Smon: S&W is a clone of odnd but even simpler so very easy. chris107 rolls 4d6 and gets: 1, 4, 5, 2, = 12 chris107 rolls 4d6 and gets: 6, 3, 6, 1, = 16 chris107 rolls 4d6 and gets: 4, 2, 1, 1, = 8 joriandrake: hm, I guess a try won't hurt, I made my day free for our game to begin with Smon: Campaign hopefully! chris107 rolls 4d6 and gets: 4, 6, 2, 3, = 15 chris107 rolls 4d6 and gets: 5, 4, 5, 4, = 18 chris107 rolls 4d6 and gets: 1, 4, 2, 5, = 12 joriandrake: I see the download of the core book would be free, but I still would be required to register for the page chris107: 11-15-7-13-14-11 Smon: Humans can add +1 to any 2 stats joriandrake: Simon can you please give a link to a full, downloadable copyx of the book so I can avoid that registration process? joriandrake: I roll quickly meanwhile joriandrake: /roll 4d6x6 joriandrake Rolls 4d6x6 and gets: 1, 3, 2, 3 = 9 1, 2, 4, 3 = 10 3, 4, 2, 6 = 15 4, 2, 5, 1 = 12 4, 5, 5, 3 = 17 4, 1, 2, 5 = 12 joriandrake: 8, 9, 13, 11, 14, 11 o_O joriandrake: Guess I'll make a henchman or a redshirt chris107: From what I see scores don't make that much difference? +1 or -1 at best/worst? joriandrake: no idea, havent read the book yet, waiting if SImon can help me avoid the registration mess chris107: me too Sandor Sunneson: i'm sticking with kosvar chris107: but found a similar set online chris107: Kosvar is 5e? joriandrake: Kosvar? we play the same characters? not new ones? Sandor Sunneson: https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http://irontavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Swords-Wizardry-Complete-revised.pdf&h=AT0IxhS_-WOgMTynmxnawwvWn88HHiWVR4nrk75gHJV2RZZX1V9hgBeAgkrv3URF2Ru7s4kDBlvQY_ltDsdslsdu31yMgQbIApDCHXih4itiq-4XHXsU3k1LFzamZnwTaSU Sandor Sunneson: amn't I??? joriandrake: Thanks SImon it loaded Smon: Home! chris107: Thought this was a new S&W game? Smon: yup joriandrake: So Kosvar transcends systems and worlds? Smon: i don't have a log of anything said before just now as i was on phone btw Smon: but will trust stat rolls. Sandor Sunneson: are we all rolling for new PCs? Smon: Ferg you need to roll a new pc!
Smon: This game is set many hundreds of miles to the north, in the lands of the Invincible Overlord.
chris107: ouch
chris107: That's filled my screen
Smon: Please don't c/p unless requested Jorian.
Smon: OK so.
chris107: I rolled 11-15-7-13-14-11
Smon: You are all invited to play in this new game, which uses a clone of the OD&D rules.
Smon: The Attributes are STR IN WI CO DE CHA in that order.
Smon: Roll your stats on best 3 of 4d6 (rolls done already are fine).
Smon: Classes are Fighter Thief Cleric and Magic-User.
Smon: Humans get +1 to any 2 stats.
Smon: You can play a demi-human but they have level limits.
joriandrake: so the former rolls don't matter, we can all roll again?
chris107: Looks like I'm playing the Magic User
Smon: (rolls done already are fine).
joriandrake: wait, depending on my rolls i might be something like the hairdresser to a mage apprentice
chris107: No worse than mine Jorian
Smon: You can add +1 to a stat every even level 2-10.
joriandrake: (mine were terrible and Chris rolled again too, it can't be much worse than what I already got)
Smon: Roll again if you want.
joriandrake: only human or other races too?
chris107: Hang on. Idid not roll again
joriandrake: k
Sandor Sunneson Rolls 4d6x6 and gets:
2, 2, 1, 3 = 8
2, 1, 4, 3 = 10
5, 4, 3, 6 = 18
3, 4, 2, 4 = 13
5, 5, 4, 4 = 18
6, 3, 2, 4 = 15
joriandrake: ah sorry
joriandrake: it was Fergus
chris107: I rolled once
chris107: and those were the scores I got
joriandrake: ok then i keep my first rolls too
Smon: (rolls done already are fine).
chris107: 11-15-7-13-14-11
joriandrake: joriandrake: 8, 9, 13, 11, 14, 11 o_O joriandrake: Guess I'll make a henchman or a redshirt
Smon: Smon: You can play a demi-human but they have level limits.
Smon: Stop whining! Roll again if you don't like your stats.
