3 cultists executed.
The aberrant cultist 'Mr Tentacles' leads group to the caves south of Clear Meadows, but escapes during battle with a fibrous fungal creature. Rey & Os find a globe of 'Ye World of Yggsburgh' with the title deeds to Castle Kallent inside.
Further in the group find a glowing energy crystal, are ambushed by a Roper which bites Hakeem & Malenn before being dispatched.

8:24am 2015-5-10 boredom3031 Has entered the room
boredom3031: Heya man
8:25am 2015-5-10 chris107 Has entered the room
Smon: Hello boredom. Were you the one who wanted to play a PC?
8:25am 2015-5-10 atherton Has entered the room
Smon: Hi chris
chris107: Morning Simon
Smon: Hi ath
Smon: I'm raising the start level to 4 now
boredom3031: Yeah, but will probably sit this session out.
chris107: No internet but I had to pop into town to get food so thought I'd have an hour with you
atherton: what are you playing Zach?
boredom3031: Got the 5E basic rules though, so soon I can probably join..mostly when I sober up.
Smon: That's cool Boredom, was going to suggest you look at Basic.
Smon: Also I have enough info on Barbarians posted to make them playable w/out rulebook.
boredom3031: nice.
Smon: WotC also have the Basic rules in HTML - http://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop/players-basic-rules
chris107: Barbarians at level 7 get advantage on initiative
boredom3031: yep downloaded the player and DM basic rules.
Smon: That plus the info at bottom of campaign page should be enough.
Smon: I've seen complaints 5e Barbarians are overpowered. Definitely a very strong class.
Smon: Works great for Ghinarian Hills, anyway.
Smon: Hakeem just about beat Sarene in a duel, and her stats made her supposedly a good challenge for an entire 5th level party.
chris107: Thankfully the stupidity of those who play Barbarians balance out the classes advantage
8:30am 2015-5-10 Kjato Ragfoot Has entered the room
Smon: Hi Kjato!
chris107: Hi Kjato
boredom3031: Also sent the basic books to my friend, wish he would stop being lazy and join DF. (Same friend that bought me the cyclopedia.)
Kjato Ragfoot: Hello
Smon: Any idea what class you'll play boredom?
Smon: (Think I'll just call you bore)
boredom3031: Can call me zach if you wish.
Smon: Zach is better
boredom3031: Or bore works too.
boredom3031: No idea yet, but the class/race would have to be from the basic set obviously.
Smon: Current regular PCs are all human - Barbarian Rogue Warlock & Fighter
Smon: Anything you like is good, 5e doesn't need particular roles filled.
boredom3031: I'd probably go fighter, that fits my style.
Smon:
8:35am 2015-5-10 Amalric Has entered the room
boredom3031: Heya graham
chris107: Morning Graham
Amalric: wow full house! good morning
Smon: Duelist style Fighter seems most powerful to me; I think 2 weapon may be best at low level.
chris107: Not sure how long O can hang around. Just popped into town to get Bacon and stuff for breakfast
boredom3031: Yeah I will probably join the game, once I sober up and make a pc. x)
Smon: Hi G
Smon: GM: You still need to decide what you are doing re the 4 aberrant cultists.
Smon: They are all being v cooperative hoping not to get killed.
chris107: Let's take tentacles and go kill their boss
chris107: The rest - a quick clean death
Smon: Malenn nods."I agree with Hakeem." (unsurprising)
chris107: Sensible girl
chris107: H is almost a paladin
Smon: She moves round behind the captives and draws her sword...
Smon: (anyone stopping her or helping her?)
chris107: Not H
chris107: He knows which side his bread is buttered
atherton: nor me either
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, we wanted to hang them originally.
Smon: Malenn runs the first one through from behind, grimacing.
atherton: I'll fashion a lead for our turncoat captive
Smon: The other two shriek.
chris107: H chops a head off
Smon: She moves behind them and runs the second cleanly through the heart as Hakeem kills the third.
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf will strangle one to prevent further shrieking.
Smon: before B can strangle anyone
chris107: Got to help the old girl out
chris107: Hehe Kjato! That made me smile
Smon: Malenn wipes her blade clean, looking just slightly shaky. "A cleaner death than they deserved."
Amalric: Rey is busy checking that poor Tamara is okay
chris107: "Quite right my dear. Can't go around molesting priestesses of Mitra. Very bad form."
Smon: Mr Tentacles looks fearful, gulps, as Rey checks on the buxom Tamara: "Could you help me retie this loincloth..."
Smon:
boredom3031 Rolls 4d6x5 and gets:
22, 66, 33, 55 = 16
33, 22, 66, 55 = 16
44, 66, 22, 66 = 18
33, 66, 55, 22 = 16
33, 11, 44, 11 = 9
boredom3031: damn. xD
Amalric: "Sorry, I'm all thumbs today..."
Smon: ooc using default array boredom, 3e-5e doesn't work too well w rolled stats due to the way the modifiers are. So 15 14 13 12 10 8, humans get +1 everything or use Altanian or Amazon mods on the page.
boredom3031: Ok will use a human
Smon: Tamara sighs sadly as the ruined loincloth refuses to retie: "I wonder if the paladin has a spare one..."
atherton: I hand the captives lead to Hakeem and then I waddle back to retrieve my bow
chris107: I can see another ruined wolf skin cloak coming up
Amalric: "They really did make a mess of your clothing..."
