L5+ 3/9/47 The Otroggic Hive #1 (500-800 XP)

Danor Gordak, Bright Star and Sandro investigate the caves of an old demon cult south of Stonehell, while Vuthrik guards the sinkhole above. BS & S find three potion pots and a mysterious door...

Smon: GM: Bright Star requested a nice simple mission, so Dr Rosa spends a few days on research and suggests checking out something marked as the "Otroggic Hive" a mile south of Stonehell canyon.
Smon: GM: Yes it is 3/9/4447 BCCC in Selatine, the last month of the Dry Season. The fields outside the village are golden brown.
Keelia: Bright Star sits at the usual place, waiting for those of her companions that might join her on this side journey
Smon: Some crazy Nerathi folk & Nightshadow stopped in nearly a week ago.
JamesDevil: Danor arrives putting the last of his armour on
Smon: Dr Rosa gathers Bright Star, Sandro & Danor Gordak at a table in Lady Vex's hall. "Bright Star asked for a mission with no politics - well according to these notes, if you ignore 50 year old demon cult politics it should be simple enough..."
Keelia: Bright Star greets him and motions to a seat beside hers while they wait
Keelia: Bright Star grins. "Demon cult politics can be ignored, yes."
JamesDevil: Demons, no, politics, yes
Smon: Rosa: "Just find the cave at the foot of the cliffs, lower down the sinkhole, explore the caverns and deal with any nasties; recover any demon cult loot..."
JamesDevil: Kill'em all and lets the gods sort them out, got it
Smon: Rosa: "I've asked Vuthrik to go with you to lower you down and guard the entry - make sure no one cuts your rope while you're down the sinkhole..."
Smon: She waves to the big Thracian ex-Deathwalker breakfasting with Epicaste at Lady Vex's table. He nods back.
Keelia: Bright Star nods. "That would be much appreciated. It is good of Vuthrik to do this."
JamesDevil: I have no problem being underground, but fair enough
Smon: "He's a good chap!" says Rosa brightly.
Smon: Vuthrik nods to Weaponmaster Epicaste, then rises and comes down to your table on the lower level. "All good?"
Keelia: "Indeed. And Bright Star offers her thanks for your assistance on this."
JamesDevil: Great! *Danor takes another swig of Ale
Smon: Vuthrik hefts his spear and nods. "Meet me at the west gate in twenty minutes."
Smon: He heads out the door.
Keelia: Bright Star stands and gathers her pack together, then quickly downs her milk. She waits for her companions to be ready before she heads out to meet Vuthrik.
Smon: Rosa watches him go then turns back. "He was telling me there are demon cults *all over* these hills - some worse than the Thanatics! I fear the Nixthisis may be attracting them."
JamesDevil: how long is the trip?
Smon: Rosa produces a map https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5abrABRu89Ke2MIgS_-EuqPtG5onZFjYI77jEjsaW9YWuusKyoeYJZJ8fgdOzfFJRlt-G23kph-4jbLanQNdYOMwXq9a5l4-N0ZJwOgyl_u3Ia4f0tSu70ZwebY5qVvGglsL0NkZ-hJY/s1600/Selatine+Area.jpg
Sandor Sunneson: That map is available in all good bookshops
Smon: "You know Stonehell canyon of course... the entry cave should be at ground level in the cliffs, just over a mile south. I think just south of the tree line."
Keelia: Bright Star considers Rosa's words. "That may be possible, and the threat of her mental control over a distance could make such a situation worse."
Smon: Rosa nods. "Hopefully this is just an abandoned cave network - with a bit of cult treasure, perhaps." She smiles.
JamesDevil: Let us be on our way then! these cults arn't going to kill themselves!
Smon: "Good luck everyone - come home safe!"
Keelia: She considers the map carefully then nods. It should be a similar journey time, more or less," she says to her companions.
Smon: GM: You all ready yourselves, bid goodbye to Rosa and meet with Vuthrik, already waiting at the west gate.
Keelia: "Bright Star could use a new shiny." She waves to Rosa and starts out.
Smon: /roll d8
Smon rolls 1d8 and gets: 8,
JamesDevil: You always want something Shiny
Smon: It's already a bakingly hot day as you head over the baking plain, Vuthrik suggests taking the SW road towards the Lighthouse for about 4 miles, then head west to the cliffs at the southern edge of the woods, and work south from there looking for the cave.
Smon: Vuthrik nods to BS. "About 8 miles, as you say."
Keelia: There is never enough shiny
JamesDevil: You're the expert, lead the way please
Smon: Vuthrik grunts.
Keelia: Bright Star agrees to Vuthrik's suggested path.
Keelia: She keeps her eyes and ears open for trouble.
Smon: 4 miles SW brings you to a wooded copse around 9am, where you can catch a little shade from the morning sun before heading west.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
Smon: Some deer had the same idea, and scarper off through the trees at your approach.
Keelia: she does pant a little in the heat (all her fur makes her better suited for cooler climes) so she is glad for the woods' shade.
JamesDevil: Danor maintains his cool with a flask of ale hidden about his person
Smon: After a 15 minute rest in the shade, Vuthrik beckons & you head west across the plain towards the distant cliffs... Around 10.30am you reach the cliffs just at the southern end of the Thrace woods - Stonehell canyon a mile to the north.
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro happy to scout ahead
Smon: Sandro moves ahead to scout - roll PER Fergus
Smon: (I assume 60' ahead unless you say different)
Smon: (lots of PCs want to scout like a mile ahead & then are surprised when their PC dies)
JamesDevil: lol
Keelia: Bright Star watches Sandro slip again and keeps watch on him best she can as he's now their first warning for trouble
Keelia: *ahead, not again
Smon: roll WIS+Prof Sandro
Sandor Sunneson: just finding character sheet, sorry lol
JamesDevil: Danor trusts that the monk won't get himself into too much trouble

