years? Surely such a bastion of faith should have stood strong against all foes?"
Smon: Eberus: "Just as the priests of Apollo are a strong sword, so the priests of Zeus spoke of wisdom, and learning..."
chris107: Back
Smon: Eberus nods. "You would think. But the world turns, and times change. To the south the Lords of the Citadel of Water fell to the Reavers - Yusan!" he spits a curse. "To the east, cannibals and Beastmen emerged from the caves below Thracia, blocking the sea route..."
Smon: "I was but a Novitiate when raiders beset the Academy on all sides - Men, Ghuls, Goblins, Ogres, and worse..."
Amalric: "Ah yes, the great unwashed. Such a pity."
Smon: He shudders. "Cultists of some dark force - Anti-Clerics! Their magic was strong. Too many of us fell. No more pilgrims came. When the Patriarch died, the decision was made to abandon the Academy. Some went west, to join the Priests of Mitra at the Vaults of Belaras. Others scattered. I returned home - here, to Bratanis. The village needed a priest..."
Smon: He sighs. "The Gaunt Curse, I told you I had seen it before. On those who fell to the Dark Cult... I fear they have returned."
Amalric: "What lies there now? I mean, apart from goblins and the like. What was left behind?"
Smon: Eberus shrugs. "We fired the buildings, so that no force of Evil could use them. Only the warrens below remain, the crypts of the Old Fathers, the well and the butteries..."
Smon: "Little was left, that I can recall. Perhaps some stores, the cheapest of the wine, I think..."
Amalric: "It is good to know. Who knows, perhaps one day someone will attempt to take it back..."
Smon: Eberus nods. "Daily I pray for that day, when the light of the Skyfather shall shine forth once more upon these clouded hills!"
Amalric: "Well we - I - might try one day, but I know I am not ready yet. Thank you, Father."
Smon: Eberus nods. "You're welcome, my son."
Amalric: Dick ready to burn yet?
Amalric:
chris107:
Smon: Eberus sets to readying the funeral pyre, while Jana heads over to the Longhouse to report to her cousin Lady Aeschela.
Smon: Inside, Aeschela is dining with her court retainers, Ruggio stood to one side. She smiles at Jana. "Welcome back, sister! Did you find any Undead? Ruggio tells me you lost the Hobbit. Such a pity..." she doesn't sound too sad.
Smon: Jana glances to Lance. "The Amazon we met had killed another of the Gaunt Hounds. But we found only Spiders and other vermin in the caves."
Smon: Aeschela eats a grape, offers some to Lance and Jana. "Very good. Will you be returning there, or...?"
Smon: (everyone receiving me?)
chris107: Yup
Amalric: "In due course, my Lady. We will have to consider our options for now."
Amalric: (yes!)
Amalric: "We were lucky in truth that but one of us fell. Alas it was poor Dick. It was a death trap."
Goonergeezer: yep
Smon: Aeschela nods: "Those caves have a bad reputation - cursed by the ghosts of ancient Nerath, they say... Please, both of you, join us for dinner. Some olives?"
Smon: GM: After dinner, Jana and Lance retire to their quarters. After stripping off their armour, while bathing and before engaging in the night's rumpy-pumpy, Jana speaks up. "Lance, I do not feel we should stay here too much longer."
Amalric: "I must agree. We should meet with Kal and that annoying Amazon woman, and see if they have any suggestions for newer pastures."
Amalric: "The Lady Aeschela seems not to care for us one way or another. What is it with her?"
Smon: Lance is a little distracted as Jana swabs a sponge of warm water over her fulsome breasts... Jana nods. "I am glad we agree..." she smiles.
Amalric: a little? O_O
Amalric: i'll agree to anything under those circumstances
Smon: Jana sponges her shoulders, water trickling down her back and bosom: "My cousin is in a difficult position... She has offerered us hospitality, but she knows my brother could see that as an affront..."
Amalric: "Oh I'm always willing to try difficult positions....Hmm? Oh...I see what you mean..."
chris107:
Smon: Jana looks thoughtful. "And more than that, this is not a happy place. Aeschela's sister is held hostage by Yusan, the warlord of the Vale. Some say that as a woman, she is not fit to rule here... that Bratanis should have a new Lord..."
Amalric: "Yes. I do not like that Ruggio one bit. He looks like a devious bastard."
Smon: Jana nods: "I do not think Ruggio respects her. I have heard his men whispering about her, nasty words... words such as Kal uses..."
