Smon: Ulfe looks across the field of slaughter. "You did a right number on my boys. You're gonna make mincemeat of those Black Sun eejits!"
sandor sunneson: Ok Ulfe, we have a truce at the moment. So what you know about these demons?
Smon: Ulfe fingers a tusk point. "Which demons? The ones down below?"
sandor sunneson: yes,
sandor sunneson: they coming up to fight in the war too to assist the black sun?
Smon: Ulfe shrugs. "Not much, dumb orc shaman says there's demons, along with trogs and stuff. Lotsa Stirges - hate those buggers."
Smon: Ulfe's eyes widen. "They are??"
sandor sunneson: I'm asking you
sandor sunneson: Anyway, take us to the Shamen's lair please
Smon: "Well 'ow would I know? They don't bloody tell me!" he says, aggrievedly.
chris107: "Pst..Ask him about the secret passage to the Shaman's good stuff and the wee girl who needs recuing."
sandor sunneson: and where the girl is
Smon: "Shaman first, girl later? I bet she's gaggin' fer it.. ole Yarrack had her tied up in the pen fer days!"
Smon: Ulfe grins lecherously.
sandor sunneson: Sure, Shaman first

Smon: Ulfe looks a bit nervous at the growl.
chris107: "The girls safety is worth more than any treasure."
Smon: "Shaman, right, this way..."
Smon: Ulfe leads you down the southeast fork and opens a secret door cleverly constructed to blend into the natural rock of the cave.
chris107: Hakeem scores Sandor down in the ready for Kingship stakes for caring more about treasures than life.
Smon: On the other side, a worked passage continues up to what appears to be a blank wall, marked with hexes and curses in Orc.
Smon: Ulfe fiddles with the blank wall, cursing about "Bloody dwarf doors", until it rotates open.The secret door pivots open to reveal a chamber of finished stonework. The room is cluttered with crude furnishings, and the air is hazy with the smoke of a small cooking fire. Dozens of yellowed skulls are suspended from the ceiling by fraying ropes strung through holes punched in the bone.
Smon: In the north wall is another door, key in the lock.
sandor sunneson: Is that the way Ulfe?
chris107: Ursa and Hakeem shadow the pair for any signs of betrayl
Smon: There is a lot of clutter, but you make out two coin sacks and three flasks sitting on a stool.
Smon: "This is Shaman room. Demons're that way." He points to the locked door.
Smon: "Shaman sez she keeps 'em from eatin' us. I sez she lyin' bitch."
sandor sunneson: Sandor will check the coins and flasks
chris107: "This where she keeps the good stuff you mentioned?" Shouts the Dwarf.
Smon: The flasks contain a bright green acris fluid - alchemist's fire.
sandor sunneson: Can Ajax use that?
Smon: The sacks hold silver coins - 160 in all.
Smon: Yup anyone can throw it.
sandor sunneson: Any more coin?
sandor sunneson: Is that the good stuff Ulfe?
Smon: Ulfe shrugs. "Guess so. Maybe Yarrack was 'avin me on. He always got the best loot..."
sandor sunneson: Ok, take us to the girl then

chris107: "And who is Yarrack? Is he still alive?"
chris107: Shouts cunning Ursa.
Smon: GM: Ulfe nods and takes you to the west tunnel. "Yarack? Didn't ye kill him?"
sandor sunneson: It's the way to the demons, I value human life, think we should rescue the girl Ursa

Smon: Artemisia: "I recall the Orc who killed my Weaponmaster called himself that, yes."
chris107: "Ah, yes, he was tough."
Smon: Artemisia: "He is dead."
Smon: Ulfe nods: "He was always hiding treasure abouts - I reckon he had a hidey-hole in the well? And more..."

sandor sunneson: Sandor scowls at Ursa for wanting to fight rather than preserve human life
Smon: The passage heads SW and comes into a good sized cave with a fork off to the SE. Ulfe points SE "Kitchen that way." He leads you into the cave.
chris107: Hakeem despairs of Dwarf and so called Barbarian.
Smon: The walls and floor of this natural cave have been carefully smoothed . You can discern at least four routes leading off into darkness . Red coals glow from within the southeastern passageway, and a crude wooden cage door closes off the southern exit. The floor is covered with sleeping furs, crates, sacks, and rubbish.
Smon: To the west a wide long tunnel leads towards barred bronze doors - the far side of which was where Hakeem got to on your initial assault.