Smon: Holding the ruined loincloth on with her hands to preserve minimal dignity, Tamara goes and talks to Malenn, who retrieves one from her copious backpack.
chris107: Hakeem looks dumbly at the lead "WTF am I supposed to do with this?"
boredom3031: (Will post the basic stats on the thread for now, still too drunk to do too much after that.) lol
Smon: Tamara turns away and shrugs on the new loincloth, then looks down sadly at her ruined dress.
atherton: I ponderously waddle back to Hakeem
Kjato Ragfoot: We can give her the cape of one of the attackers?
chris107: H hands the lead back
atherton: "walk him like the dog he is my dear boy"
Amalric: Rey quietly wonders if Malenn is a paladin of Mitra or merely a loincloth saleswoman
chris107: H is a trifle more useful with his big sword than as a dog walker...
atherton: I jab the captive a little too enthusiastically with my falchion
atherton: "lead on boy, take us to this secret master of yours"
Smon: Os gets his bow & returns to Hakeem. Tamara has no desire to wear the vile clothing of the cultists. To Bjornalf: "Just a loincloth is fine for now, thank you."
Kjato Ragfoot: If she is a loincloth saleswoman, she definitely is the worst one I ever met - usually, saleswomen demand money for their actions.
atherton: my char picture Chris http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/pc-atherton-osgar-fighter-3.html
Smon: Hakeem & Os prod Mr Tentacles and he shows you a narrow trail through the trees, heading SW.
chris107: Hehe nice one Athers
Smon: You set out, Tamara still looking shaky and frequently leaning on the chivalrous Lord Reynard for support; she has to lead her pony as the way is rugged and overgrown.
Smon: You head for several hours into the hills, roughly SW.
Smon: From a rise you can see the village of Clear Meadows to the north, the blue sea sparkling beyond.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 22,
atherton: "friend Hakeem, I need to earn some gold to buy a big mug or goblet"
chris107: "Then let's go kill some stuff"
atherton: "I hope these wretched cultists have some gold"
chris107: H nods agreement
Smon: For once nobody attacks you. It's about 2pm and you have trekked for 3 hours since leaving the road, when Tentacles points out a dark cave entrance in a cliff ahead, half hidden by undergrowth. "There."
boredom3031: (Sorry to interrupt again, just want to tell smon that I posted the basic stats in his thread and after I sober up I will finish the PC)
chris107: "Any traps or guards Mr. T?"
Amalric: "Gold would be most welcome. I have a couple of necklaces to buy back..."
Smon: cheers, thx b. You can join in any time you're ready w a name etc. You playing a local? The nearest big town is Ahyf, Clear Meadows is a large village troubled by the cultist abductions.
atherton: "well lloks like we have no further use for this wretched villian"
Smon: T nods. "There are several traps near the entrance. Most are sprung. I... what?!"
Kjato Ragfoot: Eh, he can still act as trap finder.
atherton: "let us hang him, he has served his usefulness to us"
Amalric: "Maybe he can tell us if there are any traps? secret doors? how they work?"
chris107: He may be able to guide us within
Smon: "No! You don't understand!"
Smon: T nods quickly, tentacles whirring.
atherton: "I say we hang him now"
boredom3031: (That sounds most logical to me, gives a logical reason why he'd meet the party.)
Smon: "I can lead you safely through the traps. And you will need me to access the Temple on the 5th level."
chris107: "You going to go first and spring the rest of the traps Os?"
Smon: "There are many traps, secret doors, the Portal... You will not get far without me."
chris107: H votes to let him lead. If it's into a trap...
atherton: "I think he's a lying weasel Hakeem"
Kjato Ragfoot: And we have him on a leash. If he runs, he just strangles himself.
chris107: "Me too Os. But he's all we've got."
chris107: H votes to let him lead. If it's into a trap...
atherton: "what if he tricks us and leads us into a trap?"
chris107: Then I chop his head off
Kjato Ragfoot: He seems way to scared to try anything as daft as that.
Smon: @zach this is the DF thread we're using now - http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=70130&start=30 - post stats there.
Amalric: "He's at the end of a sword we can kill him in a blink."
atherton: "make sure its the first thing you do"
atherton: "ok on, you wretched piece of flith" I snap the rope at this head
atherton: filth* his **
Smon: T: "Th-the first trap is a portcullis, designed to fall behind those entering. We must avoid the pressure plate..."
Smon: T points out the row of holes in the ceiling just above the entrance.
chris107: good start
boredom3031: Thanks simon
atherton: squinting suspiciously I usher Mr T forward
Smon: Just beyond the entrance is an open pit, narrow ledges to either side. The stench of decay issues from the pit. T shows you where to walk to avoid the entrance trap.
Amalric: can Rey try and disable the portcullis?
Smon: Rey checks out the portcullis...
Smon: /roll d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 77, (+4) = 11
Amalric: before we go in
Smon: He can make out the plate, but not any way to disable it.
Smon: T takes a torch from a wall sconce. "I need to light this to see our way..."
Amalric: just thinking we might want to disable traps if we have to leave without Tentacles
atherton: "good idea, lets wait up"
Amalric: "Oooh! He's a torch holder too! Maybe we should keep him a while longer..."
Smon: GM: Marching order - Tentacles, Hakeem & Os, Rey & Tamara, Bjornalf & Malenn?
chris107: Works for me
Smon: The tunnel is around 10' wide.
Amalric: fine with me
Kjato Ragfoot: Agree
boredom3031: (Posted, simon, thanks)
atherton: yep
Smon: ok I'll check b's sheet...
Smon: Hm, needs a bit of work http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=70130&start=30#p1635686
chris107:
boredom3031: Indeed. xD
Amalric: we're all checking it now, and laughing
Smon: Tentacles gets his torch lit. In the red light you see the corpses in the pit - two figures in cultist robes, decayed with bones partly showing, and the skeleton of a human in rusty chain with shortsword.
boredom3031: Just keeping it there until I wake up in the morning sober and can finish it.
