Smon: Last lvl2 group session - http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2017/06/day-2-lvl-12-group-shelos-rescued-258-xp.html
chris107: Nice
4:03pm 2017-6-10 Prince Skylio Has entered the room
Smon: Hi Kyle!
Prince Skylio: Hello
Smon: GM: So last session you survived a terrible battle with the undead hordes and returned the shepherd Shelos to Bratanis.
chris107: And we have free lodgings at the inn?
Smon: After a week at the Bratanis Inn paid for by Lady Thuvia, enjoying soft beds and the attentions of the serving wenches, you are rested and ready for more adventures.
chris107: "maybe go back and look deeper down under the Sky father idol?"
chris107: "Our map shows several enexplored tunnels."
Smon: There are likely still Cultists in the dungeons beneath Sky God Idol, but you also hear a rumour one evening from Shelos that someone has erected a rope bridge across Goblin Gulley just 2 miles out of town to the north.
Prince Skylio: "I think we should head for the Gulley"
Smon: Shelos: "I don't like it - there are old slave pits down there, dating from ancient times! Could be Goblins infestin' the place again. Old Erhurr is right worried, his shack's not a mile from the Gulley."
chris107: "Very well! let's grab some sandwiches and go take a look."
Smon: /roll d8
Smon rolls 1d8 and gets: 3,
Smon: There's a slight drizzle as you step outside with your sandwiches. The sun is just setting over the western mountains.
Prince Skylio: "Where can we find Erhurr?"
Smon: Shelos: "Friends, I'll take you through the wood to Erhurr's shack, it's a bit hidden away. He keeps sheep for the Lady, like most of us."
Prince Skylio: Zagaar drools... "sheep..."
Smon: Shelos leads you out of town, north into hilly woodland.
Smon: Shelos casts a disconcerted glance at his half-orc companion.
chris107: Mordred hangs his head in shame at the low company he finds himself keeping.
Smon: A short 20 minute hike brings you out into a grassy dell, where two old men are securing several dozen sheep in a sheep pen for the night, aided by a large black-furred shep-hound.
Smon: Through the open doorway of a nearby hut you can see an old woman cooking dinner.
Smon: Delicious aroma of mutton and leek wafts in your direction.
chris107: yum
Smon: Shelos: "Those old geezers are Erhurr and his brother Rigus. The woman is Olivia, his wife."
Smon: Shelos raises his crooked staff in greeting as the old men look up from securing the last sheep: "Hail, friends!"
chris107: Mordred waves in a friendly fashion to the old geezers.
Smon: The oldsters wave back. "Hail, friends! I be Erhurr! You 'ere about the Gulley?"
chris107: "Indeed, I believe you have an Orc infestation?"
Smon: Shelos: "Aye, these are the heroes saved my life from the Thanatics!"
chris107: "Erm Goblin, Goblin infestation."
chris107: "No offence."
Smon: Erhurr eyes Zagaar doubtfully. "Yerr... could be Goblins. Used to be goblins, down in the Gulley!"
Prince Skylio: Zagaar is oblivious to the conversation as he salivates while staring at the sheep
Prince Skylio: ".....Uh...Yeah....Goblins"
Smon: The shephound gives Zagaar a meaningful look. "Grrr." The virtue of his sheep is clearly a priority.
Prince Skylio: "good doggy"
chris107: Hurrying along Mordred attempts to find out more about the Goblin problem.
Smon: (just looking at sheepdog pics ) - https://image.shutterstock.com/z/stock-photo-portrait-of-a-purebred-french-sheepdog-briard-106845731.jpg
Smon: The shepherds invite you both inside, and you are soon enjoying tasty mutton broth at their table.
chris107: looks more sheep than sheepdog.
Smon: Erhurr: "Was up that way 'bout three days back..."
Smon: (yeah - this one has more the look - https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/brown-white-border-collie-sheepdog-taken-barrhead-east-renfrewshire-scotland-october-bob-flynn-61620054.jpg
Smon: /roll d12x3
Smon Rolls 1d12x3 and gets:
11 = 11
7 = 7
9 = 9
Smon: Olivia: "I heard those are old slave pits... Didn't a boy from town disappear there two years back? Crann was his name? Some say he still lives there, gone feral..."
chris107: "You actually see any Goblins Erhurr?"
Smon: Rigus: "I keep the sheep away from that gulley! Some say strange mutant *things* still lurk in the depths..."
chris107: Mordred tuts sympatheticaly over Crann's fate.
Smon: Erhurr shakes his head. "Naw, didn't see no goblins. But they can hide real good."
Prince Skylio: Zagaar finally diverts his attention from the mutton "..what things?"
Smon: Rigus: "Mutants... descended from the slaves... things experimented on, thousands of years ago! The old Doomfire Empire - the Demonbrood, like yon Oriax feller!"
chris107: "Well I guess we can go and investigate, Zagaar?"
Prince Skylio: "Count me in"
chris107: "Oriax?"
Smon: Erhurr: "If you plan on going there, look out for a huge tree on the edge of the ravine. There's a cave beneath the roots that leads down to the Pits."
chris107: "Thanks. We'll keep an eye out for it."
Smon: Rigus: "Aye, Oriax, the one with all the slave girls! Lord Hakeem drove him out of his tower last year. 5 leagues from here, on the coast."
chris107: "Sounds like an unpleasent fellow."
Smon: GM: It's now full night outside.
Smon: Erhurr: "Ye'll be sleeping here tonight?"
chris107: "Come then, my gruesome friend. Let's go look for this tree."
chris107: "Or maybe in the morning."
Smon: GM: You head outside, the first evening stars and the gleam of Heaven's Belt stretch across the sky, partly obscured by cloud cover.
Smon: Erhurr: "We only got one bed - reckon you two can share it tonight, our old bones will last a night on the floor."
Prince Skylio: Zagaar belches loudly. "thanks for the broth"
Smon: Rigus sighs, rubbing his back.
chris107: "I'm sure Zagaar is used to sleeping rough."
chris107: "He'll be fine on the floor." Mordred grabs the bed.
Smon: LOL
Smon: Mordred esconces himself on the bed, large enough for three old folks.
Prince Skylio: Zagaar jumps on the other side of bed "We're top & tailing, and that's final"
chris107: ewwwww
Smon: The shepherds start to bed down on the floor, moving the table to one side.
Prince Skylio: "sweet dreams Mordred"
Smon: GM: You settle down despite Mordred's protestations.
chris107: Mordred resigns himself and sleeps as best he can.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 2,
Smon: The night passes peacefully, in the morning you wake, breakfasting on gruel.
Smon: /roll d8
Smon rolls 1d8 and gets: 8,
chris107: "So this is gruel?"
Smon: Heading outside you see it's a bright sunny day.
chris107: "Very nourishing I'm sure."
Smon: Olivia: "Aye, my lord. From oats."
chris107: "Come Zagaar, you foul brute. let us away and slay some Goblins for these old people."
Smon: The shephound is still guarding the sheep and staring at Zagaar -https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQXl0LER6YvDYebkWO2V30jNx_34uZpput-99Huh3T3hSbotphaFw