Amalric: "It would not surprise me if he had someone kill that shepherd, so that others may be dragged up there to search for him, and thus run afoul of the fiends and monster there..."
Smon: Jana nods. "Aye."
Amalric: "Kal is not a wordsmith, but he's a decent chap at heart."
Smon: Jana looks sceptical. "When I first met him, he told me had murdered a family."
Smon: "If I understood him correctly."
Amalric: "It could have been a family of bandits, thieves, goblins..." replies Lance, uncertainly
Smon: Jana sighs. "Maybe. Let us go to bed. My body yearns for you..."
Amalric: "He has been a good companion thus far. Perhaps we should judge him on that alone. For now."
Smon: ~fade to black~
Amalric: "And mine for you..."
Amalric: (-r tits)
Amalric:
Smon: At the Inn, what are Kal & Doris up to?
chris107: Drinks, sleep. Decide if we should bugger off on slaver duty or go adventuring.
Goonergeezer: Kal is just sitting down with a drink keeping a watchful eye on Ellen in case anyone tries anything funny with her
Amalric: (I think we should go on slaver duty. we seem to lack experience for most things hereabouts, like in Thracia)
Goonergeezer: (looks at her funny, says anything rude or is innappropriate)
chris107: Happy to go along with whatever you guys want.
Smon: GM: OK, the locals are friendly with Ellen but not harrassing. The Traders seem fairly subdued, it looks as if the Elf-maid Seroni keeps them on a tight leash, though there are a few comments from them speculating about what Oriax's slave girls will be like.
Goonergeezer: (you tell Kal what to do, not the other way around, although if possible he will not stray too far from Ellen unless its for some great riches)
Smon: Are Doris & Kal sleeping in the stable or paying for rooms?
Goonergeezer: stable
Goonergeezer: (he has not been told he is allowed to sleep anywhere else)
chris107: Paying
Smon: Doris can pay 5sp for a private room of her own, or 1 sp to bed down on the common room floor. (I think I better get Bill to bed. Can resume in ca 25 mins)
Smon: (see you shortly)
chris107: Common room
chris107: 1 SP off
Goonergeezer: (k, i may not be here for a little while tho)
Amalric: (np)
chris107: Okay
Smon: We can go to next morning when you rendezvous at the Inn. If you start I'll jump back in.
chris107: OOC - So we're off slaving?
chris107: "Seioni, double pay any day we have to fight for you and all the food we can eat? Amd we keep any loot we find."
Amalric: Lance (and Jana?) show at the inn early-ish, after breakfast
Smon: (back)
Amalric: not sure Lance will see any attraction in a caravan full of nubile slave girls...
chris107: Doris sharpens her gelding sheers...
Smon: Lance and Jana turn up at the Inn after a nice nobles' breakfast, to find Doris & an elf woman talking business.
Smon: Seroni: "Double pay any combat day, and any loot from foes you personally dispatch, yes."
chris107: "And rations?"
Smon: "Yes, we have plenty of provisions..." The Elf looks up as the others approach. "Good morning. I am Seroni, merchant of Onhir. You are with Doris?"
Amalric: "Where are we going? And who is this delightful elf lady?" he asks in a non-saucy manner
chris107: Doris snips her gelding sheers suggestivly
Goonergeezer: "Ise gets moar munny if ise fite, dats gud, ow long i bees ways from Ellen dow?"
Amalric: "Well she is with us, but she apparently negotiates well. Pleased to meet you, Seroni. I am Captain Lance Harcourt, and this is Jana Vex, priestess oraf Mit"
Smon: /roll 2d6
Smon rolls 2d6 and gets: 5, 6, = 11
Amalric: *of Mitra
Smon: Seroni looks at Lance and gets that familiar dreamy look (w Cha bonus is a 12+, Enthusiastic :D)
Amalric: Lance twirls one end of his moustache while smiling winningly
Amalric: then he coughs and gets to business. "When do we leave?"
Smon: Seroni: "My... I... I'm taking a caravan south to pick up some females from Oriax the Goat, the Chaos Wizard, and take them to Ahyf port for sale. I have a little more business to attend to here first; so I was thinking tomorrow?"
Amalric: "Tomorrow would be fine. We will be ready at daybreak."
Amalric: Lance looks to Doris
Amalric: "So...how shall we fill today?"
chris107: Doris looks cooley at the foppish figure of Lance
Smon: Seroni turns to Kal. "It's two days through the hills to Oriax's tower, another two back here. Then a week or so on the road north to Kren's Cairn and Ahyf."
