chris107: Onwards to fabled Modron then? My first visit to the city
Smon: GM: ok, last night's S&W - http://smons.blogspot.com/
Smon: OOC I just rolled Old Gnarly's stats, great INT & WIS plus CHA 6
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis will rest below deck to recoup HP
chris107:
Smon: GM: Elfis snoozes below decks while the little boat races on through the night...
chris107: Sigurd is feeling robust enough to take on the whole pirate fleet but will settle for getting us to Modron safely.
Sandor Sunneson: So he could ask 100 supermodels for some comfort shall we say, and some of them would say yes because of a high CHA roll
Smon: You decided not to hide, so on a '6' the pirate galley pursues & finds you...
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 2,
chris107: phew
Smon: Dawn comes up with no sign of the Hagrost pirates - you are now well north of the confluence, heading swiftly down towards the Estuary of Roglaroon.
Smon: /roll d8
Smon rolls 1d8 and gets: 1,
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis wakes up in the morning still alive
chris107: Always a bonus.
Sandor Sunneson: Any more HP back?
Smon: Dawn brings rain, a heavy downpour soaks the boat & its sail.
Smon: Elfis recovers +1 hp. As the wet dawn light breaks over the boat, Philly prays to gods of river & sun, and applies healing to Elfis again...
Smon: /roll d6+1
Smon rolls 1d6+1 and gets: 6, (+1) = 7
Smon: Elfis' wound heals!
Sandor Sunneson: happy days, he thanks Philly and gives her a hug of thanks and prays to the gods of river and sun and thanks them too
chris107: Sigurd hands the tiller over to Gnarly. "I need a sleep, that was a long night!"
chris107: Sigurdplonks hiself into bed, exhausted.
Smon: Third day on the river, Dearthwood to left, rolling lightly forested countryside to the right.
Smon: Sigurd has a lie down...
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis takes watch
Smon: As you sail you start to see signs of habitation. A couple merchant ships pass you by. Another 60 miles or so brings you to the confluence of Roglaroon & Modron rivers around 6pm, still daylight. On the high bluffs where the rivers join stands the great Watch Tower of Modron... https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe58ofOLnuo2QiGtPe9ScIrY-x2Fv108qKGpusTO6ZLx0aWNqFXeQde0oBDD6o2lxQttFFJ7yplqVV_Xig9xuYlZM-AWrDbayTaC_A_cqGWtf98MwK-g2N5lBmbfgBR8-luOIOE7YT9qk/s640/Modron+-+West.png
Smon: Gnarly rouses Sigurd to help him steer the boat round the promontory against the current; Philomena directs you in to the north docks. She looks nervous as you approach land.
Sandor Sunneson: Be strong Phily
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis will say to her, as he looks round the dock to see if he sees aything of note
chris107: Oh,nice. I hope Sig is awake to see it all?
Smon: >>Gnarly rouses Sigurd to help him steer the boat round the promontory<<
chris107: Ah
chris107: It's early.
Smon: Philly nods to Elfis. The shining city approaches, the great Palace of Modron visible beyond the docks & warehouses as you approach the quayside.
Smon: Gnarly throws a rope to a stevedore & you are secured to land. You see a fat, middle aged woman in the robes of a customs official approaching, an enormous black hound padding along by her side.
Smon: Philly whispers: "Cureada Col, the Customs Reagant.... they say her hound Sabre comes from the pits of Hell!"
chris107: "Looks like she does too."
Smon: "Aye, she's not to be trifled with..." Philly steps down the gangplank, straightens her shoulders and waves. "Reagant Col! I need to see my father at once."
Smon: Col's somewhat porcine visage regards Philly with amazement. "You're back! What happened?!"
Smon: Philly: "I was kidnapped by goblins, but rescued by these three heroes...."
Smon: Gnarly: "And me and me boat! Couldna done it without me boat!"
chris107: Sigurd gives a little nervous smile.
Smon: Philly smiles at Gnarly. "Yes indeed. Four heroes."
chris107: "That's true. Old Gnarly did as much as the rest of us."
Smon: Col: "You're supposed to be in Haghill Princess, married to Count Huberic... yes let's get you to the Palace at once."
chris107: "Nice doggy, by the way."
Smon: Col eyes Sigurd coolly. "Yes. Yes he is."
Col turns barks orders to a couple nearby guardsmen, who hurry to join you and with Col escort you to the imposing, four-towered castle-palace of the King of Modron, just a short walk to the east.
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis will be impressed going to a royal courtyard, him being an elf of the woods
Smon: You pass through the gatehouse, cross the courtyard and approach the castle doors, a small crowd of locals gathering to watch as news of the Princess's return spreads. Philly is wearing her adventuring gear - not having much else to wear anyway...
chris107: Sigurd smiles and waves. Enjoying been a celebrity and hero of the hour. For now at least.
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis takes in the applause
Smon: A few local kids wave back at Sigurd. At the palace entrance you are met by an old fellow in rich robes of velvet & ermine.