Smon: GM: The shepherds point you in the right direction (Shelos headed back before dinner last night).
Prince Skylio: Zagaar offers his hand for the dog to smell
chris107: Nice dawgie
Smon: CHA+Prof check
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 18, (+2) = 20
Smon: The dog sniffs Zagaar's hand, then nuzzles it.
Smon: Erhurr: "He likes you!"
Smon: Rigus: "He's a good dog, Spot. Drove a wolf off last year!"
Prince Skylio: Zagaar almost forces a smile, "good dog"
chris107: (They have similar teeth, thinks Mordred silently)
Smon: You bid the shepherds farewell.
chris107: Mordred retrieves Polgara from his wizard's pocket.
Prince Skylio: "That owl would look better on a spit roast"
chris107: Mordred studiously ignores the foul mouthed Orc.
Smon: A mile of hiking north through hilly woodland, a large ridgeline lies ahead. Just south of the ridge runs a gorge about 30' across, a marshy stream in the bottom. A large oak rises on your side of the gulley.
chris107: "Fly my beautiful Polgara, warn us of any danger that may lurk ahead!"
Smon: The gorge is about 60' deep; looking down you see the rope bridge about 30' down, straddling the gulley.
Smon: You can see it leads to a dark entrance on the north side, presumably there is similar on your side, directly below you.
Smon: As Polgara flies over the oak tree, suddenly two small arrows shoot out from the tree!
Smon: /roll d20+4x2
Smon Rolls 1d20+4x2 and gets:
19 (+4) = 23
15 (+4) = 19
chris107: Mordred ties his rope off around the tree.
chris107: Or maybe not!
chris107: Poor Polgara!
Smon: The owl takes 10 dmg and vanishes.
chris107: (Kyle is having hysterics over Polgara's fate)
Smon: You hear high pitched chittering cheers from the tree, and see two Goblin archers poking out of the leaves.
Smon: Their great green melon-heads laughing in triumph.
Prince Skylio: Zagaar glances at Mordred and tries to stifle his laughter
chris107: "You little Goblon bastards!" rages Mordred. Forgetting his gentlemanly manners for a moment.
chris107: He looks for rocks to hurl at them.
Smon: "Eek! Ooman! Anz Orc!"
Smon: The Goblins see you near the edge of the gorge and aim their bows at you...
Smon: roll init?
chris107: (Actually I have a light crossbow)
Prince Skylio: Zagaar realises Mordred is angry "For Polegera! Or whatever it was called"
Prince Skylio: He attempts to throw a rock at one of the orcs
chris107: Looking for cover, Mordred gets his X bow ready.
chris107 rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 10, (+3) = 13
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20-1 and gets: 6, (-1) = 5

Smon: The goblins are shooting at Zagaar.

chris107 rolls 1d8+3 and gets: 8, (+3) = 11

Prince Skylio rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 1, (+4) = 5
Smon: What was your action?
Prince Skylio: throwing a rock
Smon: OK, it sails past, over the gulley and into the stream below.
chris107: Mordred takes carful aim at the owl muredering bastard remaining in the tree.
Smon: Morded reloads & can shoot again
Smon: AC 15 w cover

