Review of session 157. 4th July 2017

Those playing.
Goonergeezer playing Maranwe the elf.
Smon intoducing Sergeant Saren, the Amazonian Warrior.
Efnisien with the High Priest, Hoskuld.
and very briefly Sandor Sunnerson and Tamar the wizard.

The action.

Our heroes came upon a wild Amazon warrior in a narrow pass through the Howling Hills. Ahead was a figure, illuminated only by lightning strikes atop a 10' high pillar of stone. Words were exchanged and the figure shot foul mouthed Maranwe full of arrows. A fight developed which saw the party surrounded by werewolves and Saren and Hoskuld in a viscious struggle with what turned out to be a Vampire!
The combined power of sword, spell and spear undid the evil creature however and it fled in bat form from the field.
Unwilling to loiter the group pressed on until well into the following morning with the Hills now behind them. They turned South at Sergeant Saren's urging and found shelter around midday at a small trading post, Raven's Bluff on the Eorlbane River. We leave them telling the story of their travels to Master Raven in their make-shift tavern, the Ship Inn.

XP Maranwe, Saren and Hoskuld 3,500 each. Tamar 900.

chris107: So to summarise. Crowfinger has fled south with the Ilheidrin Codex, a powerful Necromancer, he seems to belong to an organisation known as the Black Sun, their aims are unclear at the moment but you can be sure they will not be good. Kaystar Saru his lieutenant has gone to the City State of the Invincible Overlord, recent intelligence suggests that Crowfinger may have a base there and you now have an idea where. The agents of Set are active, in Bulwark at least and probably further afield they seem intent on fouling your plans. For now you have entered the Howling Hills, searching for a route through to the Twilight Road and the City itself. However as darkness falls and the storm abates, something dreadful is waiting for you!
chris107: Simon, do you want to make a grand entrance or to have met the guys travelling NE?
Smon: dark ominous music - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCEGhOMZOaE
Smon: Grand entrance, surely
chris107: (Chance would be a fine thing, Simon. The strains of Crash Bandicoot are all I can hear here!)
chris107: Okay, cool.
chris107: You come in and introduce yourself at any time
Smon: This is better - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmAigNs72Ro
chris107: We'll assume for now that Kolvar is scouting to the north, looking for a pass through the Howling Hills.
chris107: He can return when he arrives.
chris107: Maranwe and Hoskuld have been battling against the summer storm ever since leaving the walled town of Bulwark.
Smon: Sergeant Saren rides across the Howling Hills, her mighty thighs gripped tight to the barrel torso of her Tharbrian stallion. Her steely gaze scans the way ahead...
chris107: Now, as night falls they enter a narrow defile in the hills.
Goonergeezer: (oh dear!)
efnisien: "Hmm, I am sure I heard hoofbeats carried on this wind, but hard to tell in the rain..."
chris107: about 60' of flat ground between gently rising hills on each side.
chris107: The hills soon turn into quite high stony walls however though the 60' gap remains pretty constant.
chris107: The rain has finally stopped and only the distand rumble of thunder can be head, the odd flash of sheet lightning illuminates the night sky to the east.
chris107: Your horses are skittish
Smon: Ahead the PCs see a very tall, muscular amazon with short-cropped plantinum blonde hair astride a white stallion, a heavy greatsword at her side.
chris107: Hoskuld feels a great evil all around without even using hgis detect power.
Smon: Saren's steely grey-blue eyes scan the way ahead - who do I see?
chris107: The woman seems to be heading in the same direction as you, east through the hills.
chris107: Her horse stops and you catch her up.
Goonergeezer: Maranwe steps forward and in his best Leslie howard impression "Ding-Dong! well hello"
chris107: Suddenly the narrow defile ahead of you is illuminated by a flash of sheet lightning.
efnisien: Hoskuld keeps an eye out, looking around and up
Smon: Saren - 6'3" tall, broad-shouldered and muscular V-shaped physique, with steely grey gaze, short-cropped platinum blonde hair in a widow's peak, long strong legs, globular breasts barely restrained by the leather and steel of her steel plate amazon harness. Black leather thigh boots.
chris107: The sides here are near sheer.
chris107: A single flat topped finger of rock rises from the vally floor. A slender human form, cloaked against the wind stands atop it. It's about 60' ahead of you.
Smon: Saren raises an eyebrow as the elf(?) comes cantering up the defile. She swings her horse round.
Smon: "And who might you be... ?"
efnisien: Hoskuld carefully looks over the new arrival, seeming perhaps less struck than some re-blooded males might be
chris107: The scene, illuminated for a second vansihes with the lightning.
Goonergeezer: A Maranwe a smallish grey elf dressed in bits and pieces of mix and matched clothing, with a leer on his face at the sight of so much uncovered female flesh
efnisien: ...for example ^
chris107: Darkness once again falls.
chris107: hehe
Smon: Saren breaks off at the sight of the strange figure atop the stone spire.
efnisien: (whispers) "There is strong evil in the vicinity stranger, and I'm willing to bet it's not you but the mysterious rock climber yonder"
Smon: Saren: "I am Sergeant Saren, of the Amazon Guard, pledged to the service of the Invincible Overlord. Identify yourselves..."
