23/6/48 to 12/8/4448 - The Awakening - End - Valley of the Barbarian Kings - End

Moffett deciphering some of the dwarven runes through the force field in the summoning hall, it appears to be dedicated to 'Ustroda-Eloth'. Prisha with her religious knowledge can ascertain that this corresponds to the name not of a dwarven god at all, but a Fire Primordial, a sort of deity level super-Elemental, known in the Karakhan pantheon as a force of destruction and creation. 

I'm going to rule that after a few hours you realise you're not getting through that force field, and even if you did the dwarven summoning hall requires numerous dwarven magic items to activate, none of which you have, some of which may not even exist.

Smon: It seems likely that the Kazadurgar got things pretty badly mixed up.

chris107: Aye, the statues were crushing them last time we saw.
Smon: From what Prisha can recall from Karakhan legend, Ustroda-Eloth if summoned but not properly bound will destroy everything in the vicinity. If bound, he can empower the crafting of mighty legendary weapons, such as Maugraign and the ancient dwarves were able to forge.
DESTROYERBILL: yeah its safe to say there never going to do the rituals now
chris107: "Then the best we can do is try to rescue the girl then get the heck out of here.2
chris107: "Maybe we can bring the rickety ceiling down and stop them getting back in here for a few centuries?"
DESTROYERBILL: we can or we can abandon her becouse chances are she is already dead
chris107: "That's why we brought Prisha.. oh? Where did she go?" 
chris107: "It would be wrong just to leave the poor girl without even trying."
chris107: "There is an exit back to the surface to the north east. That will take us close to the palace. In all this confusion we may be able to slip in and look at least?"
DESTROYERBILL: should we rik are lives to save a peasnt girl
chris107: "Yes. That's what heroes do. And peasent or queen matters not to me mighty lord. I'm a peasent too."
Smon: GM: Making your way back up to the temple entrance you can look down the steps & out west onto the great cavern. You can see the squished corpses of many Duergar warriors and priests, a good proportion of their army. From here you can see the two Colossi that were nearest the steps have returned to their locations in front of the temple. You can't see the other four that stood further round, or the two that were in the main cave.
DESTROYERBILL: yes but the queen favours you
DESTROYERBILL: you were made a knight you are now a some what noble
chris107: "What good is a queen's favour if you know in your heart you have done something wicked?"
chris107: @ GM - can we bring down the dodgy ceilings in the underground section to block off the passages?
DESTROYERBILL: its not wicked to leave someone who is already dead most likley
chris107: "I'm no more noble than a carrot. And if being noble means leaving some poor girl to die... Well I'd rather be a peasent."
DESTROYERBILL: ill do my commune with nature power and ask the dragon bear if the girl is dead or alive
chris107: "That's why the normal folks hate the nobles you see? They don't think their lives matter as much as their own precious skins."

DESTROYERBILL: we will save her if the dragon bear says she is alive if she is not we leave is that fair

Smon: GM: You should perhaps be able to collapse the unstable chamber directly below the main hall with the giant statue of Grun.
chris107: Moffet stands guard.
Smon: OOC Chris do you have your maps online? I can't find them.
chris107: Moffet thinks we should. It may stop them trying again at least for a while.
chris107: (I couldn't find them either but I have a fair iea of the layout in my head.
Smon: GM: Shieldbiter invokes the Dragonbear, who tells him the woman is far from here & not in immediate danger.
DESTROYERBILL: fine we will save her she is alive
chris107: "Thanks, Shieldbiter. Then let's get the heck out of here!"
Smon: The Dragonbear prophecies that other heroes will be the ones to rescue her, in a place called Tanna T'iev. 
DESTROYERBILL: but extremley far away and not in immediate danger

Smon: OOC if you read last week's Stonehell blog you'd know Bill. 
chris107: So bring down the ceiling then scarper.
DESTROYERBILL: the dragon bear says we wont have to save her spo lets leave
chris107: (I think the quickest way is to follow the right hand wall as we exit the temple until we reach the entrance we originally came in through?
Smon: How do you want to collapse the ceiling in the lower chamber? Will need some kind of vigorous disturbance.
DESTROYERBILL: i have a better idea you climb on my back and i fly us out of hear becouse those stone golems will try to attack us
chris107: "We can be stealthy unless we bump into any of the dwarves. And i they get in our way.." Maffet draws his finger across his throat and makes a horrid gurggling noise.