Prince Skylio: Zagaar attempts to hurl another rock at his attacker in a rage
Smon: Zagaar can reach the bottom of the tree & climb, or duck into a dark cave entry he spots among the tangled roots.
Smon: rock is fine
Prince Skylio:
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 4, (+4) = 8
Smon: The goblin laughs at Zagaar, "Can't 'it me, nar nar nar!"
Smon: Mordred can fire a 3rd bolt (keep track)
chris107: Calmer now. Mordred draws a bead on the laughing Gobbo
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 19, (+5) = 24
Smon:
Prince Skylio: Zagaar stamps his feet in anger
chris107 rolls 1d8+3 and gets: 6, (+3) = 9
Smon: *thunk*
Smon: The bolt takes it in the side, it screams and crashes from the branches.
chris107: Mordred looks a little molified.
Prince Skylio: Zagaar calms down
Smon: With a thump it lands in a tangled heap below the tree, red tongue lolling out.
Prince Skylio: "Well you avenged your flying rat thing. Well done"
chris107: "Nasty wound that Zagaar. Better watch out. Goblin arrows are often poisoned."
Smon: Its shortbow lies nearby, arrows scattered from its quiver.
Smon: (Zagaar is a terrible shot, ATT +1 w DEX bow)
chris107: Can Mordred recover any of his bolts?
Smon: The two bolts that killed the goblins are recoverable.
Prince Skylio: "Any way to check for poisoning?"
chris107: He does so.
Smon: The arrows don't seem poisoned, but you may want to bind the wound (short rest)?
Prince Skylio:
chris107: "Yeah, lets rest up for an hour. Don't even think about asking me to suck the poison out."
Smon: Zagaar binds his wound as you catch your breath, keeping an eye on the cave entry.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
Prince Skylio rolls 1d10+1 and gets: 10, (+1) = 11
Prince Skylio: 18/18
Smon: OK you bind your wound and are back to full hp, 1 hd left.
Smon: It's now about 10am.
Smon: Between the roots you see the dirt cave gives way to old well worn stone steps leading downwards.
chris107: Mordred looks around the tree. Tying his rope carfuly.
chris107: Oh
Prince Skylio: Zagaar picks up the shortbow. "A coward's weapon, but I can't aim any worse than I did with those rocks"
chris107: "Down the steps then big guy?"
Smon: About 3' wide and 6' high, could go down single file. It would also be possible to lower yourself down on rope to the bridge.
Prince Skylio: Zagaar shrugs "steps for me"
chris107: Mordred will follow the brutish Orc down the steps.
Smon: GM: You head down the steps, soon arriving in a low ceilinged stone-flagged chamber.
Smon: A second flight of steps leads down to the south.
Smon: Light source?
Prince Skylio: (is there enough space for me to swing my hammer?)
Smon: Yes.
chris107: Mordred hunts in his adventurers pack for a torch.
Prince Skylio: hooray
chris107: He will light it and carry it in his shield hand.
Smon: Mordred lights a torch, illuminating ancient rusted iron rings embedded in the walls.
chris107: Slinging his shield onto his back.
Smon: There is a bit of stick-figure grafitti on the walls.
Smon: Can make WIS+Prof perception rolls
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 19, (+2) = 21
Smon: Morded hears goblin chittering from down the steps. They don't seem alarmed/alert.
chris107: "You speak Goblin, Zagaar?" He whispers.
chris107: Pointing at the sourse of the noise.
Prince Skylio: (Simon, can orcs speak Goblin? Sorry)
Smon: (you not have comp languages ritual Mordred?)
chris107: (No, I took Identify)
Smon: oh well
chris107: (Unfortunately)
chris107: "Call them in your uncooth tongue Zagaar and wait for them to appear then bash their heads in with your hammer. I will fire my little crossbow."
Smon: Zagaar knows Orc, he can make a raw INT check to get the gist of goblins' talk.
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 15, (+3) = 18
Smon: nice! Quite a scholar of Goblin.
Prince Skylio: "Hold up Mordred. I'll try & listen..."
Smon: "Chief says we're gonna hit the farm tonight! Three old oomanz, one nasty dog, and LOTS of fat tasty sheep!"
Smon: "No fat tasty oomanz! No good! I likes me the chilren best..."

chris107: "Then I suggest we go spoil their plans. The rotters!"
Smon: It sounds like 4 separate voices.
Prince Skylio: "Something about the do..." Zagaar recalls the sheepdog nuzzling his hand "That's it. We're killing all of them"
chris107: "After you old boy!"
chris107: Mordred draws his slender sword.
chris107: Revenge for his Owl hot in his mind.
Smon: GM: If you take the light down the steps the goblins will spot your approach.
Smon: It looks like very faint daylight down there though so Mordred might be ok leaving it.
chris107: Not if Zagaar charges down first with Dark Vision and I then follow?
Prince Skylio: Zaggar races furiously towards the sound of Goblin's voices with his warhammer drawn
Smon: Yup can do that.
Smon: OK I'll roll perception for them
Smon: /roll d20-1

11 = 11
7 = 7
9 = 9

19 (+4) = 23

chris107: Mordred ties his rope off around the tree.
chris107: Or maybe not!
chris107: Poor Polgara!