Keelia rolls 1d20+13 and gets: 11, (+13) = 24
JamesDevil: Danor hefts his warhammer from his shoulder
Keelia: she stealths along behind him.
Smon: The wolves catch scent or sight of Sandor and perk up.
JamesDevil: Danor keeps hs distance, he doesn't 'do' stealth
Smon: They rise to their feet, growling...
Smon: The rest of you see Sandro signal.
Smon: /roll 2d6
Smon rolls 2d6 and gets: 5, 2, = 7
Smon: BTW was DC 13 check, Sandro is not a great scout
Smon: The wolves growl and bare fangs.
JamesDevil: his Per check was lower than my passive so ya, not great P
Keelia: (poor sandro, he must have missed his morning meditation with the early departure and is out of sorts)
Smon:
Smon: However they seem a bit sleepy in the heat, and don't rush to attack.
JamesDevil: Danor cast Thaumaturgy and bellows out:
JamesDevil: COME AND GET ME YOU LITTLE WELPS!!!
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro will withdraw back into the grass as he hears the loud voice from behind him
JamesDevil: Sandor, Birght go wide, i'll go straight at them!
JamesDevil: Danor charges towards the wolves
Keelia: Bright Star winces, ears dropping back against her head as strong Dwarves lungs bellow in her ear. She's still watching Sandro when Danor charges off.
JamesDevil: and fires off Sacred flame once he is within 60'
Sandor Sunneson: Sandor will go wide
Smon: Danor bellows (too far away from the wolves for the 30' range Thaumaturgy to affect them) then charges up.
Smon: ok you're attacking so roll init please
Keelia: She turns to see an empty space beside her and a dwarf charging ahead so she follows.
JamesDevil rolls 1d20 and gets: 2,
Keelia rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 9, (+6) = 15

Smon: Sandro they are 60' away currently
JamesDevil: then its even nmore impressive
Sandor Sunneson: He'll move towards them
Smon: You could advance alongside Vuthrik & ready a strike at one that comes at you?
Sandor Sunneson: preparing to defend himself

Keelia rolls 1d20+13 and gets: 9, (+13) = 22
Smon: BS your go - you don't have a great shot from here but if you Dash instead of Hide as bonus could move round to the east
Smon: and shoot at the wounded one?
Keelia: yes, she'll aim for the one bothering Sandro
Smon: If you hide & shoot they'd have +5 AC from your allies so best bet is move