Smon: (was @Jorian)
chris107: I'm happy with what I rolled
Smon: good
Smon: Once you have your stats finalised, tell me them STR INT WIS CON DEX CHA & I'll make a note.
joriandrake: I didn't whine, I mistook Fergus's rolls for Chris rolling again and asked about how these are handled, then as I noticed my mistake said my first rolls are fine for me as well
Smon: I recommend some Fighters or Clerics for the good armour BTW
Sandor Sunneson: on phone brb
Smon: >>joriandrake: Guess I'll make a henchman or a redshirt << whining
joriandrake: I actually meant that as a joke seeing the low rolls
chris107: hehe not much fighter or cleric material here.
joriandrake: guess I failed miserably
chris107: Will have to be magi user or maybe thief...
chris107: Don't worry, Jorian. We'll all be dead soon
Smon: This is going to be swords & sorcery flavoured so PCs at least *think* they're gods' gift to creation.
chris107: Simon, what is the City of Wizards?
Smon: House rules - HP at 1st level are max +2, eg Fighter has 10 base.
Fighter attacks vs 1 hd cap at 4. Fighters get more attacks vs other foes - 2 at 4th, 3 at 6th, 4 at 8th.
chris107: Though a clever Alryan thief from the CSIO may be fun too
Smon: Starting base hp Ftr 10 Cleric 8 Magic User 6 Thief 6
Smon: You were going to play a pirate or shield maiden, your stats look good for either Chris.
Smon: & those are much better ideas than curling up because you rolled 11 STR.
chris107: you did see my stats?
Smon: You could use Thief class but Ftr is fine too
Sandor Sunneson: str 14, int 11 wis 10 dex 11 con 14 chr 13
Smon: thx Fergus
Sandor Sunneson: still on phone
joriandrake: I leave house rules to be noted to others, as I doN't even get the normal rules yet
chris107: Shield Maiden it is. A clever one!
Smon: OK I guess I'll let you swap any 1 stat w any other 1 stat
chris107: yay!
Smon:
chris107: 15-11-7-13-14-11
joriandrake: ... so, using this attribute listing my rolls would mean Str 8, Int 9, Wis 13, Con 11, Dex 14, Cha 11 and if a Human as far I understand all attributes would be one higher?
Smon: No, I said human can add 1 to TWO attributes only.
chris107: Are Amazons human?
Smon: Pretty much, yes.
chris107: so +1 to 2 stats?
Smon: They & Altanians are human for this game yup
chris107: cool
joriandrake: are attribute scores preequisite for classes, or can any class be taken with any score?
Smon: Any class can be taken. There are small XP bonuses for high Primes (13+) by class.
joriandrake: I consider now 3 options, Fighter, Assassin (is listed as first in pdf) as it would basically be a rogue as far I see it, or Druid if we won't have healers (and if druids in this system can actually heal)
Smon: OK I've noted the stats you gave me.
chris107: Actually.... a Skandik
Smon: I'm using the core rules like I said https://www.froggodgames.com/swords-wizardry-core-rules
chris107: S 16 IQ 11 W 7 D 13 Co 15 Ch 11
Smon: Skandik warrior of Croy?
joriandrake: the one from the link you gave: Swords-Wizardry-Complete-revised.pdf right?
Smon: 4 classes in the core - Fighter Thief Magic User Cleric like I said
chris107: From Sea Rune
Smon: https://www.froggodgames.com/swords-wizardry-core-rules
chris107: Skandik warrior
Smon: CORE RULES
Smon: Just click the link.
chris107: (fighter)
joriandrake: Thief then
Smon: cool
Sandor Sunneson: still on phone, soz
joriandrake: Sorry, as I asked above, and copy-pasted, I waited for your response to my question if you could upload the pdf for core book so I can avoid tthe registration process for that online shop as I can't download it otherwise, and when you posted that link later I assumed it is that book, now I see it isn't
chris107: I can't register either but have the basic idea.
joriandrake: I am tired, I helped my mother today at home and she was in a bad mood all day long, I assumed I can easily play as Prisha as I semi-memorized everything about her, but perhaps starting a brand new game with this different system is just too much for me now
Smon: @ chris str 16 = +1 to hit & dmg, con 15 = +1 hp/level, dex 13 = + 1 ac and +1 missile attack.
chris107: I assume the stats and fighter stuff are the same?
chris107: yup
joriandrake: aaand she just calls me over - afk
chris107: He's a beast!
Smon: @Fergus str 14 = +1 to hit, dex 14 = +1 ac and missile attack
Smon: @ jorian str 8 = no mods, dex 14 = +1 ac and missile attack.
Smon: What's your class Fergus?
Sandor Sunneson: Hello. back
Sandor Sunneson: Fighter, it's just easier
Smon: (@Jorian it's a vastly simpler system than 5e, much easier to play)
Sandor Sunneson: Can you do fighter classes like Barb/ranger etc?
Smon: Human?
chris107: Sigurd
joriandrake: back...
