8:08pm  2017-11-29 Sandor Sunneson Has entered the room
Sandor Sunneson: evening Simon
Smon: Hi Fergus
Sandor Sunneson: router reset and all is good
Smon: Bill killing video orcs
Smon: ok he's logged off...
Sandor Sunneson: What you thinking then off the top of your head?
Smon: http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2017/11/sandorajaxmaglor.html
Smon: last session
Smon: We'll do Sandor & Shieldbiter
Smon: GM: 14/6/47 The day after the encounter with the Blackarrow pirates, the Foamrunner returns to her home port of Diancecht.
8:14pm  2017-11-29 DESTROYERBILL Has entered the room
Sandor Sunneson: Ok, Sandor left the corpse of Ajax to the sharks
Sandor Sunneson: To Neptune
DESTROYERBILL: hello mortals
Sandor Sunneson: Hello your highness
DESTROYERBILL: hey
Smon: Princess Crystal tells her father the elf king the tale of what happened.
Smon: Shieldbiter the dragonborn is mooching around the elf court with a treasure map.
Sandor Sunneson: Sandor will approach him, you ok SB?
DESTROYERBILL: im good you
Sandor Sunneson: A bit sad to be honest with you, Ajax no more :(.
Sandor Sunneson: In some ways I wish we would have let the pirates on board but it is what it is. What's on the map?
Smon: The stories of Rhissel, the Morning Lord, are known across the lands, although sometimes his name changes. It is said that he fought with great mind magics against invaders from another realm, harnessing even the sun itself to strike down his enemies, and sometimes his friends. His great might was indiscriminate, and his armies were rarely safe from the devastation his magics brought to the battlefields. In time, like most who stood against the other realms, Rhissel was slain and his body and supposedly some of his great magics were entombed in his ziggurat. But in this day and age, few know of it’s location, and fewer still are willing to mount the dangerous expedition to find it.
Sandor Sunneson: What is believed to be there?
Smon: Shieldbiter has discovered in his dusty home hills a map showing the location of the Ziggurat in the Valley of the Red Apes within Crimson Serpent Jungle.
Sandor Sunneson: what is a Ziggurat?
Smon: Great treasures, possibly even Darmon's Fists, gauntlets said to give invincibility in battle.
Sandor Sunneson: It's a hotel in Edinburgh according to google
Smon: a pyramid
Sandor Sunneson: I guess you would be wanting these gauntlets for yourself SB? Is there anything else in it for me Sandor asks?
DESTROYERBILL: check your mesages fergus
DESTROYERBILL: i know of humungus down sides to being invinsble to balance it to make sure you dont rule the world
Smon: Rhissel also wore the Amulet of Morning, with which he blasted his foes with terrible radiance.
Smon: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKs0F1norL3fHHUef6XoXVrdLJACB-ytdlwFCPfTXhl2B_1-4KQ5NCmLkGxi6J9ReAZiJiCeTnv9-ikXL7Xn3S8WTNJ3FoobuyNWVh84tLfITiBwlYvR7Jkv3z1F3sRXyHYktPiQ5KKvc/s1600/River+of+Visions+and+NE+Oricha.png
Sandor Sunneson: So if Sandor is to have the amulet and SB the gauntlets, shall we go and see what we can find?
Smon: On the map the valley is shown as being in hex 2908 in the hills fringing the jungle.
DESTROYERBILL: sure
Sandor Sunneson: cool, lets go for a march then
Smon: map of the valley showing the ziggurat - https://rpgcharacters.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/valley-of-the-red-apes.jpg?w=1400
Sandor Sunneson: Cool, I see it
DESTROYERBILL: its 30 miles from my home
DESTROYERBILL: how about we go on my wyvern
Sandor Sunneson: Sure, quicker than walking
Smon: GM: 15/6/47 early one sunny morning you mount the royal wyvern outside Diancecht and take to wing from the cliffs.
DESTROYERBILL rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
Smon: The wyvern circles round then you fly sw over the viridian expanse of the crimson serpent jungle.
Smon: No random fliers attack you
Sandor Sunneson: You can't do that to Bill, he's your Son
Smon: Towards evening as the sun lowers over the western mountains you reach the area of the lost valley...

Sandor Sunneson: lol, Sandor sees it easily, who needs dragonssight
Smon: As you get closer Sandor's keen barbarian sight spots a band of burly red apes on the vine wrapped step pyramid...
Sandor Sunneson: He'll point it out to SB
Smon: You also see bones in their communal nest, and a silver scroll tube catches the light of the setting sun.
DESTROYERBILL: i already saw it
DESTROYERBILL: so you dont have to point it out
DESTROYERBILL: i made my check
Smon: The apes hoot and holler as the wyvern draws closer.
Smon: You hear more answering howls from the jungle.
DESTROYERBILL: i land close to the temple
Smon: There are cliffs to the south and a thick stand of trees to the north
Smon: to the west you see a silvery stream or small river snaking through the valley
Smon: https://rpgcharacters.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/valley-of-the-red-apes.jpg?w=1400

DESTROYERBILL: i do to
DESTROYERBILL: i fly up and look at the surounding area with my wings
Sandor Sunneson: Shall we head over to the Ziggurat?