JamesDevil:
Keelia: that wasn't what I wanted to happen
Keelia rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 2, (+7) = 9
Keelia: Nope, arrow goes sailing past.
Smon: at least it wasn't a 1, I'd have rerolled it vs ally
Smon: #5 Sandro
Keelia: (phew! - what's with all these 2's tho?)
Smon: You can full attack now Sandro
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 11, (+5) = 16
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 17, (+5) = 22
Sandor Sunneson rolls 2d6+6 and gets: 3, 1, (+6) = 10
Keelia: Bright Star would also like to move while Sandro is attacking to be in a better position.
Smon: Sandro cuts down the wounded wolf with his first blow (2 hp) then hits the one on Vuthrik for 4.
Smon: The last wolf Disengages Vuthrik and bolts away from the cave - straight towards BS's new firing position!
Smon: She sees a terrified wolf coming straight at her...
Smon: Danor Gordak your go
JamesDevil: can i get into melee with that wolf?
Smon: not sure, so I'll say DC 12 Athletics check to reach it
JamesDevil rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 5, (+2) = 7
Smon: (as part of move)
JamesDevil: -.-
Smon: Danor runs towards it but it's a lot faster
JamesDevil: ugh
JamesDevil: sacred flame then....
Smon: You can still do a ranged attack
Smon: /roll d20+2
Smon rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 18, (+2) = 20
JamesDevil: -.-
JamesDevil: healing word on Vul again....
Keelia: (the power of fear...)
JamesDevil rolls 1d4 and gets: 4,
JamesDevil: +4
Smon: The wolf heroically dodges the flames exploding around it, Hollywood movie style, races past BS and into the long grass...
Smon: Vuthrik shakes his spear triumphantly over the pile of dead wolves.
Keelia: She lets it pass without harassing it.
Smon: (out of combat unless you chase)
Keelia: Bright Star will let it go if her companions don't want to chase.
Smon: Vuthrik: "My wound is healed! Thank you, friend Dwarf!"
JamesDevil: Danor does not run apparently -.-
Smon: He bows respectfully to Danor.
JamesDevil: Danor nods
Sandor Sunneson: Hopefully that will mean Sandro will be L6 come the end of the adventure
Keelia: (It's all the heavy armour!)
JamesDevil: makes me impossible to hit though
Smon: Looking in the cave you see it's about 30' deep, broader towards the back. It smells of wolf.
Keelia: (@Ferg - nice! Star has another 3k to go)
Keelia: Bright Star will peer inside out of curiosity.
JamesDevil: 3400 for Danor
Sandor Sunneson: 195XP to go
JamesDevil: yay for darkvision, what do i see?
Keelia: (so close!!)
Smon: Animal bones and wolf scat are strewn about the cave floor.
At the westernmost end of the cave is a natural stone ledge standing 2‘ high. Atop it rests a 4‘ tall iron statue depicting a humanoid figure composed completely of insects, worms, and other unsettling pests. Only vague facial features are discernable. Carved into the stone ledge below the statue is the following:
The grottos beneath are for them whose eyes need no longer see, for their marvels are too strange and terrific for those who tread in sunlight to behold. Otrogg gave unto his worthies the great holes beneath the earth and placed within them his riches and wonders. These treasures are the inheritance of that which once crawled, but has since learnt to walk.
In the cavern floor next to the ledge is a hole, difficult to see in the gloom. The hole is 5‘ in diameter and gives way to a 20‘ shaft leading to the tunnels below. Hand-holds are carved into one side of the shaft making for an easy descent.
Smon: Vuthrik eyes the hideous statue. "That'd be Otrogg."
Keelia: Bright Star peers into the hole. "Then this is our entrance, it appears."
Smon: The cave is dry, but the statue is orange with rust.
Sandor Sunneson: Iron
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro will be on the alert for an iron golem
JamesDevil: Otrogg? sounds disgusting
Keelia: She drives a spike into the earth and ties a rope to it. For those who cannot easily use the handholds.
8:39pm  2018-3-03 joriandrake Has entered the room
Keelia: "Demon cult," she reminds him of what Dr Rosa said.
joriandrake: ((hello))
Smon: At the bottom of the 20' shaft, BS can see it opens into the ceiling of a charming grotto about 20' across.
This grotto contains a few fallen stones and a gravel and dirt floor. The walls and floor are damp and insects crawl across the patches of pale blue lichen that grow sporadically about the cave.

