Smon: GM: Sarene's crew lower the small six-man boat overboard. Thuruar, Hakeem & Rey can accompany Sarene and two Chosen Axemen to shore.
Kjato Ragfoot: Well. There is no point for staying aboard. Hey ho, of to the dungeon we go!
chris107: H's eyes drink in the scene. Watching out for lurkers.
Smon: GM: The Axemen expertly row your boat into the dark cavern in the cliff face.
Smon: In the moonlight reflected off the water behind you, you dimly make out an old stone wharf, three small fortified towers jutting out from it into the water, between which are set two docking bays with steps up from the water to the quayside.

chris107: Any signs of life, other boats?
Smon: In the east bay the wreck of a barge lies rotting, while west (your right) from the western tower a bridge spans the mouth of a small underground river opening into the bay.
chris107: Can we get under the bridge?
Smon: Yes, at least 20' clearance.
chris107: Under the bridge then or 'park' up over the wreck?
Smon: Sarene glances at Hakeem. "I've been here once before - we were attacked by stirges, and lizardmen... didn't stay long."

Smon: The west bay is clear, or you can dock in the east bay by the wreck.
chris107: Ah okay.
Smon: Or you can take the boat upriver,
Smon: Sarene: "Any of you boys got a light?"

Kjato Ragfoot: We know there is danger at the easy bay. Let's start there, we will be better prepared for whatever is to come.

Smon: As the boat nears the bays you see the steps up to the quayside are littered with rubble and masonry. The bottom 2' or so of the steps is covered with green weed and slime.
chris107: H will get ashore as soon as he may once we have docked in the West bay.
Kjato Ragfoot: Where Athena's disciples walk, her light of wisdom shines.
chris107: Could H leep ashore above the slime?
Amalric: "Watch your step lads, and lasses!"
Smon: Thuruar's light shines forth. The axemen row for the east bay, coming in beside the rotting barge. Inside you see a broken bier and a human skeleton.
Amalric: is the skeleton moving?
Smon: Hakeem could leap mightily out of his boat, but might capsize it...

Smon: The rear half of the barge is submerged, the end touching the bottom 5' deep here.
Kjato Ragfoot: We could try to climb the barge to get past the slime and weed?
Smon: In Thuruar's light you see a rusted metal chest in the barge, beneath the water, a rusty shield & dagger.

Smon: The barge looks pretty unstable compared to just trying to climb from your boat onto the steps.

Smon: Sarene throws Hakeem the end of a rope as he finishes prising the head off. "Go up to the quayside and tie us off."

Smon: Clambering over the rubble, Hakeem moves up the steps to the ancient quayside and ties the boat off at ring jutting from the wall.
Smon: You can now all exit safely...

Smon: Sarene nods to her men. "You two guard the boat. Just scream if anything eats you."

Smon: It's too dim for Hakeem to see much until Thuruar gets up with the light.
Smon: Is Rey brandishing his light dagger?

Smon: Once Rey, Thuruar & Sarene get up the steps, you get a clearer view of the quayside.
Smon: It runs maybe 150' from the bridge over the river at the west end, to double doors set in the east cavern wall, they look slightly ajar. A second set of ornate doors is set in the centre of the south wall.
Smon: Each of the small towers is open at the 'back', with steps running up to a defensive parapet.

Smon: Rey Investigates... there are definitely footsteps as if someone has recently passed east along the quayside, from the bridge towards the eastern doors.
Smon: Looks like a small group of men, booted.

Smon: The central (south) doors are arched and 20' high, covered in carvings depicting intertwined skeletons framing a large flame. Four thick metal bars stretch across the front of the doors, the ends built into the walls on either side.

Smon: The lowest bar is 3' off the ground; the doors are shackled to the bars by a dozen or more chains and padlocks.
Smon: The chains look badly corroded.
chris107: H attempts to break the corroded chains
Smon: The chain is still very large... DC 22 Athletics check.

Smon: Hakeem strains mightily, but cannot break the huge chain.
Kjato Ragfoot: Rey, you could try to open the locks.
Smon: The highest lock is 17' up.
Kjato Ragfoot: Or perhaps there is another way in? Did the tracks you found go through this door?

