8:31am  2015-4-23 chris107 Has entered the room
chris107: Hi again
Smon: Hello
chris107: Anyone else expected?
Smon: We may be the only ones today, no Graham or Kjato.
chris107:
chris107: Thank Heavens for Malenn then!
8:33am  2015-4-23 atherton Has entered the room
Smon: Yeah you'll probably want some NPCs with you to go delving.
Smon: Hi ath!
chris107: Hey Athers
atherton: hi Chris, Simon
Smon: I have just raised start level to 3rd if you'd like to play a new PC?
atherton: I'll roll one real quick
atherton: 4d6?
Smon: Standard array, 15 14 13 12 10 8, humans by default get +1 everything.
atherton: hp?
chris107: I'll go hunt for my map while Dave sorts his character out.
Smon: HP is either high-average, or roll if you like. Assuming you have no rules knowledge I suggest one of the pregens at bottom of http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/the-ghinarian-hills-campaign-labyrinth.html
chris107: Found it
Smon: That's Fighter, Rogue or Barbarian, we can level them up to 3rd and you can change their equipment as desired. We can also change race from human if you like.
atherton: I'll go high average
atherton: chain mail, long bow, falchion and I'm ready
Smon: OK human Fighter with that gear?
atherton: yep
atherton: name Osgar, commonly known as Os
Smon: gimme a moment & I'll post him.
Smon: Posted - http://smons.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/pc-atherton-osgar-fighter-3.html
Smon: Note your ability to get an extra attack, suggest you use that at the start of a fight.
atherton: ok
atherton: I'm ready
atherton: I'm ready
atherton: I'm ready
atherton: I'm ready
chris107: me too
Smon: ok 2 mins
8:52am  2015-4-23 boredom3031 Has entered the room
chris107: Hi bore
atherton: Hi Zach
boredom3031: heya guys
boredom3031: How goes it?
atherton: no complaints here
chris107: Good thanks. You?
Smon: Hi boredom.
Smon: I'm about to start my 5e game.
boredom3031: Woke up coughing lungs up at 3AM but good otherwise.
chris107: Poor lungs. Go have another ciggie
boredom3031: cool smon, might check it out.
chris107: Dave we explored further into Thracia
boredom3031: already had a couple, chris.
atherton: lets go then!
Smon: You fancy playing Boredom?
chris107: Alas a horrid Wight killed Tor and we came close to a TPK
boredom3031: No thank you, I know nothing about 5e.
atherton: before those thieving beastmen beat us to our riches
chris107: We found a secret door and a Priest of Thanatos in stasis.
Smon: GM: It's a couple weeks since Hakeem & co returned from Thracia and Tor Caradoc's body was burned on a funeral pyre facing the distant mountains.
chris107: There is a further passage leading South from that room.
Smon: (atherton knows nothing either, Chris knows a wee bit now)
chris107: Oops
boredom3031:
atherton: Hakeem was obviously talking between drinks
Smon: The common room of the Redeye Inn is crammed this evening, for the 'merchant' Tsamar's two ships are docked at Selatine, showing some signs of recent battle damage.
Smon: Osgar, you want to be a pirate looking for some land-based adventure, or just a wanderer, or one of Lord Vex's warriors?
atherton: I'm just a humble longbowman
atherton: so one of Lord Vex's warriors
atherton: I might be a bit of a wanderer too
Smon: OK, Lord Vex has given you permission to assist Hakeem & co in subduing the Beastmen, also keep an eye on Hakeem & Malenn.
chris107:
Smon: You can be one of Vex's scouts, sent out to keep an eye out for raiders from the Vale.
atherton: "I'm no snitch Hakeem"
chris107: "I'm sure you are not."
atherton: "Lord Vex has dealt fairly with me, but its time to move on"
chris107: "We will have rich pickings today!"
atherton: "however we should be mindful of raider from the Vale"
Smon: So you know the area around Selatine well: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlyye5Qps6Hdz1qFStWiS5Urm8Jil6flnVNc4t1bXZU7noar3SrW8m_Z6wrUxaEdQLghJ-OkiSoQTqH4xX_zUsPaaeZOoGWWYvv8m_208UwnAutifKoKZdUYmu7z_4HM28lvVNdP-x3dE/s640/Selatine+Area.bmp
atherton: "I count myself an honourabel man after a fashion"
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 44,
atherton: "also a man given to poor spelling"
atherton: "should we have a contract to sign"
Smon: Morning after a night of drinking - there is a light rain falling, no thunder sadly for Hakeem.