Sandor Sunneson: Hi Jorian
Smon: (hi J)
Keelia: (hey)
JamesDevil: Yo
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro will inspect for tracks
JamesDevil: Ferg can you see in the dark?
Smon: BS drives a spike into the soft sandstone of the cave by the shaft.
Sandor Sunneson: No, this chap is human
Smon: & lowers a rope down.
JamesDevil: Danor casts light on one of Sand's swords
Keelia: "It appears to be safe enough to descend." she tests the spike/rope to be sure it is strong enough.
JamesDevil: 20' of light for you mate
JamesDevil: Danor uses the rope to climb down
JamesDevil: Athle?
Keelia: "Gather your strength but watch out for the last wolf," Bright Star says to Vuthrik before she starts down (climb speed 20')
Smon: Danor clambers down the rope into the grotto, sees a 7' high 5' wide tunnel leads off to the south.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Smon: As he reaches the floor, his foot crunches on old bones, buried under debris and lichen.
JamesDevil: hmm, bones, not a good sign
Smon: BS descends (never as fun as ascending, for cats...) and lands beside DG.
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro descends
Keelia: She frowns at the bones but moves out of the way so Sandro can get down safely.
Smon: Sandro descends the rope, joins them.
Smon: The bones are almost entirely covered, but you can make out the upper half of a human skeleton still dressed in leather robes.
Smon: Around its neck, on a rusty chain, is an iron symbol depicting a cockroach encircled by a worm with its tail in its mouth.
Keelia: "A priest of this evil Otrogg?"
Keelia: She crouches down to examine the symbol but she doesn't touch it.
JamesDevil: can i roll religion?
JamesDevil rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 12, (+3) = 15
Keelia: "Strange that he would die here, by the exit."
Smon: It must be the vermin-worshipping Cult of Otrogg that Dr Rosa spoke of.
Smon: According to her research they embarked on a doomed crusade against a serpent cult in Stonehell about 50 years ago. After their leader was slain, they are believed to have fallen apart.
Sandor Sunneson: In what sort of position is the corpse lying?
Sandor Sunneson: any clues there?
Smon: Under the debris & lichen, the hooded skull and upper chest DG landed on just breaking the surface.
Smon: you can roll Investigation if you sweep the debris off it & search
Smon: INT+prof
Sandor Sunneson: ok
Smon: DC 5
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 19, (+3) = 22
JamesDevil: I'll cast guidence on Sand/s
JamesDevil: lol, add a d4 if you like
Keelia rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 11, (+6) = 17
Smon: Sandro spots a rent in the leather robe in the stomach area, like a dagger wound, the edges faintly discoloured & corroded.
JamesDevil rolls 1d20 and gets: 4,
Sandor Sunneson: Been knifed, like a night out in Ahyf
Smon: It's humid and warm down here, unlike the cool dry cave above.
Smon:
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
JamesDevil: Danor casts Aid on all three of us
Sandor Sunneson: Nothing else to spot? Sandro will check for tracks in ground surface
Smon: A few bugs skitter away from you as you move around the grotto. The only exit is the south tunnel & the hole above you, where Vuthrik is looking down at you.
JamesDevil: +5 temp hp for all three of us
Keelia: Bright Star stands and brushes down her fur. "Interesting. By friend or foe was he stabbed, I wonder? Shall we proceed?"
Sandor Sunneson: I think so BS
Keelia: (thanks for the Aid)
JamesDevil: yes, lets move
JamesDevil: Danor yells up to Vul "we'll return in a few hours"
Smon: Tracks would be Survival, not a class skill for Sandro so raw WIS no prof
Keelia: "South is our only option."
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20 and gets: 18,
Smon: Vuthrik nods stoically. "I'll be here."
Sandor Sunneson: +2=20
Sandor Sunneson: WIS 14
Smon: Nothing like human tracks. What looks like the remnant of a very large slug's slime trail, 6" across, not quite dry, goes around the chamber then back south down the tunnel.
Smon: marching order down the 5' wide tunnel?

JamesDevil: If we're not worried about stealth
JamesDevil: i'll go first
Smon: ok, what's your passive per DG?