Sandor Sunneson: Elf,
Smon: You can be a barbarian or a ranger but you're still a fighter
Smon: cool
Sandor Sunneson: Elf, are we all starting at L1?
Smon: yup
Smon: roll 3d6 (x10) for starting gold
chris107: Sigurd will swagger a lot and drink ale from an ivory horn.
chris107 rolls 3d6 and gets: 1, 5, 6, = 12
chris107: 120GP
Smon: You can use equipment list from the Complete rules, I'm sure is the same
Sandor Sunneson: I like the thought of an archer type
Sandor Sunneson: So specialist archer fighter
Smon: OK you have a good swords & sorcery team here
joriandrake: I will go with basic human thief, not too clever but nimble and with an aspiration of having his own street gang
Smon: cool
Sandor Sunneson: You a barb Chris?
joriandrake: too tired to fill out the dam nregistration page however, so if you don't mind I pass the creation details over to whomever accepts the burden
chris107: there are only Fighters, Ferg
Smon: You did the hard bit Jorian
Sandor Sunneson: Ah ok
Smon: I'll do your equipment J just roll 3d6
joriandrake: My mom just said we have to drive tomorrow to my sister, which was fully unplanned
Sandor Sunneson rolls 3d6 and gets: 4, 5, 1, = 10
joriandrake rolls 3d6 and gets: 1, 3, 2, = 6
Sandor Sunneson: 10 x10=100gp
Smon: Did you add your human stat bonus J?
joriandrake: no
Smon: I see he's a poor Thief.
joriandrake: I only listed the rolls
joriandrake: hm
joriandrake: or just too dumb to keep the money saved up
joriandrake: +1 to Con and Cha
Smon: ok thx
Smon: Fergus & Jorian can you give me PC names?
chris107: Bastard Sword 20, Chainmail - 75
joriandrake: Not certain that gives any bonus yet, but I want to make him a bit more sturdy and charmin (or atleast one of the gangsters who is easier to forgive mistakes by the boss and survive )
joriandrake: hm
joriandrake: This is still your Wilderlands setting?
Smon: yup
chris107: or two handed sword if Bastard sword isn't available in basic
joriandrake: John Little, transported from our Earth, England, early medieval era, Sherwood
Smon: b sword is in there
Sandor Sunneson: Wilhelm Simonson
chris107: kewl
Smon: You can't be an Elf called Wilhelm Simonson Fergus
joriandrake: actually a tall, but skinny guy
joriandrake: afk again, going to get me some coffee and aspirin
Smon: OK as our tale begins, Sigurd, John & the nameless Elf are in a tavern in Morgansfort a little outpost of civilisation on the banks of the Roglaroon, on the edge of the fell Mermist Marshes...
Smon: The elf has a powerful elven longbow, in his hands att +2 for d6 dmg
joriandrake: back
joriandrake: (Coffee will help me a bit, John might have a quarterstaff as weapon if that works for a thief in the system, flavor from Little John lore)
Sandor Sunneson: cool, so d6+3 damage
Sandor Sunneson: +1 for STR ?
Sandor Sunneson: sorry hands. miss read that
Smon: I said d6. +2 to hit. ringmail Ac 13 > 14 for dex, and an elven battleaxe att +1 for d8.
chris107: N-S or W of the Mermist?
chris107: (If it matters )
Smon: a little outpost of civilisation on the banks of the Roglaroon, on the edge of the fell Mermist Marshes...
Sandor Sunneson: HP = 7?
Sandor Sunneson: No,
chris107: HP 11 here and Ac 5-1 =4 here?
Smon: on the west side of the roglaroon
joriandrake: ./roleplay = John might be there in the tavern to play or drink away his 'hard earned' coins
chris107: Thanks
Smon: using ascending ac
chris107: (2626?)
Smon: sigurd has 11 hp, elf 10, John 6.
chris107: AC16 then?
Smon: Chain is 14, +1 DEX = 15
chris107: cool
Sandor Sunneson: Call him Elfis
Smon: brb tea & moving pc
joriandrake: (I can imagine an officer questioning people and writing notes as he asks "...and the name of the elf is?" with Elfis as answer)
chris107:
joriandrake: wait, now i get the pun
chris107: Elfis Prezelie?
joriandrake: Elfis Parsley?
chris107: hehe
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis Woodsorrel
joriandrake: I have to remember the Elfis Parsley as name for an elven bard and/or druid
chris107: A fine name indeed.
Smon: On this map, NW corner of 2625 - a little outpost of civilisation on the banks of the Roglaroon, on the edge of the fell Mermist Marshes...
chris107: got it.
Smon: Just north of the waterway known locally as the Froggy River - because of the frogs.
chris107: "Bloody frogs. Burp."
Smon: GM: Morgansfort is a well fortified little place, a bastion of order in the surrounding darkness.