chris107: "Nay! What we get we split into equal shares. We too have honour."
chris107: Bah!
atherton: "agreed"
Smon: Sleeping and half-asleep pirates are scattered around the common room, new girls Candice & Aole are clearing up the debris.
atherton: I spit on my palm and offer my hand to Hakeem
Smon: Malenn looks to Osgar, eating her porridge, and nods.
chris107: Hakeem shakes it heartily
Smon: Malenn: "We should be wary - there is great evil in Thracia."
atherton: "nothing that my bow can't handle good lady"
atherton: (Osgar was brought up to be polite)
chris107: "Come Lady Malenn, we triumphed over the Death God's creature didn't we?"
chris107: "Now we can go loot his treasury without the sticky fingered rougue Rey stealing the best bits!"
Smon: Malenn nods, smiling.
atherton: "then let us do, dire deeds and gold awaits us surely!"
atherton: go*
Smon: GM: You finish your breakfast, Serani clears the plates, and you gird on your weapons for the expedition.
chris107: Hakeem laughs aloud at the thought of spiting Thanatos again
Smon: I'll say you have torches with flint & steel, Malenn wraps them against the rain.
Smon: There are frequent wall-sconces in the Thracian undercity, and Hakeem & Osgar can each carry a torch in one hand, their preferred weapon in the other.
chris107: Okay
Smon: OOC ath I gave you spec in falchion, would you prefer to be longbow specialised though?
atherton: yes, I'm a longbowman
atherton: the falchion is just backup
Smon: OK, I'll say you are a Tharbrian and thus carry the mighty Tharbrian yew bow (uses STR bonus on attack/dmg), bow spec gives +2 to hit.
Smon: lemme edit...
atherton: (I was imagining myself more of a Yorkshireman Chris  )
atherton: but a yew bow sounds good
chris107:
chris107: I'll send you a flat cap Dave.
atherton: I'm wearing a mail coif, so the flat cap will come in handy
Smon: Yorkshireman - you can be a Tharbo-Skand like Malenn.
Smon: From Pazidan's rocky northern coasts - it's grim up north...
Smon: But now here you are down in the sunny south with all these underdressed folk.
chris107: It's rather beautiful up north today. Thinking of taking the computer out onto the pation
atherton: not Osgar, he will be wearing his favourite trews just like he has for the past decade
Smon: Never cast a clout till the 5th Millenium be out!
chris107: Wise words indeed.
atherton: "let us be away good Hakeem!"
Smon: The warm rain is falling, soaking you all, as you leave Selatine by the western gate, taking the well-trod road south of the Selatine river as you head towards Thracia.
atherton: "my fingers itch to draw my bow"
Smon: Osgar keeps his bowstring furled & dry, lest the rain make it unusable.
atherton: "rain, it is a favourable omen Hakeem, surely we shall be blessed today"
Smon: The land under the rains is lush and green, the sky the colour of lead.
chris107: Hakeem warns Os about the sneaky beastman guards.
atherton: "oh oops, forgot my bow string"
chris107: And tells him of the wonders they have found below ancient Thracia.
Smon: Nearing the forests west of Thracia, Hakeem sees the shepherdesses Aya & Vatta on a grassy knoll (not gnoll) aways off.
Smon: They wave, while Max the shep-hound bounds over, tail wagging happily.
chris107: he waves cordially and shouts for Max
Smon: Max comes up for some petting.
chris107: "More coin Aya?"
Smon: Malenn ruffles the great beast's fur.
chris107: Hakeem makes a fuss of the hound and feeds him sausage from his rations.
Smon: Aya shakes her head, calls back: "I'm rich now! No need to risk death today! But good luck!"
Smon: Bidding them farewell, you enter the damp dark woods...
chris107: "You are wise beyond your years Aya!"
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 33,
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 1010,
Smon: Hakeem navigates the group through the forest until you see the ruins ahead, a bit after noon.
Smon: You leave the tree cover by the old ruined palace, heading for the entrance you've taken before.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 44,
Smon: No sign of life.
Smon: /roll d6
chris107: "Look out for lizardmen in that pool too." he points.
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 55,
atherton: Osgar re-strings his bow
Smon: The rain eases off, sunlight breaks through the clouds.
Smon: (lucky for Osgar!)
chris107: Once down the steps and into the entrance hall Hakeem will light the torch.
