6:04pm  2017-7-01 chris107 Has entered the room
6:04pm  2017-7-01 Prince Skylio Has entered the room
Smon: Hi chris & Kyle
Prince Skylio: Hello Simon, sorry I couldn't make it last weekend!
chris107: Evening Simon
Smon: That's ok Kyle, life happens.
6:05pm  2017-7-01 Sandor Sunneson Has entered the room
chris107: Evening Fergus
Sandor Sunneson: Evening all
Prince Skylio: Hey Fergus
Smon: Hi Fergus!
Smon: Last session for this group - http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2017/06/lvl-2-day-17-18-goblins-victorious.html
Smon: Are you playing tonight Fergus?
chris107: Chased off by the Goblins and lucky to survive.
Prince Skylio: I'm alive
Smon: Kindly GM talking you through how not to die
Sandor Sunneson: I'm playing for a bit, last day here so need to pop back for family stuff and vino
chris107: hmmmmm
chris107: lost the map.
Smon: end of last session: >>Smon: Towards the end of the week a covered carriage arrives in Bratanis and a stout, very richly garbed matron descends to the muddy street, aided by her maid and several heavily armoured guards. chris107: Cantrips, Blade Ward and Chill Touch Sandor Sunneson: are they listed in players handbook? Smon: (yes) "Good citizens! I am Kerowyn Hucrele, of the Ahyf Hucreles..." chris107: Spells Shield, Protection/Evil and... Mordred listens attentivley Smon: "A month ago, an adventuring party passed through here. They included my nephew Talgen and niece Sharwyn. They are now missing!" Smon: "As you may know, the Hucreles are a family of considerable means! We offer 125 gold for their return if deceased, or double that if they are returned alive and unharmed." chris107: "Do you know where they were heading m'lady?" Smon: In the assembled crowd, Shelos the shepherd nudges Sandro the monk. "Ere, that must be the adventurers I was telling you about! The ones as headed for the Sunless Citadel!" Smon: Kerowyn turns to Mordred. "They were part of a group seeking ruins in this vicinity." Smon: The loincloth clad slave maid wraps a hooded cloak around Kerowyn Hucrele to fend off the rain. Smon: The three guards peer from under their steel helms at the Ghinarian village. chris107: "We shall help you!" chris107: Hopes Mordred chris107: He looks at his chums for confirmation. Sandor Sunneson: We shall Sandor Sunneson: What time you playing till? Sandor Sunneson: tonight I mean? Smon: Kerowyn nods to Mordred: "Excellent!" Then you see Lady Thuvia emerge from her Hall."Mrs Hucrele! An honour! Please, be a guest in my Hall..."<<
Smon: GM: Sandro needs updating - is he following the Way of the Open Hand?
chris107: "So we need to find this Sunless Citadel and find Talgen and Sharwyn?"
Smon: Shelos: "Shouldn't be too hard to find, friends - the crevasse is in the hills just three miles south, over the river."
Sandor Sunneson: Think so, I did check it out back home, one stood out more than the others
chris107: (OOC and found the map  )
Smon: OK so Sandro gains the following: Deflect Missiles Starting at 3rd level, you can use your reaction to deflect or catch the missile when you are hit by a ranged weapon Attack. When you do so, the damage you take from the Attack is reduced by 1d 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your monk level. If you reduce the damage to 0, you can catch the missile if it is small enough for you to hold in one hand and you have at least one hand free. If you catch a missile in this way, you can spend 1 ki point to make a ranged Attack (range 20 feet/60 feet) with the weapon or piece of ammunition you just caught, as part of the same reaction. You make this Attack with proficiency, regardless of your weapon proficiencies, and the missile counts as a monk weapon for the Attack. Open Hand Technique Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can manipulate your enemy’s ki when you harness your own. Whenever you hit a creature with one of the attacks granted by your Flurry of Blows, you can impose one of the following effects on that target: It must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone. It must make a Strength saving throw. If it fails, you can push it up to 15 feet away from you. It can’t take reactions until the end of your next turn.
chris107: cool
Smon: local map - https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0EAbVjvmw_RuuRQVbGfScdl0M27KDmwiDsD16ZERrn2t0Xv3EAzbgudORglrruVt8deaKSVMO92inxqjUdsMRynHwFXyvuBwzUJnp5VdeCWiEcsKJc5zDmYVUmLFB8FdJhHOWQmV02pM/s640/Selatine+Area.jpg
Smon: Bratanis has a lot of caves, ruins and dungeons nearby, even by Altanis standards
chris107: South over the river then?
Sandor Sunneson: Oui
Smon: GM: So Kerowyn Hucrele offered 125gp for the bodies of her nephew & niece, or double if returned alive. Mordred offered to help.
Prince Skylio: "will we need a boat?"
Smon: It's a rainy evening as you retire to the Inn, ready to set off in the morning.
chris107: Mordred digs deep up his wizard's sleeve and plucks out Misha, the new smowey owl.
Smon: Mako, the halfling innkeep chuckles: "The bridge is stil good, friend. But watch out for them Goblins - and worse things down there, I've heard."
chris107: Feeding her tidbits from his plate.
Sandor Sunneson: Like what?
chris107: "A boat or a bridge my ugly friend."
Smon: Ellen the Serving Wench watches the snowy owl wide-eyed.
chris107: Misha stretches her wings, delighted at the attention.
Smon: Mako: "You've heard the legend of the magic apple tree that grows down there?"