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis guesses this is the King
Smon: Philly: "Chamberlain Drawlin - I need to see my father. These four heroes rescued me from being sacrificed by goblins! And I have news of a foul evil that must be stopped..."
Smon: /roll 4d6
Smon rolls 4d6 and gets: 4, 2, 3, 3, = 12
Smon: Drawlin nods, wide eyed. "Yes.... yes of course princess. Come with me."
Smon: You are escorted into the royal courtroom, currently unused but for a few courtiers chatting before dinner - a couple minutes' wait and a herald announces. "The King & Queen!"
chris107: Sigurd pats down his unruly beard with spit ready for his first encounter with royalty. Polishing the toes of his rough boots on the back of his trousers.
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis stands if others do
Smon: You stand as in comes noble King Anoethin, his brown beard just beginning to be streaked with grey, and the mother of his seven daughters, Queen Iris Van Kennis of Croy - still beautiful, though rather short.
Smon: Iris: "Daughter!"
chris107: Day dreaming of the golden barrel of ale they will no doubt reward us with.
Sandor Sunneson: Link to the Queen?
Smon: Tears of relief in her eyes, she rushes forward and embraces Philly, while Anoethin exchanges brief words with the Chamberlain, who withdraws to summon the court.
Smon: Iris was a PC in a game many years ago, I can upload a pic of her before the 7 daughters.
Sandor Sunneson: lol
chris107:
chris107: (just received another PM from Jorian. He seems convinced that it was me who decided we would play with D&W rules not 5e)
Smon: Iris in her adventuring days, 2007 PBEM! https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCQFuyLSno_r3fHX25YhmwbtLxS62B3xqCe09xd7E_WcMbEIhoIep7-GZ_4-XdMNneKpmWOK5nI47oit5uiyva1c5A4rFH01v_vHch1kOHDfLGPewPXznJvU_pgdcoHLmQ4m2xWZM21zc/s400/Iris+Van+Kennis.jpeg
chris107: S&W
Sandor Sunneson: It was Simon
chris107: Nicepic
Smon: Philly turns to the King her father, and briefly explains what has transpired, somewhat eliding the time she spent as an aventuress in Morgansfort.
Smon: Anoethin: "For this great deed you shall all be rewarded! We are but a humble city, but for this you shall have half the gold in my personal chest!"
chris107: Sigurd tries not to choke
chris107: "Very generous, your majesty."
Smon: Drawlin: "1173gp divided by four... 293 gold coins for each of them, Sire!"
chris107:
Smon: OOC Modron book lists Anoethin's treasury as 2346 gp 291 sp & 7 ep
Sandor Sunneson: Thank you
Smon: Anoethin: "Let it be done. Come friends, take wine and tell me of your adventures..." A robed slave girl proffers you wine from silver goblets.
chris107: (A bit dreamy to actually be in Modron )
chris107: "Yummers!"
Smon: The wine is excellent.
Sandor Sunneson: Lovely, wine,
Sandor Sunneson: Excellent wine, very rich and fruity
chris107: "And fine slaves!"
Sandor Sunneson: Indeed, also very fruity too a slightly drink Elfis will snigger
chris107: Sigurd decides here and now that it's a palace for him. With lots of slaves and fine wine. Even if he has to chop up half the pirates on the Hagrost to get it.
Smon: You circulate; Drawlin nods to Elfis' comment - "Aye, finest grapes in Modron!"
The slave girl blushes at Sigurd's compliment.
John boasts to the King of his daring feats.
The Queen approaches Sigurd. "You are a Skandik - of Croy? I don't think I know you?"
chris107: Sig asks about the pirate ship with the demon/angel figure head?
Smon: Anoethin: "aye, that sounds like the ship of Murizhpal herself! You were lucky to escape her clutches!"
Smon: Gnarly: "Not luck - skill..."
chris107: "Not Croy your majesty. Sea Rune. Do you know it? The Thormansuns have been there since the beggining. My great grandsire stood on the hill when Thor appeared!"
Smon: Iris' eyes widen. "Sea Rune? Then you owe allegiance to the King of Ossary?"
chris107: (according to the Shield maidens of Sea Rune book they did anyway and who is Sigurd to argue? )
Sandor Sunneson: Who is Murizphal?
Smon:
chris107: "Not I. Not to that mad man!"
chris107: "The Pirate Queen!"
Sandor Sunneson: There was another who claimed to be that round Ahyf somewhere
Smon: Drawlin: "Good Sir Elf, have you not heard of her? She leads the foul pirates of Hagrost! Striking from a hidden lair upriver, they prey upon honest folk..."
chris107: "I would rid the rivers of these pirates if I had but a long boat and a Skandic crew at my back!"
Smon: The room looks puzzled at Elfis.
Smon: Anoethin: "Ahyf... a little port down in Barbarian Altanis? Exports slaves?"
Sandor Sunneson: I am not an Elf of the coast your Majesty, I am from the woodlands
chris107: boasts a slightly tipsy Sigurd.