Smon: (using d6s for the rainy season weather: 1 is lightning storm, 6 is clear day)
atherton: I'll creep along beside Hakeem, arrow notched
chris107: He will lead the way and look at our recovered secret doors.
Smon: You descend into the guano-stinking entry hall, Hakeem lights a torch. Osgar moves beside Hakeem, Malenn behind with sword and shield.
Smon: You head right/east from the entry hall, the passage turns north and you reach the door to the Chapel of Death.
chris107: "Malenn do you still sense a great evil here?"
Smon: The door opens easy enough, revealing the pitch blackness beyond.
atherton: "Hakeem, give me your torch should we be enagaged in melee, I can swing my falchion one handed"
chris107: We press on through the magical darkness and into the chapel.
Smon: Malenn focuses. "It is lesser now... more dormant. Perhaps we have defeated some of Thanatos' works..."
chris107: Hakeem passes the torch and grips his greatsword tightly.
atherton: where is the chapel from the entry chamber?
chris107: 30' East through magical darkness
chris107: (According to my map at least  )
atherton: ok we head east and then?
Smon: Yes, The Dark tunnel is narrow, you will need to go single file.
chris107: Hakeem, Os then Malenn?
Smon: Groping in darkness.
Smon: ok
atherton: I'll follow Hakeem
Smon: Malenn sheathes her sword and holds on to Os's belt as you enter the zone of Darkness, suddenly blind.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 44,
chris107: Hakeem pokes ahead with his sword
Smon: After 30' you come out into the black-draped chapel.
atherton: "oops sorry Hakeem, didn't mean to kick you in the heel"
chris107: To the south
chris107: We resecured the secret door
Smon: It does not seem to have been disturbed since your last visit, the shattered corpses of the long-dead supplicants remain strewn where they fell.
chris107: the trap had been sprung
Smon: Two obvious doors lead off behind the drapes, north & south, but Hakeem goes to the SE corner.
atherton: "do we enter the chapel?"
Smon: Malenn nods to Osgar.
atherton: I warily study the room, but go to the south east corner to cover Hakeem
Smon: Malenn Hakeem & Osgar go to the SE corner. Hakeem unlocks the door?
chris107: He does. Making sure the trap has no evidence of resetting.
Smon: /roll d20
chris107: And ready to dodge
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 1717,
atherton: I cover the door with my bow
Smon: Hakeem looks up, there is a small hole high above the door, in the ceiling. No sign of reset but hard to be sure.
Smon: Hakeem unlocks the door - there is a click, but no spear flies down.
chris107: Making sure he is not in it's line of fire, just in case. He continues.
chris107: He heads south
atherton: I follow closely on Hakeem's heels
Smon: South beyond the door the narrow passage runs to the Stasis chamber where Hakeem & co captured Macreus.
atherton: being careful not to tread on them this time
Smon: Bones of shattered skeletal guards lie scattered.
chris107: "There's a further exit opposite Os. Keep your bow up."
Smon: /roll d20+3
Smon rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 55, (+3) = 8
atherton: "ok Hakeem, will do"
Smon: You head south from the Curate's vault.
atherton: I cross to the opposite exit
chris107: Yes, cautiously
chris107: But with sword en-guard.
Smon: /roll d6x3
Smon Rolls 1d6x3 and gets:
44 = 4
55 = 5
11 = 1
atherton: ok I cross cautiously
chris107:
Smon: You head down the tunnel, but have not gone far when there is a sudden yelp from Malenn at the rear of your band!
chris107: .....
atherton: swing around, bow aimed
chris107: Hakeem risks a look over his shoulder but continues to guard the passageway ahead.
Smon: Whirling, you see that the ground has given way beneath her and she is now lying in a 5' deep pit, atop a large rope ladder, tightly folded.
Smon: Malenn picks herself up, looking slightly embarrassed.
atherton: "are you ok Malenn/"
chris107: "How strange. A ladder to nowhere? That doesn't seem right."
atherton: is the ladder attached to anything?
chris107: "Malenn, while you're down there see if there are any further secret exits."
atherton: I examine the floor of the pit, does it look false?
Smon: The rope ladder is made of what looks like silk. Malenn & you can inspect it. Some 50' long, at one end of it are two smooth balls of grey stone.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 1717,
Smon: You inspect the pit, no sign of false bottoms or secret exits.
atherton: "look like that could come in useful"
atherton: can we cut the rope ladder free?
chris107: "A silk ladder like that could be very useful. I say we take it along."