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
Smon: Luckily Kal is not currently wanted for murder in those towns
chris107: OOC - A look at the old Zeus temple today?
Amalric: why not
Smon: gm lance is below full hp, so make a poison save at +4 to recover hp G
Amalric rolls 1d20 and gets: 9,
Amalric: that's 13, is that enough?
Smon: 12 to save, yup
Smon: roll d3 for hp recovered
Amalric rolls 1d3 and gets: 1
Amalric: man
chris107:
Smon: At 11/12, and you are still under the Gaunt Curse and can't be magically healed.
Smon: Jana inspects the wound and looks worried. "I won't be able to heal you if you're injured..."
chris107: Doris points her spear towards the old temple.
chris107: In a martial fashion. Signalling that it's time to go kill something and take it's stuff
Amalric: "It's okay, Doris and Kal will lead the way."
Smon: GM: After finishing breakfast you assemble your gear and can take the old pilgrim trail west towards the Sky God Idol, looming on the far horizon perhaps nine or ten miles distant.
Amalric: (translation: we'll run at the first sign of trouble )
Smon: You set off - the road is steep, but in most places still fairly clear.
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
Smon: Six hours hiking is uninterrupted except by a few goats and a brown bear sited a good distance off.
Smon: Around 3pm you come out of a gorge and see ahead of you the burnt-out and overgrown ruins of the ancient academy-monastery of Zeus Sky-Father, set into the hillside in the shadow of the great Sky Idol that looms above, hundreds of feet high.
chris107: Anu signs of life?
chris107: any
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
Amalric: "Okay, we've seen it now, lets go back. We have a caravan to catch in the morning."
Smon: Faint tracks lead into the centre of the rubble, but nothing since the the recent rains - what remains is too vague to make out numbers or type. A trickle of water runs from a dark cave at the base of the slope, beneath the ruins.
chris107: "Don't want to mess your hair up?"
Smon: Jana: "There are stairs down, somewhere in the ruins. Or else that cave..."
chris107: "Come."
Goonergeezer: "Carnt see stares, cayve is gud"
Amalric: "Lets go"
chris107: Doris stalks towards the dark cave.
chris107: Spear and shield at the ready.
Goonergeezer: Kal walks by her side, shield raised and Jessyca in hand
Smon: You approach the cave...
Smon: You can make out many stalactites and stalagmites.
Smon: Any light source?
chris107: Doris doesn't have any light source
Goonergeezer: (does my sword give off light?)
chris107: Dick's did
Smon: Kal's Thracian blade sheds no light.
Smon: Lance has Dick's sword which sheds bright blue white light when brandished.
chris107: But where is he?...
Goonergeezer: "Lanse get owt dicks stick wiv der shiney stone on it"
chris107: "Why has the lady boy got my slaves possessions?"
Smon: Jana scowls at Doris.
Goonergeezer: "Coz dick dint say ee carnt hav it"
Goonergeezer: "coz ee woz ded"
Smon: Jana: "Dick found a magic sword in the rune-caves... before he died."
Smon: GM: I'll say Lance gets out the sword.
chris107: "Ah, and the weak one feels taking a true warriors weapons will help him become brave?"
chris107: "I see." Doris proceeds if there is light to do so by.
Amalric: sorry, switched off for a moment!
Amalric: Lance does indeed draw HIS sword
Amalric: he could pass the continual light stick to someone if they wish it
Smon: Jana scowls at Doris. "If you don't stop your insults, I will not heal you when you are wounded." The bright light illuminates the cave, it seems about 30' deep, with several exits.
Amalric: someone like Jana
Smon: Dozens of normal-sized bats hanging from the ceiling rustle in annoyance at the light.
chris107: "Please your self sister."
Smon: Jana takes the light-sword so that Dick can use his two-hander if necessary.
chris107:
chris107: The Spirit of Dick lives on
Amalric: (actually i was giving Jana the light stick, and wielding the glowing sword myself)
Amalric: (and dont call me Dick!)
Smon: (oh, right. Makes sense. Sorry, losing it!) There are two rough-cut tunnels out from the cave, to the right and ahead, and the cave itself extends off to the left.
Smon: So a 4-way intersection.
chris107: Doris will advance to the center and inspect each way
chris107: Ready with spear or sword.
Smon: Doris steps forward. Water trickles past her feet, a tiny stream leading out of the cave.
Amalric: Lance will follow, in order to provide illumination
Smon: You can hear dripping from the cave recesses to the left.
chris107: Any other signs of life?