Smon: eg SB jumping up and down could likely collapse the ceiling but he'd need a DEX save to get out - might be worth raging too for half dmg.

DESTROYERBILL: i grab the biigest stone at the entrance we maid and ill throw it
chris107: Moffet hides in the shadowy portico awaiting the mighty Dragonborn.
Smon: OK SB carries a massive chunk of rubble from that remaining on the temple entry steps, carries it below and throws.
Smon: There is a satisfying crash as the ceiling collapses while SB & Moffet stand safely on the steps.
DESTROYERBILL: i rage
Smon: No check needed as SB minimum 24 on Athletics
DESTROYERBILL: okay i dont
Smon: OK SB reckons from his communing with the wise dragon bear that the collossi are still dangerous & flying out might be best. He can carry everyone and take a run down the top of the main stairs from where they're clear.
Smon: Moffet ok with that? Or prefer to stealth separately?

Smon: OK as SB runs down the steps and takes to wing with adventurers on his back, the 6 Collossi guarding the entrance turn in SB's direction...

Smon: SB can stay on wing long enough to reach steps on NE side of the main cavern that wind up to entries to Maugraign's Hall.
Smon: The 6 collossi are heading in your direction.
Smon: The ground shaking as they advance.

Smon: OK you can head up the narrow steps, too narrow for the Collossi, until ca 80' up.

Smon: The steps end at a ledge 100' above the cave, with a tunnel north at east end and a second at west end into the Hall.
chris107: (I didn't know of a perch in the main cavern, sorry.)
DESTROYERBILL: i jump off the edge wings out to fly back safley
chris107: Can we see the passage we originally entered through from here?
Smon: From here DB flies out across the great cave.
Smon: SB circles on the wing in the great cave.
Smon: There are 8 giant 30' tall collossi in the cave shaking their 30' axes impotently. 
chris107: Moffet enjoys the flight very much. He remembers asking Mrs. Queen for a ride on a flying rug many years ago 
Smon: There are 3 exits out you know of,, the quickest home is the first you found, in the NW part of the great cavern.
DESTROYERBILL: thank you for flying on dragon airlines
chris107: He blows rasberries at the collosi below, giggling with mirth at finally getting to fly.

Smon: SB spots it and flies to the NW exit with the Duergar-built rough wall, descending to land once safely over the wall in the tunnel heading north.

Smon: Malenn is very happy the duergar army is destroyed and any immediate threat to Ahyf ended.
Smon: Perhaps adventurers could explore Maugraign's Hall in future, if they can avoid activating the Collossi guardians.
chris107: Moffet exagerates the size of the Collosi outrageously
chris107: "There is a fortune to be had in scrap metal from the dwarven armour and weapons alone."
Smon: Father Camus the wise priest of Thoth thinks it sounds as if the Kazadurgar didn't have much idea what they were doing, but will see if he can round up some mid level expendable adventurers to explore the Hall in case any Dwarven summoning artifacts are lying around. 
DESTROYERBILL: they were 60 feet tall with axes the size of houses and we anihalited them (flasback to before) "ah there chasing us ahhhhh" yep got them real good

Smon: Malenn: "Any gifts that are in my power, I will grant thee. Moffet, would thou deign to become a Knight of Ahyf?" 
Smon: "Prisha, though may establish a Shrine to Meroya here."
Smon: "Shieldbiter, I know you like gold..." she smiles.
chris107: "Thank you your Queenship, but I'm not really cut out to be a Knight. I'm too small."