Smon: Spikes impale all three. A giant centipede crawls out of the last victim's skull.
chris107: (Maybe wise to have an independent torch bearer too. )
Amalric: is the shortsword rusty?
Smon: The sword looks in good condition.
Amalric: Tamara could carry a torch? Rey also has his magic dagger
Amalric: how far down is the sword in the pit?
Smon: Rey hands Tamara a torch, she lights it off T's torch, not looking at the cultist.
Smon: Pit is 10' deep.
chris107: Cool. Forgot the magic dagger. Just didn't want us plunged into sudden darkness
Amalric: could someone lower Rey down on a rope?
Smon: (ok b, guess you just watch for now, we'll bring you in later)
Amalric: anyone have a rope?
Kjato Ragfoot: We have rope. Hakeem and Os should be strong enough to let you down.
chris107: I'm sure that he will end up hanging from a rope somewhere eventually
Smon: You could just lower yourself down and drop the last couple feet.
Amalric: one day at a time, Chris
chris107: We got rope n stuff from the local Lord
Smon: Tentacles coughs. "Eh, that's not a good idea..."
Amalric: Rey would rather not, given there are giant centipedes in the pit
atherton: Os weighs 22 stone, so it shouldn't be a problem
chris107: But H is busy keeping a sword on Mr. T
Kjato Ragfoot: What is not a good idea?
Amalric: "Why not, Tentacles?"
Smon: "Going down there. The Pit Thing lurks beneath the dirt. When Brother Malthis went down to get Brother Thadeus... Well, you see them now."
chris107: Nice call
Smon: "Its tentacles pulled Brother Malthis onto the spikes. We keep it fed so it should ignore us if we pass carefully..."
Amalric: "I can't use shortswords anyway..."
Smon: (you can! You just need to believe in yourself Rey!)
Kjato Ragfoot: Since Bjornalf can see in the dark: Can I see any pit things in the pit (within 120 feet)
chris107:
Amalric: (no I cant, not today )
Smon: Bjornalf can see that the dirt of the pit floor does look loose, as if recently disturbed.
atherton: I'm holding tightly to the scruff of Mr T's neck
Smon: T starts to edge along the left-hand ledge, if you let him. "This way."
Kjato Ragfoot: Hmm. Seems the pit thing is buried.
Smon: Os follows, gripping tightly.
atherton: if I fall into the things maw, he's coming with me
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf simply uses "Mage hand" to get the sword out.
chris107: H follows T & O
Smon: Beyond the pit the tunnel bends from south-east to east.
chris107: Mage Hand
atherton: if he goes for a dive howeverm I'll be sure to give him a helping hand
Amalric: down or up, athers?
Smon: Bjornalf focuses, and the sword lifts up into the air.
atherton: down
Amalric: "Nice Bjornalf. Now if you had just done that five minutes ago..."
Smon: Bjornalf brings the sword to him - a bronze Ghinarian shortsword of archaic design.
atherton: I'm a big believer in feeding cultists to whatever aberation that they worship
Kjato Ragfoot: I completely forgot I know this spell. Have not used it in years.
chris107: Very useful indeed
Smon: Just 12' or so past the pit you see the first of several corpses, a mostly skeletal human male with an axe buried in his head.
atherton: I eye off the axe
Smon: Past him lie sprawled the bodies of a halfling and a dwarf, darts protruding from them.
Kjato Ragfoot: I look at our guide: Another trap?
chris107:
Smon: The axe looks like a battleaxe, slightly rusty.
Smon: Tentacles: "The dart trap has not been reset. High Priest Seelah likes to keep the bodies here to deter intruders..."
atherton: I throw aside the magical war pick I'm carrying and pack the battle axe in its place
chris107: Throw it aside?
Smon: The halfling wears wizard-type blue robes, perhaps he was one of the mysterious Unseen Conclave said to be somewhere in the Vale.
atherton: drop it
Amalric: don't throw it aside, you can at least sell it
Smon: The dwarf wears soft leather armour.
Amalric: search his pockets
chris107: Surely it would raise good gold and it was a gift. H looks hurt.
Smon: Rey checks the corpses, they've clearly been looted.
chris107: Of any great quality?
Amalric: lets see if we can find anything useful on the bodies, and carry that pick if Os doesn;t want it
Amalric: ah
atherton: "worry not friend Hakeem, we have gained ourselves a good axe here"
Smon: reasonable quality.
chris107: H picks up the pick and hands it back to Malenn
atherton: "axe over pick as my old dad used to say"
Amalric: "It's rusty. It'll probably snap the first time you use it."
atherton: "unless you're a dwarf"
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, if you do not want it, we should give it to Tamara for now - so that she can defend herself in case of an emergency.
Smon: Malenn takes the pick, too heavy for her to wield well, and passes it to Tamara.
chris107: Good thinking
Smon: Tamara grips it two-handed, clearly not used to such weapons.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 22,
Smon: About 20' past the bodies is another open pit.
Smon: Getting closer you see it is also about 10' deep but has no spikes, but about 3' of water at the bottom.
Amalric: "Nice bath, Tentacles?"
chris107: Any clues from Mr. T?
Smon: Ahead the tunnel bends south again and there is a side tunnel to the right.
Smon: T: "Again, take the left ledge..."
Smon: He edges along the left side of the watery pit, Os gripping him.
chris107: Again follow T & O
chris107: Once they have crossed
Smon: You reach the side tunnel to the right/south, about 10' wide. After 15' it opens into a large cave, some kind of brown fibrous growth over the walls and floor.
