6:14pm 2016-10-12 Smon Has entered the room
chris107: Simon, Kjato
Kjato Ragfoot: Hello
chris107: I have the longest list of spells
chris107: Not sure how you do this week after week Kjato
Kjato Ragfoot: Neither am I.
chris107: It's so 'thinking'
Kjato Ragfoot: And why is Thuruar level 15? Did I miss XP?
chris107: You got loads!
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. Hmm.
chris107: 14,000 Ithink
Kjato Ragfoot: Yep, that would put me above level 15 xp.
chris107: 8th level spells
chris107:
chris107: Cantrips: Sacred Flame, Resistance, Guidence, Light.
Smon: Hi guys - yes Thuruar is 15th now
chris107: 1st. Command, Identify, Detect Magic, Sanctuary, Shield of Faith and Detect Evil
chris107: 2nd: Auguary, Suggestion, Find Traps, Hold Person, Prayer of Healing
Smon: If you can both post your Cleric PC sheets on the thread that'd be great, then I'll transfer them to blog.
chris107: 3rd: Non-detection, Speak with dead, Clairvoyance, Dispel Magic, Prot v Energy
chris107: Gosh
chris107: Will do Simon.
Kjato Ragfoot: I just remembered why I chose a non-magical class for the other campaign I am playing in.
chris107: 4th Arcane EWye, Confusion, Freedom of Movement, Divination, Guardian oif Faith
chris107: 5th: Legend Lore, Scrying, Flame Strike!
chris107: Gosh that was hard work!
Smon:
chris107: (And I only know what half of them do)
Smon:
Kjato Ragfoot: Remember that you also have domain spells.
chris107: that includes them thankfully
Smon: GM: Need to do magic item check for Lilith.
chris107: I was going to play her with no armour and only use sacred Flame in combat.
Smon: Roll a d20 Chris
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets: 16,
chris107: 16
chris107: still here?
Smon: 16 is a +1 weapon of your choice, or I'll allow a wand that gives +1 to hit with spell attacks and ignores half cover.
Smon: 'wand of the war mage' - call it wand of Athena.
chris107: Wand of Athena sounds cool
chris107: AC20 sounds bad but she will use Sanctuary and stuff.
Smon: GM: In the week following your return from destroying undead Varek, Lilith can teach Thuruar the ritual to summon an Owl of Athena.
Kjato Ragfoot: AC20 is rather good.
chris107: oops
chris107: ac10
Kjato Ragfoot: Oh. Yes. Please!
chris107:
chris107: Now that is super cool.
Smon: By the light of the full moon that illuminates the darkness, Thuruar carries out the sacred rites and at their conclusion silent wings bring the great owl to land before him.
Smon: "Twit-twoo... Twit-twoo...." says the Owl.
Kjato Ragfoot: I will feed her a giant mouse.
Smon: GM: Your owls have Giant Eagle stats (AC 13 hp 26 fly 80')
Smon: If they get killed you have to wait to the next full moon to summon another (assuming Athena is happy to send one).
chris107: A very nice touch, excellent.
chris107: Wiswwing is the best name I can come up with.
Smon: Cool
chris107: wisewing
Kjato Ragfoot: I will call my owl Atrytōne.
Smon: Even better
chris107: nice name!
Smon: GM: Hakeem bids his wife and child a fond farewell and flies north from Thusia on the back of Laurana's griffon Goldmans, seeking the legendary elven smith Aeanor to instruct him in the reforging of the sword and armour of Bondorr.
Smon: It may be a long and arduous task, but to become the Exalted Champion of Bondorr is no small thing...
Smon: Back on the ground in Thusia, Shieldbiter is grumbling about the inaction and wants to go hunt bandits (he says), while Lady Meda is calling a council of the wise (now Hakeem's gone) to discuss word from the north.
chris107: indeed
chris107: haha
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah. Let's point Shieldbiter to Serena's pirate den. That should keep him occupied for some time.
chris107: Lilith nods at Thuruar's wisdom.
chris107: but says nothing
Smon: A dozen or so leaders gather in the Hall, including Thuruar and Lilith. Lady Meda: "Anna Souvari has told you of events in the north - the pirate raid, and now the Feathered Bear it seems march on Hara."
