Ulysses 100
Brigar 100+90=190
Mouse 80+90=170
Fergus & Amalric PCs from session 1 90
We rejoin our intrepid heroes pushing onwards into an overground mausoleum within the Redoubt of the Dead. Forcing the door reveals the last dying rays of the evening sun falling upon the graveyard.
The arrival up the tunnel of Ulysses the Gishmesh priestess of Istar, freshly arrived a putt the Star of Tarantis with overheard news from the Silver Eel had them heading back to town.
While passing back through the hovel keen eyes found a chest containing a silver hand axe.
Here our friends split ways with Brigar and Ulysses off to confront and Murinae whilst the rest went to keep an eye out at the Eel.
Murinae was at home with her children. However they were not as they seemed and once challenged, transformed into horrible rats! The battle was not going well....
Meanwhile back at the Tavern, the door was to burst open and a breathless white scaled Dragon Born burst in. "Fight, Sword-Rat Rest House, HELP!"
Here we leave the scene until next time.
6:01pm 2017-9-19 Smon Has entered the room
6:01pm 2017-9-19 DESTROYERBILL Has entered the room
chris107: And noticed our heroes as they talked to a woman at a table at the Silver Eel earlier
AmalgamGames: Hello, Simon and Bill
chris107: Hi Simon, Bill
Smon: Hi all
DESTROYERBILL: hi
AmalgamGames: To clarify, am I an actual princess?
chris107: Kyle has decided to skip this session as he part wrote it. I'll intoduce his character as an NPC along the way.
AmalgamGames: Who is Kyle? Your guy?
chris107: oorps, Priestess!
chris107: Though if you want to be a Princess too, that's fine by me
chris107: yup
AmalgamGames: Haha!
AmalgamGames: I am not Princess Ulysses Graham, priestess of Ishtar Anyway, did I hear what they said at the Silver Eel?
AmalgamGames: *I am now
chris107: Now it's going to be a short session as I have a very early start in the morning.
DESTROYERBILL: ok
AmalgamGames: Okay.
6:05pm 2017-9-19 chris107 Has exited the room
AmalgamGames: Wow, real short session.
DESTROYERBILL: ha
6:06pm 2017-9-19 chris107 Has entered the room
DESTROYERBILL: hello
chris107: So if Bill and Simon are ready we can recap and make a start, then
chris107: anm I here?
AmalgamGames: Yes.
chris107: Netflix, interweb, everything just died.
AmalgamGames:
chris107: But looks like it's back in business
chris107: Okay, we begin.
Smon: i'm good
Smon: we're just eating dinner & typing
chris107: Last week Mouse, Brigar and a couple of others offered to help out a damsel in distress.
Smon: last sesh http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/chris-csio-game-1.html
chris107: One Murinae by name the new owner of the Sword-Rat Resthouse
chris107: Right now you stand covered in gore in a small underground cave.
chris107: A headless Ghoul and the well nibbled corpses of the two Skandic ruffians you were searching for.
Smon: I'm pristine
Smon: Mouse: "I suggest Brigar and I escort this pouch of 114gp safely back to the Silver Eel while you two finish clearing the Redoubt. We'll save your share."
chris107: Along with the note, some coins and coffin breaking equipment. You found a small iron key around one of their necks.
Smon: I'll take key
chris107: The two elves give Mouse a hard stare.
AmalgamGames: (I assume I am with the party too?)
chris107: (AG - No you are still in the Silver Eel, I'll get youin at an appropriate point. Won't be long)
Smon: "Alternatively, 28gp each and 2 more for me as your fearless leader?"
AmalgamGames: (Okay. I just wanted to check.)
Smon: Mouse will reluctantly agree to a fair split - 28gp & 5 sp each.
chris107: The elves suggest you head back, search the hovel then go see what this Murinae has to say for her self.
Smon: "Of course she wants us to give her the money..."
Smon: "And she has corpse-eating "children"..."
