27/10/448 Time Mist & Steel Guardians (1375 XP)

joriandrake: before the others get here can you please explain how 5e surprise happens? I still don't fully get it. SO: everyone rolls Initiative, but only the non-surprised characters act, this counts as first turn, and then in second turn everyone acts based on init?
Smon: Yes. If you start with the Surprised condition you cannot take Reactions. You cannot act on your turn. The condition ends at the end of your turn.

Smon: You typically have the Surprised condition if attackers have sneaked up on you unawares.
Smon: High level Barbarians have a special power to act when Surprised on their turn, as long as they immediately Rage.
joriandrake: that is interesting, that would mean Bright Star could sneak up on someone, attack, and if low on Init still flee with her race/class abilities that very turn, of if high init decide that she also attacks once again on turn 2 and then flee before the enem,y can react on turn 2

Smon: The chamber is about 40' se-nw and sw-ne. A giant-sized throne of rose-hued
marble sits against the SE wall of this chamber,
protected by three massive humanoid figures fashioned from shining steel. Red and white tiles divide the floor into two separate sections. A 15’ pathway of white tiles leads between the room’s two exits (N & W exits) along the nw wall; the rest of the room bears red tiling.
joriandrake: He sighs, watches the red tiled corridor a bit then follows Bright Star

Smon: The steel statues(?) are about 15' tall and chromed, their faces featureless.
joriandrake: "Well... a throne room with guards"

Keelia: Bright Star considers. "The throne is empty but guarded. What happens if one sits on the throne? Does one become Queen?"
Smon: They definitely seem like golems, reminiscent of iron golems only shiny.
Keelia: "And is it worth fighting those armoured golems to find out?"
joriandrake: "The throne might bind the things to the ruler's bidding...that is, if they accept the one sitting on the throne as ruler instead of smashing him or her"
DESTROYERBILL: lets fight them
Keelia: "They will likely let us pass if we stay upon the white."
joriandrake: "They look like iron golems, but I assume the material is different, steel perhaps?"
joriandrake: "Bright Star, only you are fast enough to attempt to sit on the throne and flee if it doesn't work out, probably best to only step on white tiles"
Keelia: "Bright Star is fast. Perhaps fast enough to land on the throne and test that theory. But if it fails, she will be in a bad way, perhaps dead," she muses
joriandrake: "You have an uncanny way to avoid attacks as well"
Smon: The tiling around the throne is solid red. There is only a 10' strip of white tiles along the NW wall, from west entry (where you are) to north exit tunnel.
Keelia: "If Tal draws them off to the side, Bright Star can try to sneak onto the throne. If it fails, she can attack from behind."
DESTROYERBILL: if you become the queen you will get lots of shinyes
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro is feeling brave and will go and walk up to the throne
Keelia: And Tal just said the magic words. Bright Star's ears go forward.
joriandrake: "Hmm, might need some additional acrobatic skill to step only on the white tiles then jump over into the throne"
Keelia: "Shinies?"
Smon: OK Sandro steps onto the red tiles & the collossi turn menacingly towards him... roll init everyone

Keelia: How far away from throne? Enough that with kitty speed, I could, in theory, zoom around them, keeping to the wall as far outside of hitting distance, and jump into the throne?