Smon: Meda frowns at Thuruar's words. "Are you sure? Sarene has been an ally against Nerath - though I fear she has a dark heart..."
Smon: Weaponmaster Damne speaks up: "I agree with Thuruar. Sarene is a vile slaver - it is time she paid for her crimes."
Kjato Ragfoot: Our dear ally Sarene threatened the death of Hakeem and I as soon as we were no longer of use to her.
chris107: "Sometimes broken tools must be thrown away."
Smon: Damne: "Aye. And Sarene likely still has Nerathi captives, held for ransom - and sport... Rescuing them would help seal Hara's loyalty, yes?"
Smon: Anna Souvari nods, though looking unsure. "She has long been an enemy of the Rangers of the Woad..."
Kjato Ragfoot: Furthermore, as soon as we consolidated the realm, she would be just as happy to raid us than she is to raid the Nerathi.
Smon: Anna: "My concern is that Sarene is also an ally of Minars Rapak, Chief of Seawolf and war chief of all the Altani... He has held the Altani back from war with Hara, so far..."
Kjato Ragfoot: That is true.
Smon: Meda: "Mycr teaches us that Peace is the best path, even when War seems the only option. But peace with the Nerathi of Hara may mean war with the Pirates of Sarene..." she sighs.
chris107: "Is there no way we can reconcile them?"
chris107: "Mayhap give Sarene a juicy peach to pluck that does not hang from one of our own trees?"
Smon: Meda: "I think Sarene is one with a restless heart. Where there is no conflict, she will create it. I think she should be told to take her ships and leave these lands - or face the consequences."
Smon: Meda nods at Lilith's wise words. "A peach that does not cause the suffering of goodly folk would be best."
Smon: Damne: "My lady Meda, if we send Sarene an ultimatum, the element of surprise is lost. We should strike fast, rescue the captives, THEN deliver an ultimatum - at sword point."
chris107: "Is not this Sarene a favourite of that huge foolish barbarian you all seem so fond of?"
Kjato Ragfoot: I am quite sure that, if we send Sarene an ultimatum, she will raid us just out of spite.
Smon: Meda: "I believe Sarene's greatest fondness lies with Rey, our new King of Carchimish."
chris107: "For now could she not be bought off?"
Kjato Ragfoot: Either we leave her be, we defeat her, or we lure her aways.
chris107: "Then when the time is ripe...."
chris107: "Perhaps this King Rey can be of use to us?"
Smon: Meda: "Surely he is the one with the best chance to persuade her. His silver tongue is legendary..."
Smon: (several of the ladies present cross their legs)
chris107: haha
Kjato Ragfoot: (lol)
Smon: Meda blushes slightly. "You know what I mean."
Smon: Damne: "So, fetch Rey from Carchimish, send him to Sarene with a mission that takes her and her pirates far away? Some great pile of loot?"
chris107: "If it serves our cause for now."
chris107: "We can deal with this evil haradin when the time is right."
Kjato Ragfoot: Antil might be a good target. After all, her competitor was slain by marines from Antil. she could prove her worth.
chris107: "Antil has not proved a friend in your conflict so far?"
Kjato Ragfoot: So far, they have not been involved one way or the other.
chris107: "They have no connection with your allies in the south?"
Kjato Ragfoot: As far as I know, they have been subdued by Nerath.
Smon: Meda: "Hmm... I know of a wrecked ship in shallow waters off the coast of Oricha, east of Dianceht - they say great golden plates can be glimpsed lying on the sandy seabed. That might take her a little while." She listens to Thuruar. "They were marines of Rallu, not Antil. Rallu, City State of the Sea Kings... But Bjornalf Bright-eyes spoke highly of Rallu's Captain Eldam Allamsor, in the brief time I knew him. Accounted him a friend, I think."
Smon: OOC Lucky for you Meda is a Loremaster Bard.
chris107:
Smon: Meda: "From what little I know of Antil, City of the Windriders, they are allied with Nerath, yes..."
Smon: She pauses.
Smon: "Hmm... Antil slaver ships often dock at Ahyf to take on Oriax girls, and captives taken by the pirates..."