Smon: "I suspect seeing her again might bode ill."
DESTROYERBILL: lets carry on
Smon: Mouse looks sceptically at Brigar, but nods. "Oh, very well."
Smon: I approach the far tunnel and shine my torch down it.
chris107: You press on to the East?
Smon: yes but carefully
chris107: AG, check your private messages
Smon: Brigar in front
AmalgamGames: (I did and sent one. Tell me if you don't get it.)
chris107: (Thanks, got it)
Smon: "If I get eaten by ghouls, Brigar, I shall blame you!"
chris107: @ Mouse and Brigar.
chris107: Your torches illuminate a narrow tunnel winding steadily upwards and eastwards
Smon: We will carefully proceed, axe mad barbarian in front, me behind.
chris107: Eventually you come to a flight of ancient steps, well worn heading upwards.
Smon: up we go
chris107: You enter a smallish stone room, several shrouded bodies lay on shelves around the edge. A heavy stone door is in the east wall.
DESTROYERBILL: i will cut the heads off all the bodies
Smon: I'll listen at the east door, perception 16
chris107: The Barbarian hacks the heads of several ancient corpses.
Smon: Any sign ghouls have been munching>
Smon: ?
chris107: Mouse listens at the door
chris107: No sign of munching here
chris107: All sounds quiet outside.
chris107: A heavy bar holds the door fast.
chris107: Roll a DC 10 perception roll, Mouse
chris107: (You get all that AG?)
Smon: /roll d20+6
Smon rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 1, (+6) = 7
Smon: LOL
chris107:
Smon: I'll search the corpses for loot.
Smon: Then check for secret doors & loose flagstones.
Smon: Did the other 2 go home?
chris107: No the two elves are just hanging around behind you
Smon: ok
chris107: You find a simple silver necklace on one of the corpses, nothing else.
Smon: I'll pocket it
Smon: "Reckon I'll buy a studded harness with my share, ladies love the studs..."
chris107:
Smon: I'll check door for traps then carefully raise the bar on the door & set it down before opening door.
chris107: You detect no traps, the bar is heavy. DC athletics check please.
Smon: /roll d20+3
Smon rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 14, (+3) = 17
chris107: Your muscles bunch as you lay the heavy bar upon the ground.
Smon: "We should get home soon, Djela the belly dancer will be missing me..."
chris107: Bill DC 5 Perception roll please
DESTROYERBILL rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 10, (+3) = 13
chris107: Brigar notices the flickering of torchlight coming up the steps you just entered by...
Smon: "Djela is always happy to see a man with a full pouch."
Smon: I push the door open.
DESTROYERBILL: i get ready
chris107: The door opens onto early evening sunshine.
DESTROYERBILL: thers someone coming
Smon: Larsenio smiles with relief at the daylight, then turns as Brigar calls out.
chris107: The huge barbarian sees a woman approaching up the steps with a torch... Enter Ulysses
Smon: I melt into the shadows, hands on sword hilts.
Smon: /roll d20+7
Smon rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 9, (+7) = 16
chris107: DC 15
Smon: 16 for my stealth so unseen
AmalgamGames: A young Arabic-looking woman in heavy armor goes up the stairs, weapon ready. After seeing who it is, she relaxes her stance and speaks in a vaguely Arabic accent, "Ah, it is only you. I have come to warn you."
Smon: (would normally be DC 16 as Ulysses WIS 18 I believe = 16 Passive per, still pass)
AmalgamGames: "The woman you talked to, I believe she has sent you here to die."
DESTROYERBILL: hello fair maden
Smon: A devilishly handsome fellow of moderate height emerges from the shadows to Ulysses' left.
DESTROYERBILL: maiden
Smon: He bows. "Welcome m'lady. I am Larsenio, known as Mouse."
Smon: "Do go on."
Smon: "Please explain her nefarious plan, who you are, and how you know this."
