Smon: Ontussa: "You see, if you leave it too long, he will awake from his tomb and be much more powerful, I would think your best bet is to stab him while he's still in there... is that clear?"
chris107: "Crystal. Don't suppose you fancy pointing out just where this secret door is?"

Smon: Ontussa smiles: "I was just thinking I'd fancy some jewelry for my astral jaunts... say a thousand gold's worth?"
Smon: "In return for directions."

Smon: Ontussa shrugs. "I'm sure you can be to Thusia and back before he wakes. He's been waking for at least three years already!"
chris107: "I'm sure that the First King's jewelry would be of a much greater value than my wives. It's a bit of a gamble I suppose....." He leaves this hanging.

Smon: Looking closely at Argos II, he seems faintly translucent. Hakeem gets the feeling all the frescoes are illusory.

Smon: Ontussa coughs. "I said the secret door you seek is in the skull passage - not here."
chris107: "Thank you, you are most helpful."
chris107: Hakeem will continue his prodding and tapping in the skull passage.

Smon: Hakeem happens to touch the mouth of the right-hand skull, it slides back 1".

Smon: The door vibrates slightly as SB slams into it.
chris107: "Touch the other skulls, see if that makes it open wider?"
Smon: So there are 2 panels compising the door, 5' wide & 15' tall.
Smon: Each set w glowing green skull 5' off ground.

Smon: Rosa touches the west skull, it also slides back, but meanwhile the e skull has moved forward again.

Smon: Beyond is a dark and musty 10' wide stone tunnel.

Smon: A very faint orange light drifts up from below through the webs.

Smon: Rosa: "It will take an hour to get back to her Shieldbiter, I think a quick rest here..."
Smon: GM: You fall back into the corridor of glowing skulls.

chris107: Do the skull doors move if we try manipulating the skulls to open and close them a little?

Smon: Messing with the doors, you get them to slide shut again.
Smon: They can be opened from either side.
Smon: Ajax: "Freya is a bit exposed back there, and the lizardmen will find their dead eventually..."

chris107: "But if Princess Freya is at risk, then the longer we wait the more danger she is in."
Smon: SB reluctantly agrees to rest in the skull corridor.

Smon: Ontussa is still in her brightly lit room. She calls down the tunnel: "You're lucky nothing saw the light & came to check you out... Though I am a little taboo!"
Smon: It's about 5pm now you reckon.
chris107: "Your greatness would keep even Dragons at bay, mighty Ontussa, greatest of all th sphinx and first lady of knowledge."
Smon: H & co arrived at Thracia 1pm, fought shambler then rested, then through city, down tunnels to here, rested again.
Smon: Ontussa: "Indeed."
chris107: "Let's go and kill this First King thn Prince Shieldbiter?"
Smon: Ajax & Rosa open the secret door and you head back to the top of the web-choked stairs.

Smon: 30' down the steps you see a collossal spidery bulk.
chris107: Keeping a distance apart, for breath reasons..
chris107: Does it move?
Smon: The spider must be over 8' across in the torso alone.
Smon: It's unmoving and its legs are sprawled in death.

Smon: Getting closer you see it's little more than a long-dead husk. It burns as SB stabs it.
Smon: A foul stench arises.
chris107: "If this is the skin that it shed..."
Smon: At the bottom of the 40' stairs you see a 30x30 stone chamber.
chris107: Does it look like a shed skin?
Smon: Skeletons stand erect, lining the walls, their eye sockets glowing orange.
Smon: No it was a whole giant spider.
chris107: ah, thanks.
chris107: How many skeletons?
DESTROYERBILL: 10

Smon: Moving past it to the chamber entrance you see it is high ceilinged with a balcony along the west wall, a door below.
Smon: 20 skeletons.
chris107: "Ajax, now may be the time for that fireball you've wanted to cast?
chris107: (Would it fill the room but leave us in safety if we withdrew up the steps?
Smon: What looks like an oddly fleshy carving of a disembodied mouth is set in the door.
Smon: On the upper balcony you see 2 green stone gargoyles, unmoving.
DESTROYERBILL: its a trap
Smon: The gargoyles are at n and s ends of the balcony.
chris107: "It is, but one we must pass through if we are to slay the First King."
Smon: Yes fireball would fill room but not get you if cast from up the stairs.
DESTROYERBILL: okay
Smon: Ajax: "Come back up here and I'll fireball.
chris107: "Shall we have our wizard clear the skeletons at least Shieldbiter?"
DESTROYERBILL: okay
Smon: GM You retreat back up the stairs.
Smon: Ajax: "Kalatu Baradoo Fireballleo!"
Smon: A streak of flame shoots from his hands, down the steps past the spider corpse, erupting in a massive fireball.
Smon: Flames shoot partway back up the steps, consuming the spider husk. It burns brightly, emitting foul smoke.

Smon: The door smashes open and SB hurtles through onto the top of stairs overlooking a grand chamber.

Smon: A great hall of ancient statuary.
Smon: The stairs descend 10' to the floor., arched 25' ceiling
Smon: Ten glowing pillars illuminate the hall w eerie yellow green flickering light.

Smon: Alternating w the pillars are 10 great pedestals on which sit carved statues of fantastic beasts.
Smon: 6' tall pedestals, the nearest beasts are a sphinx with huge quartz sphere eyes and an 8 headed hydra of black marble w amber eyes
Smon: Further along you see a minotaur, dryad, griffon, manticore, harpy, hippogriff, satyr & centaur.

Smon: Each is carved off a different stone, with gem eyes.
Smon: minotaur is soapstone & jades, dryad is basalt w citrines, etc.
Smon: The walls are plastered and depict scenes of dancing satyrs & such.
chris107: Hakeem scans the fantastic chamber, looking for exits.
Smon: There are no obvious exits - Hakeem make INT save (INT+prof)

Smon: Suddenly the lights blink out, the room is dark but for your glowing swords.
chris107: "Or do you want to stick together?"

Smon: You have just reached the floor when the pillars burst back into brilliant light, brilliant strobing light sweeps over the chamber threatening to blind you.

Smon: As you head through the chamber to the west side you hear a ghostly rumbling again, and a sound like heavy footsteps in the distance.

Smon: SB reckons the sounds come when you move, as if triggered, and they have a slightly ghostly cadence.

Smon: After 30 seconds you have reached the west end. Hakeem inspects the plaster on the w wall - a thin layer of plaster crudely conceals a secret door. SB looks at he w end of north wall, it seems slightly translucent.
chris107: "Watch ot for the plater on this west wall too, just doesn't look right."
Smon: Then the lights go out again.

Smon: This time the light comes on again after 15 seconds, you cover your eyes until glare subsides.

Smon: You find a door through the illusory section of the n wall, it seems locked.
Smon: No handle, but moves slightly at your push.

Smon: You see an unlit tunnel running north.

Smon: The air is cool here, colder than in the statuary hall.

Smon: H enters the corridor, prodding the floor - nothing happens.
DESTROYERBILL: hmmm

Smon: Tunnel runs n 70' then turns e.
chris107: Stopping at the corner, listning then peeking around.
Smon: At the n end of the tunnel you see a long flight of stone steps going up east.