Keelia: Bright Star sighs at the slug's trail. Her poor fur will take hours to sort out if she gets slimed.
JamesDevil: 17
Sandor Sunneson: What's DG?
Keelia: She follows Danor, picking her way carefully down the tunnel
JamesDevil: Danor Gordak
JamesDevil: ME
Sandor Sunneson: ah ok
Sandor Sunneson: lol
Smon: DG moves off, BS following, Sandro behind.
Sandor Sunneson: thought it was maybe dungeon guiding ha ha
Keelia:
JamesDevil: >.<
Keelia: In a way it is, direction: follow dwarf
Smon: After about 25' S/SE through the low humid tunnel, it comes to an intersection, 4 more similar tunnels wend off to SW S SE & NE. Danor can hear water dripping/splashing quite loudly from the SW tunnel.
Sandor Sunneson: puttting kettle on
JamesDevil: water to the SW, shall we check it out?
Sandor Sunneson: ja
JamesDevil: we head SW then
Smon: You head SW. After about 30' the winding tunnel comes out on the N side of a cave, about 20' n-s by 15' e-w. The sound of dripping water is heard echoing from this cave. Within its damp confines are two pools: one is a 2‘ deep pool of green-tinted water; the other is a small basin of opaque blue-white liquid situated under a dripping stalactite of the same color.
Smon: Danor you have Stonecunning so can roll INT+prof
Smon: w advtg i guess
JamesDevil rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 17, (+3) = 20
Keelia: (nice!)
joriandrake: ooc you have another roll
JamesDevil rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 5, (+3) = 8
JamesDevil: i think the 20 will do quite nicely
Smon: Judging by the stalactites, colouration, you reckon the water in each pool is heavily laden with minerals that cause its discoloration. The water shouldn't be harmful to touch but slightly alkaline - you wouldn't want to drink it.
JamesDevil: ok, i know it looks pretty, but-DON'T-DRINK-THE-WATER
Keelia: Bright Star considers. "Sandstone above. Blue-white liquid from the ceiling. A living cave. Most interesting. Bright Star has read about this."
Smon: The cave seems clear of monsters. Moving in a bit, you can see the rocks at the base of the greenish pool. If there is anything in the opaque white pool, you can't see it.
JamesDevil: hmm, seems like a dead end
Keelia: Bright Star looks towards Danor, mildly insulted. Why would he think they would drink such disgusting (and disgusting smelling) liquid.
JamesDevil: lets head back to the crossroad
Sandor Sunneson: ok
Keelia: Bright Star peers at the opaque pool with some suspicion but follows Danor.
JamesDevil: Danor heads back to the previous split
Smon: GM: You leave the cave and head back to the x-road.
Smon: Danor in his full plate is sweating slightly now in the heat and humidity.
JamesDevil: any tracks on the ground to indicate signs of life heading in either of the remaining two directions?
Keelia: Can Bright Star see anything at the crossroads? She's particularly interested in the slug trail.
Smon: /roll d3

Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
Smon: BS picks up the slug trail going down the S tunnel.
JamesDevil: ok, lets go kill the slug since we know which way it headed, rather not go into an unexpored area and have it sneak up on us
JamesDevil: unexplored *
Keelia: She points to the trail. "Slugs eat living things, including carrion."
JamesDevil: Danor leads the group S
Keelia: "If we follow the trail, it will lead us to more lichen at the least."
Smon: GM: You start down the south tunnel... after 20' it bends SE and you see a dim phosphorescent glow ahead in the distance.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Smon: The slug slime is fresher now - less than a day old?
JamesDevil: its was here recently....
Smon: The tunnel winds SE, obscuring what's causing the glow.
JamesDevil: Danor pushes onward cautiously..
Keelia: Bright Star is careful where she puts her feet so reduce the slime she might get on her boots but she keeps her eyes forward. Light could mean any number of things
JamesDevil: ooc my god i just realised you're Puss in boots
Smon: The tunnel bends E then S then E then S for around 70'... the glow brightens... as you are moving cautiously can roll Stealth, disad in full plate though

Keelia: (nice roll!)
Keelia: "This is a persistent slug to travel so far."
Smon: Danor crunches along noisily...
The tunnel opens out onto the north west side of a cave some 30' across and ca 15' high, with tunnels out to s e and n/ne.
This cave glows with phosphorescence. Lights of green, lavender, and yellow shine softly here, produced by the fungus garden that has been laid out on the floor of the cavern. The garden was once edged with rocks, but it has overgrown these ornamental barriers. The ground is covered in rich, fungus-birthed loam. Five benches, overgrown by fungus, are placed asymmetrically about the cave.
At the sound of Danor's approach, the five 5'-long black beetles that had been feasting on a 4' long, 10" wide slug turn in his direction...
Smon: The beetles' enormous mandibles click as they move towards Danor and the light from (stealthy) Sandro's sword, which silhouettes BS nicely from behind...
JamesDevil: sigh
Smon: roll init
Keelia: Bright Star draws her bow.

Keelia rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 2, (+7) = 9
Smon: BS draws rapier & attacks... AC 14 - it slides off beetle carapace.
Keelia: (bloody 2s!)