AmalgamGames: "I am pleased that you have confirmed my suspicions that you should be saved. I am Ulysses, priestess of Ishtar. Just after you left the Silver Eel, she told some ogres to await her command, and that you were not supposed to live. Am I correct that this involves undead?"
Smon: "You may have seen the ghoul yonder, slain by my comrades. And the two dead Skandiks."
Smon: "She said they worked for her and sent us here to claim money from them/
Smon: Mouse looks Ulysses up and down, liking what he sees. "You have some fine armour there, m'lady. A warrior priestess of Ishtar - from distant Tarantis?"
Smon: OOC did she say to meet her at Sword Rat Resthouse?
chris107: She said you could proberbly find her there. Yes.
AmalgamGames: "Thank you, sir. Yes, my homeland of Tarantis is far now, but I come in service of the Goddess of Love and War as a missionary. I detest little above undead, and would wish to accompany you to investigate her possible involvement with the creatures."
chris107: internets down again, am I still here?
AmalgamGames: (Yes.)
chris107: phew
chris107: thanks
Smon: "The ogres may be waiting for us now at the far end of the tunnel. Perhaps we should return to the city by a different path?"
AmalgamGames: (Also, I closed the tab we had our messages in. Am I forgetting anything she said?)
chris107: (It was overheard converation, what you remember is what you remember )
AmalgamGames: (Fair!)
AmalgamGames: "I have with me a spare change of clothes. If I change into them and cover myself in dirt, perhaps we could disguise ourselves as peasants?"
Smon: "If we hurry we should reach the Gate of the Gods before it closes for the night. Or we can risk the tunnel again."
AmalgamGames: "We could go back the way we came through the hovel district."
Smon: "Yes... I'll bring up the rear."
chris107: Mouse knows his way back to the Gate of the Gods from here.
chris107: or you could return through the hovel
Smon: OOC We are east of the city having come through an under-river tunnel to the cemetery AG. I'm worried she might be watching the tunnel exit near her hotel.
chris107: The last rays of the evening sun are fading outside the mausoleum..
Smon: Brigar is telling me to go back down the tunnel.
Smon: We'll go that way, Brigar in front.
AmalgamGames: "If there are ogres ahead, at least we will not be surprised."
chris107: Okay, you make it back through the tunnel without incident.
Smon: Once we get back into the hovel, if not attacked, I'll scout ahead sneaking.
AmalgamGames: We are going back through the hovels, then?
Smon: yes
AmalgamGames: I will remain in my armor.
chris107: Into the shabby hovel, the sparse furniture, unmade beds and spoiled food complete the picture
Smon: I sneak over to the exit door to the street & listen.
Smon: for ogres.
chris107 rolls 1d6 and gets: 2,
Smon: OOC 2 ogres vs 3-5 of us we'd be squashed.
chris107: All is quiet in the narrow allyway outside.
chris107: DC18 perception check for each of you please
Smon: OK, I'll give the hovel interior a quick check for loot before we leave.
AmalgamGames rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 10, (+6) = 16
Smon: /roll d20+6
Smon rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 19, (+6) = 25
Smon:
chris107: (I will not be using balanced encounters and CR )
DESTROYERBILL rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 19, (+3) = 22
Smon: Ears of the Tiger!
chris107: Perhaps it is the key that inspires you but as you creep towards or listen at the door, two of you notice a small chest camoflaged under piles of rubbish.
Smon: I'll try the key in the lock.
chris107: It fits and turns easily
Smon: Nodding quietly to keen-eyed Brigar.
AmalgamGames: I keep watch while my newfound companions look in the chest.
chris107: Inside, practicaly filling the chest and wrapped in soft leather is a hand axe of strange design. OOC bear with me I have a picture.
Smon: I lift out the leather-wrapped axe, unfurling the strips to examine my find.
chris107: https://imgur.com/nGNvyPR
chris107: Hope that works?
AmalgamGames: WOrks.