Smon: There was a kind of flap over it, well concealed, that gave way as Malenn stepped on it.
Smon: (ooc rolled really low on search roll to notice pit)
Smon: Malenn picks up the ladder, it doesn't seem attached to anything. She hands it up to you, you can haul it out as she climbs up.
atherton: I assist Malenn from the pit
Smon: "Thanks Os"
chris107:
chris107: Hakeem presses on. More wary still now.
atherton: ok I stuff the ladder into my pack, dust Maleen down
atherton: and then follow on Hakeem's heels
Smon: It's too big to stuff into pack, you'll need two hands to carry it.
Smon: Malenn: "I can hold the torch while you carry it?"
chris107: (Maybe put it safe until we need it?
atherton: ok, I put my long bow over my shoulder and carry it then
Smon: You proceed, Os now burdened by the weight.
atherton: "well lets seem where this corridor takes us Hakeem"
atherton: "if we find a door I'll set it down"
chris107: Hakeem presses onwards.
chris107: expecting danger at every step.
Smon: 80' past the pit, the tunnel appears to end at a completely smooth grey wall.
Smon: There are two round indentations just before the end wall, spaced to fit the ladder balls.
atherton: ok I put the ladder down, and fish my ... no I don't
chris107: Hakeem inspects the walls for...
chris107: hehe exactly what I was looking for
atherton: I place the balls of the ladder into the indentations
chris107: Hakeem steps well away
Smon: Os puts his balls in the indentations - the balls suddenly seem slightly warm.
atherton: I look worriedly at Hakeem backing away
Smon: They seem to have fused into the indents.
atherton: I run!
chris107: "Magic." Scowls the superstitious barbarian.
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 66,
atherton: I grab Hakeem and Malenn and drag them a safe distance down the tunnel
Smon: Hakeem backs away - his right elbow suddenly passes through the wall behind him at south end of tunnel, meeting no resistance.
chris107: Ahhhh
Smon: Os tries to grab Malenn, who is nearest: "Get off me!" she says.
chris107: 5 mins please guys. Delivery at the door.
Smon: Is Os fleeing back north?
Smon: ok
atherton: confused, I straggle a fee steps down the corridor
atherton: a few*
atherton: I guess I return to study the miracle of Hakeem's arm going through the wall
Smon: Osgar rejoins Malenn & Hakeem, at the wall. Malenn pokes it with her sword - the blade goes through, meeting no resistance.
Smon: "An illusion!"
atherton: I'm feel around the wall, particualry along the floor, ceiling intersections
Smon: The wall appears to be an illusion, with a void behind.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 99,
Smon: It feels as if the floor falls away just past the 'wall'.
atherton: ok I'll probe with my sword, trying to establish the size of the void behind?
Smon: Bigger than your sword.
9:54am  2015-4-23 boredom3031 Has exited the room
atherton: "hmm pit on the other side Hakeem"
atherton: I try for side walls and the roof
chris107: Sorry about that. My groceries arrived
Smon: same - it opens up into a large space above and below and to the sides.
atherton: "we have a pit Hakeem, that explains the need for a rope ladder"
chris107: Does the ladder now seem firmly anchored?
Smon: yes
9:56am  2015-4-23 boredom3031 Has entered the room
chris107: Let the thing down then
atherton: "let throw it through then"
Smon: Malenn: "We throw the end of the ladder through the illusion..." she nods.
chris107: Hakeem sheaths his blade and torch in one hand sets off down the ladder.
Smon: Os casts the ladder through the wall, nearly all of it vanishes from sight, leaving just the few feet leading to the anchor points.
Smon: Hakeem starts to climb down, holding a torch - not easy!
atherton: I take the torch from Hakeem and cautiously thrust my head through to the other side
atherton: wouldn't want to be picked off by gnollish archers
atherton: I do that before Hakeem descends!
Smon: As Hakeem passes through the illusion he enters a vast chasm, in the far distance across the cavern Hakeem & Os can just make out a rope bridge crossing the chasm, but no sign of life on it.
atherton: ok
chris107: In which direction?
atherton: shoulder my bow and follow Hakeem down
Smon: You are at the NE end of a cavernous chasm that broadens to about 50' wide and runs SW, the rope bridge maybe 60' off. A spur of rock hides the e end of the bridge, faint red light comes from a tunnel at the w end of the bridge.
Smon: /roll d20
atherton: any way up to the bridge?
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 1919,
atherton: how high is it above the floor we're standing on?