Smon: She shakes her head. "Sarene would not likely raid her own customers."
chris107: "Then we must find a reason she should..."
Smon: Anna Souvari: "Could she not be sent to raid the Nerathi coast, west of the mountains? It is a long voyage...."
Kjato Ragfoot: Hmm. That is true.
Kjato Ragfoot: Would be a good distraction for the Nerathi, too.
chris107: "Perhaps with gently sown rumours of a great treasure?..."
Smon: Meda looks to Lilith, nods. "Yes - all three of you speak wisely. Sending her that way will take a voyage of months. When she arrives, either she may do some good, or with Mycr's blessing our war may be over. "
Smon: Meda: "The main trading centre in those parts is Mysk, a wealthy Antillian trade city built upon an island just off the Nerathi coast. A suitable target?"
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 20,
Smon: Malenn of Mitra has been lurking at the back, looking unhappy. Now she speaks up. "*cough* Milady - there is a Bastion of the Paladins of Mitra at Mysk..."
Smon: Damne scowls: "Well they should not be there to defend slavers!"
Smon: OOC Mysk is on this map - https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJQhsTZS9DMBHD2OPBNTIN8nienTx5juiJX-LzZUPBMKgEFRw6N1euCV8SVFCU39vtF3nLQDgf1pGtzFDiiB2YACGZR8NDzm7RbHYwbbfoGVBQxqtlmHFWuQGoFuVyA6XmJy8d_85AMlg/s1600/Altanis.jpg
chris107: "Lady Malenn, perhaps these goodly folks could be in a position to help us against the wicked slavers?"
Kjato Ragfoot: Renth would be a more suitable target, I think.
Smon: OOC post on Mysk ca 4333 - http://4esouthlands.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/order-of-mitra-mysk.html
Smon: sorry 4434
Kjato Ragfoot: After all, Mysk and Atil are customers of Sarene, whereas Renth and Nerath are not.
Smon: It's 4446 now.
chris107: "The Warmaster speaks wisdom."
Smon: Meda sighs. "Renth is a city of Nerath, but they do not sell slaves, they sell rope - the population are mostly elves, they grow the finest flax in all Altanis."
chris107: drat
Smon: Damne shrugs: "Send her to raid the wharfs of Bisgen, then. The river is navigable that far, right?"
chris107: "Bisgen is the stronghold of the Crowfinger?"
Smon: Meda: "Bisgen is the Capital of Neo-Nerath, seat of power of her Princes, High Prince Cormarrin - and Borritt Crowfinger."
Smon: Meda nods to Lilith. "A suicide mission, I think."
Kjato Ragfoot: But is Sarene suicidal enough to take it?
chris107: Lilith keeps a straight face and her own council but bows to the lady's wisdom.
Smon: Anna Souvari: "I don't know Sarene well, but I think she might... If the prize were great enough, and to boast."
Smon: Meda: "It would certainly make her the Queen of Pirates..."
chris107: "And give the Neo-Nerathi quite a headache to boot.."
Smon: Anna: "The Black Sun have amassed vast wealth at Bisgen - gold, slaves - and sorcery. The city was cleansed of all non-Nerathi; only pure blooded devotees of Nerath Restored may dwell there."
Smon: Meda looks quizzically at Anna Souvari: "The Nerath are your people, Anna."
Smon: Anna scowls. "Aye. But the Black Sun are evil. Better Sarene raid Bisgen than Hara."
chris107: "I say send this King Ray to pour honey in her ear and greed in her soul for bisgen..."
Smon: Meda: "I will say this for the plan... The Nerath will hardly expect us to attack them from the *west*!"
Smon: Meda looks round the council. "It is agreed, then? Thuruar, you are a good friend of King Rey. Perhaps you could visit him, persuade him of the importance of this mission."
Kjato Ragfoot: Indeed, they will not expect it. It will surprise them. And Sarene is the only one who could pull it off.
Kjato Ragfoot: I agree.
Smon: Meda and the others nod. Anna: "If anyone can, Sarene can. She has slipped through traps the Rangers set, that should have caught any man or woman alive."