Smon: "Nice."
chris107: The metal of the head is some kind of hardened silver.
Smon: I'll check the bottom of the chest for hidden compartment too.
chris107: After much searching you are pretty sure that there arenone.
Smon: I will use the axe, it's simple & light so I can use it ok
Smon: actually it's not finesse so I can't use it well.
DESTROYERBILL: you can do this
Smon: Guess I stick to shortswords.
Smon: I'll try to appraise its value.
Smon: Then stick it in belt (head up) & open the door to street.
chris107: DC 15 appraise check (int)
Smon: /roll d20+2
Smon rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 10, (+2) = 12
chris107: The filthy ally is quiet, it's almost fully dark now.
Smon: "Back to Silver Eel, boys & girl?"
AmalgamGames: "Yes. Lead the way."
DESTROYERBILL: ok
Smon: "I don't suppose we should bother the Constables with news of the dead brothers and the ghoul. They're very busy. OK, this way..."
Smon: I lead them back to the Eel steering clear of the Sword Rat.
chris107: You trudge through the fetid mess of the city's back allys. Finaly returning onto the dimlylit Stret of Shadows.
chris107: Smokey torches seem to make the shadows around them seem even darker.
chris107: There are quite a number of people around now that night is falling. All of them looking furtive, dirty and mean.
chris107 rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
DESTROYERBILL: ill go confront murienne
chris107: But streetwise Mouse gets you to the rowdy tavern with no trouble.
Smon: I nod to my fellow furtive dirty & mean street rats.
chris107: Murinae is not at the tavern.
Smon: "You off, Brigar?"
chris107: But the bulky form of the two ogres can be seen through the crowds.
DESTROYERBILL: yes
AmalgamGames: When we arrive, I suggest that I go in first to see if the ogres or the woman are here.
DESTROYERBILL: okay go ahead
AmalgamGames: (Sorry, didn't see that thing about the ogres first.)
Smon: "Okay Brigar, I'll keep an eye on the ogres and come warn you if they leave."
chris107: (No probs, is Brigar heading off to the Sword-Rat Resthouse?
DESTROYERBILL: okay
Smon: yup
DESTROYERBILL: yes
chris107: Okay. I'll deal with Bill first.
Smon: I'll get a drink and settle down to watch the ogres from a quiet alcove.
Smon: "Good luck Brigar."
AmalgamGames: I offer to accompany Bill.
AmalgamGames: *Brigar
chris107: The low born scum of the city part as the mighty barbarian heads up the Street ofShadows towards the resthouse.
AmalgamGames: (Your switching names is confusing me!)
DESTROYERBILL: you can come
AmalgamGames: "Thank you, barbarian. I will watch your back."
chris107: Ulysses follows on in his wake.
Smon: "Crazy fools, that's the last I'll see of those two... hmm, this small beer is extra watery tonight."
Smon: I look to see if Djela is performing with her panther & if I can tempt any serving wenches to my lap with a shiny gold coin.
chris107: It is only a short walk and you stand before the closed door and shadowed, shuttered windows of the Sword Rat. A shabby sign is all that proclaims its use to the world
Smon: "Not Bragga the Robust though, her on my lap, she'd squash me..."
chris107: @ Simon, Djela is just about to start her evening 'set'. Coingirls flock to you at the sight of gold
chris107: @ AG & Bill... All is quiet.
Smon: "Hey, ladies, plenty of Mouse for everyone!"
DESTROYERBILL: good
AmalgamGames: I suggest to Brigar that we go inside.
DESTROYERBILL: lets do that
Smon: Largely concealed beneath a pair of buxom tavern girls, Mouse continues to keep an eye on the ogre duo.
chris107: The door is stiff, DC 10 Athletics check to open it first time.
DESTROYERBILL rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 19, (+5) = 24
chris107:
AmalgamGames: (Ah yes, Mouse is concealing his presence. Smart.)