Kjato Ragfoot: Any other exits in that cave?
chris107: Which way T?
Smon: In your torchlight you see the brown growth draped over humanoid remains in the middle of the floor. On the far side is an ornate wooden pedestal on which rests a 10" globe, a kind of world-model.
atherton: I waddle over to examine the globe
chris107: H keeps an eye on T
Amalric: "What is that?"
Kjato Ragfoot: To Guide: What is that cave about?
Smon: No visible exits from the fungi cave. T: "Not that way. We continue straight..." Os moves into the cave to examine the globe. As he does so, the fibrous strands of the brown growth suddenly reach up and lunge at him!
Smon: /roll d20+3x6

Smon: (I'm doing a group roll for PCs now)
chris107: Guys I got to go. Just had phone call asking where the bacon is
Smon: aw
chris107: Use Hakeem in his usual fashion and have fun
Smon: GUess Hakeem guards the rear
Amalric: guess he charges in
9:33am 2015-5-10 chris107 Has exited the room
Smon: He's probably snogging Malenn at the back of the party...
Kjato Ragfoot: "What is this mold?"
Smon: The strands seem to be coming out of a central mass on the cave wall to Os's right.
atherton: can I attack?
Amalric: "What is this, Tentacles? Tell us, or you are going into it!"
Smon: yes, they are wrapped round you. You could hack at strands or try to get to the central mass.
atherton: I'll hack at the strands
Smon: T: "I don't know, we avoided this cave - it looked dangerous..." he whines.
atherton rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 44, (+5) = 9
atherton: action surge
atherton rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 22, (+5) = 7
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, it rather obviously is...
Smon: ac 10
Smon: Guess it has a strand round your arm!
Smon: Is anyone else going in, or just watching?
Smon: I'll say Bjornalf Rey & cutist have a good view, Tamara Hak & Mal behind.
Kjato Ragfoot: I will prepare burning oil to be thrown at the central mass.
Smon: Will take a while to prep, and you'll have to enter the cave to get a clear throw at the central mass.
Smon: Bjornalf fishes in his pack, produces an oil gourd and rag (that's an action)
Smon: Rey?
Amalric: cut at the strands around Os?
Kjato Ragfoot: I just do not see how piercing mould will do any good here.
Smon: ok you can move in, hack at strands.
Amalric rolls 2d20 and gets: 1313, 1818, = 31
Amalric: two hits
Smon: rapier has disdvantage cutting though...
Amalric rolls 1d8+4 and gets: 66, (+4) = 10
Amalric rolls 1d4+1 and gets: 22, (+1) = 3
Amalric rolls 3d6 and gets: 55, 33, 55, = 13

Smon: Rey & Os can attack
Amalric: Rey two rolls for rapier, one for dagger
atherton rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 1212, (+5) = 17
Amalric rolls 3d20 and gets: 77, 11, 1818, = 26

Amalric rolls 3d6 and gets: 33, 55, 44, = 12
Smon: Rey severs the one attacking him.
Kjato Ragfoot: (Can I use Mage Hand to simply put the flask into the central mass? It seems to be sticky)
Smon: Yup
Kjato Ragfoot: (Then I will do that - will take one round longer, but should be an auto-hit)
Smon: Bjornalf focuses and levitates the burning oil towards the central mass, while Hakeem & Malenn charge the strands on Os, hacking at them:

Kjato Ragfoot: Rey, stop the fleeing cultist. If he escapes, he will sound the alert.
Smon: Tamara was knocked against the cave wall by Tentacles, who fled as soon as you all entered the fungi cavern.
Smon: Is Bjornalf directing the oil into the fibrous mass? More threads are starting to 'awake' but he has time to set it alight.
Amalric: brilliant
Kjato Ragfoot: Yes, Bjornalf will try to light the central mass.
Smon: Bjornalf sends the burning oil into the centre of the mass. It's dry, and immediately starts to burn. There is a shrill inhuman shrieking, almost too high-pitched to hear.
Smon: /roll d20+3

2 (+5) = 7
Smon: Malenn severs it.
Smon: Is Rey chasing the cultist?
Amalric: can he see him?
Smon: No, he ran out of sight.
Amalric: then no
Smon: You'd need to leave the fungi cave & go back to the main tunnel.
Amalric: Rey will run and grab the globe from the pedestal instead
Kjato Ragfoot: Great work Os - you just alarmed the cultists to our presence and allowed our prisoner to escape.
Kjato Ragfoot: Perhaps we should check your face for any tentacle growth?
Smon: Rey runs up and grabs the globe, made of painted wood. It depicts continents and seas, none of them familiar.
Smon: /roll d20+4
Kjato Ragfoot: After all, you were rather eager to kill them to begin with - I find that a little suspicious.
atherton: "well who was guarding the prisoner?"
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 55, (+4) = 9
Kjato Ragfoot: You were supposed to.
Amalric: "You were."
Smon: Malenn looks at Os: "I thought you were."
atherton: actually, how did he escape the tendrils Simon?
Smon: The globe is designed to rotate freely within its housing for viewing, very nice workmanship.
Amalric: (I always wanted one of those)
Smon: >> actually, how did he escape the tendrils Simon?<< You said you were going into cave to get globe, nothing about dragging cultist in.
atherton: nothing about releasing him either!
Smon: Hakeem was still with Tentacles, but when you were in trouble he ran to help you (silly NPC Hakeem)
atherton: ah ok, so its Hakeem's fault
Amalric: and yours, dumb fighters
Smon: (yeah, NPC Hakeem - Malenn just didn't want to point that out)
atherton: I grabe the globe from Rey and study it intently
Amalric: pffft, you'll be lucky
Kjato Ragfoot: Is there anything but the globe and smouldering mould in the room?