Smon: Meda: "Next issue..." OOC this reminds me of work Senior Management Committe
chris107: Drat! Phone. brb
chris107: carry on without me
Smon: "...The Feathered Bear clan. With the Nerathi army withdrawn from Hara, they may well have strength enough to sack the city - especially if any Greywolf, Seawolf or Hoard-Wardens join them... Thuruar, am I right you are of the Feathered Bear?"
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes, that is right.
Smon: "On what terms did you leave them?"
Kjato Ragfoot: I was a youth, left to work as mercenary, to plunder, to become rich and famous.
Kjato Ragfoot: I have hardly visited them since, as my first work as mercenary turned into a disaster and I found Athena afterwards.
Kjato Ragfoot: So, I left them on good terms, just as any young hotheaded aspiring mercenarie does.
Smon: Malenn of Mitra is looking oddly at Thuruar. Her eyes widen. "Forgive me, Father - but... Were you with the Army of Mitra that fought the Red Reavers at Grimalon?"
Kjato Ragfoot: I was indeed. I fought alongside Marcus Hyaptasos, when we were cornered at the old temple.
Smon: Malenn nods. "I remember! We had fought our way in to the town of Landmarch, when the Reavers' high mage came against us..."
Smon: Her face falls. "You died that day."
Kjato Ragfoot: I should have died. The temple collapsed around me, burying me beneath tons of rubble.
Smon: Malenn: "No - I saw...! " she stops, tails off. "But that was long ago and far away. Very far."
chris107: sorry about that
Kjato Ragfoot: Indeed, long ago and far away. I hardly remember the person I was back then.
Smon: Malenn looks teary eyed, but brightens, wiping away a glistening teardrop. "I do remember you - a version of you, before the battle. Very young, and fierce, and proud. You were so sure we would win."
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes, back then I longed for battle. Today, I consider it more of a necessary evil.
Kjato Ragfoot: Also, I no longer feel that invincible. But that is what being buried beneath a temple does to you.
Smon: Meda starts to break in and get the meeting back on track, but Malenn continues: "Did you - in this time-world, I mean... Did you see Deodanth die?"
Smon: ooc your choice
Smon: Weaponmaster Damne rolls her eyes. "Enough speaking of the dead. Let us attend to the living."
Kjato Ragfoot: Deodanth? No. He was separated from us shortly before we got cornered. I have no idea what happened to him.,
Smon: Malenn sighs. "I'm sure he must be dead... I should go, my little one will need feeding."
Smon: She rises and hurries out of the Hall.
Smon: Damne looks slightly scornful: "Not an Amazon, that one, for sure."
Kjato Ragfoot: We all have our faults, Damne.
Smon: Anna Souvari, also not an amazon, looks more sympathetically after Malenn, curious at what inner struggle ails Hakeem's wife.
Smon: Make a Persuasion (CHA+Prof) check Thuruar.
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+8 and gets: 9, (+8) = 17
Smon: Damne nods: "Aye, I suppose so Father... We all do our part."
chris107: Lilith also nods at the Warfather's wisdom.
Smon: Meda coughs. "...So, as I was saying, since you are of the Feathered Bear, Thuruar, and have gained a great reputation for your might and wisdom, it seems to me you would likewise make the best emissary to them. To halt their march on Hara."
Smon: Anna: "Aye. And I suggest this is the more urgent task. Sarene may not strike again for weeks, but within days the Feathered Bear will have finished gathering their warriors - they may attack very soon."
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes. That might work.
Kjato Ragfoot: We need something else for them to do, though. They won't stop marching on Hara just because we ask nicely.
Smon: Damne: "They would if you blasted them with the Holy Fire of Athena..."
Smon: OOC Damne gets a bit like Shieldbiter when no fighty too long.
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, Lilith and I had another plan, but in a bind, that might work as well.
chris107:
Smon: Anna: "You suggested earlier sending them over the mountains? We have reports the Warforged of Madcat Mountain and their Altani Lion Clan allies are hard pressed by Nerath, now that the Warbringer has joined the conflict. Perhaps they could assist their kin?"
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes, hopefully.
Kjato Ragfoot: After all, it would not be very honourable to plunder an almost defenseless town while there are true enemies to be fought.