Smon: Ulfe goes over to the caged off south area.
Smon: A row of rough-hewn sapling trunks forms a crude but serviceable barrier across the mouth of this small cave. A door locked with an iron padlock secures the room.

Smon: That's the old map, the one in the 5e reprint is terrible.
Smon: (not as bad as the Sunless Citadel one though!)
Smon: (I should just use 3e adventures & convert them to 5e)
chris107: Ursa remembers the mouth of the dwarf statue been hinged...
Smon: Ulfe indicates the padlock - "Yarrack has the key. Don't want no one getting at the girl..."
chris107: Can Ursa use Strength of the bear to break the bars or lock?
chris107: Or maybe we found a key?
Smon: He points through the gaps in the 'cage'. Beyond you see a pretty, very shapely human girl with short dark hair tied cruelly to a T-shaped stock, her mouth gagged open with some foul orcish device.

chris107: Ursa rends at the timbers
Smon: She's naked, about 20 years. Her eyes are open and she regards you beseechingly from where she's kneeling, wrists bound behind her.

sandor sunneson: Free her!! That's awful

sandor sunneson: Sandor will cut her free with his +1 dagger

Smon: Bear lifting abilit doesn't help, but you can try sawing at the lock w +1 dagger.

Smon: The padlock has AC 19 and 5 hit points, some sawing from the enchanted dagger slowly bites through the iron.
Smon: After a minute it falls apart and you push the door open.
Smon: Artemisia rushes in to free the poor girl.
Smon: Arty: "It's okay, you're safe now..."
Smon: She kneels, untying the girl's wrists and feet, then together they get the gag from her mouth.
Smon: She coughs.
Smon: "*gurgh*"
Smon: She looks fearfully up the ogre.
Smon: Ulfe: "What?! I never touched ya! Yarrack wouldn't let..."

Smon: Artemisia: "It's alright girl, he's our prisoner. Who are you? Where are you from?"
Smon: Arty: "Ursa fetch her a blanket - cleanet you can find." The girl nods: "Susan - Susan Ornelos..."
Smon: Her accent is Ghinarian.

Smon: (ok you're right chris, I thought it was just lifting) "My father was the farmer Yorbund Ornelos... I was captured by the Orcs of the Arang-Tok - they raided our farm on the river 5 miles southwest of Carchimish. That ogre smashed the gate... They killed my parents and my three brothers... *sob*. They dragged me 20 miles here, to the Stone Tooth . The one Yarrack claimed me for his own..."

Smon: Ulfe shrugs. "Orcs told me to smash the gate... What wuz I gonna do? Eh?"
Smon: Artemisia: "Do you have family we can return you to?"
Smon: Susan: "Only Aunt Agnes, widow of my uncle, the farmer Garrick, his farm is a mile further west on the river. Agnes though is a fat and cruel woman. They say she is a witch. Her three ugly daughters are equally unpleasant, and I would not be keen on returning to her..."
Smon: Artemisia: "Hmm, your Lord must be Rey of Carchimish, we could..."
Smon: Susan blanches. "Please! I do not wish to join the harem of the Warlord of Carchimish!"

Smon: Artemisia listens to Sandor: "Well, there are no slaves at High-haven... We are not like other Amazons, we do no keep women to work for us like beasts. But perhaps, if she wishes to stay, we could find work for her."
Smon: OOC All the other Wilderlands tribes keep slave women, even the LG ones.