Prince Skylio: Z glows red with embarassment
chris107: "I think we heard it mentioned. You may want to tell us again for old cloth ears there." he points at the Orc.
chris107: Mordred practices with his Light Cantrip, just causing his finger to glow slightly. Writing his name in the air like with a sparkler.
Smon: Mako: "Aye - one perfect apple ripens on the Gulthias tree at midyear solstice - to eat it brings vigour, health and life. The Goblins bring 'em here to trade - I even bought one off the little buggers, that's why I'm so fit, heh!"
chris107: "You do look well master Mako. I hope we can find this magical apple."
Smon: Mako shakes his head. "But they say 'tis an ancient ruin, from the time of Bael Turath, the Doomfire Empire - sinister buggers, that lot!"
chris107: Mordred tries to think back to his education. Was Bael Turath part of it?
Smon: "There are old tales of Dragon Cultists hangin' round there, and I remember 'bout thirteen years back, just after I first got here, there was this right sinister fellow lookin' for the Citadel - some kind of wizard I reckon. He had this huge frog sat on his shoulder..."
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 17, (+5) = 22
Sandor Sunneson: #settingthetone
chris107: (OOC I remember what happened 13 years ago...)
Sandor Sunneson: How much did they sell the apple for?
Smon: Bael Turath was the later capital of the Second Empire of the Orichalan Dragon Lords, from the late decadent epoch when it had become corrupted by the Demonbrood, devil-blooded scions who entreated with fiends.
chris107: "Sell it, my friend. It sounds like it is worth eating."
Sandor Sunneson: Just curious, think it should be eaten
Smon: It was destroyed two thousand years ago in a great war with the Dragonborn realm of Arkhosia to the south, and finished off by an Altanian uprising under a man known to history as the second Bondorr.
Smon: Mako: "Fifty gold they usually sell for."
chris107: "A dreadful ruffian, I have heard?"
Smon: "Who?"
chris107: "This Bondorr fellow."
Smon: OOC Mako didn't actually mention Bondorr, Mordred was just thinking aloud apparently
Smon: Mako gives you an odd look.
chris107: hehe
chris107: Blame Kyle's G&T's!
Smon: Ellen: "Bondorr is the fierce and savage god of the Altanians! Mighty warriors all! Their muscles are huge!"
Smon: Mako: "aye, that."
chris107: He is an Eldrithch Knight, they are fey.
Sandor Sunneson: And mammaries too!!
Smon: GM: Do you have any more queries, or go to next morning?
Sandor Sunneson: Go
Sandor Sunneson: Nm
chris107: go
Smon: Day 26, morning
Smon: /roll d8
Smon rolls 1d8 and gets: 3,
Smon: A light drizzle is falling as you eat your breakfast, pack your gear and ready to depart.
Smon: A small crowd of locals come to see you leave, along with stout Kerowyn Hucrele and Lady Thuvia Bratanis.
chris107: "Fly my beauty!" Mordred lets Misha loose to scout from above for us.
Smon: Kerowyn: "The Hucrele family will be most grateful if you return with word of our kin."
Prince Skylio: "wonder how long it'll last this time"
chris107: He bows suavely to Lady Thuvia.
chris107: and the lady Hucrele
Smon: Lady Thuvia nods to Mordred. "Good fortune go with you, good Sir Knight."
chris107: "Your blessings are most welcome in our endevours, my Lady." he bows a florid bow.
Smon: Hucrele nods too: "You should know, there were four in the expedition - the Mitraic paladin Sir Braford and the Ghinaran Ranger Karakas, as well as Sharwyn, a wizard, and Talgen, a warrior."
Prince Skylio: "cut the small talk and let's get murdering"
chris107: He scowls at the Orc, knowing he is going to say something vulgar
Smon: The stout Kerowyn glares at Zagaar.
6:44pm  2017-7-01 Sandor Sunneson Has exited the room
Smon: "..I was going to say, any news will be gratefully received."
6:45pm  2017-7-01 Sandor Sunneson Has entered the room
Smon: "Sharwyn and Talgen wore gold signet rings, like this one - not so fine, of course..."
Smon: she shows you her ring.
Prince Skylio: Z's eyes gleam
chris107: hehe
chris107: "We will do all that is within our power to find them, m'lady."
6:46pm  2017-7-01 Sandor Sunneson Has exited the room
6:46pm  2017-7-01 Sandor Sunneson Has entered the room
Smon: Shelos: "Good fortune in the Sunless Citadel, my friends. Perhaps you can find out how the Goblins steal every sapling planted with their apple tree's seeds!"
Smon: GM: The south gate is opened for you and the locals wave you farewell.
Smon: South of Bratanis a sturdy bridge leads over the Thrace river.
chris107: "Goodman Shelos, the lives of these dear folks are of paramount importance. But if Amala's wisdom enlightens us with this wisdom it can only be for good."
Prince Skylio: "Easier than a boat I suppose..."
chris107: "See my dense chum, we need no boat?"
Smon: GM: You take the road over the bridge and through meadows, then turn off and begin the climb up into the hills.
6:50pm  2017-7-01 Sandor Sunneson Has exited the room
chris107: "Come!" The eldritch knight marches off across the bridge. His flashy owl circling overhead.
Prince Skylio: Zagaar follows stubbornly
Smon: With Sandro scouting ahead you make good time, Sandro picks up the remains of an old roadway, Nerathi perhaps, and you follow it a mile or so.