Smon: (who/what is Hoskuld?)
Goonergeezer: Maranwe my dear, you look absolutly freezing, come here and i will share my body heat with you, and a good rubbing to get your circulation going, eh?
chris107: The siklence holds for a few seconds until, about 30' above you on both sides torch bearers seem to loom up. Dimly illuminating the dale. There are four on each side, on a level with the pillar.
Smon: Saren: "I am warm enough thank you... Maranwe..."
efnisien: "I am Hoskuld, proud servant of Osiris, and foe of dark things ancient and new"
chris107: The figure looks up, feminine features, lit by the flickering torchlight. She holds a large looking bow in one hand.
efnisien: "And you've already met Maranwé2
Smon: "Hoskuld welcome, servant of Osiris..." She looks up at the torches, frowning.
Goonergeezer: "you look accustomed to handling large weapons heh-heh-heh
chris107: http://scontent.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/s480x480/e35/c133.0.533.533/12677730_755442007926130_910715949_n.jpg?ig_cache_key=MTE4OTE5NzkyNDM1MDQyMjkyNQ==.2.c
Smon: "Much evil lurks in these hills..."
Smon: "Quite accustomed, thank you."
chris107: But in darkness atop a finger of stone
efnisien: [that one is pretty covered up, but it won't stop Maranwe I suspect]
chris107: The figure shouts, a powerful voice for such a slim figure.
Smon: Saren calls up: "You up there! Identify yourself, in the name of the Overlord!"
Goonergeezer: not even death will stop maranwe's letcherous behaviour
chris107: "So... He was right. The Priet of Mitra and a half wit elf. But the third?"
chris107: She hisses at Saren!
Smon: "I am Saren of the Blue Wizard's Amazon Guard, in service to the Overlord!"
Goonergeezer: It is true, when wits were being handed out by the gods i was already in the queue for other parts
efnisien: [maranwe mode] "catfight!" [/maranwe mode]
chris107: "Silence wench, your Overlord has no power here this is my valley!" The torch bearers mumble their agreement, like good toady's everywhere.
Goonergeezer: Ego for instance
Smon: Saren glowers at being called "wench" - some have died for less.
Goonergeezer: "Damn! if only we had a vat of custard"
chris107: "Why don't you turn back like good little boys and girls? It will go badly for you if you don't."
Smon: OOC I see Saren with an '80s Roxette haircut.
chris107: (Blast from the past there!  )
Goonergeezer: "Errrr, look i am really sorry about this, but who are you up there, what do you want and most importantly, Do you fancy a bit?
Smon: "This is the road to the City State! Allow us passage or it will go the worse for you!"
chris107: She raises her powerful looking bow, a black fletched arrow ready and aims it at you. "Now."
chris107: I'll roll your lucky numbers now. Simon this is the number you will keep for the evening for when random attacks are rolled for.
Smon: like this but shorter http://wanita.me/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/roxet.jpg
Goonergeezer: "Now look here! if anyones gonna be on the end or a large prick, its one of you two beautiful ladies"
chris107: 1 = Hoskuld
chris107: 2 = Maranwe
Smon: OOC I'm outside, my neighbour's drain passes through my backyard, pretty stinky
chris107: 3 = Saren
chris107: OOC ewww
chris107: OOC still outside space in London is always welcome.
chris107: Okay at this stage we'll have your proposed actions then if one of you could roll group initiative on a d6 please?
efnisien: I propose to call a flame strike on the woman with the bow, who is clearly a Black Sun type
efnisien: or whatever they're called
chris107: The woman lets fly an arrow, the torch bearers melt away, leaving the scene in darkness.
efnisien: 8 segments CT I think
Goonergeezer: One Crispy fried leather clad female coming up (fireball)
Smon: If Saren can she'll draw her bow and shoot back (F8 comp. Longbow ATT +0 dam 1d6+1 FR 2 arrows: 24)
chris107: 60' range so both well in.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
chris107: She can indeed, Simon. Could I ask you to use the /hrm dice commands?
chris107: Do you know how that works?
chris107 rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
Smon: >>OOC still outside space in London is always welcome.<< Great when no one is showering or washing up.
Smon: not heard of /hrm no
chris107: Okay. This is how it all starts, the torch bearrs retreat, darkness descends. There will be a -2 on missile weapons for those without infravision unless you have light of your own?
Goonergeezer: (someone at door, back asaap)
Goonergeezer rolls 9d6 and gets: 5, 4, 6, 1, 5, 2, 6, 5, 1, = 35
chris107: Okay, just roll normally for now Simon. I'll go through it after the fight.