Smon: Malenn has a great banquet laid on for you that night.
chris107: "Well that would be just grand. Perhaps a small chamber of my own overlooking the sea?"
Smon: Malenn offers Shieldbiter 25,000 gp from the Ahyf treasury.
DESTROYERBILL: yes that would be great thank you queen malen
Smon: "I know you will use it in the cause of Law and Justice." She smiles wryly.

Smon: GM: Malenn grants Moffet a chamber of his choice in the Halls of Mitra, overlooking the sea.
Smon: Over the next few months she will also have a magic item commissioned for Moffet from Odo of Carchimish - any Rare item he'd like?
chris107: Moffet is happy and will work hard for only food and lodgings on behalf of the Golden Queen.
chris107: Could Moffet prevail on her to give that money to the poor instead? Not wishing to sound ungreatful..
Smon: SB can commission a Portable Hole - he wants Dyson to make it but as she's busy he settles for Odo, deduct 10,000gp.
Smon: he's busy
chris107: And maybe send 100GP north to his old Dad on the farm?

Smon: Malenn quietly arranges for far travelled Orson the Northron to get 1000gp north to Moffet's dad in Byrny (it costs over 100gp just to send the cash so might as well be generous she thinks)

Smon: GM: News from the north arrives over the next few months - of the disastrous defeat of the Overlord's fleet by the Skandiks under Alkazed, of the death of great Thuruar.
chris107: Moffet is very happyknowing he finnaly took care of his family after all these years.
chris107: Poor Thuruar. I think Kjato was a bit sad 
Smon: At first there is much trepidation in Ahyf, but then people begin to realise that the scale of the Skandik victory over the CSIO is so great, it has diverted Skandik attention to City State territory, away from far-off Ahyf & Nerath.

Smon: Great for Ahyf, not so great for Modron maybe. 
chris107: Modron have the protection of a great wizard and warrior!

Smon: M8 4448 BCCC - Generik the Flying Wizard & Sigurd the Skandik have reconsecrated the shrine of Mitra in the Valley of the Barbarian Kings.

Smon: While clearly much evil still lurks in the valley (& it may be worthy of more expeditions) the immediate task is accomplished, and Sigurd has received the blessing of Mitra & St Alkaia.

Smon: Deep drafted vessels might have survived, but the Skandik galleys, though robust, are easily capsized by the hurricane force winds that descend upon them.
Smon: When it is all over nearly 2 hours later, 80% of the Skandik galleys have been sunk, thousands of men drowned, the rest scattered on both banks of the Roglaras.

Smon: Generyk is appointed Court Wyzard to the King of Modron with a stipend of 500gp/month cash for research & crafting, laboratory, library and a tower in the palace.
Smon: Philly grins back to Sigurd very happy indeed. 
DESTROYERBILL: i will hapialy take that job
Smon: The Royal Engagement is announced with fanfare - it will likely be a month or two before the wedding can take place.
chris107: Sigurd wonders if she would like the head of fatty of Haghill as a wedding present?
Smon: What gear of Sigurd's is still non-magical?

chris107: He has Mitran Harness at the moment as he wasn't noble enough to be allowed plate

Smon: OK once Generyk has settled in to his tower the King will ask him to enchant Sig's armour, this will take a while to acquire the necessary reagants etc and work out how to focus the wizard tower's arcane energies.

Smon: (Normally you have to be level 9+ to enchant but with early access to wiz tower can do at level 5)

chris107: (The end of the Skandic threat to Ahyf is the best present I could have hoped for today  ) 
DESTROYERBILL: and sevral thousand less troups of skandicks is good
chris107: (The shade of Hakeem can rest in peace knowing Malenn and Hassan are safe)
Smon: GM: Well not all the Skandik ships were sunk... but the threat should certainly be a lot more manageable now. And it should be at least next year before Ahyf has to face them - time for Nerath/Hara to complete their war galley fleet with the blueprints taken from Oriax's Tower.