Smon: No way to the bridge. About 20' west from you at your level is another tunnel entrance in the northern wall of the chasm.
Smon: You look down...
atherton: "we're probably safe from traps down here Hakeem, but not from ambush"
10:03am  2015-4-23 boredom3031 Has exited the room
Smon: You can make out the glitter of water about 40' below.
Smon: A bridge spans a small river, the rope ladder runs down the wall to a point just north of the bridge.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 1515,
chris107: Mmmmm that's got my map in a real state!
Smon: In the torchlight you can make out an exit from the base of the cavern in the south wall, it looks like worked stone steps leading upward.
atherton: "down or north Hakeem, that is the question"
chris107: "The Northern tunnel?"
atherton: "well its on our level"
atherton: "we might want to clear out the upper levels first"
chris107: As good a place as any to start.
atherton: and on that note, summoned to dinner
atherton: back as soon as I can chomp it down
chris107: Okay
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 33,
Smon: All seems quiet...
chris107: Hakeem presses on up the north tunnel. Sword now drawn.
Smon: ?
chris107: The northern tunnel on our level?
Smon: You could: descend the ladder. Return north the way you came. Try to work your way across the cavern wall to the tunnel on your level - there is no ledge.
Smon: There's a very good chance of falling 40-50'.
chris107: Ah okay, sorry didn't get that bit.
chris107: He will work his way down and head for the worked stone stairs to the south then.
Smon: Climbing down the ladder holding torch will be DC 7 DEX check not to fall.
Smon: Hakeem gets +4 on check (+2 DEX, +2 prof). OK?
chris107 rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 1212, (+4) = 16
chris107: (Is he now +3 prof at 4th level?)
Smon: Hakeem descends with catlike grace, a minute later he stands at the west end of a large underground river, it enters a cleft in the rock just to the east, past the bridge.
Smon: Now Hakeem can see another tunnel in the north wall of the cavern, opposite the bridge and the stairs in the south wall.
chris107: My map is a mess.
Smon: You are on level 2 now.
Smon: They don't call it "Jaquaying" for nothing!
chris107:
chris107: He will gesture for the others to come down.
Smon: Hakeem stands at the base of the ladder, just west of the north tunnel exit.
Smon: There is a narrow shelf of rock leading west along the north riverbank. The south shore is wider, about 20'.
chris107: He peers down the tunnel. Torch in one hand sword in the other.
chris107: Hehe no wiser with that.
Smon: As the others start descending with weapons slung/sheathed, Hakeem looks down the n tunnel. 10' or so wide it runs straight north into darkness.
Smon: /roll d20+1
Smon rolls 1d20+1 and gets: 99, (+1) = 10
Smon: your prof goes to +3 at 5th.
Smon: Hakeem hears movement behind him, from the bridge, over the sound of the flowing water.
chris107: (Thanks)
Smon: An enormous hunched and heavily bearded figure is emerging from under the bridge, glaring at him!
chris107: He turns to look. Trying to find cover
Smon: No obvious cover.
chris107: (This doesn't sound good  )
Smon: "Who dares disturb Grastic?!" bellows the great brute.
chris107: Then he finds somewhere to stick the torch safely and gets his sword ready.
chris107: "Ha Grastic go back to sleep. For Hakeem is here and will be your doom!"
Smon: It looks ancient, long white beard, hunched and gnarled. Hakeem spots a wall sconce just inside the n passage, sets his torch.
Smon: "Doom?!"
Smon: ok CHA check, roll d20
chris107: "I. I shall send you to an eternal sleep if you don't bugger off!"
chris107 rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 22, (+3) = 5
Smon: Massive fail.
chris107: Oops
chris107: (Hurry chaps!)
Smon: Grastic roars, rising to his full height, 10' or so, and raising a heavy club... roll init
chris107: This makes Hakeem very cross indeed.
Smon: /roll d20-1
chris107: He rages at the beast.
Smon rolls 1d20-1 and gets: 1010, (-1) = 9
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 1717, (+2) = 19
chris107: And will go berserk next round.
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 55, (+5) = 10
Smon: Grastic is wearing weird patchwork clothes sewn into coveralls and a longsleeve shirt, North type attire.