Smon: The locks look badly corroded.
chris107: The doors to the east are open?
Smon: No the tracks went east to the eastern doors, which are 2' ajar.
chris107: Rey want to creep up?
Kjato Ragfoot: Do we simply take the other door or hack this one open?
chris107: Lets at least look at the open doors
chris107: H will creep up of Rey is too busy
Smon: Approaching the east doors, you see a 3' wide worn groove across the stone floor just before the steps.
chris107: Sneak up to the doors that stand ajar. He will listen and peek in.
Smon: The groove is an inch or so deep, cut into the stone.
Smon: Hakeem steps onto the groove?
chris107: Strange
chris107: Over it?
Smon: Stepping over it you'll have to step through the doors.
chris107: Then he will wait for our rogue to come back.
chris107: Unless Thur wants to light the way?
Kjato Ragfoot: We could take a plant from the barge to get over the groove?
Smon: The 3' wide groove can be stepped over with a long stride.
chris107: With light Hakeem is happy to enter the room.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 8,
Kjato Ragfoot: Sure. Thuruar will follow Hakeem.
Smon: As Thuruar approaches, his light reveals that in the ceiling 20' above is a dark 3' wide crack corresponding with the groove in the floor below.
chris107: Once we have light, H will sneak into the room.
Kjato Ragfoot: Hmm. Suspicious.
chris107: Mmmmm like for a falling gate?
Smon: Hakeem steps over the groove and through the gap in the doors, into a large darkened chamber.
Smon: There is an echoing sound, like wind whistling through trees - perhaps it comes from the broad tunnel leading SE out of the chamber's E wall.
Smon: There are double doors on north & south walls, and bodies lying on the floor, humanoid, they look long dead.
chris107: H looks around carfully, including the ceiling then enters
Smon: They seem undamaged. Two look like withered corpses, the third is similar but has a ghoulish look, curled & bent with elongated fangs and nails turned to talons, like the ghouls Hakeem fought in Dyson's Delve.
chris107: To look at the long dead bodies
Kjato Ragfoot: Thurar will follow Hakeem if he is not evaporated by some mean trap.
Smon: The ceiling is 20' above, arched against the weight of stone.
chris107: H takes the head off the ghoul looking corpse
Smon: Thuruar follows Hakeem in,

Smon: Hakeem's blade descends, he hacks off the corpse-head, it rolls a few feet.

Smon: Rey heads back onto the quayside, Sarene saunters along beside him. "Just keeping you safe, lover boy..." she grins.

Smon: Rey hears the flutter of stirges overhead - Sarene holds a torch aloft, revealing a pair of the nasty brutes fluttering above you.

Smon: Hakeem & Thuruar hear faint sounds through the south door of the big chamber - goblin voices!

Kjato Ragfoot: They probably sent their best troops.
Kjato Ragfoot: We should assume more of them crawling around.
Smon: "Then have they found it? Was this just a scouting party?"
Amalric: "I noticed the hard way. Poor form on my part, going down to a rival."
Kjato Ragfoot: Well, it is to late to ask them now.
chris107: "I hope we will meet more of them searching about. We need to give the Nerathi a bloody nose."
Smon: "You can't Speak with the Dead, Priest?"
Smon: Amdar the Wizard pops his head in. "Those fellows came in over the bridge, just a couple hours back."
Kjato Ragfoot: I could, but would need time to prepare to conjure his shadow.
Smon: Amdar scratches his nose. "Hm. Wonder where Odo's gone. Perhaps you should look for her."
chris107: "Amdar, have others come too?"
Smon: Sarene shrugs. "Just a thought - take that one's head along, talk to him later?"
chris107: H searches the rooms where the goblins and the Nerathi came from.
Smon: Amdar shakes his head. "Occasional trouble with Goblins - but no, these are the first Nerathi I've seen here. Nasty fellows."
chris107: "The assassins head will likely know more?"
chris107: He shrugs.
chris107: "Thank you."
Smon: GM: I'll stop there & do room searches tomorrow.
Kjato Ragfoot: I am not that in favour of carrying heads around, but we could do that.
chris107: Cool