Smon: Rey grips the globe tightly.
Kjato Ragfoot: (or whatever those fibres were?)
Smon: Os can try to fight it off him.
atherton: I put every ounce of my 22 stone into wresting the globe from Rey
Amalric: "If you want to have a look, just ask. Otherwise I'll gut you like a fish."
Smon: The corpse is little more than bones, flesh & clothing consumed by the growth.
Smon: There is some writing on the base of the globe: "Ye Worlde of Yggsburgh"
Amalric: "Oooh! Some of my slaves are from there!"
Amalric: "I wonder if this device might transport them back?"
Kjato Ragfoot: Cassandra mentioned that name as well, if I recall correctly.
atherton: I search intently for Blackmoor
Amalric: Rey considers throwing it on the burning mould, opts against it
Smon: Os doesn't see a Blackmoor.
Kjato Ragfoot: We should leave the caves now. The cultists will be alerted and we should lie low for a couple days till everything calmed down.
atherton: I look for Skandia, Thrabria and Thunderhold
Amalric: "Nonsense. Lets press on, give them less time to prepare defences."
Smon: A detailed area resembles this map: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMGS11vHjqJZnZwhZHmKL0J-OLsCTyW5_BTe93hFZM966w_9KfB5W8FsG7ZjdPPMlVwTczTnXH_dA64Sntd9Zl3ApXzRryxhCzGEyqs1tRMJDwp8ULA8b-BUrB2dyK3c7swM2unrsJzkSk/s640/Yggsburgh+Regional+Map.bmp
Smon: No Skandia, Tharbria or Thunderhold. There is a large area south of a sea called Neria, to the north The Realm of Man, to the east The Easterlings. To the west is scratched Willow Vale
Amalric: "We can examine this later. We are wasting time."
Smon: OOC Basic shape of continents resembles real world, with Realm of Man in the central Europe Austria/Germany area. Neria corresponds to Egypt & Levant.
Smon: /roll d20+1
Smon rolls 1d20+1 and gets: 1616, (+1) = 17
Amalric: "Lets go see where old octupus pus went."
Smon: Os notices that a small area marked Kallent seems to trace an outline.
Smon: as if a secret compartment!
atherton: I push it
Smon: "pop"
Smon: A panel opens, inside a tightly packed scroll in the secret compartment.
atherton: I extract the scroll and begin to read it
atherton: absent mindedly handing the globe back to Rey
Amalric: LOL
Smon: (You didn't actually take it after Rey threatened you - would have been init roll). The Ietters swim into focus. The scroll is titled "Ye Deedes to Ye Castle of Kallent"
Kjato Ragfoot: (Bjornalf picture: http://de.tinypic.com/r/21117yq/8 )
Amalric: (nice pic)
atherton: I quickly read over the deeds and then pocket them in my 3rd set of trousers
Amalric: (back in 2 mins)
Smon: Below it says "I Erwin, Earl of Kallent, do hereby mortgage Ye Castle to Zagyg, Archmage of Yggsburgh..."
Smon: "Should Ye Debt not be Repaid, Ye Castle is the Full & Rightful Possession of the Holder of These Deedes"
Smon: "Ye Deedes to be Returned Upon Repayment of Ye Debt"
atherton: and its dinner time here basically
Smon: There follows a description of Ye Castle, its Fixtures and Fittings.
Smon: (brb tea break)
atherton: over to Graham and Kjato
Kjato Ragfoot: (In that case, I will grab something to eat as well)
Smon: ok so Osgar takes the Deeds from the globe Rey is holding.
Smon: Hope you're both happy.
Smon: (re cultist escape, this is why I hate NPCing PCs like Hakeem in this case)
Smon: Rey puts the 10" globe in his backpack (I think); with pedestal it's quite bulky.
Kjato Ragfoot: (Na, that was a very Hakeemy behaviour)
Smon: The deeds specify a Mortgage of 25 year term, 350,000gp to be repaid. Deeds to be presented for the money in full, or castle forfeited in lieu.
Smon: "Done in the Yggs Year 06"
Smon: What players are here? Just Kjato?
Amalric: (back, gimme a sec. where are we?)
Amalric: I'll have to kill Os at some point to get that back
Amalric: not happy about it, but i'll let it go
Kjato Ragfoot: Simply steal it.
Smon:
Amalric: anyway, lets go see if we can find where the cultist went
Smon: ok, out from the cave that stinks of burning mushroom you go.
Amalric rolls 1d20+10 and gets: 44, (+10) = 14
Amalric: maybe not today
Smon: what's that for?
Smon: your pick pockets is +7 I believe.
Amalric: is it? oh, i went with stealth
Smon: +4 DEX +3 prof
Amalric: roll again?
Smon: stealth is MOve Silently
Amalric rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 33, (+7) = 10
Smon: yeah ok, you try to pick the scroll off Os...
Amalric: LOL, not my day
Smon: not your day...
Smon:
Kjato Ragfoot: Bye the way, is that short sword magic? (I can Detect Magic at will, and should have enough time while Rey and Os inspect the globe)
Smon: no, not magic
Amalric: i'll kill him on the way out
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah. A pity. Well, we will find some good use for it.
Smon: Looks to me Rey has to roll 9 or less for Os to notice him due to -1 WIS, so could try again on pick pocket
Smon: You get back to the intersection. The tunnel you were following continues s-e, passing a side cave on the left/ne after 20'. Another 30' brings you to a Y-junction.
Amalric rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 1717, (+7) = 24
Smon: You can either go sw or continue se.