Smon: Hakeem moves forward, stabs - AC 10, hit!
chris107:
chris107 rolls 2d6+5 and gets: 55, 33, (+5) = 13
Smon: The wounded monster swings his club:
Smon: /roll d20+6
Smon rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 1414, (+6) = 20
Smon: hit
chris107: AC16 now
Smon: /roll 2d8+4
Smon rolls 2d8+4 and gets: 44, 55, (+4) = 13
Smon: 13/2=6 dmg
chris107: halved?
chris107: 43/49HP
Smon: Osgar & Malenn are climbing down in the dim light. They'll be a few rounds...
chris107: Hakeem goes into a frenzy
chris107: 2 attacks while berserk?
Smon: yup
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 88, (+5) = 13
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 88, (+5) = 13
Smon: 2 hits
chris107 rolls 4d6+10 and gets: 55, 11, 44, 11, (+10) = 21
Smon: Hakeem hacks...
Smon: Grastic whimpers as the blows rain down and blood flows.
Smon: He breaks off (Disengage) and flees back into the water, under the bridge.
Smon: "Go away! Leave me alone!"
chris107: Hakeem chases him. He's in a berserk d
chris107: frenzy after all
Smon: Hakeem chases him into the water - swim check is STR, d20+5, DC 8
chris107 rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 1313, (+5) = 18
Smon: Hakeem comes out of the river on the far side, under the bridge, where Grastic is grabbing a fishing spear... roll init again.
Smon: /roll d20-1
Smon rolls 1d20-1 and gets: 1515, (-1) = 14
chris107 rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 1515, (+2) = 17
Smon: Hakeem is on him before he can ready the spear.

Smon: Hakeem hears Malenn calling out for him from the north side of the bridge, as his greatsword buries itself into Grastic's belly.
Smon: roll 2d6+5
chris107: The berserk Barbarian pays no attention and continues hacking away.
chris107 rolls 2d6+5 and gets: 55, 11, (+5) = 11
Smon: Grastic chokes as the sword pierces up into his vitals. The brute rolls over, dead.
chris107: Hakeem hacks his head from his body and raises the grizzly trophy on high.
chris107: "I told you to bugger off back to sleep!"
Smon: Hakeem hacks off the great hairy head, leaving the creature's under-bridge lair and hoisting it high for Malenn & Osgar to see from the far side.
chris107: His rage calms...
Smon: (Frazetta draws picture)
chris107:
chris107: He hurls the horrid thing as far into the river as he can.
chris107: Then begins to search the lair.
Smon: Malenn hurries over the bridge to join Hakeem, gasping at the corpse. "Some kind of mutant!" Hakeem throws the head into the river, the current taking it away.
Smon: The lair has numerous stirge remains, pelts and such.
chris107: "Grastic was indeed a worthy foe."
Smon: There is a big sack against the bridge supports.
Smon: Also some stirge-snares, crayfish bones etc
chris107: Using the big fishing spear he will pull the sack closer and inspect it.
chris107: stirge-snares
Smon: Hakeem uses the 10' spear to open the bag, inside gleam coins, a large greenish gem, and a rusty iron key marked with tiny numbers - '134,135,106', plus a large yellow-covered tome.
Smon: Osgar joins you, carrying the torch.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 44,
chris107: Hakeem looks at the book, counts the coins etc.
Smon: Coins - 89gp, 68sp, 221cp, large sphene gem worth 300gp.
chris107: He grins as he inspects the hoard. Splitting it evenly with his friends.
Smon: Hakeem's literary skills are limited. Malenn looks at the book. "It says 'Grastic's Big Book of Magic', I think it's a spell book.'
Smon: ooc want to do a bit more, then resume tomorrow?
chris107: "Maybe one of our wizard chums will be able to use it. Best take it with us. They get grumpy if we burn books to keep warm." He grumbles
Smon: Hakeem packs the book.
chris107: I'm good until 1PM then it's dentist time
chris107: Is there a game tonight?
Smon: From where you stand you can either head south up the steps, cross the bridge to the north shore, or go west along the riverbank.
Smon: not GMing tonight, no.
Smon: next is 9.30am tomorrow.
chris107: Okay. South up the steps was the original destination so best at least take a look.
Smon: The well-worn stone steps lead up a long way.
chris107: always headfing south?
Smon: yes
chris107: The little group heads up. Making sure to always keep a torch alight.
Smon: /roll d20+3

Smon: /roll d100
Smon rolls 1d100 and gets: 151515,
Smon: You have climbed about 40' up the steps and can see that they appear to level off about 20' ahead when suddenly there is a click and they move beneath your feet, turning into a long slide!
Smon: You begin to slide back down the steps...
chris107: "Aaaaarrrrgggghhhhhh!"