Smon: But most of her warriors are with the Overlord on his glorious crusade against the foul Skandiks of Ossary and their black-hearted King Alkazed, and today few men man the walls.
Smon: And the forces of darkness grow bold...
chris107: "He's actually a really nice guy."
chris107: "Burp."
joriandrake: and John grows bold, as this also means fewer patrols, a dream for thieves
joriandrake: (maybe already abused it)
Smon: Rumour has it that the fair and well developed Princess Philomena of Modron, a maiden priestess of the River Goddess, has vanished from her barge in these parts while on her way north to marry Count Huberic of Haghill at the Midsummer Deflowering!
chris107: "Why we could rape our way along the Ragloroon all the way to Modron thanks to Alkazed!"
chris107: "Lets find her!"
Smon: Count Huberic has said to have offered a thousand gold for the Princess's return - intact - or a hundred gold should she be less than intact.
joriandrake: ...Midsummer Deflowering?
joriandrake: (deflowering means loss of virginity, right?)
Smon: An old rheumy eyed fisherman nursing his pint in the corner eyes Sigurd. "Looking for someone, are ye?"
Smon: (yes)
chris107: "If she's pretty it will be worth the nine hundred gold!"
Smon: (An important rite of Suthak, Goddess of Fertility)
Smon: The old man comes over to your table, a little unsteady.
chris107: "Aye old one. Some Princess of Modron bound for old Huberic's bed. Lost on the Raglaroon."
Smon: "Happens I seen something the other night fits the bill... I reckon I know where she is!"
chris107: (I'll cross of a gold for more ale)
chris107: "Well have a drink then my friend and tell us what you know."
Smon: He sits at your table, offering a wizened paw. "Gnarly, they call me. Pleased ta meetcha."
joriandrake: (Fergus, you're here?)
chris107: (What's the pub name please Simon?)
Smon: GM: A gold buys the tavern a round - Sigurd is a popular fellow. A plump barmaid comes round passing out steins of yellow ale.
Smon: The Toothless Dragon.
Sandor Sunneson: Yes, just viewing
chris107: Sigurd gives her ample rump a hearty slap.
chris107: thanks
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis looks round
joriandrake: John grins at him and nods
Smon: The wench jumps, giggles and winks at Sigurd. The barkeep, doubtless her pa, looks on with mild disapproval from the bar.
Sandor Sunneson: seeing what sort of folk drink here
chris107: Sigurd slips a gold coin down her bodice
Smon: Seems to be mostly fishermen - marsh and river - and a few farmers who eke out a living from the strip of fields between the marshes and the deep cut of the Roglaras.
joriandrake: ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9WGeUdFrUI )
Smon: /roll 3d6
Smon rolls 3d6 and gets: 4, 6, 3, = 13
chris107: "So tell us what you know Gnarly!"
Sandor Sunneson: And how you know it
Smon: The girl's grin broadens as she sashays off. Gnarly leans in: "Ah, you'll have no luck with that one, friend! Garnoth keeps his daughters on a tight leash." OOC book says Garnoth the innkeeper, wonder if the author reads my blog.
chris107:
Smon: Gnarly takes a deep swig, smacks his lips: "Aye... well, two nights back I was out late on the River, just bringing me old boat back into land. Was passing by the old island fortress just south of here when I saw something - Goblins! They had a skiff, and they were bringing somethin' onto the island... it was dark, but I reckon it was human - most likelt yon missin' princess, stolen from 'er own barge!"
chris107: "Could you show us where?"
Smon: Gnarly nods: "Better'n that - I'll take you there! For an even share of the reward."
chris107: "What do you think, John, Elfis?"
Smon: Gnarly eyes the three of you. "Me old boat's not much, but it'll hold the four of us and a princess, I reckon."
Sandor Sunneson: Sounds like a deal, 250 each
chris107: "Aye, sounds good to me too!"
Sandor Sunneson: Or 25 each if she's been filled
joriandrake: "Not bad, even if just 100 gold, plus wahtever else we ...redestribute on our journey"
Smon: Gnarly nods to the strange Elf and the others, eyes bright. "Aye!" He sips his drink. "The summer solstice is tomorrow - most likely em goblins are savin' her for that."
chris107: "Then tonight we drink! For tomorrow we may fill a Goblin's belly! Drinks all round!"
Smon: "Shake on it?" he offers his hand.
chris107: Sigurd spits and shakes
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis will wipe his hand on his armour and shakes
Smon: Gnarly shakes your hands.
joriandrake: (how does stealing work in this? )
Smon: (you have special Thief abilities like Pick Pocket as a % chance but if you set it up first you get bonuses or auto success)
joriandrake: John shakes (and might try to steal from him, but probably not as too many eyes on them)
joriandrake: (ok, no stealing atm)
chris107: Sigurd sings bawdy sea shanties and drinks his fill!