Goonergeezer: in advance
chris107: Hang on Ken, you lost initiative.
chris107: ah, got you
chris107: The woman lets fly two arrows at..
chris107 rolls 1d3 and gets: 2
efnisien: da da da
chris107: Maranwe of course!
chris107 makes a Hit Roll:  5, [8](+5) = 18 (AC 2)
chris107 makes a Hit Roll:  2, [8](+5) = 15 (AC 5)
chris107: We best wait and see what his AC is when he gets back.
chris107: @ Simon /hrm just saves me looking up the charts to see if you hit :0
efnisien: I feel Maranwés amazing trump-like ego should give him effective AC2 at all times
chris107: Thick skin?
Smon: I think F7-8 is THAC0 14
chris107: yup
Goonergeezer: i believe i am ac10
Goonergeezer: ahh no ac3
chris107: so you would roll /hrm 6 without bonuses. If you had a +1 to hit through dex for example. It would be /hrm 6 1
chris107: AC3, okay, one of the arrows strikes true, your spell is spoiled and lost
chris107 rolls 1d6+4 and gets: 2, (+4) = 6
chris107: It grazes your head on it's way past for 6 HP, enough for you to loose concentration.
Smon: /roll d20-2x2
Smon Rolls 1d20-2x2 and gets:
11 (-2) = 9
8 (-2) = 6
chris107: Saren and Hoskuld to go.
Goonergeezer: yes i am somewhat lacking in anything magical and only have basic equipment
Smon: With the -2 I hit AC 5 & AC 8.
efnisien: I think her shots would be off before my spell
chris107: both arrows go wide in the darkness
chris107: Both shots were at the elf, his words obviously stung her.
Smon: Saren will sheath her bow and attempt to climb from her horse up the pillar.
efnisien: Ok flame strike time
chris107: As darkness descends with the retreating torches. Hoskuld summons a pillar of flame!
efnisien: 6d8 damage, or 3d8 if she saves
chris107: (You're at 60' at the moment, next round maybe)
chris107 rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 12, (+4) = 16
chris107: She saves.
chris107: roll damage please.

efnisien rolls 1d20 and gets: 1,
chris107: No fool this Hoskuld
chris107: He sees the fire pert as it hits her. Like she is protected by a spell or magical item..
chris107: part
Smon: "Very pert, those flames"
chris107: Okay. Round 2 please, now completely dark.
Smon: /roll d6
Goonergeezer: "Pert like your breasts my sweet"
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
chris107: The torches have vanished completely.
chris107 rolls 1d6 and gets: 6,
efnisien: The pillar is about 60' up you say
chris107: She lets loose two more arrows.
chris107: 60' distant, 10' up.
Smon: Saren just grunts as she attempts to climb the massive completely non-phallic pillar...
chris107: in the middle of the 60' wide passageway between the rocky sides of the hills.
chris107 rolls 1d3 and gets: 2
chris107: Maranwe's taunting once more draws the fire
chris107 makes a Hit Roll:  19, [8](+5/+4!) = 36 (AC -16)
chris107 makes a Hit Roll:  11, [8](+5) = 24 (AC -4)
Goonergeezer: "ahhh like the valley between a womans breasts"
chris107: This time both tranfix his puny form.
chris107 rolls 2d6+8 and gets: 5, 6, (+8) = 19
Goonergeezer: maranwe is trying to duck down behind his shield
chris107: another 19 HP
chris107: AC3 still Ken?
Goonergeezer: fuck all i can do
Smon: Saren: "Take cover beneath the pillar, elf!"
Goonergeezer: 2 now with a shield
chris107: Saren heaves herself from horse to pillar, not a massive hike from the back of her warhorse.
Goonergeezer: maranwe tries to get as much cover as possible
chris107: Roll v strength please, Simon.
Smon: d20?
efnisien: Hoskuld will cast Prayer this time, then try to close the distance as he has no more offensive ranged spells
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 16,
Smon: just made it (STR 16)
chris107: Maranwe heads for the sides of the narrow defile, finding some loose boulders to give him some cover (+3 AC)
chris107: Yes please. Thanks. She heaves herself atop the pillar, she can attack on initiative next round.
chris107: Hoskuld?
chris107: Ah, sorry, missed that.
Smon: Saren grunts stoically as she clambers up the pillar with iron grip.
chris107: Hoskuld prays to Osiris and his power infuses the area you are all in.
chris107: He can move in next round too.
Smon: OOC I like these 1 minute combat rounds
chris107: Okay as round 3 starts we have Maranwe hiding in cover, about 60' away from the pillar.
chris107: Hoskuld hurrying forward through the darkness.
chris107: And Saren ready to do battle with the woman.
Smon: As Saren clambers atop the pillar like a grim avenging angel, she draws her massive sword, it casts a ghostly blue light atop the scene.
chris107: First, Ken, can you give me an intelligence roll please/
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
chris107 rolls 1d6 and gets: 2,
Smon: "Take that, bandit bitch!"