Smon: What was your action?
Prince Skylio: throwing a rock
Smon: OK, it sails past, over the gulley and into the stream below.

Smon: rock is fine
Prince Skylio:
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 4, (+4) = 8
Smon: The goblin laughs at Zagaar, "Can't 'it me, nar nar nar!"

chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 19, (+5) = 24

Prince Skylio: someone sitting next to me just got punched
Smon:
chris107:
Prince Skylio: glad to hear it though
chris107: You have come at just the right time Fergus. We have a rope bridge to sneak across to reach deeper into a Goblin lair.
Smon: I thought you were all together in the first session, shows how bad my brain is.
chris107: They are sleeping (we think) at the moment.
Sandor Sunneson: How many goblins?
chris107: We don't know. We have killed 6 so far.
Smon: Following the directions of the shepherds, Sandro makes his way to the ravine in the hilly woods 2 miles north of town, crossed by rope bridge 30' down.
Sandor Sunneson: Hopefully with his high dexterity and stealth, Sandro would be abe to cross said bridge
Sandor Sunneson: how flimsy does the rope bridge look?
Smon: It looks pretty solid.
Smon: Looking around you spot the cave entry in a large oak to your left, steps go down into dark chambers.
Sandor Sunneson: Shall we cross it then??
Smon: Stealthing down the steps you pass through an empty chamber & one heaped with dead goblins, pass through the maw of a green demon face & find your companions in a room on the south side of the rope bridge.
Prince Skylio: "...I'll go last" says Zagaar, reflecting on his questionable sneaking skills
Smon: OOC Fergus you now have 6 ki points per long rest
chris107: "Sandro, good to see you."
Smon: http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2017/05/alessandro-sandro-monk-fergus-pc.html
chris107: "Fancy a little scout across that bridge for us?"
Sandor Sunneson: Hello friends, sorry I took so long to catch up
Sandor Sunneson: I can give it a go, yes
Sandor Sunneson: You 2 not fancy crossing??
chris107: M will cover the Monk with his little crossbow.
Sandor Sunneson: Ok, Sandro will head over
chris107: "I'm all covered in armour."
Smon: Sandro heads over the rope bridge, which sways quite alarmingly.
Smon: The bridge is goblin-made rope and wood, though the support posts are ancient stone carved with demonic horned visages.
Smon: Sandro can make perception (WIS+Prof) & Stealth (DEX+Prof) rolls, in that order.
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 2,
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 9,
Sandor Sunneson: uh oh, lol
Smon: 14 stealth not bad. It looks as if the archway on the far side opens into a bare flagstoned chamber, a spiral stair at the far end leads down. In the middle of the room hangs a rope, tied to a ring inset on the floor.
Smon: The rope hangs down from a hole in the ceiling and disappears out of sight.
Smon: You reach the archway.
Sandor Sunneson: any gobs in sight?
Smon: Scanning the room, it seems empty.
Sandor Sunneson: I'll indicate to the others to make their way over
Smon: The stream rushing by beneath the bridge is quite loud.
Prince Skylio: Zagaar attempts to sneak over in a clumpy and undignified fashion
chris107: Stowing weapons and torch, M carfuly follows
Smon: GM: One by one you cross the swaying rope bridge and join Sandro on the north side.
Sandor Sunneson: cave seems empty, no sign of life at this level
Sandor Sunneson: shall we go on??
Smon: The hole in the chamber ceiling is about 3' wide, the rope hangs down limp from one side, its end tied to the floor ring.
Smon: The spiral steps wind down from the north side.
chris107: M investigates the rope, does it seem to attach to the bridge?
Smon: no, it disappears up through the hole in the 10' high ceiling.
chris107: "Hmmm to a bell maybe? Some kind of alarm?"
Smon: Think like a fireman's pole only more limp.
Prince Skylio: "I wouldn't risk it.."
chris107: M looks up through the hole.
Smon: make wis+prof per check
chris107: avoiding touching the rope
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 2,
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 6, (+2) = 8
Smon: The shaft runs up about 10', opening into a dark chamber above.
Sandor Sunneson: any noises heard from above??
Smon: To see more you could hold your torch up?
chris107: "Anyone fancy shinning up the rope and seeing what's up there?"
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro will give it a go
chris107: Not just yet Simon. Don't want angry Gobbos absailing down on us.
Smon: Sandro shins up the rope, it's slack enough to make climbing easy.
Smon: As he climbs up he suddenly hears urgent high-pitched yells from above.
Sandor Sunneson: is it goblinish?
Sandor Sunneson: or human?
Smon: Zagaar can understand the goblin yelling: "Oomans! Oomans is coming! Wake up!"
chris107: Mordred cocks his crossbow
Prince Skylio: "more of them. Get ready!"
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro will get back down and join his colleagues
Smon: Sandro reaches the lip of the floor above, poking his head up he sees a sort of dark goblin throne room. A small goblin is shaking awake an immensely fat goblin slumped on a throne of wood & bone, while three goblin concubines sleep on furs around.
Smon: Sandro drops down the rope, back into the chamber?
Sandor Sunneson: Ja
Sandor Sunneson: goblin king with some goblin slags boys
chris107: hahah
chris107: Can we light a fire under the hole and try to smoke them out?
Smon: You hear goblin sounds from above.
chris107: "Were there any other exits up there Sandro?"
Smon: If you collect suitable material I guess so.
chris107: okay, thanks.
Smon: There was a door behind the throne.
chris107: Mordred covers the hole with his xbow, he will nail any Goblins looking over.
Sandor Sunneson: Couldn't see, was dark, did see a door behind the throne though
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro will get his darts ready to fire
Smon: "Oomans! We kill you!" comes from above, in Common.
Smon: "Come up here and fight!"
chris107: "Come on down you bird slaying bastards!"
Sandor Sunneson: Lets try and smoke them out
chris107: "Or we'll burn you out!"
Sandor Sunneson: Is there any fire stuff in the adventurers pack?
Smon: You hear loud yelling and screeching from up the hole.
Smon: You have a bit of dry kindling, flint & steel, not big piles of wood.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
Smon: The goblins continue their yelling. They seem to be making as much noise as possible.
chris107: "They're covering something up! Get away from under the hole!"
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 2,
Smon: You fall back from the hole a bit.
chris107: Mordred checks the steps, making sure nothing is sneaking up or down there.
Sandor Sunneson: lets get out of here, they'll pour something through it
Sandor Sunneson: retreat back i mean
Sandor Sunneson: not leave
Smon: Mordred looks down the steps - can make PER check.
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 12, (+5) = 17
chris107: Int
chris107: or 14 wis
Smon: There are recent muddy goblin footprints on the stairs - lots of footprints.
chris107: And the stairs only go down?
Smon: yes
Smon: There's a wide archway leading to the top of descending spiral stairs.
Prince Skylio: Z is visibly angry. "I'm going to crush them"
chris107: Wide enough for two characters to fight if Goblins come up?
Smon: The racket above continues.
Smon: Yes, 2 PCs or 3 goblins.
chris107: And would the spiral favour us fighting down or them fighting up?
Sandor Sunneson: sounds like a good plan?
Smon: Probably neither, really.
Sandor Sunneson: depends if it's clockwise or anticlockwise and if your character is LH or RH
chris107: Okay, thanks.
Smon: It's anticlockwise so you're ok w sword in r hand.
Smon: But it's wide enough not to matter much.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
Smon: Still nothing.
chris107: "Well if old fatty and his slags up there can alert the Goblins below, we may be attacked on two fronts."
Prince Skylio: "You've changed your tune, owl lover"
chris107: Mordred wonders if he would be able to climb up the rope in his armour?
Smon: DC 5 Athletics
Smon: STR+prof
Prince Skylio: "We're sitting ducks here. I'm going to put an end to that racket"
Prince Skylio: Z heads to climb the rope
Sandor Sunneson: Yeah, lets do it
chris107: "Well chaps, I think it's time I went up and did some killing."
Smon: Mordred w STR 16 could climb up easily even w disad.
chris107: Looks like the beast has beaten him to it.