Smon: Your base numbers are Climb Walls 85% remove traps (etc) 15% hear sounds 3 in 6 Hide in Shadows 10% Move Silently 20% open locks 10% & backstab x2 dmg. I give up to +50% on success chances and book says can be auto success if a non Thief might have succeeded
joriandrake: ok
chris107: 1 min brb
Smon: GM: You enjoy a night of revelry, Sigurd much of the time with a plump & bosomy young barmaid on his lap, until it's time for bed. As expected, the innkeep shoos his daughters off to bed away from any wandering adventurers...
chris107: back
Smon: The next morning (21/6) the day of the summer solstice, you wake to the bright light of summer pouring in through the taproom windows onto your sleep mats.
Sandor Sunneson: Lets wake up early, breakfast and rescue this bint
chris107: "Aye, bint rescuing sounds good. By Odin it's a fine day for it!"
joriandrake: "The more loot, the less damage to us the better"
Smon: Gear for John - leather 20 gp AC 12>13, shortbow 15gp, bastard sword 25gp uses up your cash
Smon: No thieves tools in the list so I guess they're free
Sandor Sunneson: Has Elfis scalemail>
Sandor Sunneson: ?
chris107: (OOC if I find a good character picture that is armed with hammer or axe am I okay to swap Sigurd's weapon?)
Smon: Says ringmail, same idea - metal sewn over cloth
Smon: (sure)
chris107:
joriandrake: (maybe make this RP flavored, and say John can open/do stuff without tools due to nimble fingers?)
Smon: (You need eg pins to pick locks - you can use improvised tools J). Heading out of Morgansfort's stone gatehouse you head down to the wharfs, where Gnarly is readying his little boat.
joriandrake: Iguess John will primarily attempt to sneak attack with bow while enemy occupied with allies, or unaware
joriandrake: Basterd sword grreat for a thug to scarw iwth, but not too healthy to go into melee for John
Smon: (Thief can backstab w melee weapon for +4 to hit, x2 dmg from behind). He waves cheerily at your approach. "Morning, friends! Just laying in some gear - torches and such. Rope, a grappling hook."
Smon: (shooting is fine too but no special powers)
chris107: "Morning and Freya's blessings upon you!2
joriandrake: (aww)
joriandrake: John nods "Get some extra lamp oil, or other kind of oil too, for goblin roasting"
Smon: "Oil? Hmm." Gnarly looks at John. "Lamp oil don't burn that hot. You mean the stuff the alchemists sell? The stuff goes WOOSH?"
Smon: OOC area map on the right here - http://i.imgur.com/c037hX8.jpg
joriandrake: "whichever we can get our hands on without too much gold paid for it" John smiles
Smon: Gnarly points out the small island in the distance, about half a mile off. "There she is. Gobboes should be going to bed now..."
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis will finish his breakfast and check his bow string
chris107: (the old island fortress on the map?)
Smon: GM 2 in 6 you can get Flaming Oil at the Morgansfort trader
Smon: yes
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 5,
chris107: thanks
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d6 and gets: 6,
Smon: GM: No flaming oil today.
joriandrake: Chris? attempt at oil?
Smon: was just 1 roll!
joriandrake: ah, i thought it was a roll per char
chris107: "Bah! Burning is for Loki! I fight my enemies with steel!"
chris107: Sigurd whooshes around his huge weapon to illustrate the point.
joriandrake: "Perhaps a flaming sword would be to oyur tastes"
chris107: "Come gnarly! Get us to this virgin before she's too old to shag!"
Sandor Sunneson: Nonsense, the power of the arrow can take out a harpee on the highest branch where the metal erection will be of no use what so ever
chris107: (Sigurd is an earthy creature, appologies for the coarse language)
joriandrake: John just smiles and thinks to himself that a well placed blade can kill any enemy with a single stab
Smon: GM if you like you can roll for rumours you heard carousing last night. d12 each.
chris107 rolls 1d12 and gets: 8,
Smon: GM: You climb into the little boat, which rocks as you get in, and Gnarly casts her off...
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d8 and gets: 4,
Sandor Sunneson rolls 1d12 and gets: 9,
Smon: Sigurd heard that Piles of magic armor are hoarded in the dungeons beneath the ancient fortress in the middle of the river.
chris107: Ooooooo
Smon: Elfis heard that Lizard-men live in the Mermist marshes.
Sandor Sunneson:
Smon: The blacksmith who told Sigurd about the piles of magic armour admittedly had had a LOT of beer, but he didn't seem to be the type to lie.
joriandrake rolls 1d12 and gets: 8,
chris107: Sigurd lives in hope.
joriandrake: Guess John heard the same as Sigurd
Smon: GM: The sail catches the morning breeze and the boat heads out into the current, swiftly sailing downstream to where the slow moving Froggy River empties into the mighty Roglaroon.