6:50pm  2017-7-01 Sandor Sunneson Has entered the room
Smon: With Sandro scouting ahead you make good time, Sandro picks up the remains of an old roadway, Nerathi perhaps, and you follow it a mile or so.
chris107: "Keep your eyes peeled for clues, Sandro!"
Smon: Three miles south of Bratanis the old road passes east of a narrow ravine. You see several broken or straight pillars on either side of the ravine.
Smon: A sturdy knotted rope is tied to one of the pillars on your side, hanging down into the depths.
Sandor Sunneson: Will do
chris107: Can the owl fly down to look where the rope leads?
Smon: The ravine is only about 30' wide, and looks very deep.
Sandor Sunneson: Sandor will look into the depths, see anything?
Smon: Yup - Misha owl flies down.
Sandor Sunneson: Sandroveven
Smon: The rope looks to have been there a few weeks.
Smon: It looks like several small campfires have been laid in this area in recent months, someone covered them after use.
chris107: "No doubt where the poor unfortunates lowered themselves to their doom." says a cheerful Mordred
Sandor Sunneson: Any footprints??
Smon: There is grafitti on the pillars, crude runes.
chris107: "Orcish, no doubt."
Smon: No footprints have survived the recent rains.
Prince Skylio: Z scowls at Mordred "that owl seems to be taking a while?"
Smon: The pillars look very old and worn, only two are intact.
Smon: The owl flutters back up.
chris107: "I am sure the owl is fine..."
chris107: "Misha, my beauty. What did you see?"
6:58pm  2017-7-01 subaltari Has entered the room
Smon: Misha reports that the rope descends 50' to a sandy ledge, from where stairs descend further, towards the remains of a fortress on the ravine floor, mostly buried.
chris107: He looks smugly at the smelly Orc.
chris107: Hey Subs
Sandor Sunneson: Go down rope??
subaltari: hail
Prince Skylio: "I'll go first" declares Z
chris107: ""Scout away my scouty friend!"
Smon: As well as the rope there are also old weathered foot/hand holds carved in the rock.
chris107: "Just let me know if you need magical light to illuminate your path." He adds smugly
Sandor Sunneson: Go for it
Prince Skylio: "piss off"
chris107:
Smon: Using the sturdy rope, Zagaar easily clambers down to the sandy ledge below.
chris107: Mordred stuffs Misha back up his wizard's sleeve for safe keeping.
Smon: It overlooks the subterranean gulf of darkness, beyond the range of his darkvision.
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro follows
chris107: "Dark down there is it?"
Smon: Sand, rocky debris, bones of small animals litter the ledge.
Prince Skylio: "I can't see anything... Sandro, maybe scout a little?"
Smon: A rough hewn stairwell zig-zags down from the ledge into the darkness.
Sandor Sunneson: S will scout further
Smon: /roll d20+2
Smon rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 3, (+2) = 5
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 14,
chris107: OOC heading in which general direction please, Simon?
Sandor Sunneson: Scouting roll?
Smon: Down - stairs are descending SW to first switchback.
chris107: thanks
Smon: Sandro approaches a second smaller ledge, stairs running down SE from here - suddenly he spots red eyes gleam in the darkness - giant rats!
chris107: Mordred makes the tip of huis slender sword glow with a Light cantrip.
Smon: What is Sandro doing?
Prince Skylio: Z prepares his warhammer to pulverize some rat scum
chris107: Before taking up his shield and going to battle the fierce rodents.
Sandor Sunneson: Getting ready to battle
Prince Skylio: OOC how giant is a giant rat
Smon: Do you tell the others? They're 20' behind you right now.
Smon: About 3' long.
Sandor Sunneson: Yes
Prince Skylio: they're bigger in bradford
chris107: "Looks like your supper is coming to you today Zagaar!" Quips the slick Knight
Sandor Sunneson: Shout rodent vermin, bug rats
chris107: OOC
Smon: As Sandro calls out a warning the rats leap forward - I'm gonna use regular init
Smon: roll init
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20-1 and gets: 3, (-1) = 2
chris107 rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 17, (+3) = 20
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 6,
Smon: rats
Smon: /roll d20+2
Smon rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 18, (+2) = 20
chris107: (D) rat
Smon: Three rats leap at Sandro as Mordred races forward.
Smon: they have advtg - pack tactics
Smon: /roll d20+4x6
Smon Rolls 1d20+4x6 and gets:
17 (+4) = 21
6 (+4) = 10
19 (+4) = 23

19 (+4) = 23
14 (+4) = 18
Smon: 21, 23, 23 - 3 hits
Sandor Sunneson: Not looking good
chris107: ouch
Smon: /roll 3d4+6
Smon rolls 3d4+6 and gets: 2, 3, 2, (+6) = 13
Smon: OOC should have backed away slowly
Sandor Sunneson: How much damage?
Smon: Sandro at 11/24
Sandor Sunneson: Cheers
Smon: Mordred's go
chris107: Mordred's slim, glowing blade darts out.
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 15, (+5) = 20
chris107 rolls 1d8+5 and gets: 7, (+5) = 12
Smon: AC 12, 7 hp - Mordred slays a mighty Rat.
Smon: Sandro then Zagaar
chris107: He twangs the wretched beast off his sword
Sandor Sunneson Rolls 1d20x2 and gets:
2 = 2
12 = 12
Smon: AC 12
Smon: You have 9 ki now but it takes a week to recover them
Smon: 1 hit?