chris107: All dead?
Sandor Sunneson: any loot?
Smon: Nothing on them but copper jewelry on the concubines, a small maul, a scimitar & small shield.
Prince Skylio: "So Mordred. One minute you're the good guy. Next minute you're in a room surrounded by dead goblin prostitutes" chuckles Z
chris107: Mordred looks sideways at the rude, ugly Orc...
chris107: And grins. "Nice isn't it?"
Prince Skylio: Z is taken aback by his response
chris107: "Why not go look through that door behind the throne? I'll cover the steps with my crossbow through this hole."
Prince Skylio: "Let's move Sandro"
Sandor Sunneson: LETS GO
Sandor Sunneson: lets go
Sandor Sunneson: even
Prince Skylio: Still pumped from the battle, Z slams the door with his warhammer
Sandor Sunneson: Do we hear anything first of all ?
Smon: GM: Zagaar slams open the door in the north wall, revealing a small room with a bed of furs and two open chests brimming with coin, 1 copper 1 silver. Atop the chests
Smon: ...Sits a scroll case and a red potion gourd marked with a fire rune.
Smon: Looking more closely, the silver coins have a golden glint - electrum!
chris107: Yay
Sandor Sunneson: cool, how many?
Smon: Must be 2000 ep in there - that's ONE THOUSAND gold!
Smon: Enough to buy a farm and retire...
Sandor Sunneson: and in the other case?
chris107: A sheep farm?
Smon: Well, yes, a sheep farm.
Smon: The other larger chest holds 5000cp.
Smon: The scroll case says "Blessing of Apollo" on it.
Prince Skylio: Z gathers up the loot greedily. "I'm the strongest. I'll carry it. We'll divide it between us later." Z takes tentative care when storing the red potion in his pack.
chris107: Upon hearing this Mordred will shimmy down the rope and guard the steps.
Smon: The electrum weighs 20 lb, copper 50 lb
chris107: "Someone cut off the king's head before we go."
Smon: There's not a lot left of his head.
chris107: hahah
Smon: Mordred shimmys back down the rope & goes to the top of the steps.
Smon: Roll per check - WIS