Smon: INT 10 baby.
chris107: The door flies open, hanging of it's hinges as the mighty Barbarian flexes his muscles!
chris107: Inside is a dimly lit main room 15' N-S / 25' E-W
AmalgamGames: I try to close the door back once we're inside. Is the door broken?
chris107: There are several single cots spread around the outsides and a small staircase leads off from the south wall.
AmalgamGames: (Is it illegal to cast harmless magic here?)
chris107: The cots are all empty but stood around a small fire place are three small wragged children, two boys and a girl. Murinae is playing catch with them.
chris107: (You are a stranger in town and do not know their customs.)
chris107: Ulysses steps within and tries to mend the door?
chris107: What is Brigar doing?
AmalgamGames: Yes, Mending it was the idea. Without knowing otherwise, I will cast Mending.
chris107: Murinae looks up, startled. Her children glare at you.
DESTROYERBILL: im asking her what is this all about
chris107: Okay, the beautiful Gishmesh slips within the house and with a wave of her hand and a slight shimmer as if starlight had fallen upon it, the door is mended.
chris107: Burly Brigar makes his demands.
chris107: Murinae huddles her children around her and looks at you answering
chris107: "Why sir, what do you mean? You know what I asked of you? Have you found those two ruffians?"
DESTROYERBILL: yeah and a lot of ghouuls
chris107: Her children start to weep, pitiously
chris107: "Ghouls?!" She seems genuinly shocked.
DESTROYERBILL: and why the hell are ther ogers outside
AmalgamGames: I approach her children and try to calm them down.
chris107: "Ogres outside? Where?!"
chris107: She pushes her children behind her. They cling to momma's legs, peeking out at Ulysses with cold black eyes.
chris107: Initiative please.
chris107: Murinae
DESTROYERBILL rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 17, (+3) = 20
AmalgamGames rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 20, (+3) = 23
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 13, (+2) = 15
DESTROYERBILL: rage
chris107: Children
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 4, (+2) = 6
DESTROYERBILL: ha ha ha
AmalgamGames: That should be a 22, sorry.
chris107: Okay, I'll explain what you see then you can give me your actions in initiative order.
AmalgamGames: I got my Dex and Str mixed.
chris107: As you watch, horrified. You see the features of both mother and children warp and change. Whiskers sprout, noses elongate into snouts, their legs twis and become rodent like, they are changing!
chris107: Bill on you.
DESTROYERBILL: i rage
Smon: LOL
Smon: Knew you guys should've asked to borrow my axe.
DESTROYERBILL: idont rage
chris107: Rae is your bonus action Bill
DESTROYERBILL: okay
chris107: If you choose to stop raging, that will be one rage down for the day?
Smon: He used 1 rage before
DESTROYERBILL: ill take the rage
DESTROYERBILL: i attak
chris107: Cool, Brigar rages! Roll your attack.
chris107: AC12
DESTROYERBILL rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 2, (+5) = 7
chris107: The Barbarians great axe swings wide.
Smon: Mouse's hand falls from the shapely rump of Rinna the Well-Rounded to the hilt of the silver hand axe. He has an odd feeling, like it's calling to him. "Naw, probably nothing."
chris107: AG, your turn.
AmalgamGames: Can I speak and still ready an action?
chris107: yup
Smon: "Wonder why two ruffians had a silvered weapon concealed in their room. What could they have been needing it for... Hey there! More ale!"
chris107: @ Simon, ale is flowing and the shapely Altani is dancing up a storm. From what he can see the two Ogres are enjoying the show too.
AmalgamGames: Okay then, I ready an action to attack if one of the things comes within melee range, but I first try to appeal to them, "Please, I think this is a misunderstanding! Can we not talk this over before shedding needless blood?"
Smon: "I'm guessing Murinae's a vampire. She's likely sucking on that Ulysses lass right now..."
chris107: The Princesses words seem to fall upon only (now) mostly ratty ears!