Smon: Artemisia nods: "Thusia would be safest place for her. If we fail, everyone in Highhaven will perish - or worse."
sandor sunneson: Sandor likes what he hears, it's good to negotiate
chris107: "Now let's kill those Demons through the locked door. Ulfe here can go first."
sandor sunneson: Are we done here then? Rescued the chick?
sandor sunneson: Ok, lets do that
Smon: Susan nods gratefully to Ursa as he returns with a bashed-cleanish blanket. She wraps herself in it and gets shakily to her feet, leaning on his stout shoulder.
sandor sunneson: A fight a night..........
Smon: Artemisia glances at Ulfe, then whispers: "If the Orcs are dealt with, I see no need to risk battle again so soon. I was wounded in the battle and will need time to heal. And Bricis should be brought to Meda - or buried, if she cannot be returned."
chris107: H to A "Was it only this handfull of Orcs we came to destroy, to secure back the fortress?"
Smon: Artemisia sighs sadly. "I know in my heart that Bricis will not return."
chris107: "Very well, your majesty. But I fear we are missing something important here. Something that could sway our futures."
Smon: Artemisia: "Hmm. The Orcs must be planning to use this place as their staging post, from which to assault Highhaven. We must decide - do we secure and fortify this place against them?"
chris107: "That was to be our plan, as I understood it."
sandor sunneson: Ulfe, why were the orcs here? You know what their plans were?
chris107: "It would also secure whatever secrets lay below until we have chance to explore them."
Smon: Artemisia looks thoughtful. "Even if the orcs move swiftly it will be a few weeks before they can cross the high peaks to the west. We have time to prepare a trap, I think."
chris107: "Excellent!"
sandor sunneson: What other information can you tell us?
chris107: "Ursa here should stay and prepare the place with his Dwarven cunning."
Smon: Ulfe nods. "Yeah, we wuz told - the Black Sun man in the shiny said - we wuz to go here, hold it till more orcs came, then join the attack. We wuzn't supposed to raid, but Yarrack got bored. You know Yarrack..."
chris107: "Though I think it only right we slay any demons first."
Smon: Ulfe: "I'll fight yer demons. My rates are very reasonable." He grins.
chris107: "See Sandor, he's nicked all the loot we've found here." Says Hakeem glibly.
chris107: (No fool that Hakeem )
chris107: "I just do the bleeding around here..."
Smon: Artemisia: "Hmm. Ogre, if you swear to fight for us, I will let you live. When the depths below the Stone Tooth are cleansed, you will be allowed to leave if you promise not to bring steel against us...or fight with us against Black Sun, if you wish."
sandor sunneson: There's some silver left in that last room
Smon: Ulfe nods: "An' I get a share of the loot down there?" Arty shrugs. "Certainly."
chris107: (and the stuff from the chests?)
Smon: Ulfe: "Silver's good... And when we capture some of them pretty Black Sun witch-girls. I..."
chris107: (That vanished into Sandor's copious pockets? )
Smon: "NO!!" yells Artemisia vehemently.
Smon: Ulfe jumps slightly, "OK, ok, keep yer hair on!"

chris107: "Have you rested enough to continue my Queen?"
chris107: "Or would you like to take Bricis back and we will continue alone?"
chris107: "Your Griffon's are close at hand I believe?"
chris107: anyone there?
Smon: Artemisia nods. "I doubt I'd survive another fight like that one. I had best return. I'll get the others and we'll get Bricis back to Highhaven."
sandor sunneson: I am
chris107: Phew, thought I'd dropped connection.
chris107: "Then Bondorr's speed, Artimisia. Send a force to hold this place as soon as you may."
chris107: "Now we go and slay some demons!"
chris107: Hakeem brightens considerably at the thought.
Smon: Artemisia nods. "I'll send a force here on foot. With luck they should be here by sunset."
Smon: OOC how are you guys for rages etc?
chris107: 3 rages down for H and one 9recovered berserk. 2 Rages down for Ursa
sandor sunneson: Have 3 left
Smon: Artemisia turns to Susan Ornelos: "Come with me girl. We'll get you safe to Highhaven. From there you can go on to Thusia - Lady Meda welcomes all who are lost."
Smon: GM: Artemisia has you bring Bricis' body out to the wide ledge before the Mountain Door. Outside in the morning light she & Susan bid you farewell.

Smon: Back inside in the main hall (8) Ulfe collects the pike he dropped when tortoise-ised.

Smon: Iron Gate. The passage leading east is blocked about 10 feet in by tightly packed crates and sacks of flour. Removing this material allows travel for another 20 feet to the east, where the tunnel ends at an iron gate stuffed with blankets and straw pallets.
DESTROYERBILL: i will kill you all

Smon: The iron gate's lock is rusted shut.
Smon: Ursa could inspect it?
chris107: But then Shieldbiter will have to do all the hard work!

chris107: Ursa will wait until the demons are dead.