Smon: Mordred's hand is hurting.
chris107: Where he was stabbed by the concubine?
Smon: He thinks of the beautiful ice floes of Valon, so cool & refreshing.
Smon: Yes
Smon: Where is Sandro?
chris107: "Let's get out of here guys. I think I've been poisoned. Lets get back and warn the farmers!2
Sandor Sunneson: following the others
chris107: Swwwoooonnnnn
Smon: Zagaar climbs back down the rope, Sandro follows him.
Smon: They see Mordred over by the north stairs.
Smon: To the south is the rope bridge.
Smon: Are you leaving now?
Prince Skylio: "Let's get Mordred back to the farm. He doesn't look too good"
Sandor Sunneson: Yes
chris107: A rather green/blue Mordred agrees
Smon: GM: You cross the swaying bridge and head back through the goblin-strewn halls, emerging from the oak dirty & bloody but fairly triumphant.
chris107: "Without their King they may be reticent to launch a raid."
Smon: 20 minutes' hike downhill brings you to the meadows around Erhurr Farm.
chris107: How does Mordred feel?
Smon: Old Erhurr is watching his sheep.
Smon: His hand throbs a bit.
Smon: Erhurr waves: "Ah, good to see you back! You look like you've seen battle?"
chris107: He sucks at the wound, spitting out any vile poison if he can.
Smon: It tastes bloody.
chris107: "The Goblins are planning a raid, tonight!"
Smon: Erhurr blanches.
Smon: "How many?!"
Prince Skylio: "We took down quite a few but there could be more. I slayed their king"
Smon: "Well thank Apollo fer that!"
Smon: "Come back to the house and we'll get you patched up..."
Sandor Sunneson: Could we set a trap for them?
chris107: "Best be safe rather than sorry. let's keep a watch."
chris107: "And be ready for the worst they can throw at us."
Smon: Erhurr: "arr, maybe we should go seek the Lady's aid... She has that Hero with her now, right?"
chris107: "What kind of trap?"
Smon: Erhurr leads you down to his house, tells his wife & brother the news.
Sandor Sunneson: Empty house, goblins go in, lock doors, then burn house down
Sandor Sunneson: and use the electrum to give them a new house
Smon: Rigus: "Good work killin' their leader!"
chris107: "Take Olivia to saftey if you are going to town."
Smon: Erhurr: "I wasnae plannin' on leavin' her!"
chris107: "Do we have something that will set a small coottage on fire before the Goblins escape?"
chris107: "Nor I Erhurr. I will stand and defend your home with you."
Smon: Erhurr: "Spot'll watch the sheep. Brother, wife, let's go see the Lady. And you folks, dinnae be settin me home on fire!"
Smon: You are in a grassy dell but there are many trees around - wet this time of year. There is lots flammable in the cottage.
chris107: "We'll keep Zagaar away from your sheep too."
Smon: Olivia nods: "Perhaps you three could guard the house while we ask for aid?"
Prince Skylio: "You can try" he growls
Prince Skylio: He edges an awkward smile towards Erhurr "Just kidding"
Prince Skylio: . *
Smon: She nods stiffly to Mordred, then the three elderly shepherds head off south on the trail to Bratanis.
Smon: Spot watches Zagaar closely.
chris107: "We will guard your property as if it's our own."
Smon: Erhurr nods thanks.
Prince Skylio: "But mostly your dog"
Prince Skylio: Z edges a smile towards Spot. His most favourable being in the immediate vicinity
Smon: GM: The shepherds disappear from view.Spot wags his tail at Zagaar.
Smon: Wind blows through the treetops.
Smon: It's about 1pm.
Smon: Busy morning.
Smon: You just hanging around waiting?
chris107: Mordred inspects his poor poisoned didgit.
Smon: It seems alright, just sore.
Smon: The pain his gone down a fair bit.
chris107: Good
Sandor Sunneson: Maybe worth going to start a fire at the cave?
chris107: "If the Goblins attack after dark only our ugly friend here will be able to opperate outdoors."
Smon: Two hours later you see the muscular form of Weaponmaster Archermos approaching along the trail to the south, sword drawn.
Prince Skylio: "Don't talk about Sandor like that"
chris107: "Feel free my pyromaniac friend."
Prince Skylio: ** Sandro

Sandor Sunneson: It's mammory man
Smon: The former gladiator, now Lady Thuvia's one man army, nods cordially to the trio.
chris107: Can we make makeshift 'lights' - fire pits and such around the building, say 100' away?
Smon: "Afternoon, friends. Can you point me to this Gulley?"
chris107: "or we could take this fellow to the Goblins?"
chris107: "Need a bit of help?"
Sandor Sunneson: If they're going to attack tonight, they maybe resting now?
Smon: Archermos readies his shield. "Aye, depends how many of them.... Yes, I want to get them now, in the daylight."
chris107: "Good thinking sandro, I think we may have woken them up a bit though."
Smon: "You're all battle-weary - let me take the lead. Kill any try to get past me."
chris107: "Shall we then gentlemen? And Zagaar?"
Prince Skylio: Z is nowhere to be seen
Prince Skylio: He walks back in with a mouthful of wool
chris107: "Quick! Check the sheep!"
Prince Skylio: "...Yes. Let's do that"
Smon: *baaaaa*
Sandor Sunneson: lets gp
Smon: Leaving the Zagaar-ravaged flock behind you head north, soon returning to the gulley.