Smon: *woosh*
chris107: Hakeem tries to keep the torch alight.
Smon: All three of you go sliding down at a rapid speed until you go flying out into the cavern below. make a DEX save DC 13

Smon rolls 1d20+4 and gets: 1717, (+4) = 21
chris107: Phew. Didn't want Athers coming back to another dead character!
Smon: Osgar and Hakeem manage to stop before hitting the river, Malenn enters with a loud "sploosh!"
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 33,
chris107: "Malenn!"
Smon: /roll d20+2
Smon rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 1717, (+2) = 19
chris107: Hakeem goes in to help her.
Smon: Malenn makes her swim check and emerges from the river, shaking water from her long blonde hair. "Not my day!"
Smon: Hakeem helps her out.
chris107: "Well it saves us having to bath later." he grins at her wet state
Smon: She looks him up and down, grinning.
Smon: Malenn: "Osgar, you're still dry - you next!"
chris107: Maybe we should light a fire here and dry our stuff out?
Smon: (Os needs to keep his bowstring dry)
Smon: Malenn: "Hmm, there was light from that rope bridge we saw earlier... might attract attention." She points up into the darkness, a faint red glow afar off.
chris107: After searching the remains of Grastic we'll roll him into the river too. Then make a camp.
Smon: "Maybe under the bridge would be safest? Looks like Grastic was living here."
chris107: The very place.
Smon: You make camp under the bridge & can take a Short Rest.
Smon: H can spend healing die if desired.
chris107 rolls 1d12+4 and gets: 33, (+4) = 7
chris107: 49/49HP.
Smon: ok
chris107: Could have been a lot worse.
chris107: We make sure everything is dry and not likely to rust before moving on.
Smon: Grastic's headless corpse has become trapped at the outflow. The crayfish he used to eat will dine well.
chris107: yum
Smon: Hakeem dries and oils his well-used blade.
atherton: back, but one handed
chris107: No further loot on the body?
atherton: burnt my hand on the oven
Smon: You complete your rest under Grastic's bridge.
Smon: ok
chris107: Big fight with some kind of spell using giant Athers
chris107: Oouch!
Smon: You dunno if more loot on body, the crayfish have it now.
chris107: I typed above - after searching
Smon: You are in a big cavern with a river at the bottom of the rope.
atherton: ok so we're on level 2
chris107: chris107: After searching the remains of Grastic we'll roll him into the river too. Then make a camp.
atherton: this is the bridge we saw from above?
Smon: ok, no more loot
Smon: yes
Smon: Grastic was a big hairy giant critter in coveralls
chris107: Got some nice loot and split it evenly.
chris107: + a 300GP gem and a spell book.
Smon: Was planning to stop 12pm.
atherton: we're rich ...
chris107: Now we can head across the bridge and take the North passage?
Smon: ok
chris107: Okay cool
atherton: 3 minutes away?
Smon: one more room
chris107: North then Dave?
Smon: From the bridge a smooth 10' wide tunnel leads north.
chris107: The south staircase was a trap. It wosshed us down into the river.
Smon: The walls are inlaid with panels of pearly grey marble, very nice.
Smon: Each is 5' wide and 15' tall, reaching the ceiling.
Smon: In the centre of each, 5' above the floor, is a human skull, set into the stone.
Smon: Malenn: "Very Thanatosian of them..."
Smon: As you start down the tunnel the skulls begin to glow a green light!
chris107: "Mmmm maybe we could do with that rake Rey with us to check for traps..." Hakeem
Smon: The light emanates from the eye sockets of the skulls, illuminating the whole tunnel.
chris107: admits gloomily I was going to finish
chris107: If we step back does the glow diminnish?
Smon: The tunnel runs 90' north, glowing skulls along its whole length, ending in a dark chamber.
Smon: Stepping back does nothing, the glow continues.
chris107: very impressive architecture.
chris107: "Oh well on we go I guess?"
chris107: Hakeem presses on been extra carful of preassure pads etc.
11:04am  2015-4-23 boredom3031 Has entered the room
Smon: You head north, Os & Hakeem to the fore.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 55,
Smon: You near the far end of the 90' passage. Light from the passage dimly illuminates a dark chamber, about 20' e-w and 40' n-s. You can just make out a raised pedestal on the far side of the chamber.
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 66,
atherton: draw a bead on the pedestal
Smon: Pedestal is about 7' high and 10' wide.
atherton: creeping towards it
Smon: That's all you can make out until Os enters the chamber... then things change.
atherton: ?