Amalric:
Smon: Rey pockets the map...
Smon: I mean Title Deed.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 22,
Smon: all seems quiet - for now.
Smon: The cave here is dry. A stalagmite runs from floor to ceiling at the Y-junction.
Smon: Who's in front? Rey?
Amalric: which way did Tentacles run?
Smon: You don't know.
Amalric: Rey will search for traps as he goes
Smon: /roll d20+2
Smon rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 1818, (+2) = 20
Amalric: continue SE then
Smon: good roll...
Smon: No traps. Both passages seem somewhat used, the sw somewhat more so,
Amalric: oh, SW then?
Kjato Ragfoot: OK.
Smon: The se tunnel opens out ahead - far in the distance down the se tunnel is a glimmer of yellow light.
Smon: The sw tunnel also widens ahead.
Smon: You going sw or se towards the light?
Amalric: actually, toward the light i'll say. Kjato?
Kjato Ragfoot: Light
Smon: Malenn: "Be careful - could be a trap..." she grips her sword hilt.
Smon: You proceed cautiously se, the tunnel widening to 15'.
Smon: Ahead to your left a 10' long side tunnel opens into a large cavern holding a dry fountain comprised of at least 100 skulls!
Smon: 7 skulls at the top are arrayed as if for water to spout from their mouths into the pool, but no water flows.
Amalric: "I don't think we want to touch that..."
Kjato Ragfoot: Definitely not.
Smon: Ahead to your right (west) flowstone steps lead up to another good-sized cavern, it looks empty. Straight ahead the tunnel narrows again and there looks to be another intersection, SW & E.
Smon: If you continue you'll come to this intersection, the light is coming from the SW branch, brighter now.
Amalric: keep heading that way
Smon: You reach the intersection...
Smon: /roll d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 1313, (+4) = 17
Smon: Rey spots the well-hidden pressure plate on the floor at the intersection.
Smon: (just north of the split)
Smon: /roll d20+2
Amalric: "Nasty place this."
Smon rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 11, (+2) = 3
Smon: He can't see any pit, dart holes etc though.
Amalric: but not the second trap?
Amalric: fair enough
Amalric: continue on
Smon: You warn em to step over it?
Amalric: yes, everyone but Os
Amalric: (joke!)
Smon: You reach the intersection. From the east tunnel comes a faint green glow, partly illuminating a cave down the 20' long east tunnel. To the ssw is a 70' tunnel that ends in what looks to be a 4-way intersection, bright lamplight coming from the west tunnel down there.
Smon: A faint cool breeze comes from the ssw tunnel.
Smon: East into green-glow cave or s towards lamplight & 4-way intersection?
Amalric: will that be light or sunlight?
Smon: no sunlight
Amalric: I think the green glow would be the main temple. Kjato?
Smon: Eerie green glow to east, yellow lamp glow to ssw
Kjato Ragfoot: Eerie glow sounds right up my sleeve.
Kjato Ragfoot: East.
Amalric: okay
Amalric: look for traps again
Smon: You go east and come out into a cave containing many stalactites & stalagmites, one large stalagmite close to the far wall blocks your view of the source of the green luminescence.
Smon: /roll d20+4
Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 77, (+4) = 11
Smon: No obvious traps.
Amalric: wouldnt be traps if they were obvious
Amalric: maybe Hakeem will take the lead?
Kjato Ragfoot: Is the large stalagmite magic?
Smon: It doesn't radiate magic, but you can detect magic from behind it, the source of the glow.
Smon: Invocation you think.
10:47am 2015-5-10 chris107 Has entered the room
Amalric: just in time Chris
chris107: Are we all dead?
Amalric: not yet!
chris107: Yeah!
Amalric: we've followed the tunnels to a green glow at the back of a cave
Amalric: found a trap along the way
Amalric: the proper way
chris107:
Smon: They want Hakeem to go find the source of the green glow from behind a large stalagmite in a cave.
chris107: What happened to O with the brown stuff?
Smon: Fungus is dead, but the cultist escaped during the confusion.
chris107: Thanks
Smon: Hakeem ran in to save Os and the cultist legged it, knocking Tamara aside.
chris107: Hakeem will take his sword in two hands and using his barbarian sense stalk towards the glow
Amalric: we freed Os, which might not have been a good idea
Smon: Continuing on you came to a Y junction, took left fork towards lamplight ahead, but were diverted by green glow in cave to left.
chris107: Mr. T is in big trouble. We will have to watch he doesn't raise the whole place agin us.
Smon: Hakeem stalks towards the glow.
Smon: Rounding the stalagmite he sees the source - a glowing green stone inset low in the wall, about the size of a halfling's fist.
Smon: /roll d20+2
Smon rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 44, (+2) = 6
Kjato Ragfoot: Be careful, that stone is magic.
Smon: Hakeem does not see the great red eye open in the stalagmite, nor the tentacles unfurl...
Smon: The Roper strikes.
chris107:
Smon: 4 tentacles:
chris107: AC 16
Smon: /roll d20+7x4
Smon Rolls 1d20+7x4 and gets:
8 (+7) = 15
5 (+7) = 12
3 (+7) = 10
6 (+7) = 13
chris107:
chris107: This makes Hakeem very cross indeed
chris107:
Amalric: lucky
Smon: Hakeem fends off the tentacles. It lunges at him, great maw opening to reveal enormous teeth...
Smon: /roll d20+7
Smon rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 1818, (+7) = 25
Smon: chomp
Amalric: unlucky
Smon: /roll 4d8+4
Smon rolls 4d8+4 and gets: 88, 55, 11, 22, (+4) = 20
chris107: Ouch!