Goonergeezer rolls 1d20 and gets: 17,
Smon: Saren lunges...
Goonergeezer: fail
Goonergeezer: lol
chris107: Thanks, Ken.
chris107: The scene is suddenly lit up by a ghostly blue light from the amazon's mighty war blade.
Smon: /roll d20+4x2
efnisien: whoah
Smon Rolls 1d20+4x2 and gets:
8 (+4) = 12
3 (+4) = 7
Smon: hits AC 2 & 7, not great
chris107: She strikes out but misses both times!
Smon: "Come here!"
chris107: Saren is horrified when the woman's hood falls back.
efnisien: Not a L'Oreal user, surely?!! [Hoskuld fabulous]
chris107: Herlips curl back revealing long pointed canine teeth. "I will have your blood for that!" She hisses casting the bow aside to attack next round.
chris107:
Goonergeezer: "So she is a bit of a dog!"
chris107: Hoskuld is 6" move so can be any point up to the bottom of the pillar.
chris107: R4
chris107: Actions then initiative please.
Goonergeezer: cowering
chris107: She is going to attempt to claw at Saren.
efnisien: It's always the right time for Ghostbusters quotes
chris107: Maranwe, behind you coming down the valley you see 4 huge black wolves, panting and salivating. Their eyes glow red.
Smon: Saren will attempt to kick the monster off the spire.
Goonergeezer: in which case maranwe will cast a fly spell
chris107: Okay, Init then please. Maranwe reckons the swift wolves will be on him this round..
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
efnisien: Can Hoskuld attempt to strike her with the spear of destiny or is she too high
chris107 rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
chris107: The Spear of destiny is only a short spear (4' length) he could maybe poke at her feet if she's near the edge?
Smon: attack roll, STR check, or weird 1e unarmed combat d% roll?
chris107: Maranwe flies up away from the snapping jaws of the wolves.
chris107: Saren kicks out at the Vampire.
chris107: Roll a to hit roll please, Simon. AC-1

efnisien rolls 1d6+10 and gets: 4, (+10) = 14
chris107: "THE SPEAR!" She croaks, obviously scared.
chris107: But she lashes out with one clawed hand at the mighty Amazonian warrior.
Smon: Saren: "Grrr."
chris107 makes a Hit Roll:  4, [8](+0) = 12 (AC 8)
chris107: Unnerved by the blow she misses.
chris107: R5
chris107: The wolves howl below the flying elf, they will miss this round.
Smon: Saren will press the attack (2 atts, using +4 for offence)
chris107: The Vampire will 1-3 continue v Saren. 4-6 leap down at Hoskie.
Goonergeezer: maranwe will cast a fumble on the Vampire
efnisien: Hoskuld continuing the attack if he can

efnisien: 2 levels!
chris107: -1 for prayer so 6 then.
chris107: Nope
chris107: 1,600XP
efnisien: Noted
chris107: 100XP/HD/level drain.
efnisien: A most agreeable houserule!
chris107: Vamps are 8HD and drain 2 levels
chris107: Been in since the start Mark. Only master vampires and greater Spectres do proper level drain in Redstar
chris107: Okay next is Maranwe's spell.
chris107: Her save attempt.
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets: 10,
efnisien: I can't remember the last time we encountered draining undead to be honest!
chris107: fails, she tumbles in a mixed up heap on the ground.
chris107: Saren could leap down safely and hack at her?
Smon: OK then.
chris107: Hoskuld now gets +4 to hit this round as she's prone.
Smon: "Weeeee!" thinks Saren, but stays grim & silent...
chris107:
Smon: /roll d20+4x2
Smon Rolls 1d20+4x2 and gets:

efnisien: good for you
chris107: Shaken by the energy drain Hoskuld's shot goes wide.
Smon: Saren plants the Defender in the vampire's back.
chris107: Saren cuts deeply into her unholy flesh!
chris107: "Hisssssss....Bitch!"
Smon: "Bitch yourself, bitch!"
efnisien: easy ladies, or Maranwe will be knocking one out
chris107: R6, Vampire attempts to turn bat.
Goonergeezer: Maranwe muses on a new spell to be created "Summon custard"
chris107: The wolves pounce, two each on Hoskie and Saren
chris107:
Goonergeezer: with the fumble spell and a failed save she loses this entire combat round
Smon: Saren will try to step on the bat...
Smon: (or grab it)
Goonergeezer: maranwe will mm the bat/woman
Goonergeezer: 1 on bat 2 on each of the wolves
chris107: Got you Ken, she is attempting it but won't succeed, your enchantment is too strong.
Smon: If I can grab her I'll try to impale her heart with a wooden arrow.
Smon: Hoping the wood will paralyse her.
chris107: She is still in human form for the round, sorry guys, missed that.