Sandor Sunneson: 1 hit
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d6+3 and gets: 6, (+3) = 9
Prince Skylio: Zagaar rushes forth compelled by the thought of succulent rat meat
Smon: Sandro decapitates a second rat!
Smon: Zagaar joins the fray on the ledge...
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 19, (+6) = 25
Smon:
Smon: The great maul descends, rat bits spray...
Prince Skylio rolls 5d6+4 and gets: 2, 2, 2, 1, 3, (+4) = 14
Smon: LOL forgot about your critting on 19
chris107: "Impressive."
Smon: I think it's 7d6 BTW
Prince Skylio: (chris just reminded me)
chris107: Heck!
Smon: Base 3d6, crit > 6d6, +1d6 half orc = 7d6?
subaltari: Holy flat rats batman!
Prince Skylio: wow
Prince Skylio: rat soup
Smon: That's one very dead rat.
chris107: "You appear to have tenderised your supper, Zagaar."
Prince Skylio: Zagaar ignores Mordred as he harvests rat meat for the road ahead
chris107:
Sandor Sunneson: My tablet is running low on battery, leaving after this skirmish
Prince Skylio:
chris107: Cheers, Fergus, enjoy your evening in Le Belle France
Smon: Sandro looks a little shaky, with three nasty rat bites.
Sandor Sunneson: On holiday Kyle, no power at WiFi unfort
Prince Skylio: Yeah incase your tablet dies hope you have a good time
Sandor Sunneson: Can he had heal?
Sandor Sunneson: Hd heal
chris107: "Probably best you scout ahead again Sandro, don't worry about those love bites."
Smon: On this second ledge you make out some small humanoid footprints heading down the stairs, and an old ring of stones containing much fire ash, it looks years old though.
Prince Skylio: "anyone want some rat meat"
Smon: You can short rest for an hour if you want.
Smon: Inside the ash pile are some flint spear tips and small animal bones.
chris107: OOC if Sandro is leaving us here I think we should press on. While the magical light lasts.
Sandor Sunneson: Ok, cheers guys, chat soon
Smon: Can't you recast at will though?
chris107: OOC Sandro could rest here and heal.
chris107: I can
chris107: Swish isn't it?
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d8 and gets: 7,
Sandor Sunneson: Ten back
chris107: Mordred pokes about in the fire pit with his illuminated blade. Looking for things of value.
chris107: "I'll pass on the rat meat thanks Zagaar."
Prince Skylio: Z is sat grinning as he chomps pn rat meat
Prince Skylio: "More for me then. If I could borrow Misha I could make an excellent stew?"
chris107: hahah
Smon: Sandro settles down on the ledge to patch up while Zagaar and Mordred continue the descent, down to a third ledge then a fourth, from which the final leg of stairs leads down to the eastern side of a grim fortress rising from the gloom.
chris107: Mordred glares at the uncouth Orc.
Sandor Sunneson: Looking forward to reading thread
Sandor Sunneson: Night
Prince Skylio: Night Fergus
chris107: G'night Fergus
7:22pm  2017-7-01 Sandor Sunneson Has exited the room
Smon: A fortress emerges from the darkness. The subterranean citadel, though impressive, seems long forgotten, if the lightless windows, cracked crenellations, and leaning towers are any indication. All is quiet, though a cold breeze blows up from below, bringing with it the scent of dust and a faint trace of rot.
chris107: The footprints continue.
Smon: The narrow stairs empty into a small courtyard, apparently the top of what was once a crenellated battlement. The buried citadel has sunk so far into the earth that the battlement is now level with the surrounding floor. That floor stretches away to the north and south, composed of a layer of treacherous, crumbled masonry, which reaches to an unknown depth . To the west looms the surviving structure of what must be the Sunless Citadel. A tower stands on the west side of the courtyard.
chris107: Mordred holds up his glowing sword to illuminate things properly
chris107: Once he can see, he will carfully step onto the rubble.
chris107: He heads west towards the tower.
Prince Skylio: Z will follow
Smon: Mordred make an INT + Prof check
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 15, (+5) = 20
Smon:
chris107:
Smon: Mordred steps forward carefully - the ground ahead doesn't feel right...
Smon: Could be a covered pit trap?
chris107: "Hmmm, perhaps we should be wary here." he prods at the ground with his sword.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
chris107: Trying to find the edges of the pit.
Prince Skylio: "I don't fancy risking my life again just yet..."
chris107: "I will protect you Zagaar, never fear."
Smon: Looking around, Mordred makes out the unmortared edges of a large concealed trapdoor covering much of the courtyard.
Smon: It looks like you can reach the door opposite by going around the edge.
chris107: Can he find the edges without going too near the
chris107: you answered my question
chris107: Circumspectly he navigates the hazard.
Prince Skylio: Z follows with minimal grace
Smon: Edging round to the S side you get round the pit trap, Zagaar following.
chris107: "Watch where you put your feet, Zagaar."
Prince Skylio: "you don't say..."
Smon: There's only a 2' wide catwalk on the west side, in front of the door.
chris107: "Stand back my clumsy chum, best leave this to me.,"
Prince Skylio: "You head on first. It seems more suited to one of a more feminine stature"
Smon: The door is slightly crooked in the archway, set in the east wall of a circular tower that rises high above.
Smon: Investigating the door, it doesn't seem trapped.
chris107: Mordred listens for noise within.