Smon: You head west?
DESTROYERBILL: lets set up an ambush
Sandor Sunneson: Wait for SB to come back down to ground level
Smon: The sun touches the western mountaintops, soon it will be dusk.
Sandor Sunneson: Ok,
DESTROYERBILL: sandor you distract them over here and ill attack them and they wont expect it
Smon: SB spots an entrance on the east face of the ziggurat!
Sandor Sunneson: lol, ok, so I'll walk out into a clearing and then run back toward you if they chase me?
DESTROYERBILL: cool
Sandor Sunneson: We'll try that Simon
Smon: The ziggurat proper is an old and abused 4-step stone pyramid showing the marks of the ages squatting in the centre of the valley. There is a single entrance facing to the east seemingly cut into the top tier of the pyramid, like a single eye socket in a dead god’s skull. Each step of the Ziggurat is just over 12 feet tall, and no stairway has been added to access the opening at the top.
DESTROYERBILL: yes thats the plan fergus
Smon: Sandor heads through the undergrowth, it's quite tough going.
Smon: But soon he comes out of the trees, the ziggurat looms above him in the dusk.
Smon: "ARRR!"
Smon: say the apes.
Smon: A dozen of the massive red brutes leap up and down, howling.
Smon: Apes start to move towards Sandor.
Sandor Sunneson: Sandor will head back to SB as planned

There is a single entrance facing to the east seemingly cut into the top tier of the pyramid, like a single eye socket in a dead god’s skull. Each step of the Ziggurat is just over 12 feet tall, and no stairway has been added to access the opening at the top.
Sandor Sunneson: Sounds good
Smon: The ape nest is on the south side of the ziggurat, you ignore it?
Sandor Sunneson: Is it rough stone so easy to climb up each step?
Sandor Sunneson: No, lets go and check out SB??
Sandor Sunneson: Think there was a scroll in there?
DESTROYERBILL: yeah
DESTROYERBILL: no probably no scroll
Smon: You can pull yourselves up via the vines easy enough.
Sandor Sunneson: Ok
Smon: Sandor clambers up and inspects the nest, human or similar bones scattered in the floor.
Smon: He spots a leather pouch full of coin, and the silver scroll tube.
DESTROYERBILL: oh yeah i cooked the apes with my sword and ate some of them
Smon: It is very intricately fashioned and inlaid with tiny diamonds.

Smon: ok, inside the case is still stoppered
Smon: You hear a scroll inside
Smon: as it moves
Smon: Bill is asking me if it talks (no)
Smon:
Smon: SB opens the scroll case - inside is a second map of the valley...
Sandor Sunneson:
Smon: But this one The treasure map shows a trail west from the ziggurat out of this valley and into the next, where a pair of massive standing stones indicate the location of buried treasure.
Smon: "Darmon's Fists" it says - the legendary gauntlets!
Smon: Looking at the scale, the stones should only be a mile or so from here.
Sandor Sunneson: lets go that way ??
DESTROYERBILL: yep
Smon: GM: OK, there is a faint trail leading west from the ziggurat.
Smon: After a few minutes you reach the small river just north of where it plunges over a 50' waterfall.
Smon: Looks like the trail continues beyond
Sandor Sunneson: follow on.....
Smon: SB flies over the river, Sandor has to wade, water up to his chest...
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
Smon: Luckily no crocs out looking for dinner...
Smon: Sandor emerges wet the far side.
Smon: You trek over a ridge and through hilly forest. Half a mile or so further on you see the two massive standing stones rising amidst scraggly trees.
Smon: According to the map the X is the soft earth between the stones.
Sandor Sunneson: Are they buried into the ground?
Smon: Each must weigh 30 tons, the dolmens thrust into the night sky.
Smon: Presumably, yes.
Smon: You can see they are carved in ancient Draconic runes.
Sandor Sunneson: ok, can you read what that says SB?
DESTROYERBILL: i read them
Smon: "Praise be to Rissel, May His Light Burn the Demonbrood Invaders!"
DESTROYERBILL: yes i can read them
Smon: Sounds like Rhissel was a Dragonborn from the script.
Smon: And the invaders he fought were the Tieflings/Demonbrood
Smon: According to the map the X is the soft earth between the stones.
Sandor Sunneson: Shall we start digging SB?
Smon: Some scraggly ferns are growing there.
Smon: You start digging...
DESTROYERBILL: yes lets dig
Sandor Sunneson: I've no shovel
DESTROYERBILL: make sure you dont dig under the stone a bit causing it to fall over
DESTROYERBILL: dig with your hands!!!
Sandor Sunneson: If the soil is loose Sandor will, start burrowing away
DESTROYERBILL: i claw at the ground reclessly
Smon: After an hour's digging by dragonborn claw (Sandor helping) you are tired & sweaty and have a good sized hole 3' deep, when...
Smon: You reach the top of a coffer, made of a dark steel it looks like. Locked.
Sandor Sunneson: Wonder where the key is
Sandor Sunneson: Is it a padlock style lock??
Smon: (no) SB puts his claw over the lock; nothing happens.
Smon: There is an inset keyhole.
Smon: recessed
Smon: SB puts a fingertip into the keyhole.... nothing.
Sandor Sunneson: MAde of metal?
Sandor Sunneson: the coffer?
Smon: whole chest is a dark steel, no corrosion.
Sandor Sunneson: sorry darks teeel

Smon: Vertical slit keyhole
Smon: SB tries to shove the map in.
Smon: No effect,
Sandor Sunneson: Is there any indication of a key on the map?
Smon: SB roars & tries to rip open the coffer...
Smon: SB picks up box from the earth - nothing below it