Smon: Which wasn't intended as a double entendre
Goonergeezer: Maranwe has some wood for her
chris107: Hoskie?
efnisien: oops sorry
Smon: As she's incapacitated can I attempt to impale her w arrow? If not will hit w sword.
chris107: Simon, to change weapon and attack will require simply dropping the sword?
efnisien: somebody just came downstairs for a post bedtime snack
chris107: Hilt of sword, would be an attack at -4
chris107: as would an arrow.
Smon: So even w her fumbling I'd need to roll a 19 to impale w arrow?
chris107: 15, you get +4 with her been prone.
chris107: But a sword hilt is blunt and not good for piercing.
Smon: OK then, will give it a go with arrow... "For Langwellan!"
chris107: and arrow would be better but is an improvised weapon.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 5,
Smon: LOL
chris107: and the heart is a small target.
chris107: Hard lines.
chris107: Magic Missile from Maranwe strikes home.

Goonergeezer: batbitch....
chris107: His magical flying breasts fly true.

efnisien: hits one of them
efnisien: Are the wolves size M or L?

chris107: wisdom roll?
chris107: for Hoskie
efnisien rolls 1d20 and gets: 3,
efnisien: damage:
efnisien rolls 1d6+10 and gets: 6, (+10) = 16
chris107: Again, keen eyed Hoskuld notices their fur only parts for the powerful magic of the spear and enchanted nature of Maranwe's bolts.
chris107: He spears one to death!
Smon: (next round Saren will keep trying to stick an arrow through the vampire's heart w 2 attacks, switching back to defence if attacked (AC -2).
chris107: Missiles and spear point prooving too much. As it yelps and rolls it's death throws it turns back into human form.
chris107: (You need to be weilding the Defender to claim the bonus, Simon?)
Smon: Saren: "Werewolves? What is this?!"
chris107: The remaining three wolves try and savage you. One left on Hoskie.
chris107 makes a Hit Roll:  9, [5](+0) = 14 (AC 6)
chris107: misses
chris107: two on Saren.
chris107 makes a Hit Roll:  1, = Miss!
chris107 makes a Hit Roll:  13, [5](+0) = 18 (AC 2)
Smon: (I was thinking 1-handed arrow stab, put 2 hands on sword if attacked. If not I guess I just try to grapple & stab her)
chris107: Both miss.
chris107: Okay. onto the next round.
chris107: The wolves continue to attack.
Goonergeezer: another mm
Smon: I'm base AC 2 so if no defender bonus would hit me?
chris107: Saren tries to impale the black heart of the vampire
chris107: It would, thanks for your honesty. I thought you were base 0
7:50pm  2017-7-04 saunatonttu Has entered the room
chris107 rolls 2d4 and gets: 3, 4, = 7

chris107: (Thanks Sauns. I have no idea what Pres is thinking. But I'm very cross.)
chris107 rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
chris107: Saren tries to pin the slithery vampire, but finds herself just holding a rapidly ascending column of bats.
chris107: (Thanks sauna  )
7:52pm  2017-7-04 saunatonttu Has exited the room
chris107: The wolves seem to loose heart and turn tail. You get free attacks.
Smon: Saren: "*sigh*" She'll switch to sword and hit any nearby hostiles.
Smon: /roll d20+4x2
Smon Rolls 1d20+4x2 and gets:
16 (+4) = 20
10 (+4) = 14
chris107: +2 to hit in the rear.
efnisien makes a Hit Roll:  1, = Miss!
efnisien: lol
Smon: would hit AC -2 and -8.
Goonergeezer: Maranwe will stay in the air until he is sure there are no more wolves or they are all far away
chris107: Saren's mighty blade cuts deep
chris107: Hoskuld is still woozy from the level drain..
Goonergeezer: 2 mins need a top-up
Smon: /roll d10+5x2
Smon Rolls 1d10+5x2 and gets:
2 (+5) = 7
8 (+5) = 13
Smon: 7 & 13, 20 dmg total
chris107: Maranwe hovers as a bunch of drunkenly flapping bats sweep past.
chris107: Another werewolf is slain!
Smon: Bill is calling your game "Castle Redstew"!
chris107: You stand over two dead, rough looking hairy fellows.
Smon: Saren angrily kicks the human form.
chris107: The night closes in, just the safe haven of Saren's blue light keeping it at bay
Smon: Very frustrated.
chris107: Bill!
chris107: Silence falls.
Smon: Bill explains They make great red stew, best in all the land.
Smon: Should be a chain restaurant.
chris107: As your DM refreshes his glass. 2 mins guys
chris107: great idea
efnisien: BRB, give me 5-10 mins to pick up the girls from Guides.
Smon: Saren: "We need to get to shelter - vampires can't enter a dwelling uninvited..."
Smon: "Also, stakes. Need stakes."
chris107: no probs, Mark
Goonergeezer: "the best i can offer is arrow shafts
chris107: As you regain your composure after the battle, you notice that the Vampire has dropped her great black bow on the ground near the pillar..
Smon: Saren rounds up her horse and then spots the bow...