JamesDevil: yay
Keelia: nicely done
Smon: I can do another hour but James if you need to go I can give XP now?
Smon: 500 each so far
JamesDevil: I need to log off now, thxs for the game Danor will retreat back to the entrance unless you want to drive him as a heal bot
Smon: nope
JamesDevil: 2 spell slots left in lv1, 2 and 3
joriandrake: bye
Smon: Danor inspects his dented armour and decides to withdraw.
Keelia: Star waves to Danor who needs to go get his armour unbent
JamesDevil: thxs, night/morning/day all!
Smon: I assume he cancels the Light spell - with the natural light here Sandro will be able to stealth.
Keelia: have a good night, james
Smon: bye James
9:45pm  2018-3-03 JamesDevil Has exited the room
Smon: OK now you two can hopefully sneak a bit
Keelia: Bright Star will have a quick look around the cave
Smon: The strange mossy fungus glows green, lavender & yellow all over the cave, dripping off the stone benches.
Keelia: Particularly around the 5 asymmetrically benches.
Smon: It may have once been a well ordered fungus garden, but now is hopelessly overgrown.
Keelia: Does she recognise any of the fungus in the garden?
Smon: The floor is soft and loamy. BS finds no treasure or even debris; the beetles kept their home clean.
Keelia: Bright Star turns to Sandro. "There were two more paths. NE and SE. Shall we go SE next?
Sandor Sunneson: Must have always been a bit of a long and winding road for them to get back to their home
Sandor Sunneson: NE
Smon: The fungi tendrils resemble Spanish moss; she hasn't seen anything like it before, but the glow is reminiscent of Stonehell's glowing golden mushrooms.
Sandor Sunneson: ?
Keelia: NE it is
Keelia: Bright Star will pick her way back to the split and stealth NE
Smon: 3 out of here - NE E & S - but you want to retrace back to 1st junction?
Keelia: Ooh - i didn't realise there were ways out of here
Keelia: Can we see if there are any tracks?
Smon: The tunnel opens out onto the north west side of a cave some 30' across and ca 15' high, with tunnels out to s e and n/ne.
Keelia: I got distracted by the benches
Smon: roll survival so WIS
Smon:
Sandor Sunneson: funky lights
Sandor Sunneson: both og us?
Keelia rolls 1d20+2 and gets: 5, (+2) = 7
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20+7 and gets: 3, (+7) = 10
Keelia: Bright Star is still too distracted by the oddly placed benches. Why are they not in a nice shape?
Sandor Sunneson: sorry 3+2=5]
Smon: BS sees no tracks. Sandro thinks there are poky holes that might be beetle tracks going back and forth down S and E tunnels.
Smon: LOL
Keelia: (We've got all the stealth but we can't track at all  )
Smon: oh well have a freebie
Sandor Sunneson: beetles tracks, must record that
Smon: I should learn never to trust a Fergus bonus
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Smon: all is quiet and humid.
Keelia: Bright Star looks to Sandro. "NE may bring us back to another room from one of the previous tunnels."
Sandor Sunneson: Lets go
Keelia: OK. heading NE.
Smon: GM: you head NE down a dimly fungus-lit tunnel.
Keelia: Stealth please
Keelia rolls 1d20+13 and gets: 8, (+13) = 21
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 13, (+5) = 18
Smon: It soon turns E. After 60' or so it opens out ahead into a small cave.
Sandor Sunneson: any coin?
Sandor Sunneson: lol
Sandor Sunneson: or a slug?
Keelia: Bugs are more likely in this dungeon
Smon: This cave is colder. No creatures visible. The remnants of many boxes and crates still choke the cavern, but looking in you see they now hold only scraps of straw batting, torn canvas, and odiferous stains. A low exit to the SE opens directly into a second cave, while to the north the cave gives way to a worked stone tunnel running 20' n into what looks like a large square-cut chamber.
Smon: Looking north in the dim light, BS can make out more details of the chamber: The natural caves give way to worked stone here, indicating that intelligent beings formed this chamber. The walls and ceiling are covered by a myriad of cracks that seep water, and a pool of mineral-laden red water has accumulated in the center of the room. A colony of motley mushrooms, each 4‘ tall and colored purple, blue, and pink crowd around the verge of the pool.
Keelia: (Those are some big mushrooms. What's with that water?)
Keelia: Bright Star will step into the cave and peer into the other cave to ensure nothing is in there.
Keelia: (the one SE)
Smon: Looking SE through the 4' wide gap into the SE cave you see The stalactites and stalagmites of this cave are overgrown by a thick layer of moss and the walls weep with moisture. Patches of pink luminescent fungi grow about the floor.