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 12, (+2) = 14
Smon: Silence.
chris107: Wary of the narrow workspace, he leans his back into the door and pushes.
Smon: The door opens.
chris107: He shines his bright sword within.
Smon: This circular area is cobbled with cracked granite, upon which sprawl the bodies of four goblins, apparently slain in combat. One corpse stands with its back against the western wall, the spear that killed it still skewering it and holding it upright. Three wooden doors (including your one) lead from this area. A hollow tower of loose masonry reaches thirty feet into the air, but the intervening floors and stairs are gone, except for a couple of crumbled ledges.
Smon: Daylight filters down from the ravine mouth high above.
chris107: (OOC must do the weapon bond thing sometime)
Prince Skylio: Zagaar searches the goblin bodies for loot
chris107: M enters
Smon: The other 2 doors lead off to SW and NW. Your door is in the E side of the circular tower.
Smon: You enter - the goblin look dead a good time, and have been rat-gnawed.
chris107: Got you, thanks Simon.
Smon: The bodies have clearly been looted, except of the small spear impaling one into the wall.
Smon: /roll d20+5
Smon rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 18, (+5) = 23
Prince Skylio: "Well Mordred, where to next?"
Smon: Zagaar recognises the spear design - Kobold workmanship!
chris107: Mordred's eldritch light fills the empty tower.
Smon: Mighty kobolds, greatest of warriors under 4' tall...
Prince Skylio: "I recognise that weapon. Made by goblins, only uglier and scalier..."
chris107: Mordred again looks as impressed at the brutish looking warriors perspicasity.
chris107: "Not as daft as you look."]
Prince Skylio: "I've eaten a few in my time"
chris107: M looks horrified
Smon: The spear is wedged in tight, probably too tight for a kobold to remove.
chris107: Thbe tiny footprints, are they still evident?
chris107: "Zagaar, why not investigate those two doors? I need to answer a call of nature."
Prince Skylio: Z grimaces and heads for the SW door to see what he can hear
Prince Skylio: OOC listen check?
Smon: GM You can't make out specific prints on the tower floor.
Smon: sure
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20 and gets: 18,
Smon: Zagaar makes out a faint sound, like a scurrying rat - a big rat.
Prince Skylio: "Mordred sheathe your blade. It sounds like more company through here"
chris107: Mordred approaches the door.
chris107: "Use your offensive bulk to open it, perhpas?"
Smon: The door seems unlocked, slightly swollen with damp.
Prince Skylio: Z drools at the thought of further rat meat
Prince Skylio: "sure"
chris107: Mordred illuminates the proceedings, sword and shield at the ready.
Smon: Zagaar shoulders the door open, Mordred's light shines in...
Smon: The masonry walls of this twenty-foot-wide hall are in poor repair. The far end has collapsed, filling the southern section with rubble. The western wall is in much better shape than the other walls, and it holds a stone door with a rearing dragon carved in relief on it. The door has a single keyhole, situated in the rearing dragon's open mouth.
Prince Skylio: "let's take this slow. Remember what happened last time we rushed things"
Smon: Your door is in the NE corner, one stone door opposite in W wall.
Smon: /roll d20+2
Smon rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 19, (+2) = 21
chris107: got you
Smon: There are some large rat droppings on the floor.
chris107: "Go on." Prompts Mordred
Smon: The dragon door looks very impressive, with a cruel cast to it - an historian would ID it as late Second Empire.
chris107: Mordred will follow his brutish friend in.
Prince Skylio: Zagaar picks up a dropping and savours it in his mouth. "Definitely tastes like rat Mordred. Want to be sure?" he spits it out and hands it over
Smon: LOL
chris107: "Ewwwwwww!"
chris107: "You monster!"
Prince Skylio:
Smon: The two of you enter the north end of the hall.
Smon: Looks like no one but rats has been here in a long time.
Smon: The south end of the hall is piled with rubble, the dragon door 25' s along the w wall.
chris107: Keeping a weather eye out, M approaches the impressive stone door.
Smon: The face of the rearing dragon seems to regard Mordred.

chris107: peering in
Prince Skylio: "you see anything?"
Smon: Through the keyhole it looks like there is a large chamber beyond the door.
chris107: "I'm looking! be patient you oaf!"
chris107: "There is a large chamber beyond."
Prince Skylio: Z scowls and proceeeds to munch upon rat meat

Prince Skylio: "I like your attitude today"
Smon: The dark stone of the door looks pretty hard.
Smon: You could search through the rubble?
chris107: "Cover me Zagaar."
Prince Skylio: Z stands on guard, warhammer ready
Smon: Zagaar can make a WIS+Prof check
chris107: M goes to search the rubble, his shield ready to fend off rats, or worse.
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20 and gets: 1,

chris107: Mordred continues his search.
Prince Skylio: OOC what is a bugbear? or is the clue in the name
Smon: Mordred searches through the rubble, getting dusty and dirty but not finding any keys.
Smon: Big hairy goblin.
Prince Skylio: OOC oh I thought it was an insect bear fair enough
chris107: "That door looks magical to me Zagaar. I suggest we look elsewhere for the key."
Smon: It would take days to totally sift the rubble pile, but you're pretty sure no keys were hidden just out of view.
Prince Skylio: "Wanna try the other door?"
Prince Skylio: "To the north west"
chris107: "Sure, do your stuff."

chris107: "Come away my foul friend, we shall look elsewhere for this key."