Smon: A blinding column of golden light shines down onto the pedestal.
chris107: "BONDAR!"
Smon: The light illuminates the room - walls decorated with ornate frescoes of gods and heroes.
Smon: A great winged leonine figure with the upper half of a beautiful woman lounges on the pedestal. "Not Bondar but Ontussa..." she purrs, regarding you.
atherton: i halt. look around
atherton: "help ... "
atherton: i back away
chris107: Ontussa? Ring any bells with hakeem or Malenn?
Smon: Ontussa looks down at Osgar with a wry smile.
chris107: "Hi Ontussa. I'm Hakeem."
Smon: "Welcome, humans."
atherton: "its a sphinx, she'll eat us" i hiss
chris107: "Thanks."
Smon: She looks over at Hakeem. "Ah, an Altanian! What knowledge do you seek?"
chris107: "Only how better to use this steel." He shows her his huge blade.
Smon: Omtussa: http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/warriorsofmyth/images/7/7e/Sphinx-lady-female-gyno-gynosphinx.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130521012450
chris107: "Come Os, Ontussa seems friendly enough."
Smon: Omtussa smiles at Hakeem. "A true Son of the Sword, I see."
chris107: Very nice indeed.
atherton: "thats what they all say until they eat you"
chris107: he smiles at her rakishly
chris107:
Smon: Omtussa steps down out of the light, onto the floor of the chamber.
chris107: Hakeem admires her form.
atherton: I back back until I'm level with Hakeem
Smon: "Oh, I only eat the impolite, and those who demand answers but refuse my fee." she smiles, showing sharp teeth.
chris107: "Best not ask then..." Suggest Hak
Smon: /roll d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 44,
atherton: "what is the fee?"
Smon: "Typically a thousand gold, works of arcane knowledge, or perhaps an excellent riddle..."
chris107: (Is there anything we need to know that badly?)
atherton: "what is always before you and never behind?"
Smon: "The future."
atherton: "ask her a riddle Hakeem"
chris107: "Does that mean Os is going to be lunch?"
Smon: Omtussa: "My turn. What is always hungry but never satisfied, and when it drinks, it dies?"
chris107: Fire
Smon: Omtussa smiles: "Exv
atherton: "yes, fire"
Smon: "Excellent! You may ask me a question!"
atherton: "When I am alive I do not speak. Anyone who wants to takes me captive and cuts off my head. They bite my bare body I do no harm to anyone unless they cut me first. Then I soon make them cry. "
chris107: (May we have a little OOC chat?)
Smon: Omtussa looks at Os and frowns. "What is the answer?"
atherton: "an onion"
Smon: (you can back away and whisper in character)
Smon: Omtussa grins. "Excellent! Two questions!"
chris107: "What great knowledge could we ask?"
Smon: She yawns. "But that will be all... Very well, to answer your first question: I know much about Thracia, its kings, its downfall... and those who were here before."
Smon: Omtussa: "You may confer before your final question."
chris107: H whispers to his pals - "I bet she knmows where those kings burried their wealth..."
atherton: "best to save our final question I think"
atherton: "plenty more to discover about this place"
chris107: "We choose to wait mighty Omtussa."
atherton: are there any exists from the chamber?
Smon: Omtussa nods. "Come back whenever you like! Bring me treasure and I might answer more questions! Or lunch..." She looks at Malenn, and licks her lips. Malenn shudders.
chris107: Are there further exits from the chamber?
Smon: You don't see any obvious exits.
atherton: "we could bring her ogre"
Smon: You could always ask Omtussa. >:)
atherton: the*
atherton: "nothing like currying up a bit of favour"
chris107: Hakeem looks around for signs of secret passagways.
atherton: I'll sounds the walls for Hakeem
chris107: A good place to leave it until the morning?
atherton: if it looks like Omtussa won't eat us
Smon: Ontussa is clearly expecting you to leave now; searching the walls of her chamber might be a bad idea.
chris107:
Smon: /roll d20+1
Smon rolls 1d20+1 and gets: 55, (+1) = 6
atherton: ok I get the message and back out
chris107: I think we back out gracefully then
Smon: You can't see anything among the frescoes of unknown Ghinoran heroes, shepherdesses, satyrs etc.
Smon: Ontussa lifts a great paw and waves you goodbye as you back away.
chris107: Yeah!
Smon: GM: ok, stopping there for now. Fun game. Will do XP.
chris107: We didn't get eaten. Result.