Prince Skylio Rolls 1d20+1x2 and gets:
10 (+1) = 11
1 (+1) = 2
Sandor Sunneson: kill?
chris107: Yup
Smon: On the north side a wide set of dank stone steps leads down to a massive stone door, barred on your side and plastered with grafitti of skulls, scythes & such.
chris107: Sneak and kill as many as we can
chris107: Does Mordred's knowledge of the undead glean anything from these symbols?
Smon: You set to work... each of you dispatches a goblin. Archermos moves among them swiftly, killing 3 before they can wake.
chris107: (Through the Bright Sepaphim/Arcane skill?)
Smon: OOC you were ridiculously lucky on my rolls to have them wake up earlier.
Smon: sure, religion INT w prof
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 6, (+5) = 11

Smon: There is a small fire pit here, the goblins could have made them.
chris107: Okay, thanks.
chris107: We despatch the sleeping Goblins?
Smon: Archermos inspects the bar. It looks old and solid, but newer than the door itself.
Smon: 5 mins ago
chris107: Phew
chris107: "The bar looks like it's meant to keep something in...."
Smon: >>Smon: You set to work... each of you dispatches a goblin. Archermos moves among them swiftly, killing 3 before they can wake.<<
chris107: (Blame Kyle making the G&T's )
Prince Skylio: (i still know what's going on.. :D)
Smon: mm alcohol...
chris107: "Archemos, do you think we should investigate behind this evil looking door?"
Smon: Archermos nods grimly to Sandro. "Aye, and not Goblin work. Those are good solid lugs."
Smon: Archermos looks to Mordred. "Death symbols... barred door... I reckon it's not a faerie princess and a stack of booty."
chris107: He grins "Then let's go sort it out."
Smon: Archermos wipes his sword clean on goblin rags. "I've no desire to face ancient horrors... I came to kill the goblins. But you feel free."
Sandor Sunneson: have we recovered lost HP?
Smon: From when?
Prince Skylio: "Speaking of faerie princesses, Mordred.. Fancy giving that bar a shift?"
chris107: hehe
Sandor Sunneson: The fight earlier
Smon: I told you you rested 2 hours before Archermos arrived at the farm
Sandor Sunneson: ok
Smon: You can spend hit dice if you want
chris107: Mordred feels the urge to investigate this ancient evil (feeling bold with one action surge left)
Sandor Sunneson: will do, 1d8+2
chris107: (All healing dice spent here, just 2 second winds)
Prince Skylio: Z is also intrigued. His warhammer drawn with the stench of goblin blood still lingering upon it
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d8+2 and gets: 3, (+2) = 5
Sandor Sunneson: back to full
chris107: "Come my friends, let us do war upon the forces of evil!"
chris107: "Zagaar, would you put your mighty muscles to work on the bar?"
Prince Skylio: Z attempts to lift the bar
chris107: Mordred loads his crossbow.
Smon: Archermos watches as you lever the massive wooden bar off the lugs and Zagaar pulls the great stone door open.
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 1, (+4) = 5
Prince Skylio: (oops did i need to do that)
chris107: "Lady Amala protect us."
Smon: Beyond is darkness. A pit, cylindrical. You hear the sound of water sloshing a long way below.
chris107: He wedges the torch into the gap between the iopen door and the jamb.
Sandor Sunneson: Don't jump in with your PC Chris
Smon: The doorway opens onto a narrow landing near the top of the great pit, over 20' across. A narrow flight of crumbling stone steps winds down the side of the pit.
chris107: Not this time Fergus
chris107: Mordred steps down slowly and carfuly, crossbow at the ready
Smon: The sound from below - gurgling, sloshing - it sounds like tidal water, but you are miles from the sea.
Prince Skylio: Even Z seems skeptical. "...You want to go down there?"
Smon: Morded steps onto the narrow spiral staircase.
chris107: "Probably a bit dangerous for you Zagaar. I'll take care of it..."
Smon: He begins to edge down the steps.
Prince Skylio: "Pfft" Zagaar stubbornly pushes forwards in front of Mordred
Smon: Archermos: "If I hear you screaming, I'm closing the door again!"
Smon: GM Any light source?
chris107: Mordred grins and covers the foolish, impetues orc.
chris107: Want to follow us with a torch Sandro?
chris107: I wedged a torch in the door
Sandor Sunneson: will do
Smon: Zagaar heads down the stairs cautiously, Morded following, then Sandro with the lit torch.
chris107: He looks from side to side, crossbow ready.
Prince Skylio: Z hears the splashing of the water below. "Reminds me of when I lived by the docks..."
Sandor Sunneson: Does Sandro note anything? Considering his family are from fishmerchant stock?
Smon: The spiral stairs descend a long way, nearly 50' below you see dark water lapping at the bottom of the pit. Just above the water level are wide alcoves on the N & S sides of the pit, and 2 more just above them.