Prince Skylio: "Mordred come take a look at this freaky human plant"
chris107: MN enters the chamber and casts a magicaly trained eye on the thing.

chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 14, (+5) = 19
Prince Skylio: Z begins to feel slightly delirious from filthy rat meat
Prince Skylio: He attempts to counter balance this by eating more
Smon: Mordred recalls old tales of evil creatures called Twig Blights - A twig blight is a small, evil plant creature that looks like a woody shrub when rooted in soil. A twig blight has a thirst for blood, and when it moves about its leafless branches interlock to create a humanoid shape. A twig blight attacks with its claws that deliver a strength-draining poison.
chris107: (OOC, is that a hint that I should start cooking supper?)
Smon:
Prince Skylio: (OOC referring more to my gin/wine consumption)
chris107: "Put it down Zagaar and step away."
Prince Skylio: Z steps away hastily
Smon: This one appears to have been hacked and stabbed.
chris107: Mordred Fire Bolt's it, just to make sure.
Smon: Judging by the dried ooze sap from its "wounds", maybe a few weeks dead?
Smon: It catches fire and burns, a dark smoke rises.
subaltari: ( OOC let us know how that plan works for you Skylio!)
chris107: Mordred says a prayer to the Lady odf Wisdom.
Prince Skylio: (OOC which plan?)
chris107: "The door to the west maybe?"
Prince Skylio: "Let's go"
chris107: "Lead the way my simean friend."
chris107: simian
Prince Skylio: Z heads to the Western door
Prince Skylio: He attempts to open the door with the minimal silence he is capable of as a blundering Half-Orc
chris107: ( soz, need another pee
Smon: The door opens with a slight judder.
Smon: Crudely executed symbols and glyphs, scribed in bright green dye, decorate this large and irregularly shaped crumbling chamber. A large pit in the center shows evidence of a recent fire. A metallic cage in the middle of the southern wall contains a gaping hole and stands empty. A small wooden bench draped with green cloth is next to the cage, and several small objects rest on it. A bedroll lies near the wooden bench, and the sound of whimpering comes from inside it.
Prince Skylio: Z naively heads over to inspect the small objects without hesitance
Smon: Zagaar heads over to the bech
Smon: bench.
chris107: Mordred graons and follows his friend. Sword and shield ready
Smon: Resting on it are containers of green dye. a paintbrush made of goblin-hair bristles, and four tiny jade figurines of dragons (worth 15 gp each).
Smon: Another whimper comes from inside the bedroll - there appears to be a creature asleep(?) in there - it can't be larger than a child.
chris107: "Careful, Zagaar!"
Prince Skylio: Z hastily takes the firgurines "could fetch a decent price back in town"
Smon: The symbols on the walls look like Draconic script to Mordred, but crudely fashioned.
Prince Skylio: he whispers
chris107: (I am going to really regeret not choosing Comprehand languages)
Prince Skylio: OOC do we have some kind of carry weight?
Smon: Looking around the hall, you see numerous exits - an archway in the west wall, doors at n and s ends of w wall, at n end of e wall, and w end of s wall.
Smon: You came in through door in e wall.
Smon: Chamber is about 30' e-w and 50' n-s, with a 10x20 cutout from the nw corner.
chris107: The got it, thanks, Simon.
Smon: (yeah, comp lang great)
chris107: (I think I can swap as levels increase?)
Prince Skylio: Z gestures towards the whimpering sound "Think you should handle this one Mordred...."
chris107: "What is making that whimpering sound?"
Smon: (believe so)
chris107: "Another of thoise little magical tree-bastards, I bet."
chris107: M approaches the bundle.
chris107: Very stealthily.
chris107: He touches the blanket with the tip of his sword.
Prince Skylio: "can tree monsters even speak?" whispers Zagaar
subaltari: (hobbit in a cocoon? no, wrong game)
subaltari:
chris107: Slowly pulling it back to reveal whatever is concealed within.
Smon: M makes out tiny horns at the top of the blanket, then a sleepy kobold face comes into view. The little scaly creature blinks up at him.
Smon: "Eek!" it says fearfully.
Smon: "Not kill Meepo! Pls!"
chris107: "A Kobold child it would seem, Zagaar?"
Smon: The strange scaly little dogman looks badly scarred.
Smon: "I not child! I is grown!"
Smon: Meepo scrambles to his feet.
Prince Skylio: Z's heart swells for the first time in an age "It's quite.. erm.... cute actually"
Smon: "I wuz dragonkeeper! Seez ma scars!"
Smon: He proffers his badly scarred arms.
Prince Skylio: "Hello Meepo. What happened to you?"
chris107: "Meepo, can you read these writings?" M gestures to the writing on the wll.
chris107:
Smon: "Scars from Dragon - Calcryx!" Meepo beams with pride.
subaltari: ( mord gets straight to the point )
Smon: Then he cries. "Wretched goblins stole our dragon!"
Smon: Meepo glances at the writing. "I wrote summa dat! Sez Here There Be Dragons!"
chris107: "Did Calcryx live in the chamber beyond the dragon-door?"
Prince Skylio: Z edges a smile "We mean you no harm Meepo"
Smon: Meep shakes his head, pointing to the broken cage. "In there."
chris107: "Where did the Goblin's take Calcryx?"
Prince Skylio: "You must be hungry" Z offers some rat meat
Smon: Meepo takes the rat meat and chews. "Yumm - good"

chris107: "Watch out for bone fragments."