Smon: "Elf, you good with a bow?"
Goonergeezer: hmmm i feel that hoskuld should see if he can detect any evil eminating from it
chris107: It is a huge composite affair, one would need great strength to draw it.
Goonergeezer: I can use a bow, but am i any good, alas no"
chris107: Hoskuld detect no evil from the bow.
Goonergeezer: (what time is it?)
Smon: Saren picks it up, her muscles strain as she tests its draw.
chris107: (It requires 18/76 strength to use and is enchanted)
Smon: "*grunt* Too strong for me. No mortal woman could wield this."
Goonergeezer: (what is Sarens strength?
Smon: OOC yeah technically women can have 18/91 AIR
Smon: STR 16
chris107: Imogen, the vampire, for such was her name will be very cross at loosing it..
Goonergeezer: "I have strength spells i can cast on you, maybe then you can use it..."
Smon: She's big & strong but no World's Strongest Man competitor.
Smon: (OOC in BX she'd get +2/+2 and be pretty good)
chris107: Racial max applies with Strength spell, Ken
Goonergeezer: maranwe casts a strength spell on saren....
Goonergeezer rolls 1d8 and gets: 6,
Smon: That could get her up to 18/91
chris107: 18/50 max for women
Goonergeezer: Saren is human?
Smon: yup
chris107: Dare I say it?!
Goonergeezer: ahhhhh bugger
Smon: oh no!
Goonergeezer: elf is 18/ 75%
Goonergeezer: we are all buggered
chris107: heck, you can't win them all.
Smon: Maybe Amazons have a higher max STR?
Goonergeezer: I would be happy with nil - nil draw
chris107: Saren's sword, Maranwe's magic and Hoskuld's spear proved too much for her.
chris107: You make a fair point actually, Simon.
Smon: (Damn Gygaxian Naturalism!)
Smon: We're more like male half-orcs really...
chris107: What Strength bonus do you give Amazons in your Wilderland's setting?
Smon: I know in 3e Wilderlands Amazons count as a separate race.
chris107: I'll allow one extra bracket maximum per + you give them.
Smon: In 3e they get WIS & CHA bonuses.
chris107: so a +1 will be 51-75
chris107: The standard bonus that Amazon chracters get in your Wilderlands' 5e
Smon: I do actually give a STR bonus - Altanian: +2 STR +1 DEX +2 CON +0 INT +1 WIS +0 CHA. At level 5+ Altanian Berserker Barbarians can recover 1 level of Berserk-induced Exhaustion 3 times/day with a short rest. Amazon: +1 STR +1 DEX +0 CON +0 INT +2 WIS +2 CHA
Smon: Normal humans get +1 everything
chris107: =2 would be +1, thanks. So Amazons can reach 51-75
efnisien: back
chris107: stronger than human women.
chris107: WB Mark
Smon: Bill is insisting the Dark Side is strongest.
chris107: The Vamp left her bow behind..
chris107: He's probably right
chris107: You feel quite vulnerable, just the ghostly blue light keeping the dark night at bay.
Smon: Well I guess the STR spell raised Saren's to 18/75 (+2/+3?)
chris107: yup
efnisien: just reading through, all caught up
efnisien: is the bow in general evil, apart from being enchanted?
chris107: What do you plan to do?
chris107: The bow does not detect any evil.
Smon: Saren spurs her horse down the gorge. "This way - there are hamlets in the hills, we must find one..." (she takes the bow)
efnisien: Shelter is good, if Saren knows the country follow
Smon: (unless anyone wants it)
efnisien: Hoskuld with holy symbol to hand
efnisien: the spear will shed light too
Goonergeezer: no use for it
efnisien: (bow is no good to Hoskie)
chris107: You push deeper into the Howling Hills.
chris107: You have been travelling since mid morning and it's now pushing 11PM
chris107: Your magical weapons cast spooky shadows as you press deeper into the narrow gorge.
chris107: But eventually the valley widens
chris107: Back into the gentle rolling hills.
efnisien: Need a defensible cave at least, if we can't find a settlement
chris107: (Hex2018/2119)
Goonergeezer: Hoskuld, heal me please i am sorely wounded
efnisien: Ah yes, of course
efnisien: I'll do a lay on of hands first
Goonergeezer: 17/42
efnisien: 10HP to Maranwé
chris107: Middnight passes and the moon is high in the sky, not quite full.
efnisien: and a CSW
efnisien rolls 4d8 and gets: 1, 3, 8, 8, = 20
chris107: Do you push on until daybreak?
efnisien: 17 more HP to Maranwé
8:19pm  2017-7-04 sandor sunneson Has entered the room
chris107: Hey Fergus
Goonergeezer: heya
Smon: Hi Fergus )
sandor sunneson: Hi Chris, sorry I'm late, just back from work
Smon:
chris107: No probs
chris107: Simon has been abely helping out.
sandor sunneson: Hi all, miserable and wet at Loch Ness, off tomorrow though
Smon: Saren: "If there's healing go, a were bit my leg - just a scratch but..."
efnisien: Hi Fergus
Smon: (I'm down 7 from 1 bite)
efnisien: I have 2 CLWs at least for our new companion
efnisien rolls 2d8 and gets: 6, 3, = 9
sandor sunneson: Tamar has been quiet for weeks,
efnisien: 6 HP to you
Smon: If we see no settlements or caves we'll push on, leading the horses when they tire.