Smon: 20 dmg pre-rage
Amalric: run away?
Smon: Malenn: "Hakeem!"
Amalric: ropers are a bugger
Kjato Ragfoot: Shoot it from afar?
Smon: ok group init, PCs first:
Amalric: dont know them in 5e, but they're nasty in every other version!
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 66,
Smon: roper:
chris107: H will rage at first opportunity and berserk afterwards
Smon: /roll d20-1
Smon rolls 1d20-1 and gets: 11, (-1) = 0
Smon: heh
chris107:
Smon: ok you all win
Smon: lucky!
chris107: Hackety hack-hack
Smon: Hakeem RAGES
chris107 Rolls 1d20+6x2 and gets:
16 (+6) = 22
20 (+6) = 26
Smon: can roll to hit AC 20
Smon: 2 hit then
Smon: 1 crit
chris107 rolls 6d6+10 and gets: 22, 22, 55, 33, 44, 33, (+10) = 29
Smon: crunch. Its shell is damaged, ichor oozes. It looks angry.
chris107: Hakeem looks livid!
Amalric: damn, guess we're fighting then
Amalric rolls 2d20 and gets: 1010, 1010, = 20
Smon: Who is shooting, who is heroically charging in?
Amalric: running away seems a better option in hindsight
Amalric:
chris107: Berserk this round Graham
Kjato Ragfoot: Can I shoot it without endangering anyone else?
Smon: Yes, it's 10' high
chris107: with init he will reckless attack if he gets chance
chris107: 44/71HP by the way.
Smon: Rey charges in and pokes ineffectually at its iron-hard hide.
Smon: Malenn charges in too, ready to smite.
Smon: /roll d20+5x2
Smon Rolls 1d20+5x2 and gets:
13 (+5) = 18
15 (+5) = 20
Smon: 1 hit!
chris107:
Smon: *BANG* she smites
chris107: Malenn is a wonder
Smon: /roll 3d8+4
Smon rolls 3d8+4 and gets: 55, 44, 11, (+4) = 14
chris107: No wonder Hakeem likes her.
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf will shoot his crossbow at the roper.
Smon: Os can shoot at -2 for the others giving some cover to roper:
Smon: /roll d20+5
Kjato Ragfoot rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 77, (+5) = 12
Smon rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 66, (+5) = 11
chris107: (Is Os at lunch?)
Smon: you both miss
Smon: (dinner)
chris107: (Ah)
Smon: Roper turn 1-3 Hakeem 4-6 Malenn
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 55,
chris107:
Smon: It turns on Malenn, 2 tentacles first:
chris107: Poor Malenn!
Smon: /roll d20+7x2
Smon Rolls 1d20+7x2 and gets:
5 (+7) = 12
1 (+7) = 8
Smon: she fends them off.
Smon: It lunges at her
Smon: /roll d20+7
Smon rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 1111, (+7) = 18
Smon: *chomp*
chris107: Grrrrr!
Smon: /roll 4d8+4
Smon rolls 4d8+4 and gets: 55, 44, 22, 88, (+4) = 23
chris107: "Malenn!"
Smon: 52-23=29
Smon: Malenn: "ahh!"
chris107: Berserk Hakeem recklessly attacks the horror!
Smon: 2 more tentacles try to grab & restrain Hakeem & Rey...
Smon: /roll d20+7
Smon rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 1111, (+7) = 18
Smon: /roll d20+7
Smon rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 1818, (+7) = 25
Smon: You are both grabbed, grappled & restrained, disad on str rolls, your attacks have disad, its have advtg on you
Amalric: ouch
Smon: disad on dex rolls too
chris107: so my reckless will foil that?
Smon: your goes, Hakeem can Reckless attack to cancel the disad yup
chris107: The attacks that is?
chris107: Cool
chris107 Rolls 1d20+6x2 and gets:
2 (+6) = 8
4 (+6) = 10
chris107 Rolls 1d20+6x2 and gets:
6 (+6) = 12
10 (+6) = 16
Smon: uh, you don't have advtg
chris107 Rolls 1d20+6x2 and gets:
16 (+6) = 22
2 (+6) = 8
chris107 rolls 2d6+5 and gets: 66, 55, (+5) = 16
Smon: using just the first rolls you hit anyway though
chris107: Oops
chris107:
Smon: your advtg is cancelled by the disad
chris107: Another 16 of the vile thing
*boredom3031 shuffles through the doorway of the idle Zombie chamber.*
chris107: Yeah sorry not thinking
Smon: It's bleeding a lot now
Smon: Malenn attacks:
11:07am 2015-5-10 boredom3031 Has exited the room
Smon: /roll 1d20+5x2
Smon Rolls 1d20+5x2 and gets:
14 (+5) = 19
19 (+5) = 24
chris107: You little belter!
Smon: 1 hit, BANG she smites the Roper again...
Smon: /roll 3d8+4
Smon rolls 3d8+4 and gets: 33, 77, 55, (+4) = 19
chris107:
Smon: wow
Smon: It's in a bad way.
chris107: Good
Smon: Rey can attack, but at disad - roll twice, take worse each attack
chris107: Finish it Rey
Smon: Os shoots:
Smon: /roll d20+5
Smon rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 1616, (+5) = 21
Smon: hit!
chris107:
chris107: Go Os!
Smon: /roll d8+4
chris107: Action surge?
Smon rolls 1d8+4 and gets: 77, (+4) = 11
Smon: 11 dmg
Smon: he already surged
chris107: Nice arrow!
chris107: Ah okay
Smon: It's close to death...
Smon: Bjornalf?
chris107: I'm a bit over eager
Amalric: just got a cuppa
Kjato Ragfoot: Poison spray on roper.