Smon: "Dunno where they take dragon...Meepo don't know, but Yusdrayl does. Meepo take you to meet Yusdrayl, our leader, if you make nice. You get safe passage, if you promise to make nice. Maybe if you promise to rescue dragon, Yusdrayl make nice to you, answer questions."
Smon: Meepo gives you a winning look.
chris107: "On second thoughts. Don't worry the bones were pulverised."
Smon: Meepo glances over at the bench. "Dirty goblins! They stole from altar!"
Smon: He sighs.
chris107: M looks at Z
Smon: "We hadz lovely statues there..."
Prince Skylio: "I'm willing to help. Mordred isn't friendly with the goblins either..."
Smon: "Little green dragons..."
chris107: "Owl murdering bastards."
Smon: Meepo nods. "Nasty goblins! You kill 'em, eh?"
Smon: He grins, showing rows of pointy teeth.
chris107: "Yes." he says firmly
Prince Skylio: "Yes"
Smon: "This way" - Meepo points to the western archway.
chris107: Renewing the magical light Mordred goes along.
Smon: It opens into a long tunnel going west. After 10' there is a side tunnel north, Meepo takes this beckoning you to follow.
Smon: After 20' this opens out at the east end of a long pillared hall...
chris107: M does so.
Prince Skylio: "You any good in a fight usually, Meepo?"
Prince Skylio: Z follows them
Smon: A short throne stands near the west wall, constructed of fallen bits of masonry stacked against an old altar. On the top of the altar sit a variety of small items. The portion of the altar that serves as the throne's back features a carving of a rearing dragon. A metallic key is held firmly in the dragon's open jaws.
Smon: Sitting on the throne is a large kobold.
Prince Skylio: "Greetings"
Smon: Two kobold guards stand to either side of the throne, holding spears.
Smon: Meepo: "Chief Yusdrayl! I bring orcs! They go get Dragon back!"
chris107: "King Kobold, I presume?"
chris107: Mordred looks crestfallen.
Smon: The kobold hisses at Mordred: "Queen Kobold, if you please!"
Smon: She turns to Meepo: "Silly Meepo! Not orcs! That one is Elf!"
chris107: "opps, soz."
Smon: Meepo: "oops, soz Elf!"
chris107: Mordred looks even more disappointed
Prince Skylio: "Pardon my friend. He is not the most accustomed to other species" Z glares at M
Smon: GM: You see numerous doors out from this long hall - one in e wall just behind you looks well used.
Smon: 2 in n wall, 2 in s wall, and a tunnel exit in s wall closer to the throne at the w end.
Smon: The kobold queen beckons you forward.
chris107: (OOC, my map paper ran out here  )
Prince Skylio: "So I hear you're having some trouble. Could you explain to me how goblins have managed to steal a dragon from your posession my Queen?"
Smon: The queen glowers. "Lazy dragon-keeper let them!" Meepo whimpers.
Smon: Meepo: "Wuz too many goblins! They bash Meepo!"
chris107: mordred looks sternly at Meepo
Prince Skylio: "Excuse my my queen, but I am sure Meepo put up a resilient fight. We will all help in any way we can"
Smon: She nods. "You are good humans - like the last ones. But they went fight goblins and not come back. You be careful!"
chris107: "Erm... the last ones?"
Prince Skylio: "We will need your help Meepo. We do not have experience with dragons"
Smon: Meepo: "Yes - big ones like you, four of them came!"
Smon: He looks to the Queen, who nods for him to continue.
chris107: "Other erm... Humans (he looks at his ugly orcish companion) have been here?"
Smon: Queen: "Meepo, you take these two to fight goblins, get dragon. Tell 'bout humans."
chris107: "That is a fine idea Queen Kobold."
Smon: Meepo: "Weeks ago, four came. They were looking for the fruit - we tell them about the Outcast, who lives below with the tree that grows the fruit he gives to the goblins."
chris107: "One lady, three men?"
Smon: The Queen picks up the tale as Meepo falters: "Three bull humans, one cow, yes, went to fight goblins for the fruit."
Smon: "The goblins serve the Outcast - he big like you - human-elf-orc thing."
chris107: "Then we shall go and smash this Outcast to a pulp for you!"]
Smon: Queen: "Goblins get them, or maybe the Twig-things, or the Outcast... You get 'em, we happy!"
Prince Skylio: "We're ready to go when you are Meepo. Stick behind us and you'll be safe, just point us in the right direction"
Smon: The queen grins. "Go show humans the way, Meepo! Bring back Calcryx and you be dragon-keeper again!"
Prince Skylio: OOC do the 'twig things' we've encountered have an official name (just out of interest)
Smon: (twig blight, Mordred reckons) GM: A happy Meepo beckons you to follow him back the way you came, to the room where you found him.
chris107: Mordred follows
Prince Skylio: as does Z
Smon: Meepo: "I lead you back way through to goblins... best chance surprise 'em!"
chris107: Mordred nods enthusiasticaly
Prince Skylio: "good idea"
Smon: He unlatches the door at the n end of the e wall in the dragon cell hall, beckoning you down the dusty tunnel beyond.
Smon: It runs east 20' then turns s, narrowing to a few feet wide so you must go single file.
Smon: After a short way s it turns e, widening again and runs about 30', ending at a door in the n wall.
Prince Skylio: "I'll head on in front"
Smon: You must be just north of the shattered tower where you entered the sunken citadel.