Smon: cheers
Smon: down 1
chris107: okay
efnisien: (Hoskuld has an amulet that lets him take the higher of two healing rolls)
chris107 rolls 1d6 and gets: 2,
sandor sunneson: Is Saren a MU Simon?\
Smon: Amazon Fighter
chris107: Dawn lights the sky behind you as you drop down into the low foot hills.
sandor sunneson: nice,
Smon: Thanks to Gygax I can't use the magic bow w my weak girl muscles despite being 6'3" amazon
chris107: Infront of you even
chris107: Sorry!
Smon: LOL
Smon: "Sorcery!"
sandor sunneson: GM always right
efnisien: Need OD&D rules for that then
chris107: (One too many glasses of fizz)
Goonergeezer: That rem, inds me of the three breasted Amazonian giantess's that i single handedly defeated on level 4 or redstar"
Smon: Saren: "If you are going to the City State, I will tell Lord Langwellan of your aid."
Smon: "He is a wise and generous man."
Smon: "We should tell him of this vampire threat..."
efnisien: "That would be appreciated, since we are hunting men who are the very epitome of blackness"
Goonergeezer: "of course no-one else remembers because of the sleeping enchantment that overtook the whole party.... except me of course
chris107: And by the time the sun is full risen, you are in the lowlands (hex 2219) you can see a river in the distance and to the south
Smon: "What men are those?"
chris107: But you are bone weary having been traveling for about 22 hours.
Smon: Saren considers that plenty of Evil men are well represented in the Clanute...
sandor sunneson: Tamar still MU5 Chris FYI
efnisien: "Have you heard tales of a dark necromancer on your travels?"
chris107: Thanks , Fergus
Smon: map http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2011/12/csio-area-map.html
efnisien: "Or a pitiless mercenary who we think came this way only days ago"
Goonergeezer: and then there were the beasts with huge boils that spewed forth demons, you know its really been all go these last few years
chris107:
chris107: Maranwe is a tryer.
Smon: "There are many Necromancers among the followers of Set and Hamarkhis..."
efnisien: ta for the map
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 12,
efnisien: "Such are they. This one is known as Borrit the Crowfinger."
chris107: We'll assume Tamar and Kolvar have found a way through further to the North and by some madness your paths cross here.
efnisien: "and the mercenary is one Kaystar Saru"
Smon: "The names sound familiar..."
chris107: (Yeah, sorry about the maps vanishing from the thread. Photobucket nicked them all and are holding them to ransom!)
efnisien: Is it worth turning SW to Gaehill, or shall we press on? The characters must be bone tired
chris107: Simon, you can choose as little or as much knowledge of that pair as you wish.
Smon: ooc thx
efnisien: "The Crowfinger, we have heard, has dark plans and Saru is his agent in the City-State"
Goonergeezer: "buggers stole my magic"
chris107: It will all add to the flavour!
efnisien: [Hoskuld is still not going to spill all the beans at this point, including about the codex]
Smon: "Crowfinger is a noble of the southlands, I think, but he has been active in the north the past few years - he has friends in the Clanute of the Overlord."
Smon: "Kaystar Saru, the Black Knight they call him.... He is a powerful warrior, some say a cousin of the Overlord - there are many dozens such, for our Overlords breed extensively..."
efnisien: "Is that so? Are you sure Maranwe is not therefore related to the Overlords?"
Smon: "My master Langwellan will know more. But I warn you - these are powerful men, with powerful friends."
chris107:
Smon: Saren regards Maranwe's pointed ears. "Hmm."
efnisien: "In any case, our first port of call is to locate Saru, and see if we can find further about their plans. I state this as servant of Osiris and enemy of Set and all his minions (and minonions)
Goonergeezer: oh well we tried, lets go home
efnisien: "Osiris fears not powerful men, with their fleeting existences."
Smon: Saren scratches her blonde hair. "I heard a rumour when I was in the West, of a book - the Ilhiedrin Codex. That Saru was seeking it."
efnisien: "'But your point is well made, we will be cautious"
Goonergeezer: "I bloody do though"
chris107: (You were told that agents of the Bright Seraphin may be able to help you. You were told to visit the Mermaid Tavern on Fog Street if you wanted more information.)
efnisien: "It may have been found, it seems."
efnisien: (spooky Chris, I literally just opened the word document with those notes in it)
chris107:
Smon: Saren: "Let's press on to the Twilight Road, then follow it to Hagill. Lord Huberic there is loyal to the Overlord, but a little eccentric... an Inn might be safest."
efnisien: "How safe the inn is depends on the barmaids and Maranwé2
efnisien: go for it then
Smon: Saren looks over at the elf. "Huberic's whip is 20 feet long, he likes to practice with it... sometimes on guests."
