Meanwhile in Selatine an adventurer party recently reached the 4th level and returned, minus one member eaten by depraved cannibal berserkers. They reported encountering a strange sorceress ascending a lift from level 5. She claimed to be one of the Vrilya, a mysterious subterranean race.
Keelia: serious? someone got eaten?

Smon: A level 3 elf wizard.  He sacrificed himself to draw off the berserkers, allowing Nemesis the amazon & the others to escape.
chris107: (The Manor House adventure has been lurking for some time I think?)

Smon: OOC Jelly had to leave early - so after Trystan & his servant Raeka had left the others decided to attack the berserkers, which didn't go well!

Our records indicate it's likely Erdea Manor, an old Nerathi ruin about 5 miles west of here, in the hills just north of the trail. Keep an eye out for a faint trail off the path before you hit the crossroads to Bratanis and Kalmisj."

Smon: GM: Heading west from the Lighthouse, you cross a mile of heathland and woods then the road heads up into a narrow gorge that leads up into the hills. Here and there in the gorge you see scattered bones, where some of Oriax's orcs were ambushed during the liberation of these lands.

Smon: About a quarter mile down the trail - no sign of dwarven sentries - Berta returns and reports ruins ahead, and a broad stairway descending into a hillside.
Smon: Also, four ogres are camped out in the ruins!
chris107: Gulp...
Keelia: Bright Star draws her bow immediately.
chris107: He slips Berta back up his sleeve

chris107: "If we can bring one down with concentrated missile and magic fire before they get to us?..."he leaves it hanging.
Smon: Manor Ruins. The manor grounds stand in ruins after several centuries of neglect. Remains of a few structures can be seen, with most remaining walls having been worn down to 3 to 5 feet in height. Two structures have withstood the test of time – an old keep to the north-east and a 20 foot tall tower nto the south-west. A well east of the tower remains mostly intact also. In the hillside to the west of the manor structures is a staircase descending into the depths.
Keelia: Can Bright Star sneak close enough to target an Ogre from a distance?
Smon: Are you all sneaking up?
chris107: Where are the Ogres among the ruins?

Smon: It's a nice sunny bright afternoon.

Smon: Bright Star sneaks forward through the undergrowth.

chris107: Mordred doesn't want to spoil BS's sneaking. He hangs back too
Keelia: She'll get within range to shoot with her bow, hopefully unseen
Smon: She sees ahead (west) the ogres camped in a clear area around a fire pit between an old well and the keep to north, roasting what looks to be a dwarf. SW of the ogre camp is the lone tower. A ruined wall runs from the tower to the hillside, to the west about 80' beyond the ogre camp, where the archway can be seen with broad steps heading down.
chris107: And we can draw them towards us perhaps, so you can continue to pepper them with unseen arrows while we attack ?
Keelia: (that's the hope  )
JamesDevil: you want to take your shot first or shuld i call them over for a chat?
Keelia: If she's in range, she'll take the shot at the nearest.
Keelia: (then retreat back towards the others, if she's chased)
Smon: BS gets to within 50' of the ogre camp. The bulky creatures appear to be keeping an eye on the keep 30' to the north - narrow stone stairs lead up 8' to the keep's battered looking heavy door.

Smon: GM: After 20' the east tunnel comes to a side tunnel to your right/S. To the east it continues 30' then turns right/S. Looking down the S fork you see that after 10' it splits into a Y, running SW and SE.
Keelia: So, North, then East off the first octagonal room.

Smon: The rooms and corridors of this zone sport a
serpentine motif—scale-pattern tiles, sinuously carved
arches, and bas-reliefs of coiled snakes, ouroboroses, and
striking serpents are commonplace. The air here holds a faint reptilian odor,
punctuated by the marshy smell of mud and stagnant water.

Smon: GM: You continue east past the side tunnel. After 30' it turns south then jags east again after 10', and after 10' opens into a vaulted chamber ahead, about 30x30. The chamber looks like an old shrine, with Old carvings & religious symbols painted over by pictographs.

Smon: All seems quiet, though Danor's loud clanking is quite distracting.

Smon: The shrine has no hidden exits you can find, though the 10' of the NE corner is sheered off. Looks to Danor w stonecunning this was due to issues with the rock, an igneous intrusion into the sandstone they were working around.
Smon: You go back to the Y junction and down 10'. The Y tunnels both run 20' into chambers.

Smon: BS smells rotten meat from the SW chamber

Keelia: she informs Danor of this. It's probably zombies

Smon: The SW tunnel ends at a 30x30 chamber. A shank of ripe meat hangs from the ceiling 4' above the floor on a length of twine. The chamber is dank but seems otherwise empty.
JamesDevil: Danor calls back to BS, its just some rotten meat, no zombies
Smon: On closer look the floor below the meat looks a bit suspicious to Danor.
Keelia: Bright Star comes to look
JamesDevil: Danor will slowly approach the meat
Keelia: she checks out the floor
Smon: BS can see the crude covering of a pit 10x10 under the meat. Danor is walking towards it...
JamesDevil: Danor is focused on the meat

Smon: GM: You return to the fork then SE to 2nd chamber - this one is 20' n-s by 30' e-w with an exit arch in east wall. In the centre are 4 wooden chairs round a table covered in coins.

Smon: Looks like silver coins, several hundred.
Keelia: bright star will tell Danor to wait.
Keelia: she wants to investigate the area very carefully, checking for traps

Smon: The east arch leads to a tunnel that runs 20' into a second, larger chamber it looks like.
Keelia: anything suspicious in the hall?
Smon: BS goes to the archway east.

Smon: Looking down the 20' tunnel, the east chamber looks to be 30x30, with an exit in the east wall opposite. BS can see empty wall sconces & painted pictographs.
Smon: As she watches the east chamber, a foot-long beetle comes into sight, pursued by a huge toad easily 2' wide! It gulps up the beetle!
Keelia: OK, so maybe we call it there?
Smon: sure