Smon: Meepo listens, then opens the n door.
chris107: Gosh, my map is accurate!
Smon: This empty chamber is home only to rat droppings, ] crumbled flagstone, and stains.
Smon: You both have great Passive Investigation, so you notice something...
Smon: ...tracks in the dust. Some tracks were made by rats and some by humanoids.
Smon: There's a door in the N wall.
Smon: You can investigate the tracks w Survival (WIS+Prof) check.
chris107: OOC, Kyle is taking over for 5 mins while I put the steaks on to cookj.
Smon: The room is about 20' n-s and 25' e-w.
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 1, (+2) = 3
Prince Skylio rolls 1d20 and gets: 16,
Smon: Zagaar, being smart fellow despite low WIS, ascertains thatthe rat tracks are very recent, maybe a day old, and that the humanoid tracks are almost a month old and \.Vere made by three or four human-sized humanoids moving across the area to the north.
Smon: Could have been the adventurers you're looking for?
Prince Skylio: Z heads to listen at the N door
chris107: "I could send my owl. However, it is useless and I hate it"
Prince Skylio: "I agree"
Smon: Meepo goes over to the N door, listens too (it's silent) then pushes it open, revealing a dusty chamber w archway opposite.
Smon: Dust and odd bits of stony debris and rubble lie scattered on the floor. An ornate fountain is built into the eastern wall. Though cracked and stained, the fountain's overarching carving of a diving dragon retains its beauty. A relief-carved stone door stands on the western wall.
Smon: Meepo lets Zagaar go first into the chamber.
Prince Skylio: "You seen any of this before Meepo?"
Smon: The footprints continue here, past dragon door & fountain through the northern arch.
Smon: Meepo nods. "Yes, this secret way to goblins! They not come this way. We send the humans this way though..." he looks sombre.
Smon: OOC might be best to stop if you're having dinner now?
Prince Skylio: "....Is there something you're not telling us Meepo?"
chris107: hehe, last time I leave the room to cook your supper!
Smon: (LOL) Meepo: "No! Just thinking about humans not comin' back... Very sad. Humans nice, lady-cow give Meepo biscuit!"
Smon: He sighs. "Goblins not nice. Goblins hurt Meepo, take dragon!"
Prince Skylio: (I'm happy to carry on Simon as long as you are? No bother either way :D)
Smon: I can go on another 20 mins ok
Prince Skylio:
Prince Skylio: "Good to hear Meepo"
Smon: A thin layer of scum coats the fountain's basin, but it is otherwise dry.
Prince Skylio: Z moves to inspect the fountain
Smon: There is a mostly worn-away inscription in Draconic on the basin's front.
Prince Skylio: "Meepo, any idea what that inscription says?"
Smon: "Meepo not read so good..." he inspects the fountain.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 5,

Smon: "Not know dis wun."
Prince Skylio: "Hmmmm. Mordred, perhaps try your light over here?"
Smon: Meepo: "Light... dat's it! Let dere be Light... no, Fire!"
chris107: Mordred holds his glowing blade over the inscription
chris107: Mordred then uses his firebolt
Smon: There's a gurgling sound as Meepo speaks, then red liquid starts to gush from the dragon fountain's mouth into the basin.
Smon: is mordred shooting his firebolt?
chris107: Yes
Smon: into the red liquid?
chris107: (No, Kyle typing currently it was just to activate the rune)
Smon: About half a pint of red liquid accumulates before the font runs dry.
chris107: back
Smon: Mordred can make Arcana check
Smon: INT+Prof
chris107: "Should we collect that liquid? could be important."
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 13, (+5) = 18
Prince Skylio: "good idea"
Smon: Mordred can sense fiery energies within the liquid.
chris107: Similar to the Fire Resistance potion we found?
chris107: Or the opposite?
Smon: You think it's more the opposite, yup - fire breath!
Smon: You can pour out your water flasks and collect the liquid in 2 doses.
Smon: Meepo has gone over to look at the west door.
chris107: we do so.
Smon: Carvings on the western door show skeletal dragons.
Smon: Meepo: "It says "Rebuke the dead, open the way." Brr, is cold!" He steps back, away from the door.
chris107: (Drat! too many games going on, I think Hakeem got a rebuke undead potion?)
chris107: M tries another fire bolt or two at the chilly door.
Smon: "Probably dragon stuff through there - dangerous! We go that way...." he points through north arch.
Smon: (yes Hakeem got rebuke undead potion from lizard shaman, or a Cleric can turn undead likewise)
Prince Skylio: "North is is then"

Smon: To the north This section of hallway contains six doors, all slightly ajar. l The area smells musky.
chris107: m checks through the arch
Smon: Meepo scratches his head. "This way, I think..." he points to the west door. Looking through the arch, Mordred sees the 6 cell-type doors all ajar. The hall is about 40' long and opens into a chamber at the far (north) end.
chris107: Zagaar is feating on rat, too bvusy to type
chris107: The cells are empty?
chris107: He investigates
chris107: sword and shield at the rready
Smon: GM: Mordred can see tracks on the floor - human-sized tracks a month old, and giant rat tracks, some recent.
chris107: he hurries
Smon: It looks as if four humans went north - then three came back south.
Smon: The first two cells are empty, but show signs of giant rat nesting.
Smon: In the third cell, a giant rat is nesting - it looks up as light falls on it, squeaking angrily.
chris107: he rushes on to investigate the others