Goonergeezer: Hey! the last barmaid was well up for it with me"
Smon: Saren snorts sceptically.
Goonergeezer: "I am like mould, i grow on oyu"
chris107: It's 30 miles to Hagill and you have been on your feet for 22 hours including a gruelling fight.
efnisien: Maybe not then. Anywhere closer? Within an hour?
chris107: Saren knows of a small merchent enclave on the river, just a few miles to the south.
efnisien: Seems a good bet then
chris107: Run by a fellow by the name of Raven.
efnisien: That's so Raven
chris107: Ravensbluff a small fortified trading post.
chris107: (2219 on the river)
efnisien: (a reference meaningless to anyone other than those with youngish daughters)
efnisien: River Eorlbane
chris107: (Soz Mark, can't help you there  )
efnisien: Love how about 30% of wilderlands names are just cut-and-shuts out of Lord of the Rings
efnisien: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/That's_So_Raven
chris107: The very one
efnisien: Raven's Bluff then
efnisien: If it had been Raven's Buff, Hoskuld might have got excited
chris107: Summoning the last of your energy you strike off to the South.
chris107 rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
Smon: Saren sees the horses won't make the next 30 miles even if the riders might. She leads them towards Ravensbluff.
Smon: (need to get Bill to bed, irregular posting next while)
chris107: (Drat! I don't have Simon's knack of rolling the 6 just when it's needed!)
chris107 rolls 1d8 and gets: 2,
chris107: The morning has taken a chill and you stumble up to the stout wooden walls of the trading enclave through a slight drizzle and just after noon.
chris107: An alert sentry calls down to you. "Who goes there?"
efnisien: (I'm gutted for you here Chris)
chris107: (Why's that , Mark>)
Goonergeezer: "Ooooo Hello, It's Only me"
Goonergeezer: "and them of course"
chris107: The doughty looking fellow on the walls looks a bit confused.
chris107: "Erm, friend or foe?" He ventures.
Goonergeezer: "Oh very friendly thank you, what about you?"
efnisien:
chris107: You see him turn and shout down to a assumed superior below.
chris107: "Sir! Sir! We have a right nutter here. What should I do? Shoot him full of arrows or what?"
Goonergeezer: "Hoskuld get out the Watchtower magazines"
efnisien: I like the idea of Osiris Witnesses
efnisien: "Wait one moment please! I'm afraid my friend here had a bit of a bump on the head"
chris107: A number of interested and armed fellows in rough leather tunics handling stout bows appear along the ramparts.
efnisien: "We are travelling east towards the City State, and this lady here is a pretty important person in the guard there."
chris107: Eventually they are joind by a thick set man in his early 50's
efnisien: "We ran into a couple of bad doggies up there in the Howling Hills and were looking to stop before moving on"
Goonergeezer: Maranwe waves at them "Co-eeeee"
efnisien: "See, bump on the head fending off those nasty wolves."
chris107: The older fellow looks down and recognises Sergeant Saren.
chris107: He beckons you in. The gates are opened and you trudge through.
sandor sunneson: Thank you
sandor sunneson: A fine place this appears to be
chris107: He greats the well known Amazon and the rest of you, giving the lunatic elf a wide berth.
chris107: "We don't have a proper inn, but there's the barraks rest hall. We call it the Ship Inn. Fancy a pint? I'd be pleased to hear your stories."
chris107: "Does he need somewhere to lay down?" he points at Maranwe.
efnisien: "Most kind hospitality. A glass of '57 Pinot if you have it, but beer will do fine"
efnisien: "Be careful when you ask him those kinds of questions, my good man, he might get the wrong end of the stick"
chris107: Just for a moment a look crosses his face that you are all touched
Goonergeezer: Maranwe's ears prick up even more at this, yes a pint and i shall regale you with the story of the evil goblin lord dressed all in red, who stole into childrens bedrooms at nights to give them presents, and our vanquishing of him
chris107: He shakes his head and leads you into a rough and ready barraks
efnisien:
chris107: A makeshift bar with several tapped barrels
chris107: rough ale is poured and you regail him with your stories?
Goonergeezer: ohhhhh yes
chris107: He's not a fellow to blush, thankfully.
chris107: He looks often at Sregeant Saren and mouthes "Don't we have laws against that?"
efnisien: I guess even O'Toole or Ustinov would not be raconteurs to compete with Maranwé
chris107: As Maranwe regails the astounded company with his lurid stories.
chris107: Mark
chris107: And as it's rapidly coming up to 10PM, I think we will stop there. In a place of safety for a change
chris107: Thanks for playing guys!
efnisien: I was almost expecting another cliffhanger!