Smon: The ancient grey stones of the island fortress loom above you as you approach, but there is no sign of life among the lichened stones.
Smon: Gnarly sets the boat in at a ruined stone quayside, most of the stones now tumbled into the dark waters.
chris107: Sigurd prepares to jump ashore.
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis gets ready too,
Smon: You clamber ashore. It looks as if long ago a mighty bridge connected the island to the mainland, but it has long since fallen away. The fortress itself is but a ruined shell, but doubtless there are tunnels in the rock beneath the crumbled walls.
chris107: "The Goblins will likely be underground away from the sun."
Sandor Sunneson: John can go into sneak mode and dissapear into shadows?
chris107: "Come we will chivvy them out like old stoats!"
joriandrake: "Elfis, you have the best eyes among us, correct?"
Smon: Gnarly: "I'll stay here and be ready to cast off quick, soon as ye're back with yon Princess. Remember you're fer rescuing her, not killin' gobboes!"
joriandrake: John will try to be sneaky, so that they don't fight enemies if it can be avoided, but perhaps having Elfis also at front would be a good idea
Smon: GM: The summer sunlight is bright and hot as you cautiously enter the ruins, John flitting from shadow to shadow.
Sandor Sunneson: Yes, but I am not a thief, who works in shadows
Sandor Sunneson: and manipulates opponents that way
Sandor Sunneson: Happy to come along
chris107: "Drat you, you knaves! I'll go first then!"
chris107: Sigurd pushes ahead, his mind racing with images of virgins, gold and magical armour.
Sandor Sunneson: Happy to accompany you too Sigurd
joriandrake: "Psst, just kill things that we can't avoid a battle with"
chris107: He grabs a torch from the stock on the boat and lights it.
Smon: In the tumbled remains of what was once the central keep, you spot a cleared route through the fallen debris rotten wood timbers & jumbled stones, to a broad flight of stairs going down into darkness...
joriandrake: "So much for being stealthy"
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis will head for the steps
joriandrake: "...well, we can't really see past this without a torch anyway" John mumbles
chris107: "Then get ahead you curs! We haven't got all day!"
Smon: Sigurd's gaze falls on muddy prints leading to the stairs - smaller than Men - goblins, alright!
chris107: (He got the torch from the boat okay?)
chris107: "Ayem they're here alright. 7 of 'em by my calculations and carrying a girl of about 8 stones in weight."
Smon: A good number, at least 6, and it does look like they had someone with them, a prisoner most like... then at the top of the stairs you see a mud spattered white silk slipper!
Smon: (yes you have torches & flint)
chris107: (Sigurd wasn't far wrong! )
Smon:
chris107: He will put the slipper into his jerkin.
joriandrake: (There's a Hungarian saying - 'Heten, mmint a gonoszok' - "Seven, like the evil ones' )
chris107: (nice saying! )
chris107: (I will try it out on my hungarian friend Gus when I see him)
joriandrake: (do try, although pronouncing it might make it hard to recognize)
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis gets his bow ready
joriandrake: John attempots to be stealthy
joriandrake: He will have his sword ready, aas the tunnels might not work so well for the bow here
Sandor Sunneson: Using his dark vision, he'll lead into the crypt
Smon: The stairway winds down into the depths - N-E-S.
chris107: Sigurd follows with bhis torch in one hand, sword in the other.
joriandrake: John will watch Elfis back, somewhere being in close proximity of him to remain attentive to dangers while also taking advantage of the elf's senses
chris107: "My sword willl cut through anything other than a Mycretian Cross!"
joriandrake: "Are mycretian crosses made of better steel than your sword?"
Smon: Elfis in front, his darkvision adjusting to the dim light. About 20' down the stairs end at an archway leading into an octagonal chamber, the N W S and E sides taken up by arches leading onto corridors (or stairs to the N that you are on). The arches are carved with writhing dragons in the ancient Orichalan style.
chris107: "Nay John. But they fear not honest skandik steel!"
Smon: The room appears to be empty. The floor shows
signs of substantial traffic between the stairs and
the western hallway. There is a faint smell like wet dog fur.
joriandrake: "Hm... do goblins use dogs? worgs? or is this their smell?"
Sandor Sunneson: He'll step onto the floor
Smon: GM: Goblins do often ride great wolves, it's said.
Smon: Elfis moves out into the chamber, a few dead leaves are scattered on the ground.
chris107: "Fenris!"
chris107: S waits at theentrance arch
joriandrake: "If they got Fenris as a guard dog, we should turn back"
joriandrake: John listens to any movement not from their position
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis will see if he can see into the western hallway
Smon: GM: Elfis sneaks over to the western hallway.
Smon: The tunnel runs w beyond the reach of his darkvision (60') with side tunnels to n and s after 20'. 30' beyond that are double doors in the S wall.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Smon: All seems quiet. There are what could be goblin and wolf tracks on the floor.