Smon: "Best live and let live, that's what I always say, eh Rinna my love?"
chris107: @ AG - you use a ready action to strike if they come within range?
AmalgamGames: Yes, Chris.
chris107: The ratty transformation continues.
chris107: Thanks
chris107: A horrible sight.
AmalgamGames: If that happens, I would like to use my bonus action to make a second attack on the creature.
chris107: The children have soon assumed the shape of huge ravenous rats. But that is as nothing compared to the mother.
chris107: (Ishter realm is war then? Cool)
Smon: "Amazing how that panther can pluck garments from Djela's body without grazing her skin... "
chris107: Murinaes form seems to swell and expand, growing and wriggling until she is nothing but a tower of squealing vermin!
Smon: :-O
DESTROYERBILL: seriusly
chris107: The column of rats suddenly bursts assunder and they engulf even the huge form of Brigar!
AmalgamGames: ...I'm going to need that bonus attack.
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 1, (+2) = 3
Smon: (only way you'd get a bonus attack is if you had 2 light weapons & it's your own turn)
DESTROYERBILL: bad or good
DESTROYERBILL: ?
chris107: But he fends them off, throwing rats hither and zither as they crawl over him.
chris107: The rat swarm attacked Brigar, Bill.
chris107: and missed
DESTROYERBILL: i kno
DESTROYERBILL: w
Smon: (or you were using a spell like spiritual weapon)
AmalgamGames: (No, the passage didn't say anything about light weapons I don't think. And if it's a readied attack, doesn't that count as being my turn?)
Smon: no
chris107: So good for you, bad for her.
DESTROYERBILL: ok
AmalgamGames: (Oh. I see.)
Smon: PHB pg 195 Two Weapon Fighting
AmalgamGames: (It isn't two-weapon fighting, it's an extra attack from my class feature.)
AmalgamGames: (I use a bonus action Wis mod times per day to gain an extra attack.)
chris107: DM - I am assuming that Ulysees is a cleric of a war domain god. She held her attack action until something was in range. She can therefore make a bonus attack ,
AmalgamGames: (TY, Chris for your generous judgement.)
Smon: Oh I see, yes you get 4 bonus attacks per long rest.
AmalgamGames: (And yes, it is the War domain because Ishtar is a war goddess.)
Smon: Still only on your own turn though, Ready & Attack are different
Smon: Anyway it's about to be your go
chris107: Please see your PM Simon.
Smon: haven't received PM in chat
chris107: I sent one, will send again now.
chris107 sent you a private message. If it did not open automatically, check for blocked popups and/or [Click Here]

Smon:
DESTROYERBILL: sigh
chris107: Once more the disconcerted Brigar's mighty swings fail to hit the swarming mass of rats.
AmalgamGames: (Just pretend the rats are doors!)
chris107:
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 14, (+2) = 16
chris107: Brigar is AC 16?
chris107: That's what I have on record so I'll assume that's a hit.
chris107 rolls 2d6 and gets: 3, 4, = 7
chris107: Halved for rage = 3
chris107: The tiny sharp fangs of the rats find their way into all sorts of unpleasent places as they swarm around the barbarian.
chris107: Ulysses turn.
Smon: Brigar 12/15
AmalgamGames: I again use my double attacks on one of the rats.
AmalgamGames rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 1, (+5) = 6

AmalgamGames: Nooooo!
chris107: Slipping on the squished sibling you flail wildly.
chris107: Now the children have your measure and use their pack tactics to better hit.
AmalgamGames: Correction: I mace wildly

chris107: With a mighty blow a second rat is splatted!
AmalgamGames: "You still have one baby left! Surrender now and it can live."
chris107: No pack tactics left for the remainder.
chris107: @ Simon. There is a terible commotion at the door of the Silver Eel. A white skinned Dragon born is shouting and gesturing wildly to be heard over the dancing.
chris107: Back to last child v Ulysees
chris107 rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 9, (+4) = 13