Smon: Both tunnels extend beyond the range of your light. The one ahead (west) looks to have a junction left off it after 10' or so.
Smon: You don't hear any signs of life, except the bats.
Amalric: "I say ahead. You?"
chris107: "Works for me."
Smon: Jana: "I hear these tunnels are a vasty maze. We should be careful not to get lost..."
chris107: (Any one mapping? )
Smon: You enter the western tunnel. After 10' there is a side passage to left, and another side passage to right 15' beyond that. The main tunnel continues straight ahead.
Amalric: "We won't delve too deeply."
chris107: OOC - sounds complex
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 2,
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Smon: You can see muddy bootprints on the tunnel floor, several pairs leading away from you down the tunnel - they look recent.
chris107: OOC Don't want us to get lost and miss our caravan...
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
Smon: Suddenly you hear a yell behind you: "Oi!"
chris107: Sheild up!
Smon: Turning, you see a group of men, a rough-looking mix of Ghinorans and Altanians in leathers and furs in the cave behind you, carrying x-bows, axes and short blades - two carry a dead wild pig slung on a stick. They glare at you, three raising their x-bows.
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
Smon: /roll 2d6
Smon rolls 2d6 and gets: 1, 4, = 5
Smon: "Drop your weapons!" yells one, presumably the leader.
chris107: Doris attacks him with her spear, shield up to protect from crossbow shots.
Smon: They have the drop on you so they'll auto win init w x-bows as you close
Smon: Jana cries out.
Amalric: (how many men?)
Smon: 5
Smon: Doris flings herself forward, the x-bows go off
Smon: /roll 1d20x3
Amalric: Lance charges them, swinging his magic blade
Smon Rolls 1d20x3 and gets:
20 = 20
7 = 7
10 = 10
Smon: Doris AC 1? 1 hit
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
chris107: Doris hit
Smon: A bolt crunches into her breastplate and ribs for 4 dmg as she closes, Lance behind.
Smon: Doris roll to hit
Smon: +1 for charge
chris107 rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 16, (+3) = 19
Smon: She stabs him..
chris107: so 20
chris107 rolls 1d6+3 and gets: 2, (+3) = 5
Smon: /roll 1d8
Smon rolls 1d8 and gets: 2,
Smon: She guts him and he goes down.
Smon: dying
chris107: "Ha! Surrender you pigs!"
Smon: Lance roll to hit, also +1
Amalric rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 20, (+4) = 24
Smon: Lance strikes perfectly...
Amalric: oh yeah!
Amalric rolls 1d8+3 and gets: 7, (+3) = 10
Smon: /roll 1d8
Smon rolls 1d8 and gets: 8,
Smon: A second man, a big red fellow, is cut down.
Smon: /roll 2d6
Amalric: "Take that, you craven wretches!"
Smon rolls 2d6 and gets: 6, 3, = 9
Smon: The men blanche, then turn to run!
Smon: roll init
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
chris107 rolls 1d6+1 and gets: 6, (+1) = 7
Amalric rolls 1d6+1 and gets: 3, (+1) = 4
Smon: You can attack at +2 as they turn to flee
Smon: AC 7
chris107: OOC Or should we bind these two wounded ones as slaves?
chris107: Good money in slaves...
Smon: The men drop their pig as they run
chris107: Haha
Smon: if you pause they get away
Amalric rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 20, (+5) = 25
Smon: heh
Smon: /roll 1d8
Amalric:
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 11, (+5) = 16
Smon rolls 1d8 and gets: 5,
Amalric rolls 1d8+3 and gets: 8, (+3) = 11
chris107 rolls 1d6+3 and gets: 4, (+3) = 7
Smon: Lance slays one
Smon: /roll 1d8
Smon rolls 1d8 and gets: 2,
Amalric: (wow, two nat 20s and 15/16 poss damage!)
Smon: And Doris a 4th. The last man flees shrieking from the cave of death!
chris107: Yeah!
Amalric: "I like this sword!"
Smon: You see him sprinting across the meadow towards the treeline.
chris107: A spear cast?
Smon: 120' away after 1 round
chris107: too far then
chris107: Any of the bleeders savable?
Smon: looks it, 60' range
chris107: Doris wrattles her slave collars hopefully.
Smon: Saveable if Jana uses magic on them, otherwise unlikely.
chris107: And tries to staunch wounds.
Smon: I'll need to stop now, I'll work out their hp
Smon: I think all are dying
chris107: Okay, thanks Simon. Cheers guys
Smon: cheers
Smon: Nice to end on a slaughter eh