Sandor Sunneson: He'll make a sign to the others that the path ahead is clear
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Smon: John hears a snuffling sound from down the west tunnel - could be wolves?
Sandor Sunneson: Going furter in?
joriandrake: John and continue on then
joriandrake: and stops
joriandrake: He holds his hand up as signal to stop
joriandrake: and points with hand to his ears so others stop to listen too
chris107: Sigurd moves to the archway that his friends went down (W)
joriandrake: He draws the bow and positions himself at the corner of the corridor
Smon: GM: The sounds come again - it sounds to John that they are coming from the south fork of the west tunnel.
joriandrake: then turns SOuth
Smon: They don't seem angry or alert, could be feeding.
joriandrake: He goes closer to the others and tells about the possible feeding time
Sandor Sunneson: Elfis will make a sign to be on alert and lets go and try and surprise them
joriandrake: A possible chance to sneak past, or catch them quickly by surprise
chris107: "If we are to explore further we need to kill these dogs. They will give our position away if not."
Sandor Sunneson: agree
Smon: /roll d6
joriandrake: As Elfis and Sigurd go closer John positions himself so that if a dog comes out the door to attack the others he can shoot quicker
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
Smon: Is anyone going west to the intersection & looking south from where the sounds are coming?
joriandrake: he nods at the door, if they want to get rid of the canines it is done best now, or just sneak past
Sandor Sunneson: Yes, Elfis will go and have a look
joriandrake: (I thought we are all focused on the doglike sounds atm?)
Smon: Elfis creeps west along the tunnel towards the wolfish sounds...
chris107: That's where the dog sounds are coming from
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 6,
Sandor Sunneson: here we go
chris107: here we go
Smon: He reaches the intersection & looks round the south corner.
Smon: There is a 10' length of tunnel then it opens out into a chamber some 20x20. The floor of this room is littered with small bones
and scraps of fur, some of which has been
pushed together to form nests. A rank animal
odor fills the room. Elfis' elven eyesight makes out 6 great black furred wolves, gnawing idly on the remains of what looks like deer bones & carcass scraps.
joriandrake: (are we being attacked now?)
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
Smon: /roll 3d6
Smon rolls 3d6 and gets: 2, 2, 5, = 9
Smon: The wolves don't seem aware of Elfis, they seem pretty sleepy and well fed in fact.
Smon: Of course they'e bound to notice torches crossing the corridor to the north...
joriandrake: John tries heavily to point towards leaving the beasts alone and just lock them up
chris107: "They will howl like Fenris himself!"
Sandor Sunneson: Does the chamber have a door?
Sandor Sunneson: true
Smon: BTW behind Elfis to the north is a matching 10' tunnel into 20x20 room.
chris107: "If we are to avoid them let us take another path."
Sandor Sunneson: At L1, is it one attack?
Smon: no, no doorway or door
Smon: Yes you get 1 attack.
Sandor Sunneson: more that they will alert the gobs,
Sandor Sunneson: Lets find the goblins
Sandor Sunneson: looks as if there will be 6 goblins if there are 6 woolfs
Smon: GM: Elfis returns to the others to chat.
chris107: Well we have south and east passages off the octaganol chamber..
joriandrake: We are just 3, the wolves are too many even if we all can kill one per char, so they would mostl ikely alert the goblins even if we win a fight
joriandrake: We need to find the girl, so let us focus on that and the goblins, and if needed we can/need to fight the wolves later anyway
Smon: In your torchlight you can see the east passage runs 30' to double doors; the south passage runs 30' and turns west; it looks like there is a door in the east wall where it turns.
chris107: Are there goblin tracks leading south or east?
joriandrake: John tries to look at the passages to find where goblins tracks are, and which one is least used
chris107: (got it, I'll post a map when we finish)
Smon: The south & east tunnels seem little used.
joriandrake: "Let's check the least used tunnels first, maybe wwe get lucky and the girl is locked up in one of them"
chris107: "Perhaps we can bypass the wolves by taking the south corridor and turning west?"
Smon: The west tunnel seems well used, with many tracks. At the intersection with the wolf & other chamber the tracks all seem to skirt south around the wall, away from the centre of the intersection.
Sandor Sunneson: South it is
Smon: Elfis first?
Sandor Sunneson: Sure, with his nighvisiom
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
chris107: "Probably avoiding a pit trap, we should be wary if we go that way."
Smon: As Elfis steps south down the tunnel and behind him Sigurd speaks of pit traps, Elfis foot descends - and something creaks faintly under his boot!
joriandrake: John thinks likewise, if the goblins avoid the center we should too
Smon: The concealed cover of a pit?
Sandor Sunneson: he steps back
Smon: Elfis instinctively stops, his keen Elfin eyes pick out the faint outline of the cover.