Smon: The alcoves are about 5' high by 8' across.
Smon: The water should not be sloshing like that.
chris107: Hmmm
Sandor Sunneson: we should come back in a few levels and sort this?
Smon: You are currently 30' above water level, the limit of torch light.
chris107: "What's a level?"
Smon: LOL
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
Prince Skylio: "I've grown up around the water. Something seems very out of place here"
Smon: Are you still descending?
Sandor Sunneson: when we are level 5 or something
Sandor Sunneson: character class
Sandor Sunneson: lol
chris107: Mordred is eager to push on.
Prince Skylio: Z recalls Mordred's comment & continues to descend
Prince Skylio: "nothing I can't handle anyway"
chris107: He feels the Lady of the Dawn at his side.
Smon: You continue down the steps and reach the first alcove.
Smon: About 12' above water level.
chris107: He follows the monstrous Orc, crossbow at the ready.
Smon: Looking in, it's about 12' deep and seems empty.
chris107: "You coming Sandro?"
chris107: "You can run a lot faster than us after all."
Sandor Sunneson: yes
Sandor Sunneson: holding torch
Smon: Then the water sloshes violently as a gigantic mass of putrescent mutant flesh begins to rise from the depths, water cascading from the countless appendages that sprout from it...
Prince Skylio: "Think about it Sandro" Z gestures to himself and his hammer. "Do you expect to see anything worse than this down here"
Smon:
Prince Skylio:
chris107:
Smon: Zargaar turns back from encouraging Sandro to contemplate the immense mass rising before him.
Smon: Fear save, WIS+Prof DC 15
Smon: all of you
Sandor Sunneson: whale?
chris107: Mordred fires his readied crossbow at the monstrosity (the squid thing not Zagaar)
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 20,
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20 and gets: 9,
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 7, (+2) = 9
chris107: "Arrgghhhh!"
Smon: It looks like an undifferentiated globular mass filling the pit, sprouting countless humanoid appendages.
Smon: Mordred reflexively fires (roll to hit M)
Smon: Then turns and flees.
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 1, (+5) = 6
Prince Skylio: Z glances at his now seemingly puny hammer & hurtles back up the stairs
chris107: Panic shot
Sandor Sunneson: lol
Smon: Morded manages to shoot over it & hit the far wall.
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro is away, scared or not
Smon: GM: You all turn and flee up the steps as the Thing cascades upwards towards you...
Smon: roll init
chris107 rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 4, (+3) = 7
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 4,
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20-1 and gets: 19, (-1) = 18
Smon: /roll d20-3
Smon rolls 1d20-3 and gets: 12, (-3) = 9
Prince Skylio: (ussain bolt style escape)
chris107: hehe
Smon: Zagaar pushes his friends along in front of him...
chris107: or off the steps behind him!
Smon: Sandro & Mordred make DC 7 Acrobatics checks or fall from the crumbling stairs.
Prince Skylio: good idea
Smon: DEX+Prof
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 7, (+5) = 12
Smon: Sandro d20+5
chris107: don't get a 1!
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 10,
chris107: phew
Smon: YAAY
Prince Skylio:
Sandor Sunneson: got a 1 and a 0
Smon: Angels of Avalon lend Mordred wings and Sandro races lightly up the stairs,
chris107: "Bolt the bloody door!"
Smon: Zagaar pushing them frantically onwards as the mass ascends behind you, clinging to the curved surface of the pit.
Smon: Finally after an agonisingly long few moments you reach the top and stumble through the archway.
Smon: Archermos slams the door shut and drops the bolt.
Smon: A moment later there is a thud as the great mass slams against the stone door.
chris107: "That was close." Grins a sweaty Mordred.
Smon: Archermos looks over at you. "I did say..."
Prince Skylio: Z pants uncontrollably. "...Well, I can honestly say i've never felt more attractive"
chris107:
Sandor Sunneson: lol
Smon: Archermos eyes the door. "Reckon it'll hold... Come on, let's get you home."
Sandor Sunneson: yeah, good idea
chris107: "Yes, let's get out of here."
chris107: "Thank you Lady Amala."
Prince Skylio: "I could've had it..."
Smon: GM: That evening you return tired to Bratanis, up another 235 xp and considerably richer.
Prince Skylio: Z glances at his companions uneasily
Prince Skylio: "Okay let's go"
chris107: Yay!
Smon: The shepherds confer with Archermos and decide it's safe to return home.
Prince Skylio:
Smon: Erhur: "Thank you again my friends. Without you those gobboes would've slit our throats fer sure!"
Smon: OOC stopping there
Sandor Sunneson: 333gp each?
Smon: yup
Sandor Sunneson: happy with that