Sandor Sunneson: So excuse my ignorance at the politics of this area
Sandor Sunneson: That all ended overnight apparently, some God called Hakeem put an end to slavery there, 8ft 2, destroyed the lot of them apparently
Smon: Anoethin looks at Sigurd. "Hmm... with most of our warriors serving the Overlord, the pirates grow bold. They will not expect an attack... perhaps you are the man to lead an expedition against them, hmm?"
chris107: "With pleasure! Why my friend Elfis there is the mightiest warrior in the elf kingdoms!"
Sandor Sunneson: I also heard that Hakeem beat the son of the Devil himself by killing Kane, Elfis will say, or something like that and shrug and drink more wine
chris107: "These river rats must be stopped!"
Smon: Anoethin nods smiling at the tipsy elf. "Ah yes! A Captain Orson told me as much, when recently he visited our court. A pity - Ahyfan slave girls are renowned for their beauty. Why those three there are brought by Orson from Ahyf!" He gestures at three beautiful & very shapely serving girls, in rather skimpy white silk robes.
chris107: "Bothering honest folks like yourselves. Just no right. Put 'em all to the sword!"
chris107: Sigurd admires the beauties, trying not to slobber too much.
Sandor Sunneson: Lovely, very fruity Elfis will think
chris107: "Three of 'em. Now there's a challange." he leers lustily at the serving girls.
Smon: Anoethin nods to Sigurd. "Definitely something to consider, but you'll need men... Croy has committed to assistance of the Overlord, but the Skandik isle of Armagh has not, she stays neutral. Perhaps you could hire warriors there? Even buy a longship?"
Smon: The buxom slave girls look back coyly at the muscular Skandik.
chris107: "If only I had the coin your majesty. Excepting your generous gift my purse is so light a gentle breeze would carry it off to The Longship Havens."
Smon: Drawlin notes Sigurd's leer and makes a note. A servant comes in carrying four heavy bags of gold.
chris107: Sig makes a mental note that he may be able to raise a crew from Armagh if he can find or capture a ship. Aplan is forming in his thick head.
Smon: Anoethin nods to Sigurd. "Aye, we'll see what we can do. May not have funds for a longship, but we can get you a ship and rustle up enough for signing on a corps of Reavers, no doubt."
Sandor Sunneson: Is Armagh Wilderlands own bandit country?
chris107: "What say you, mighty Elfis? "
Smon: Drawlin looks a little uncomfortable at the King's sudden plan to entrust ship and gold to this unknown Skandik.
Sandor Sunneson: sorry meant to be an OOC there
Smon: OOC Bob Bledsaw liked using Celtic names for stuff - officially I'd say isle was colonised by Tharbrians who named it before Skandiks conquered her.
chris107: Sigurd looks delighted. It seems his fortunes have changed. This morning a penniless wanderer. And now a friend of Kings about to captain his own ship and wipe the river rats from the Hagrost for good.
Smon: GM: The King hands out the bags of gold, Gnarly accepting gratefully.
chris107: "Thank you again, most generous."
Smon: Anoethin: "And now, daughter, we must get you to Haghill for your delayed wedding!"
Smon: OOC add on +293 gp.
chris107: already added
Smon: Philly's face falls. "But, father! The evil of the Old Island Fortress! And you know I don't want to marry him..."
Sandor Sunneson: done that about 10 min ago lol
chris107: (Though a trip to an armourer and the local brothel should take care of most of it )
Smon: Anoethin waves a hand dismissively. "Nonsense, Philomena. Huberic of Haghill is an excellent match."
Smon: Philly looks downcast.
chris107: "The evil was very great. The princess risked much to bring news of it."
Smon: Drawlin: "It will secure our alliance with the Northern Lords, and promote contact with the Dwarves of Thunderhold... You can do much good for Modron in Haghill, Princess."
chris107: "I think Modron herself wants her priestess to root it out..."
Smon: hm, Sigurd can roll a Save
chris107: "But I speak out of turn. Thor sometimes puts words on my tongue. I appologise."
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets: 7,
chris107: fail
Smon: Anoethin shakes his head. "Yes, you are a little presumptuous my friend. But no matter. Tonight we feast in honour of my daughter's safe return!"
chris107: (Well, Sigurd tried his best. Looks like Philly is bound for that fat pig, Hubric's bed)
Smon: GM: You are treated to a grand feast in your honour; celebrations enhanced once it's determined that Philly's honour is intact...
chris107: He now enjoys the feast to it's full.
Smon: You get +600 XP each.
chris107: haha
chris107: Very cool
Sandor Sunneson: Lovely , thank you
Sandor Sunneson: 3649XP now
Smon: That night the three buxom Ahyfan slave girls (orig from LA, Paris, & Margate) are sent to Sigurd's bed.
Smon: Are you tracking bonus XP Fergus?
Sandor Sunneson: what is the bonus XP? No
Smon: STR 13+ is +5%
Sandor Sunneson: cool, ok, will start from now,
Smon: I'm not seeing any other bonuses, some versions give a wis bonus to all classes.