Smon: Definitely looks like a pit trap, such as an unwary human might blunder into.
Smon: That makes 2 then, in both W and S tunnels.
Sandor Sunneson: skirt the wall?
Smon: There seems plenty of space to skirt it to either side.
Sandor Sunneson: Go that way then
Smon: You skirt the pit to the left & continue. From the door ahead on the e wall where the tunnel turns w comes a faint humming sound; it becomes more of a buzzing when you get closer. The door is distorted by age and humidity, and hangs partly open.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Smon: The buzzing is very deep, too deep for normal-sized bees...
Smon: Could it be the Orichalan dragon-bees of ancient legend, whose fiery honey could drive a man insane with delight??
chris107: "Think what mead that would make?!"
Sandor Sunneson: Can Elfis see beyond the door with his night vision?
joriandrake: "and how much money if we sell it"
Smon: Elfis approaches the slightly open door - faint daylight filters through the crack.
Smon: Giant bees! The room is lined with a huge lattice of hexagonal cells made of wax; a giant honeycomb! Light comes in from a gap in the ceiling above, just wide enough for a bee to crawl out into the ruined fort.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 2,
Smon: They don't seem to have noticed Elfis yet. He sees a bee feeding an enormous bee-larva in one of the cells.
Sandor Sunneson: He'll indicate to the others and head back towards them
Smon: Most of the cells (85%) contain giant bee honey, while the remainder look to contain giant bee larva in various stages of growth.
chris107: "Well that leaves us East."
Smon: GM: You could just walk past the door & go west.
Smon: Maybe quietly.
Sandor Sunneson: ok, sorry thought that the passage ended, quietly head on
joriandrake: "Can we attempt to steal a bit of that honey?"
chris107: Never argues with the GM
Sandor Sunneson: focus on mission first?
chris107: The passage heads west past the bees Ferg
Smon: A skilled Thief might be able to sneak in, grab some honey and get out unspotted...
joriandrake: Sure, let's try it after we got the girl
joriandrake: hmm
joriandrake: Still, he is right, John tries it later
Sandor Sunneson: head on west
chris107: "Let's get the girl first."
chris107: Sigurd sneaks past with them, holding the torch low and avoiding the pit
Smon: GM: Where the bee door is in the east wall the passage turns briefly west, then south again as it skirts a granite outcrop, then turns east... Orichalans liked their tunnels...
9:28pm 2018-6-23 Smon Has exited the room
9:28pm 2018-6-23 Smon Has entered the room
Smon: You all pass the bees, torches shrouded, following Elfis.
Smon: The tunnel ran w 10' then s 20', now it runs e a good 80' before turning north. At the point where it turns north is a sturdy door in the south wall.
Smon: /roll d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 1,
Smon: You notice faint marks on the dry tunnel floor here, particularly near the door. Smaller even than goblin tracks, they look a bit like chicken feet, but larger.
Sandor Sunneson: Any noises beyond the door?
Smon: /roll d6
joriandrake: John checks it for traps and listens at it
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 2,
Sandor Sunneson: Baby dinasours Elfis thinks
Smon: Elfis & John listen at the door. John can make out yippy, barking speech, high-pitched.
chris107: "The thuinderbeasts of the Elephlands?"
Sandor Sunneson: Like a little farm this
Smon: Elfis hears it too - sounds like lots of them!
Smon: /roll 3d6
Smon rolls 3d6 and gets: 3, 4, 2, = 9
chris107: "More likely Kobolds! We should go back and hunt for the wench where the goblins took her. To the wesst!"
Smon: Kobolds, yup.
Smon: You could continue to follow the tunnel N.
joriandrake: "how can goblins and kobolds both claim this place?"
chris107: "We risk discovery by our wandering"
Sandor Sunneson: Maybe they are prisoners?
Smon: Looks like it runs N 60' & ends at double doors.
Smon: They sound pretty happy to John.
joriandrake: "What if not the goblins but kobolds have the girl?"
chris107: "Maybe we should go find the girl(My map shows that the double doors at the end of the north passage here will likely link into a chamber from the east leading passage from the octaganol room.
Smon: OOC need to finish 11pm latest. Can continue 7pm Monday evening if that suits?
Smon: Have 50 map XP chris, that's brilliant work.
chris107: "Because we have seen goblin footprints and Gnarly saw the goblins take the girl."
joriandrake: monday works
joriandrake: actually i was about to ask to stop now
chris107: Works for me. Very enjoyable
Smon: oh yeah it's v late for J!
joriandrake: thanks for the game, good night all
Smon: Can stop there. You each get 250 XP.
chris107: Thanks for the game guys. If Sigurd survives another session I'll post the picture I've found
9:37pm 2018-6-23 joriandrake Has exited the room
chris107: G'night all. See you Monday
Smon: Level 2 Fighter is 2000
Smon: cool cya