Smon: Roper DEX save is -1...
Smon: /roll d20-1
Amalric rolls 4d20 and gets: 1818, 1717, 33, 22, = 40
Smon rolls 1d20-1 and gets: 1111, (-1) = 10
Amalric: Rey hits with the rapier!
Amalric rolls 1d8+4 and gets: 88, (+4) = 12
Amalric rolls 3d6 and gets: 55, 66, 44, = 15
Smon: looks like Rey hit!
chris107: Yeah Rey!
chris107:
Smon: Rey does 27 while Bjornalf melts it with acid...
Amalric: only 27hp damage
Kjato Ragfoot: (Poison Spray is a CON save, not DEX)
Smon: Rey's rapier plunges deep into its eyes, it shudders & dies
Smon: (oh, thx +3 then)
chris107: Hakeem goes to make sure Malenn is okay.
Smon: The tentacles go limp.
Amalric: "Take that, Stone Face!"
Smon: Malenn: "ugh... nasty."
Smon: She touches herself.
chris107: A foul creature indeed.
Smon: 19 back for Malenn, at 48
Smon: Malenn: "I'm ok..."
Amalric: Rey slices and cuts at the roper looking for loot
Amalric: shoves it over and looks underneath
chris107: H at 2 rages, 1 berserk and 44/71HP
Kjato Ragfoot: Bjornalf will take a closer look at the stone.
Smon: You'll need an axe or similar to break the Roper open.
chris107: H ravishes Malenn with enthusiasm to help her recovery
Smon: Os has one
chris107: Os has on
chris107: beat me to it Simon
Smon: Malenn kisses Hakeem back fiercely, glad they're both alive.
Kjato Ragfoot: Tamara has a war pick?
Smon: Tamara hands Bjornalf the war pick.
Amalric: "Bash away with the axe, Hakeem?"
Smon: Its enchanted tip and Rey w axe break open the beast. Foul entrails pour out.
chris107: Whilst the hacking and ravishing go on does it count as a short rest? (Healing Dice?)
Smon: (no)
Smon: About 8 minutes so far
chris107: "Sorry Rey too busy ravishing here!"
Amalric: "Can't knock a man for that, can I?!"
Amalric:
Smon: Bjornalf - the glowing green stone is an energy crystal.
Kjato Ragfoot: Hmm. What do energy crystals do?
Smon: Used carefully it could be used to superempower a spell, before being exhausted.
Smon: If not removed carefully though it could explode...
chris107: That sounds useful Bjo
Amalric: Rey pokes around in Roper entrails - with Os's axe
Smon: It could also be thrown violently against a hard surface as a grenade to explode it.
Smon: Rey sees several small jade stones glisten amidst the muck.
Smon: 7 pieces of jade v 25gp each
Amalric: jade v?
Amalric: nice haul though
Smon: Removing the crystal would be a DEX roll, sleight of hand would apply so REy would get bonus, as would a miner.
Amalric: what do I need to roll?
Kjato Ragfoot: Hmm. In that case, Rey should try to remove it. Bjornalf will support him.
Amalric: (Rey mutters some prayers)
Smon: d20+7 for Rey
Amalric rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 1414, (+7) = 21
chris107: Hak will continue his ravishing
Amalric: that'll do
Smon: Rey easily dislodges the glowing crystal.
chris107:
chris107: Nice one.
Smon: @Bjornalf - when holding it you can cast 1 spell as if in a slot 2 levels higher.
Kjato Ragfoot: Ah. I want use that to cast a shatter onto something and see things explode.
Amalric: he hands it (carefully) to Bjornalf
chris107: hehe nice one Kjato!
Smon: Or it can be thrown vs a hard surface for 3d8 dmg 15'r (save dex dc 13 for half)
chris107: OOC - That Roper was nasty. Lucky we had some good rolls and it didn't
Smon: Yeah, well done
Smon: It's a very nasty CR 5
Smon: Think I'll give extra XP.
Kjato Ragfoot: A sleep with 11d8 put to slumber would be cool as well. Hmm.
Amalric: yes, nicely done. Like I said, ropers are nasty
Smon: Need to stop shortly. Do you want to stay here another 30 mins to complete a Short Rest?
Amalric: i assume Bjornalf can use it once/day? so he could choose which spell to use it on daily?
chris107: They're bad enough in 1e but with that disadvantage on attacks etc just downright nasty in 5.
Amalric: sure
Smon: no, it's a 1-shot
Kjato Ragfoot: I understood I can only use it once and then it burns out.
Smon: yup
Amalric: ah, okay
Amalric: still nice, and might need it down here!
chris107: Sure a few HP back would really help. However if Mr. T. has raised the alarm?...
Smon: All is silent right now. You rest in the cave, watching the entrance
Smon: ?
Smon: Listening for cultists?
chris107: yes
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 55,
chris107: my vote anyway
Kjato Ragfoot: Short rest is good, as I am out of spells.
Smon: ok, you complete your short rest unmolested
Smon: we'll stop there, you can spend healing dice Hak
Smon: Malenn spends 1, binding her wound.
chris107 rolls 2d12+8 and gets: 1010, 22, (+8) = 20
Smon: /roll d8+2
Smon rolls 1d8+2 and gets: 11, (+2) = 3
Smon: she's 51/52
chris107: 64/71HP
chris107: 1 Bers, 2 Rages and 2 Healing dice spent.
Smon: ok
Smon: I'll post log, see some of you on Friday.
Smon: Thanks for fun game, well done not dying to Roper.
chris107: Glad I managed to get back in time
Smon: yep :)