Smon:
Smon: roll PER BS
Keelia rolls 1d20+8 and gets: 5, (+8) = 13
Keelia: (I have a feeling that wasn't enough  )
Smon: Looking SE, BS suddenly spots something skitter across the fungus-coated floor & back into the fungus - an enormous centipede, easily 2' long!
Smon: (DC 10 since you specified a look)
Keelia: (phew)
Keelia: She murmurs softly to Sandro about the bug then eases back towards the worked stone.
Smon: BS slips north into the 10' wide worked stone passage.
Keelia: There is more likely to be treasure where stone has been worked.
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro will follow
Smon: The square chamber ahead is about 40'x40', with ceiling at least 15' high.
Smon: Three more cut tunnels lead out from it to N W and E.
Smon: roll stealth pls
Sandor Sunneson: any tracks?
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20+5 and gets: 13, (+5) = 18
Keelia rolls 1d20+13 and gets: 12, (+13) = 25
Smon: No tracks - suddenly you see one of the mushrooms "shuffle!"
Smon: It moved! About 3".
Smon: Then you see a second also move a couple ", adjusting its position at the edge of the pool.
Keelia: Bright Star pauses and stares hard at it, ears forward and listening, too.
Keelia: She looks at Sandro, bewildered.
Sandor Sunneson: They coming towards us?
Smon: You count 20 of the perambulatory mushrooms. They must have some kind of legs/feet.
Smon: no, they seem unaware of you. They most resemble a flock of birds, or sheep, around a water source.
Keelia: 20 moving mushrooms... Bright Star wonders if that bottle of hallucinations potion leaked in her bag...
Keelia: She considers this and then eases along the wall, towards the west tunnel to peer down it.
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro will continue to observe them, looking forward for being rewarded for this 1st time experience
Smon: BS creeps quietly along the wall and reaches the west tunnel. She sees 20-30' of worked stone, another 15-20' of cave tunnel 10' wide, then it turns NW out of sight.
Smon: From here BS can also look east over the mushroom flock into the e tunnel?
Keelia: She continues to sneak along the wall to the north tunnel
Smon: OK
Sandor Sunneson: Sando will follow Bs
Keelia: Oh, I thought the mushrooms were too tall
Smon: BS reaches the N tunnel, Sandro following. It runs 20' then bends NE out of sight, becoming rougher.
Smon: 4' mushrooms, you are 5'.
Keelia: At 4' it would be difficult to see over them. but if she can see down the east tunnel, she'd like to before she moves n
Keelia: True
Smon: The east tunnel runs 20' into a 30x30 chamber of worked stone. Formerly a common room/sleeping quarters it looks like, this chamber contains rickety cots, fragile tables, and rotted chairs, the wood of which looks spongy with moisture.
Keelia: OK, she'll continue around to the E tunnel and have a look in there.
Sandor Sunneson: S will follow
Smon: You go round and reach the east tunnel. The mushrooms shuffle a little nervously it seems, as if sensing your presence. You can't see the N side of the eastern chamber from here, but can see the S and part of the E wall, they appear blank worked stone.
Keelia: She will stealthy go down the east tunnel and peer into the room to see the N side.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
Smon: You head down the east tunnel and emerge into the chamber, immediately seeing the rotten looking door in the N wall. Mildew clings everywhere and tiny harmless vermin skitter away from your feet. Beneath a collapsed bed you see a chest sealed with a rusty lock.
Keelia: Bright Star will go investigate the chest
Smon: OK... there is almost no glow here, so Sandro can barely see (-5 PER).
Sandor Sunneson: Is it a padlock style lock
Smon: The chest appears intact but locked.
Sandor Sunneson: ?
Smon: padlocks don't even exist
Smon: It's a regular inset lock.
Keelia: Bright Star will ease the chest out from under the bed and check for traps
Smon: ok BS eases it out - it's not heavy, but you hear a clinking within as of something ceramic rolling & clinking into something similar.
Smon: no obvious traps
Keelia: probably cultist worship tools
Keelia: she'll try to pick the lock
Keelia rolls 1d20+10 and gets: 19, (+10) = 29
Smon: !!!
Keelia: The lock evaporates under her skilled hand ?