Smon: Meda nods. "The good Lord Bulwark of Madcat could definitely use a few hundred Altani warriors to aid the defence..."
Smon: Meda rolls out a map, sighing (she doesn't love military strategy as much as your GM does)
Smon: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFCG1oAJwFOGbYkrEhYfj7jyzNTItL8vU8Etg7GEL2k71t9JAdxmXtb2jaHPeBMkcFyRj6t8yAGmJZYSTVSYMhTBk3BGcmcryUF37ffHzHc3D-8mtvfu90vGJfbwdPM2o1JhOAvGIduHA/s640/Ghinarian+Hills.jpg
chris107: ":D
chris107:
Smon: Meda: "I believe the Fairhills river west of Feathered Bear territory can be crossed, though not easily. Magic would certainly help... Thuruar, it's said you can part rivers?"
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes, I can divert rivers.
Smon: "Then offer to do so for them."
chris107: "Would the Lord Bulwark ask the Feathered Bear for aid?"
Smon: Anna: "Of course once they're west of the River there's nothing between them and the Hara heartlands - I pray to Erathis-Athena that your persuasion skills are good."
Kjato Ragfoot: There is little but praying we can do about my persuasion skills, I fear.
Smon: Meda: "Bulwark is very old, and very wise. I hear they named Bulwark's Breach, where Ractuan stands, after him centuries ago... Though it was only ten or so years back that he awoke his comrades beneath Madcat Mountain to their new war against Nerath and the Black Sun."
Smon: Anna: "Bulwark was at the last Altani Clan Moot, where Hakeem was made War Chief - the Feathered Bear will know him."
Smon: Meda nods: "And they will certainly know Rameses, noble chief of the Mountain Lion and the Winged Ape. There is no feud between those clans. They should be willing to help."
chris107: "Perhaps worth a try?"
Kjato Ragfoot: It is definitely worth a try.
Smon: Meda nods. "Hara must be saved. If the Altani sack Hara, all hope of winning the support of goodly Nerathi against the Black Sun will be lost."
chris107: "Then our path is clear."
Kjato Ragfoot: Indeed. And it leads me home.
Smon: Meda: "Thuruar, Lilith, I charge you now, go find the Feathered Bear and send them to Madcat Mountain. Then seek King Rey of Carchimish and send him to Sarene with the proposal to raid Bisgen."
chris107: "I will be beside you Warfather. The Lady of Wisdom commands it."
Smon: Meda blushes (slightly green, she's half-Viridian) before realising he means Athena not her!
Smon: GM: Next morning dawns muggy and rainy (it is the wet season in Ghinaria) as Thuruar and Lilith saddle up their giant owls and prepare to depart Thusia.
chris107: hehe
Smon: Meda: "Fare well, my friends. Stay well east of the mountains - the Vrocks have been attacking fliers often, recently."
Kjato Ragfoot: Indeed, the Vrocks are a real nuisance.
Smon: A crowd gathers to see you off, the Amazons forming an honour guard flanking your take-off path across the village green.
Smon: Damne has her squadron raise their shining swords in salute. "Hail to the Champions of Athena! Victory go with you!"
Smon: Meda sighs, muttering something about ghost-spirits that are mere shadows of the True Wisdom, but smiles affably and waves the priests goodbye.
chris107: Lilith looks suitably chaste and shy as she mounts Wisewing.
Kjato Ragfoot: (Eh, well, Meda and her delusional idea of a one single god)
Smon: Anna waves too: "Good fortune! I suggest you fly due north and seek first the Castle of the Wode - the Rangers may help you locate the Feathered Bear more swiftly."
Smon: ooc stopping there, got to get Bill to bed.
chris107: "Damne, cousin. We shall meet again when war is all aeound us. "
chris107: Thanks for the game Simon, Kjato
Smon: Damne nods proudly, smiling at the thought.
Smon: OK for Saturday 8.15?
Kjato Ragfoot: Indeed, thank you two.
chris107: Should be.
Smon: XP 3500 each.
chris107: G'night guys
Smon: Planning is important. :
Kjato Ragfoot: Should be OK.
Smon:
chris107: Say G'night to Bill too
Kjato Ragfoot: Good night everyone!