Smon: The lock is rusty, but a little WD40 from the thieves' kit ...et voila!
Sandor Sunneson: well done
Keelia: lol
Sandor Sunneson: WD40 exists>?
Smon: BS unlocks the chest and carefully opens it, revealing the three earthenware jars resting in a bed of moldy straw.
Keelia: Yep, cultist stuff.
Smon: Witch Drizzle 40
Sandor Sunneson: check inside BS
Keelia: She'll carefully withdraw one and examine it
Sandor Sunneson:
Keelia: Does it appear trapped?
Smon: no
Smon: /roll d3
Smon rolls 1d3 and gets: 1
Keelia: She'll open the jar.
Keelia: carefully.
Keelia: away from her face.
Smon: It pops open, revealing a yeasty-smelling brown paste.
Smon: Like beer.
Keelia: Does it look familiar?
Smon: roll INT+prof
Keelia: We found marmite / vegamite.
Keelia rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 20, (+3) = 23
Sandor Sunneson: check inside BS
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 19, (+3) = 22
Keelia:
Smon: BS recognises it as an old Nemuan recipe for Paste of Extra Healing.
Keelia: fantastic!!
Smon: Apply externally for 4d4+4 healing I think it is
Keelia: Nice!
Keelia: She'll hand that jar to Sandro and check the other two
Smon: yup DMG says 4d4+4. Also cures paralysis.
Keelia: Not shiny but a great find!
Smon: The second jar holds the same paste. The third holds an oily grey liquid.
Smon: Smells like magic.
Keelia rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 15, (+3) = 18
Keelia: is it like the red rocks blood but grey?
Sandor Sunneson: Sandro will take the paste
Smon: Hmm... could be an Enlargement or a Diminuition potion... they're very similar.
Keelia: (we've stumbled into Alice in wonderland - with things that say 'Eat me'  )
Keelia: She seals it up and stuffs it into her bag for someone with magic to examine. She also takes the second jar of paste (Sandro has the first)
joriandrake: ooc I thought due to mushrooms first it was Merio's world, only missing turtles
joriandrake: Mario's
Keelia:
Smon: BTW the air in this room smells of mold and mildew punctuated by the slightly sweet smell of old death.
The door to the north is flanked by a pair of impressive-looking pillars. Both the columns and the door bear carvings that depict a variety of bugs, worms, maggots, and other disgusting pests. In the center of the door is a 4"x4" undecorated depression.
Keelia: Now I have the Mario side scroller music in my head
Keelia: Bright Star will head over to the door and examine the depression
Sandor Sunneson: check dpn
Smon: The depression looks carefully designed as if to receive a 4" wide tablet(?) 1" deep.
Smon: Although the wood looked rotten to first glance, BS senses it may be stronger than it looked. Indeed both of you find your hair/fur standing on end a little as you near the door - magic!
Keelia: (Probably hidden in the water...) Does the door feel magical? and is there a door handle?
Keelia: OK, yep, magic door. Don't touch.
joriandrake: ooc Keelia and I have the terrible "Do the Mario!" song in my head
Smon: The ebon carvings on the door almost seem to writhe with life.
Smon: (never a Mario fan)
Smon: No handle.
Keelia: "Magic door," she murmurs to Sandro. "Need the tablet to disable the spells. Have a look around."
Keelia: She'll investigate the room (and check in the chest under the straw)
Sandor Sunneson: Ok, Sandro will look around
joriandrake: ooc I like Luigi better too!
Sandor Sunneson: checking walls, floors
Keelia rolls 1d20+6 and gets: 5, (+6) = 11
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d20+3 and gets: 15, (+3) = 18
Smon: You take 10 minutes to search through the old living chamber (passive PER ok) until satisfied there is no matching tablet here.
Keelia: passive is 18
Keelia: Bright Star sighs. "We're going to have to go chase the mushrooms off and check the water."
Smon: OOC feels like a good stopping point if you want to go collect Danor & continue next week?
Keelia: Works for me
Sandor Sunneson: yeah, think so
Smon: You can have another +300 XP
Sandor Sunneson: Level up! L6
Keelia: Good job, Ferg!
Smon: Also can take a Short Rest back at the entry grotto and level Sandro up.

You are able to stealth back to where Danor is levering the dents out of his plate, Vuthrik looking down from above. (SR, level up Sandro)
